Is this a good laptop for school? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:22 AM PST Sorry for the spam of my posts recently but i want to get the right laptop, as In Australia laptops are a lot more expensive. Will this laptop be good enough for, rendering, photoshop, editing and simple google etc? I know it's pretty light and looks good, but it only has 8gb's of ram and no dedicated gpu, will it be good enough? [link] [comments] |
Need commuter laptop with 2560x1440 display Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:35 PM PST
I specifically need 2560x1440p so I do not have to resize the remote session (I can using arcane commands but it is a huge pain to run the command and then resize all the open windows). Also, any resolution significantly higher than 2560x1440p means that I'll only be using a portion of the screen are for the remote session, which will make it harder to see detail. I am open to a higher resolution as long a 2560x1440p subset of the screen maps to the equivalent of 15.6" of real estate (I hope this makes sense). Thinner bezels are better in order to keep the footprint of the laptop small despite large display. [link] [comments] |
Bought it already but its on backorder Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:40 PM PST Guess I could cancel the order still it's still a big TBD but is there a reason the sale is so ... saley? hoping to start in on game Dev and maybe draw a bit while I'm at it. [link] [comments] |
Looking to upgrade Dell XPS l701x Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:34 AM PST Hey Ive dug out my older laptop and realised that it dosen't quite cut it with todays games (Mainly want to Play Destiny 2, which ive understood works well on nothing too fancy!! But im only getting 20fps, id be happy with 60!) Im wondering is there any possibility of me being able to upgrade the parts, I suspect i know the answer, as I believe laptop parts are pretty custom! Like I said, not after anything fancy, just enough to get a bit more of a performance boost Current spec; CPU : Core i5 M460 @ 2.53ghz, GPU : Geforce GT 435M RAM : 8gb - Know how to improve this, just not sure thats the limiting factor currently I used to be pretty computer savvy, but been out of the game a few years so i feel a bit lost with it all!! Im fine taking apart electronics/soldering, just wanted to get an idea if there is anything i can do, short of buying a new system Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |

17 inch , Turkey , 1000-3000 dollars! Best laptop for Rendering and Architecture? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:53 AM PST Hi guys! I'm in architecture school and unfortunately I had bought a 13 inch 120 gb Macbook Pro in the beginning which i cannot use most programs on.
I have been looking at the MSI Creator series and mainly looking for a 17 inch display with a good graphics card. I don't know if I should buy a 10th gen laptop or just get a 9th gen one as I plan to use the laptop for a long time. I live in Turkey but I'm looking to order a laptop from Amazon , anything up to 3.000 dollars. It would greatly help me if you guys recommended some good laptops! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:07 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** 1,000, USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Good battery life. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Very! Weight should be around that of a MacBook air * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** Medium sized, not too large as to stand out * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** CAD & Programming (Java, so IDEs) * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** NA * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Something I absolutely can NOT live without is fast load-up. I am a current mac user and it is just the best how quickly I can open my laptop and begin work. My biggest complaint though is how incompatible it is with a lot of engineering softwares, so my next purchase has to be a windows. TL;DR need a Windows laptop w/ touchscreen and pen that is just as quick and light as a MacBook. [link] [comments] |
Academic looking for lightweight long-lasting laptop in the UK Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:28 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** £850 and will be purchasing in the UK * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Battery life and weight are key. I don't want a sluggish computer either. I would like a 2-in-1 but happy to compromise. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Weight and thinness is extremely important as I commute by bicycle and train so will be carrying it around for about 4 hours per day. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows Pro (home at a push) * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13 - 14" preferable * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I will be running Nvivo and Endnote on top of usual Office programmes like Outlook, Chrome, Adobe, Word etc * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** As I'm an academic, a good keyboard is key. I touch type and like the response of the keys on my lenovo laptop. Weight and size are really important, as is a good screen and battery life. I also like having a touch screen as it helps when reading legal documents. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I'm getting really overwhelmed by the choices, so any suggestions are warmly received. Ready for a new laptop for work Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:13 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Australia, up to around $2k AUD but could stretch Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life and best specs for money How important is weight and thinness to you? Not overly, but I do need it to be quite portable Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Strictly ~13 inch Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I use excel a lot for work. Normally have lots of workbooks open simultaneously which is starting to cause some pain for my current laptop (HP Spectre x360). I also wouldn't mind the laptop being capable of running some non-intensive games (maybe something like portal/portal 2), but this is overall not important. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? See above, not too phased about FPS as I have a proper gaming computer at home, it would more be if I was travelling I wouldn't mind the ability Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard/touchpad/build quality is important. Id like a finger print reader but it's not close to essential Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I had a very quick play with a Razer Blade Stealth and really liked the design/form factor. I thought the trackpad was great and the keyboard pretty good although I didn't use it too much. However I read that the models with the dedicated GPU limit the CPU power. I also probably don't need dedicated graphics. As a result I thought about the base model, but wondered if I might need more than 8gb of RAM. Storage is not an issue as we use cloud storage. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated. Does anyone have the link to the spreadsheet that allows you to filter through every laptop? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:53 AM PST I remember seeing it posted here a year or two ago. It allows you to filter through laptops depending on specs, price range ect. it seemed fairly professional. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:52 AM PST I want a laptop that can play games such as overwatch at a high FPS. I also want to watch media on it. I've heard the Acer predator Helios 300 and Lenovo y540 are good but I don't know what to get. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Laptop For Getting 120+ fps under 1000 dollars Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:08 PM PST I've been searching endlessly the past few days for a good laptop that meets my spec requirements and fits my price range. The specs I want for it are at least GTX 1060, 120hz or 144hz, 6 cores. The size of the laptop, the storage type and how much storage space and the ram does not matter to me (I can just buy a SSD slot or ram later on if I need it). I just want those 3 things in a laptop at a good price. The CPU and GPU to get me 120+ fps in pretty much all games now and in the future with a few settings adjustments depending on the game (the specs I mentioned are pretty much what's needed to accomplish that). I also live in Canada so even when I search in the cheaper U.S amazon stores the conversation rate always brings it above my price limit. Does such a laptop even exist? [link] [comments] |

Are there any laptops similar to the E495, if not, better Can't afford the Swift 3 with the mx150 * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Less than US 600 * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Performance, Battery life, Form factor, Build quality * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Don't want Acer Nitro 5 weight/thickness * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** N/A * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Autofusion 360, Fortnite on low settings * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Low settings 1080p 60 FPS * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Decent screen * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:17 PM PST (Before you start reading this, keep in mind that English is not my native lenguaje, so I apologise for any mistake) So, I been wanting to get a new laptop since the one I have at the moment can't be more inadequate even if I trie (my current laptop is a 10 year old HP mini, that came with windows 7 preinstalled, that now is somewhat running on windows 10), now a friend of my mother has been interested in sealing his old laptop, a "Lenovo" that is currently running on windows 8, and has 4GB of RAM (for more info in the laptop, check the contents, there's a link to a picture (yes a picture, not a screenshot) that the guy send us, keep in mind that the info is in Spanish, so you will probably need google translator help to read it). Now he's selling is the computer for the someways cheep prise of 2500 pesos (that's around 132 dollars), this is what is making me a little worried, as the price seems to be to low, in addition to that, I have never heard of "Lenovo" before, plus, my mom isn't exactly the best when it comes to computers, so I won't be surprised if her friend try to scam her in some way, in addition to that, the guy got a little defensive when we ask what model it was and how old the laptop was, and the bad fame of windows 8 has made me wonder if he just wants to get rid of a soon to be completely worthless laptop. In addition to all thous "red flags", my general lack of knowledge in computers in general, has made me at best worried and hesitant at worse, about buying this laptop. So, that's my situation, I have this offer for a laptop that might be to good to be true, and my lack of knowledge makes it difficult to me to know if buying it or not might be a bad idea [link] [comments] |

Laptops with great chassis like the Razer Blade Posted: 01 Feb 2020 11:30 PM PST Hi I'm looking for a beautiful bit of kit, the Razer blade is the benchmark for super nice chassis and looks but I feel it may be overkill if I don't game on it often, so are there any laptops out there with similar premium style chassis / looks? Not macs as I can't stand them. Cheers [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:38 PM PST Hello I'm thinking of buying this laptop Asus tuf fx705dy . Is it good for programming and designing? Also can I add hdd? If yes which hdd would be fit with this? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is this a good laptop for School work? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 10:52 PM PST Was thinking about getting this laptop as it's on sale for like $600 less. Here it is do you think this will be good enough for video editing, AutoCad and rendering? Also is it decently light? Thank you for the help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2020 10:35 PM PST First time posting here, hope this is how I'm supposed to use the Form: **Budget & Country : I'd like to keep it under $900, but $1,200 is my actual budget. United States. **2 in 1 form factor is preferred, if it's durable and will last me years. Wanting good specs for the money, but not necessarily 'the best'. I don't want a pure gaming laptop. Battery life should be at least 6 hours average. **I prefer lightweight and thin, but I'm willing to compromise on this. I don't want something that looks chunky/cumbersome. **Windows 10 OS. ** ideally 14 – 15.6" screen size. Definitely no less than 13.5". Bigger screen is preferred. **I'll be doing some old school / emulator gaming. Along with some casual video and photo editing, but 1080p will do just fine. ** The most modern game I'd want to play would include Portal 2 and Sims4, but most of the games I'll be playing would be classics like doom, or emulated N64/gcube games. There's only about 6 games that I download/play regularly. I'm happy if the frame rate drops 30 fps, but for newer games I would like them to be a bit smoother. I'd prefer the machine not overheat or have a loud cooling system. **I write and do a lot of spreadsheets for work, so keyboard needs to be ergonomically friendly, and a numberpad would be nice, but isn't necessary. I also do a lot of research, so I need to be able to watch online videos and do multi-tab research smoothly. Minimum 2 usb ports. Webcam and microphone required. Apart from gaming, I want to be creative with this machine, so sketching, creative writing, making music are all things I'd like to do more with this, but just for myself, not professionally. Supercharge/thunderbolt would be cool to have as well (usb c). This is my first time looking for a laptop in about 8 years. I'm not sure how likely it is that I'll find something with everything I want, at the price-point I'm asking, but I'm open to any recommendations, and I appreciate the help. [link] [comments] |
