Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:42 AM PST Hello, I have a Lenovo Ideapad that my father left as he passed away. The touchpad 's coating seems to be compromised because it is no so slippery anymore. Do you know any way to fix this issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:42 AM PST I own an Acer Aspire and already since a few months ago I wasn't able to charge it anymore. It's my second time changing the power supply / cable (?, sorry, English isn't my first language). This lead me to believe the charging socket (?) is broken. Is this the only possible cause or might it be something else? I don't want let something get repaired that works fine. Or should I pay the extra 40 bucks to get it checked? (Or is there a sub more dedicated to broken pcs and laptops?) [link] [comments]

I don't really know laptops very well can you guys help Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:43 PM PST https://www.kijiji.ca/v-portables/ville-de-montreal/laptop-dell-latitude-e6430s-i7/1533217092 Should I jump on this? I need it primarily for school and I'd like to game on it a little bit if possible. Nothing too big though mostly small indie games. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 08:51 AM PST Looking for a 2 in 1 laptop for school and basic photo editing for 600-900 USD. I am between the Acer Spin 5, the HP Envy 360 13", and the Lenovo Flex 5 14. My ideal setup will be on-the-go much of the time, so able to take to coffee shops and class, and then bring it home to dock with a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse/charging, and potentially eventually a second "e-ink" monitor for reading while using the laptop to take written notes in OneNote. For this to be possible, do I need to get the Spin 5 because it has Thunderbolt 3? Or will it be possible to do with USB-C docks with the Envy and Flex 5 as well? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Looking for a €700-€750 (gaming)laptop Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:08 PM PST Hi, i'm looking for a (gaming)laptop for €700-750. Does anyone know where to find one? [link] [comments]
What type of display are Asus/Acer using? Want to avoid it. Posted: 01 Nov 2020 08:16 AM PST I bought a cheapo laptop as a backup last year (Asus X555QA) and the display is horrible even for watching the occasional Youtube video. Tech specs on Asus's website only mention this, which is what I am seeing on other MFG's websites:
I haven't kept up with newer screen technology. How can I find out what type of display panel is on thing, so I can avoid it and anything that even comes close? I'm comparing to a $200, 10-year-old LCD monitor here... shouldn't modern displays all be leagues ahead of this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:56 AM PST Hey guys, How are you! I need to buy a laptop for my brother. He is interested in gaming and he is also going to major in computer science... So this IT stuff with gaming... Could anyone suggest me a resonably priced gaming laptop? Fav games: Valorant, GTA5, etc [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 11:31 AM PST I'm going to be buying a laptop for myself in the near future, and i'll be running mass automation software with it, so i'll need a very solid ram. i'm not particularly concerned with graphics as long as the computer doesn't look terrible. would buying a laptop and replacing the ram be better to fit my needs, or is there any laptops that already have what i need? Thanks in advance:) [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:52 AM PST Hey I've been out of the tech world for years now and I'm wanting to purchase a new laptop. Unfortunately I'm on a budget but here's what I'm wanting to do with it. I just need to edit some gopro footage (about 6 hours total) into some YouTube videos. Its all shot in 1440 but in the future I'll have some 2.7k (maybe). Other than that, maybe edit photos and browse the internet. Wanting to stay under 800 bucks if possible, I know black Friday is coming up. Let me know what y'all think, thank you. Buy Huawei X Pro 2020 now.... or wait for something else? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:58 AM PST I am not sure whether or not to buy this. It is on sale, and it has some good plus points (screen etc) and some bad points e.g. the cooling issue. However I am looking for a premium laptop and this does fit the bill with build, screen glass trackpad, size. So, it is on sale right now and it is a pretty good deal. However there are new laptops coming out this holiday season e.g. Asus with the 11th gen in them (would rather go AMD but there aren't in any decent laptops). Would you stick or twist? Sending laptop in for service, how can I protect what's stored inside? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:28 AM PST I have a full ssd in my laptop that needs to go to service for potentially fixing hinges. I have a ssd inside full of work projects and family photos. What's the best way to protect these folders? Is there a software that puts password requirements on folders or do you have better ideas? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Laptop Hp Omen turns off when unplugged Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:48 AM PST Since yesterday, my equipment turned off when disconnected it, the battery is at 66% and does not charge beyond that (since I turned it back on) Is it a battery problem? Or maybe it could be due to a software or driver problem? (It's already updated) [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:19 AM PST I found what I believe to be a good deal on a laptop that I have been looking at for several weeks now. The only problem is that to get the 16GB option I need to get the 4k display option... I don't think the trade off for the battery would be worth it, especially on a 14" display. What are your opinions? [link] [comments]

I spent $400 on a i7-6600U laptop. Was I a fool? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:56 PM PDT I've been in the need of a laptop for office work and media consumption. I have recently bought a like-new Lenovo ThinkPad T-460s with the following specifications:
I had several reservations before buying the laptop, the primary one of which was its dual-core i7-6600U. I've been considering buying a cheap, new Ryzen 3500U laptop, but all the one's I could find for the price, like the ASUS Viobook owned by a family member of mine, are build out of cheap plastic and feel horrible to use. My ThinkPad feels like a tank in comparison and feels like a joy in the hand. And I hardly feel a difference performance-wise between mine and the ASUS. But what I'm starting to fear is that it won't be long when the i7-6600U starts to feel slow. How long should I expect the i7-6600U to hold up for office-work and media consumption workloads. Did I overspend on this laptop? Should I sell it while I can? My many thanks in advance for any advice y'all can give! P.S. Before buying the Lenovo, I bought a similarly spec'ed Dell Latitude for $340, but due to problems with coil whine, I returned it and have avoided Dell laptops ever since. [link] [comments]

What can a laptop like this do, and not do? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:18 AM PST I'm trying to get something that's good for school work, but can also run a few games on rather low settings [link] [comments]
A sound coming from my new Asus Tuf A15 Posted: 01 Nov 2020 03:08 AM PST I got a new Tuf A15 a few days ago and today I noticed a very low sound coming from it. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe like an insect chirping? I don't hear it on my older laptops. I've uploaded the sound clip here. Is this normal or could be a cause for concern? [link] [comments]
CPU Overheating after fresh thermal paste installation. Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:12 AM PST So, I have an MSI GL63 8RC and i have been having some heating issues with the CPU, i did finally change the thermal paste today (again), I'm using Coolermaster Mastergel Pro (with a flat nozzle). It works fine for maybe an hour and then the CPU temps just jump when i run anything even remotely intensive. While gaming, the CPU temps fluctuate quite abruptly, 65C to 75C within a second for example. And that's on 50-60% load. I have a few theories as to why this is happening
Any suggestions from other MSI owners or anyone with a lot of experience with laptops are welcome. I'm thinking to go with a better thermal paste, like the Noctua NH-DH1 as a last resort but not sure if its worth it. [link] [comments]
