New Windows 10 Build messed up my trackpad Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PST Hi, I have a HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx and downloaded windows precision driver for it a year ago. Everything was working fine until the latest windows 10 update. At first, it made my trackpad completely useless, so then I went and uninstalled something or updated something ( don't quite remember), and the trackpad is usable now, but some of it's functions are gone. I cannot scroll on anything anymore, right click is no longer a two finger tap on the right side of the track pad (I have to hard click at the bottom right hand corner of the trackpad for it to work), and the same applies for clicking anything -- I have to hard click on the bottom left corner of my trackpad to click anything. Can someone help me with this? Before this windows precision drivers worked fine with all of the gestures. When I go into the driver settings, I don't see the original synaptics drivers the laptop shipped in anymore, so I'm not even entirely sure which drivers are installed. I think it's windows, but the settings are all gone now with the update. [link] [comments]

Using a P7P55D EVO motherboard on Windows 10 Posted: 29 Nov 2019 01:08 PM PST I am looking to upgrade my machine from 64-bit Windows 7 to Windows 10, but the motherboard I am using, an ASUS P7P55D EVO, doesn't appear to have any utility drivers for Windows 10 on ASUS's website and it doesn't appear on their compatibility list. Has anybody successfully installed Windows 10 on this board? I have been told it should work fine if I use Windows 8.1 drivers, but I'm not comfortable banking on that without a confirmation. Moving/Installing Windows 10 to new SSD - What happens to drivers? Posted: 29 Nov 2019 10:37 AM PST If I install or move my windows 10 to a new SSD, how do things like graphics drivers etc. work? Will they need to be downloaded and installed again on the SSD and removed from the old HDD? Will booting from the SSD with windows now boot to an empty desktop with no graphics drivers in low resolution? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:26 PM PST it doesnt appear in the list of open windows when i alt tab again. I cant windows key + tab either, its not there. Its fucking running and i have literally no way of getting back into it. Windows decided to remove the "switch to" function in task manager as well for some fucking reason? Anyone know how I can open the window? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:04 PM PST So im going to buy a gen 1 surface laptop with an i7, 16gb of ram and 512 ssd. Ive researched, and apparently the surface laptop comes with windows 10 S, which limits the apps you download to the windows store. Due to me needing this laptop for school programs that are not in the windows store, is the switch from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Home still free? [link] [comments]
"Listen" option in sound control panel doesn't automatically update (Bug?) Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:56 PM PST I'd like to play my TV's audio through my pc's playback device without using 3rd party software. Connecting the tv out to one of the pc's inputs and selecting "listen" in the recording tab works fine, but it won't switch to a newly selected default playback device until you disable and enable listening. Would anyone happen to have a solution, or maybe a batch file to reset listening? Thanks [link] [comments]

Windows 10 mail app encoding problem Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:28 PM PST Hello. Someone that I know has a problem that he can't see correctly the name of attachments that contain characters like ã and á (tiles and accents) and also ç. This also results in him whenever he downloads these attachments to appear weirdnames like =?UTF-8?Q and he has to rename the files either to .docx or .ppt , depending on what the file type is. In this screenshot, the names are both the same, except one is named Natação and the other one is named Natacao. I think this is related to the encoding in the mail app, since he can see the attachments with no problem if he goes through his browser, is there anything I can do to help him? I have also done this but with no success Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:15 AM PST I have a Windows 7 machine which is connected to the printer. I'd like to share this printer with the network. I've already tried sharing it using control panel, but I still can see that printer from neither other Windows machines nor Linux ones. I've read on the internet that a solution could be to use Home groups, but I wouldn't still be able to access the printer from non-Windows machines. Is there any way I can share this printer and make it available for all operating systems? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:34 PM PST I need help badly I use this laptop for school which needs windows but I wanted to use linux and now after dual booting windows decided to be annoying and things wouldn't work properly, so I reset windows and kept my files which worked. I want to stop dual booting but now I want to get rid of the other partitions I have which are now unallocated, but won't go with my D partition. Any ideas since I tried to merge them with free partition tools but it wouldn't let me and my bios still shows the linux distro. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Is it a bad idea to buy my mom an inexpensive Windows 8 laptop and shut off automatic updates? Posted: 29 Nov 2019 09:05 AM PST Mom's tablet died and I'm a little tight on money - I found this seeming bargain My concern is, can it be successfully upgraded to Windows 10, or if not can I shut off automatic updates so it won't constantly bug her for an upgrade she can't do? All she does is use it to listen to podcasts as she's going to sleep, for surfing in the recliner while watching TV, and occasionally for browsing at the dinner table. She's 82 so I don't want to spend hundreds for a machine that has for more capability than she'll ever use. Any opinions? [link] [comments]

Ethernet 2 doesn't have a valid IP, tried a lot of fixes. Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:52 AM PST Didn't know where to go so I went here. Essentially what the title says, I've followed basically every tutorial and guide that I got on Google but no matter what I do I can't fix this. I got a pop-up saying something like "do you want your PC to be discoverable to other devices?" Clicked yes, got internet for a couple of minutes only for the same issue to appear again. No valid IP, and sometimes no default gateway, for whatever reason. I desperately need help. EDIT: Got my network back for the moment, seems that whenever I connect a new device it completely stops the Ethernet from working. Seems like a whole other issue, and I don't know where to start with this. Hope one of you have had something similar. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2019 07:50 AM PST Is it possible to make duplicate 2 monitors and have another 2 be different? I want a triple monitor setup but with my capture card I can only run it at 60hz. If I do THIS it will be able to run it my monitor at 144hz. But I want to have a dual monitor set up so I wonder how I can do this. [link] [comments]
Taskbar covers bottom of open windows (for example whatsapp text input box covered) Posted: 28 Nov 2019 11:01 PM PST I recently went dual monitor with my acer laptop running windows 10 home. For some reason any windows that I open, the bottom does not cut off at the taskbar, but underneath it, thus preventing me from seeing whats there or utilizing any buttons or boxes that are being covered. As the title says, when I use the desktop version of whatsapp, the text box is not accessible because it is being covered. When I slide the window to the second screen, its not a problem (the second screen being the additional monitor), it doesn't do that there, only on the screen attached to the laptop. The issue I have is when I unplug the second screen, and move the computer and want to use whatsapp, no can do, unless I move the taskbar to orient vertically on the left or right side. Any ideas on how to fix this when the taskbar is oriented horizontally. I'm posting this now and will add screenshots in a few minutes. [link] [comments]
How can I ping a specific game server with a port in cmd? Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:54 AM PST I'm getting lag spikes in Rust and get teleported back a few steps every 30 seconds or so. Checked my ping and it was 30ms which is just fine so I think the culprit is packet loss. Is there a way I can ping the specific Rust server I was connected to and check for packet loss? Also if you think my problem is something else then feel free to share your thoughts. [link] [comments]

If a do an upgrade without formatting, will it change the timestamp (Created Time) related data of my existing documents in the Primary Partition? I have a document folder with a lot of files that are organised based on date. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Scanning and repairing drive (H:) loop. Can't bypass it Posted: 28 Nov 2019 11:25 PM PST Hello, I got this BIG problem since I really need my PC today. I have downloaded a bunch of .rar archives yesterday (30+) of them, downloading 8 at once. Everything went smooth and fine but when I wanted to extract one, I had some sort of "Checksum" error in WinRar. I've had that before, and it made me repair my HDD partition so I went ahead and checked on the Properties-Tools section. Indeed, the problem was there and Windows said it couldn't fix it, but that I needed a restart. When I restarted, I was stuck in this endless loop. I tried bypassing it in cmdprompt with the bcdedit command. I've also tried chkdsk /r on that partition, but it weirdly showed absolutely no problem. I have also tried booting in Safe Mode, but no luck since it doesn't get past that screen. Do you guys have any fix for this? By the way, for my bcdedit command, by boot info was on {default} not {current} in case that may be a Boot issue. I am running the latest version of Windows reinstalled just last week. In case none of the fixes work, can I format or disable that partition from cmd prompt? My Windows is running on my SSD which seems fine at the moment. [link] [comments]
Win 7 64-bit - Deleting Previous Versions Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:50 PM PST I'm running low on HD space, so I'd like to delete 2 saved previous versions. Three are listed in Local Disk (C:) Properties, and I'd like to delete the 2 earlier versions from last week. Each is about 1.3TB. The 2 previous ones are located in: \localhost\C$\@GMT-2019.11.21-21.22.34 \localhost\C$\@GMT-2019.11.21-16.09.07 What's concerning me is that under the older versions from last week, I found files that I just saved yesterday. If I delete these older versions and keep the latest version, will I lose data? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:42 AM PST Hello, My sister has a laptop that came with 8.1 She wiped the disk to install Ubuntu but now wants Windows back. There's no Windows key sticker on the laptop. Will Windows 10 recognise the hardware and activate? Should we install 8.1 instead and will that activate? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
