Sleek Travel laptop under 800USD Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:10 PM PST Hi guys, I'm looking for a decent laptop that allows me to do some photo editing, Futures Trading, Netflix, surfing, and perhaps basic gaming (Apex Legends, Counterstrike, Fall Guys). I quite like Laptop/Tablet hybrids, but this is not a definitive must. Must have an SSD for quick start-up time and decent CPU, as well as a good screen (!). 13 inches or so would be ideal screen size. Things I don't care about are audio/speaker quality, Microphone quality, LTE, or webcam quality. My dream laptop would be the HP Spectre 360 (but it's a bit out of my price range). I also dig the Asus Zenbook Pro, Lenovo Yoga and Windows Surface Go 2, just to give you an idea of the style I'm looking for. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop ($800 budget), mainly used for gaming Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:49 PM PST The only things i REALLY care about are battery and ingame performance. The screen/resolution shouldn't be that bad either but i mean, most are good enough - got low standards anyways. Any suggestions lol? [link] [comments] |

Three quite similar choices. So... Ryzen + 2060 or i7 + 2070 max q Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:37 AM PST So I've done quite a bit of research on my next laptop purchase. The last one died due to poor thermals so that's what I've really looked at this time around. I've gotten it down to three options. HP Omen 2020 with two different setups: The first has an intel i7-10750 processor, nvidia rtx 2070 max q gpu,16gb ram and 1tb ssd with a 300hz screen The second omen is a ryzenbased model with a ryzen 7 4800h, rtx 2060, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd and 144hz screen. The third option is a Lenovo Legion 5 with the same setup as the last omen, but at a slightly cheaper price, and with a 1tb ssd. Far as i can tell, the ssd is the same, only with varying storage space. Doesn't matter to me if it's 500gb or 1tb.. I'm far more concerned with the cpu and gpu. So the 2070 max q model is the most expensive one, though they're all around the same price point and it's not really the price that's most important. I want a laptop I'll be able to use for some years, which will hold up thermally and do high settings at 1080p for a while. I'd say i play a wide variety of games, so i couldn't really say if they're mostly cpu or gpu intensive, but i guess what i want to know: is the jump to the ryzen cpu would be worth taking instead of sticking with the intel omen and the slightly improved gpu? Also, anyone have experience with the new 2020 omens and the 2020 Legion 5s? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2020 12:47 AM PST Hi, My 9 year old requires a laptop to take to school with recommended specs of:
Was looking at perhaps the 10.5" Surface Go 2 (4gb/64gb) (and using a 128gb microSD card I already have) as there are some good deals on the Go 2 where I live however doesn't really meet the specs. Any opinions? Limitations I should know about? Will it be fast enough considering the recommended specs of the school? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Dec 2020 11:54 PM PST Hello, I've been looking at laptops in the INR 55-65k range and wanted to know if this (HP Notebook 14s-cr2000tu) was a good idea. Acer Swift 3 vs Acer Aspire 5 - Which is better? Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:00 PM PST Acer Swift 3 specs: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/NX.HSEAA.004 Acer Aspire 3 specs: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/NX.HSNAA.002 Between these 2 models, I believe that the Swift 3 linked is more powerful. My main concern is the display - I heard that it's not great on the Swift. I don't know how this compares to the Aspire, though. A good display is important for me. Any help is appreciated. Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:53 PM PST Hi everyone! I'm looking for a budget friendly laptop to chill on the couch and play Stardew Valley or watch YouTube on. I upgraded my old gaming laptop to a legit gaming rig, so I just need something for casual use, but that still feels and operates nicely. I like big, matte screens, and weight doesn't bother me (I used a 17" ASUS ROG gaming laptop for years, and that thing was a brick). Here's my questionnaire, thanks so much in advance! A 2-in-1 laptop that won't fall on my face (£900-1100 budget, UK) Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:31 AM PST So, I've been using a Surface Pro 6 for the past 2 years and while the experience hasn't been bad, I wouldn't call it great either. I got it because I wanted something that let me handwrite notes for med school, but still kept computer functionality. It has been a fantastic note taker. But I spend most of my time using it like a laptop for general every day usage when I'm not writing notes, the top heavy design has led to the Surface slamming shut, falling back and slamming on a desk, falling on my face if I use it when in bed, etc. more times than I can count because slight redistribution in weight when it is sat anywhere but in the middle of a desk is a no-no. Even when I'm typing there are times where I rest my palms on the end of the type cover and if a little bit is hanging over a table edge or something the downward pressure from my resting hands causes the screen to lift and it will fall back. More generally, the Surface has a habit of hanging if I've had a browser open for more than a few hours because it handles the 8GB memory worse than the 4GB I have on my 2014 model XPS 13 and I constantly have to restart. I've put up with it, but in the last 4 months, one of the hinges just gave way, the type cover started to come apart at the plastic bracket causing lots of connection issues with the keyboard (fortunately some superglue has solved that issue), the charger breaking for the second time recently (without any outward signs of wear) was the final straw for me and I just want out. I've still got 1 month of warranty and RMA'd the charger again and will be selling it as soon as I can. I only came to this decision in the last 48 hours and I've had a quick look at 2-in-1s that are primarily laptops with tablet functionality for writing notes, rather than the Surface being a tablet with laptop functionality. And it seems like the major competitors within my budget are last year's XPS 13 2-in-1 (7390), some kind of Thinkpad X1 Yoga, and the HP Spectre x360 14" (not sure about how HP's naming scheme works since there seems to be a dozen Spectre x360s on their website).
~£900-1100.
Yes. I also have access to the student discount on Dell's outlet for example. It's probably preferable to get a refurb.
As above, I think 2-in-1s are what I'm focused on because having the option to handwrite some notes has been extremely useful for me. Performance matters more to me than battery life since I almost always have a charger with me if it is not already plugged in.
Not the highest priority, I think modern laptops are pretty thing compared to what I've had in the past, but I'd rather something be lighter than heavier considering my EDC can get quite cumbersome (gym kit, water bottle, books, steth, any shopping, etc.)
13" has been my go to since owning a Dell M1330. I've gotten used to the 3:2 form factor of the Surface, so I think 16:10 would be preferable over 16:9, but that's about it. I don't really need extremely high resolutions
Some occasional editing and design work on Photoshop. Maybe light gaming, but nothing intense. One issue I've had with my Surface is that it throttled when playing games on DOSBOX like the original X-Com, which isn't a huge deal since I have primarily gamed on console since 2007, but the ability to play some games on Windows, especially ones from the 90s, without stuttering would be nice.
Just hitting a steady 30FPS in games is more than enough for me, if that.
A good touchpad, nice to type on, some degree of self-service can be nice if I need to make my own repairs in the future when it runs out of warranty. Good pen compatibility.
I've had Dell XPS laptops since the M1330, through to the XPS 13 and never had any significant issues with them until I'd owned them for 5+ years. They are my baseline. My M1330 was 6 years old when the charging port failed and I didn't care enough to replace it even though I know I could have. I still have the 2014 model of XPS 13 (9330) and it still worked like a charm until the charger cable broke from wear and tear about a year ago and the Surface became my main; I'm sure it would still work great if I bothered to get a charger for it now, but I was more than happy cruising with the Surface until recently So long as I can watch videos/movies, open a dozen tabs without slowing down, and do my work, I am mostly happy. Looking for a new laptop for a student Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:13 PM PST Looking for a Laptop to mostly take notes and use Microsoft Teams, Excel etc. and running some basic progams like Ecplise. A good looking display would be nice too to watch some videos. So basically the gpu is not really important but the cpu should be not too bad. The battery life should be around 9 hours and the price ideally not over 666. At the moment I have a r558u from asus but the battery and display doesn't work like they used to. I'm from Germany.
