Google Chrome vs Microsoft Edge Android Apps

Google Chrome vs Microsoft Edge Android Apps

    Google Chrome vs Microsoft Edge

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:21 AM PDT

Which one is the better browser? I'm having some issues with Google Chrome recently like sometimes the scrolling gets laggy, sometimes you can't go back and page gets freezed or sometimes you can't download images. I've not used edge yet and I don't know how it works. If it's better than Chrome I'll definitely use it as first choice.

[Open-source] Budget My Life - A beautiful and intuitive budgeting app

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:33 PM PDT

    Hey all!

I'm a college student who spent their summer making their first app using Flutter! I put a ton of time into making a budgeting app that is beautiful and intuitive to use :)

There's still features I'm planning to add later, like dark/AMOLED mode, depending on the demand for those.

    Features:

    • Labels: Tag your transactions with labels to gain insights on how you spend and earn your money. The app comes with some labels to get you started, feel free to edit them or add some more!
    • Insights: There's an entire screen to view insights on your money management. View different ranges from this week, this month, and lifetime transactions.
    • Design: The app was designed with intuitiveness to the user in mind. The animations were made to make the app feel like a joy to use while not being over the top. All insights on your spending are shown through clean charts.
    • Speed: The app was coded to be as lightweight and efficient as possible, running on even the lowest end devices.
    • Privacy: With no data leaving your device, your privacy is guaranteed in this application.
    • 100% Free and No Ads: This app is and always will be 100% free, no in-app purchases. It shouldn't cost money to manage your money, and ads ruin the look of the app.
    • Open-source: Software is best built when people come together to create something they all love. Head over to the repo to contribute!

    - Setting specific time periods for your self-defined goals
    - Displaying weekly, monthly or even longer progress in a very elegant and informative graph, with trend from moving average
    - Light and dark color theme

    Future plans involve:
    - Workout tracking
    - Setting reminders
    - Creating and editing profiles
    - Google fit sync
    - Adding notes and progress pictures to entries

I'm really looking forward to your feedback and further feature suggestions!

A good fully free video editor.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:14 AM PDT

I'm looking for a 100% free video editor. No locked features, no subscription, nothing. Nothing I can purchase at all. It doesn't have to be amazing. I just want to be able to cut (obviously), add and cut music, and for the app to not be super crappy.

Writing app w/ word count alerts and markers

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:29 AM PDT

I'm looking for a writing app that shows (or can be made to show) when a certain word count has been reached, and maintains a visual indicator of that spot. For example, I'm writing a document and want to be able to see the location of word 100, 350 and 700. Is there anything like that? Thanks!

Please help: I'm looking for a tool to help me organize, review, and make notes about apps that I download, to help me choose which ones to keep, which ones to avoid in the future, and so on.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:32 AM PDT

I have a bit of a hobby/habit, where I'll download a bunch of apps that look interesting or productive (or sometimes just fun), and then have a dive into their feature sets and functionality, comparing all the apps I just downloaded.

My problem is that I don't have an easy way to keep track of what I've downloaded, or make notes attached to a specific app, which I can keep, and easily compare with several others at once.

A few years ago, there was a great app called app wishlist (or something), which eventually stopped working, and is no longer on the store anyway, in which you would make an entry for an app, by sharing the link from the Play Store to the wishlist, or by directly making an entry. You could categorize them any way you wanted, make notes about them, and it would even let your sort and filter your apps in tons of way, like: sort by date installed or when you added notes about it, or by date uninstalled; you could filter out all apps you had tagged in some way, and tons of other stuff.

Just as one example of some of the numerous app types I want to do this with: tally/counter apps. There are several use cases I have for these, from a tool for just counting specific things that happen during a day, to simple point tracking for my board gaming group, to habit tracking. I've downloaded about 30 different counter apps to review and compare them, but it's just so hard to do ever since I lost that wonderful wishlist app.

Can anyone recommend anything to me? I'd love to find a genuine replacement for that app, but even a desktop or web app that's aimed at this sort of thing would be helpful.

Looking for an alternative to Audioshift Tempo and Pitch control for Android +5 system.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:15 AM PDT

The purpose of this application was to modify the audio in its entirety of the system, the drawback is that the development stopped and it remained compatible with Android 2 and 3.

I was seeing if there was any alternative for more recent systems or at least from Lollipop (I have Oreo and I hope an update to 10), I am looking for an option compatible with these systems, there is nothing similar in Google Play.

A text editor that has scripting support.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:06 AM PDT

I want to play solo RPGs on my phone and am looking for a text editor that lets me expand its functionality with programming so I can handle random generation, dice rolls, and writing the story on the same app. My phone is not rooted and is running on Android 10.

    Baseline Functionality:

    1. Text editing, obviously.
    2. Scripting support, I'm open to learning any programming language that it uses.

Bonus Functionality: (Not required, but still would be nice)

    1. Theme editing, I like trying to make everything on my phone have the same color scheme, so theme editing would be nice, or at least just dark mode.

    Handwriting to LaTex Scanner

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:07 AM PDT

Is there any document scanner application that will convert hand written equations to LaTex? I've found a lot of note taking applications that support LaTex, but nothing where I can scan in a document full of equations. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

    Good bilingual swiping keyboard?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:40 AM PDT

I use the Gboard,c and it's ok when I stick to one language. But if I need to use the other language in the sentence, and then switch back it gets all confused and weird.

I think it's prefer to have a button to select a language and not depend on the app to guess it. But press holding spacebar and picking a language is slow and inconvenient. Is there anything better?

Looking for a gallery app that handles burst shots nicely

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:34 AM PDT

I take a lot of burst shots, and Google photos is decent with them but has issues, and all other gallery apps just ignore burst shots and just list all photos (which is tedious when you take hundreds of shots per burst and more than one burst..)

I know Samsung gallery can do it nicely, but I'm on Sony and when I installed the APK it just crashes saying permission denied

Does holding down the Bixby button use up power if it's disabled?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:41 AM PDT

I have a clip for my PS4 controller, but you have to slant your phone sideways to avoid the Bixby button (fuck you Samsung!) but I know there's an app that will disable the button. But I'm wondering if having the clip hold down the button will activate some sort of endless looping mechanism which will damage the phone or drain the battery, or the button itself is completely redundant and not even registered by the phone while the app is active.

Looking for an app that can transfer saved Wi-Fi networks

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:53 AM PDT

I have a Pixel 1 and Galaxy S10e, both old and with many saved networks on them. I'm fine with either one being the source of the backup.

I want to restore them onto a new Pixel 4a. The first-run transfer didn't get them for some reason, maybe Samsung did something weird and broke that.

App to track your drinking pace

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:28 AM PDT

A friend came up with this idea that I thought would be cool in theory, even if I don't have an immediate need for it myself (I'm on a pause from drinking for medical reasons, but would definitely have loved this back in the day).

You provide your body weight height etc.

You tell it what you drink (e.g. 500ml of 5% beer). It calculates the alcohol consumed.

The app then tells you when you should drink your next drink.

The "should" is based upon the various drinking paths you can select, but they're all pretty moderate. E.g. don't get any more drunk (I believe the liver metabolizes 1 unit of alcohol per hour, so if you drunk 1 beer every 2 hours that would be about right). Or just get slightly tipsy.

There would be a little timer and notification telling the drinker when it's okay to drink again.

The overall aim of this, instead of facilitating drunkenness, would actually be the exact opposite of this: to help people to drink at a reasonable pace. To train them away from binge drinking and drinking under peer pressure. And to prevent them from drinking so quickly that they either end up getting drunk or blacking out.

I reckon that if people were able to get notifications to tell them what pace they should be drinking at it would make it a lot more obvious how insane and destructive doing things like drinking 4-5 beers an hour as "pre gaming" is.

Does anything like this exist? Any thoughts?
