Small SSD + Hard disk storage , big difference?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 03:22 PM PDT

I'm looking for a laptop to buy, and in my country prices are ridiculously high, even more so because of the pandemic, and I'm looking at two candidates with same processors and Ram but following differences:

    Laptop A: 1TB HDD and a 1080p TN screen Laptop B: 128gb SSD (M.2 2280) + 1TB HDD and 768p TN screen

I know TN screens suck and all but only rich people can afford what Americans get very cheap in their country, so my query is because I'm thinking of going for the FullHD option if the small SSD doesn't provide enough of a performance boost to be better, what you guys think based on your experiences?

Two good laptop deals, which is better?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:43 AM PDT

Not sure if there is a better place to post this, but I came across two deals from Costco that are the exact same price. You all here seem to have a lot of experience with laptops and might be able to help me decide.

General specs are identical, except the envy only has 8gb of ram. I'm interested in how much better the screen, webcam, and build is on the envy, to justify buying it over the Lenovo.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I was reading online and learned my laptop is capped at 60 fps but in game it says i am getting 120fps and a monitor might allow me to increase my cap. Just thought i would ask here before i spend $500 on a 144hz monitor. Here is the link to the laptop

Does anyone know how to manually control laptop fan speeds?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:49 AM PDT

I have an Acer aspire v3 2016 that I'm trying to game on. I've already reduced the cpu voltage to -.100, now I would like to access the fans so I can crank them to the max to reduce thermal throttling. Any tricks? ((UPDATE)) I found an app that's called notebook fan control, with it I was able to crank my fan to 100% and my thermals dropped by about 10 deg. C

I'm in need of some assistance. I've been looking for a gaming laptop that costs less than $750. So I've been browsing the internet and I came across this Chinese company named "Hasee" who's products' prices are seemingly too good to be true.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:34 AM PDT

I don't understand, the laptop I'm looking at costs a full $699 with specs that are frankly amazing for such a price point (atleast for me in Serbia were laptops that are normally $700 cost $1000+) so I don't really know. From what I'm seeing this seems to be a good laptop with great reviews but I am not sure. I would like to hear you're guys' opinions on this.

Asus Zephyrus G15 suddenly has random freeze issues?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:33 AM PDT

Hi! So basically as the title says, starting today my laptop has been having random hard freezes. Nothing works and the only way to get out of the freeze is by force shutting down the laptop (keeping the power button down).

Any idea what could have caused this? It is only a couple of months old and I don't think I downloaded anything sketchy. My antivirus doesn't pick up anything malicious either.

If I don't keep on pressing any key on my keyboard, my laptop would turn off.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:51 AM PDT

I left my laptop on for an hour or so. I came back and found that the laptop was off. I tried power button. No response. I plugged in the charger. Then tried power button. No response. Pressed enter key twice. The laptop turned ON. It started. Then went OFF again. Somehow I figured out that if i don't keep on pressing a button on the keyboard at 1 key per second or so, it'd shut down. I made it to my desktop somehow. Hoping that t now it wouldn't go OFF, I stopped hitting the keys.... And it went OFF again.

    Convertible for University 800€ - 1200€ Germany

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:44 AM PDT

Hello guys I'm struggling pretty bad right now to find a fitting laptop for university maybe someone has expierence with a certain model and could help me out a bit or lead me into a direction.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      800€ - 1200€
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
I'd like to buy a brand new one
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
It has to be a convertible 2 in 1 with a pen, ultrabook would be preferred but not necessary, performance should be good too as I'm going to use it for programming and the battery should last for at least 8 hours
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
lightweight and slim would but nice but not a must
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      at least 13"
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
as I already mentioned im using it for programming in university
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I have my gaming rig at home so no real need for gaming capabilities
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good feeling peripherals especially the pen for writing and good build quality in general I guess, I don`t it to break down after a little drop or 2-3 years of wear and tear
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Well It doesn`t really matter but if its a dark color that would be cool :)

If anyone could help me out I would like to thank you in advance, you're going to be hero ;)

    Is 64gb storage enough?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:46 AM PDT

I will be mainly working from home on it, which occasionally involves downloading pictures and videos. I also intend on writing a book on it using Microsoft Word. Will 64gb and 4 RAM be enough?

I'm technologically inept so a little clueless about how much storage and memory I need.
