Laptop recommendations? (Badly need help) Posted: 23 Jun 2020 02:02 PM PDT Hey guys. I'll be getting a refurbished laptop soon (since a new one would cost me a fortune) and I really need your help and suggestions. I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT LAPTOPS SO I NEED TO KNOW LITERALLY EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THEM Been using Dell all my life so I'd like to stick with Dell or go for HP. If you think I should switch, please lmk. Also, I'll be using this for a really long time so I'll try to future proof it as much as I can, do keep that in mind and lmk if I should go for a laptop or a mobile workstation. ■What I want in my laptop (pls suggest if I should make changes):
■What I'll be using it for (mostly):
Can't think of anything else. I know this post is a mess but any help will be appreciated. Also, please UPVOTE so I can get recommendations from lots of people on here. Thanks a million! [link] [comments]

Should I buy the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14” over the MacBook Air 2020? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:02 AM PDT I was thinking of getting the MacBook Air 2020 with the i5 upgrade for about $1350, but then I saw this laptop at $1200, and it packs double the RAM at 16GB which is also faster, a Ryzen 7 4800U 8-core CPU, as well as a full terabyte of M.2 NVMe SSD, compared to a rather small 256GB on the MacBook. In addition to this it has full sRGB coverage, 15h battery-life, WiFi 6 and most importantly no thermal issues . To be honest, I can't find a single flaw. My question is how can this be $150 cheaper than the MacBook? Are there any deal-breaker compromises I am missing? Here's a link, it's in Swedish but I think you can see the important parts. Imagine that I bought a new Laptop and I want it to last for as long as possible Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:55 AM PDT Imagine that I bought a new, expensive laptop from now till midyear. Laptops in general "decline in quality" i.e slows down over time due to usage. What should I do in order to slow down this decline and how do I take care of a Laptop? What should I be doing so that my Laptop could last as long as possible? [link] [comments]

Just got my Lenovo Flex 5 14: AMA Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:29 AM PDT I just got my flex 5 in the mail, and if anyone has any questions about build quality, performance, etc, I would be happy to help. The specs are: AMD Ryzen 7 4700u 16 gb ram 512 storage Here's the link if anyone wants it. https://www.costco.com/lenovo-flex-5-14%22-2-in-1-touchscreen-laptop---amd-ryzen-7-4700u---1080p.product.100579313.html [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jun 2020 05:39 AM PDT I bought an Acer nitro 5(specs are 8gb of ram, rtx 2060, intel i7 9750h and a 120hz monitor) which costed around 1100. When being used for simple internet browsing the cpu temp hits around 65-70c and when playing Fortnite which is not a very demanding game, the temp hits 95c+ causing major throttling. Any help would be very very appreciated as I've been saving for this laptop for a while and would hate to see this as a persistent problem [link] [comments]

Using Thermal Pads on Laptops (Dell Inspiron 15 5585) Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:53 PM PDT So I bought the Dell Inspiron 15 5585 that has a Ryzen 7 3700U a year ago. Thing's a beast, but thermals and battery life are atrocious. I noticed the other day that at idle it's in the 40s and 50s and the fans would turn on occasionally. I'm looking at selling it, so I replaced the thermal paste and it got the idle temps down to 35, which is amazing! However, when I do anything stressful like a game, it takes forever to come down in temperature. Sometimes it doesn't even come down below 50 until I turn it off and leave it off for a long period of time. Even then, if I'm running anything the temps will spike to 50 at the minimum. I am wondering if this is common with the 5585 or other similar inspiron laptops or other laptops with a 3700U. Second, has anyone used thermal pads on their laptops? Since I'm selling them to a friend who will never be opening up the laptop, I heard that thermal pads could be good for that. Has anyone used them on a laptop? Are they any good? Got the idea from an LTT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpphKzmDiJM [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:47 PM PDT Hi so I have an ideapad s145. I'm not upgrading it for gaming but I am upgrading it, as it was cheaper to do so, than buy it premade with the parts I added. I need to know what this extra space is for and if I can add another chip The space looks exactly like the chip above my ram, but without the chip in it. I don't trust Lenovo's support site as they tried telling me I couldn't add an m.2, even though it had the slot and I pictured it in a post there Can someone tell me if I can do anything with that space, and if so, can I get recommendations? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:42 PM PDT I was stuck in deciding which laptop to go for between the 1. Acer Predator Triton 500 PTP515-51(1TB SSD) 2. MSI GL65 9SEK-260IN(1TB HDD+ 256GB SSD) 16GB Ram+RTX2060 version in both the cases. From what I have read, Acer Triton has better stats to GL65 (battery life and I guess complete SSD) But from what I have heard from some ppl is, Acer doesent make good laptops and have issues, thus going for MSI is better even though specs wise it's a bit inferior to the Acer Triton they have hardware issues and don't have well made laptops. I am an amateur at this, so wanted to know your opinion :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:38 PM PDT So I have an MSI GF65 Thin 95D which is a very high power gaming laptop. I recently bought it for gaming and for classes during college. With experience, I can let it sit for maybe 6ish hours while on battery saving settings before it dies. This is not ideal for college so I would like to get a power bank - ideally small and portable I can take to my classes - in order to practically extend my laptop's playing time outside of my dorm. From what I see on the adapter that came with my laptop, I need something that can do 19.5V and 9.23A with DC power. Alternatively, though not preferred due to long cords, I would like a power bank that has an AC US Female power outlet on it. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it. Budget is $200. Edit: Laptop battery is 51wh. So I would prefer a power bank with at least 50wh more, ideally 100+ wh. [link] [comments] |
