Internet speed completely different for on same network Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:24 AM PDT My fiance and I are both big PC gamers. We both have gaming PC's connected directly to the modem but for some reason her connection is almost 3x faster then mine. Is there a reason why? I'll post links of my connection and hers from speedtest. I have done multiple servers all of them she is substantially ahead. Posted: 01 Oct 2019 08:07 AM PDT Hi guys, received a new computer from my company (Lenovo E490) equipped with Windows 10. All the content of my previous drive was transferred on this one, and this might include (I assume) some malware I had gotten. After setting up outlook I decided to reboot the laptop, and once logged in these windows started showing up. Google has no clue, searching for the installation keywords (petiolule, ichor, etc.) gives no result. Should I be concerned? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

I've got hard drive in it and I've just received my SSD. I was really excited to use my computer when I finished it, so I just installed Windows on the hard drive. Looking for advice on tablets, pens and drawing apps Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:11 AM PDT Hi :) this is my first post here, hopefully I dont mess it up 😅 I've been wanting to get into digital drawing and possibly animation. A friend of mine has an apple ipad pro (not sure which generation) and an apple pen along with the app pro create I think. I found an ipad pro 1st gen the other day in a store but I'm not sure if the pen will work with it. Tbh I've always just used android devices, this being possibly my first apple device. I just need to know if the pen would work with this ipad or if there's an ipad equivalent device and app that can work just as well. TIA! [link] [comments] |

Flashed a 2MB BIOS ROM on a 16MB chip, can't get it to POST? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 03:53 AM PDT Hi, a couple of months ago I lost the BIOS chip from an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard, I didn't know exactly which chip it was, but i thought that any flash memory chip large enough to store the BIOS ROM would work. I checked a bunch of different flash memory chips and saw that they all used the same pins, so I thought it was a standard and bought a couple of W25Q128FVIQ chips from ebay. They arrived a couple of days ago, so I downloaded the BIOS .ROM file from ASUS's site, and following this guide, I uploaded frser-duino on an arduino, and using the arduino as a programmer I tried flashing the chip with the flashrom utility (from my laptop, which runs arch linux btw). But then I got an error: So I just padded the ROM file to match the size: I know that I can buy a chip that's already flashed correctly for like 10-15€, but I want to see if I can make this work and save some money. Also, after researching the problem I found the model of the original chip, it should be the W25Q16, so almost identical to the two I've bought, it just has 2MB memory instead of 16MB. Any ideas? Thank you [link] [comments] |

PC restarts during game but not stress test Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:42 AM PDT Hello, First of all, sorry about the grammer mistaks since I am not a native speaker. Specs:
Issue description: I am having the issue that the pc restarts "kind of" randomly during games(PUBG, Leage of Legends, CS: GO). The restarts are not completely random during PUBG though. It usually happens the moment when I open setting, the moement when I complete the loading and get into the map, the moement I get killed (not knocked down). It also happens during CS: GO the moment when I finish loading into the map. In windows Event Viewer. All the restarts has the following events being recorded:
The test I've done on the parts:
My prediction is since there is nothing happened during the stress tests, there should be no problem with CPU and GPU themselves and there should be no thermal issues with CPU and GPU, please correct me if there are more to check with CPU and GPU. Also since the memory passes the memtest86 tests, I assume there is no issue with the memory, so i did not try to reseat or try to use only one memory, also please correct me if there are more to check with memory. The method I've tried:
There is one method I tried but partially successed:
The method I am going to try:
I suspect that the motherboard is defective, since it is the only part that I haven't checked yet. However, it costs a lot to buy a new one with the possibility that the restarts have nothing to do with the original motherboard. Can anyone suggest ways for me to test the motherboard. (BTW, can I get full refund if i get a mother board at bestbuy and return it within the 14 days so i can see if it's the problem with the motherboard? Or, is there any place I can go to test each pieces of my pc so I could find out where the problem is?) And one last question, Is is still possible that this issue is caused by the graphics card although it's okay during the stress test? Big thank you for your patience reading until here. Any help would be appreciated. (I changed the PSU, it is very unlikely that both PSU are defective). [link] [comments] |
Bunch of memory lost not sure where it goes Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:38 AM PDT There a lot of memory that is eaten up that I don't know where it goes. I have a Acer Nitro 5 with intel core i7 8GB ram. A lot of ram is used up that I cant even see in task manager. [link] [comments] |
Laptop slows down after 30 seconds Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:33 AM PDT Hello :) its my first time posting here and i have an anoying problem. A pretty long time ago I (accidentaly) closed my laptop while gaming. Since then my Laptop isnt performing as it shoud. I usually had about 150 FPS in League of Legends. After this incident my fps dropped to 30 or lower. Now the interesting part: If i decide to close and reopen my latop (or just going in engery save mode and "reusing") my laptop , it performs as it should for about 30 to 60 seconds. After that my frames drop again. I have messed with pretty much all windows settings, nvidia settings, and Intel settings. I have also completely wiped windows once and installed the latest BIOS. I would like to force my GPU and CPU to perform at its maximum becasue i think it got into an energy saving mode. On MSI-Afterburner i can only control the memory clock and the boost clock, no Voltage and Powerlimit (GTX 860m) Lets see if you can help me:) I apprechiate every suggestion ;) [link] [comments] |

Euasoo Z-7900 mouse driver won't load on Windows 10? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:00 AM PDT I have a Euasoo Z-7900 mouse and have been trying to install the software to customise it, but after install it just says "Device not ready!" on a popup that is trying to install the driver. I have left it here for a long time and it never gets passed it. I can't seem to install the driver manually as when i point windows at the driver it says there are no updated drivers there. The software is installed and loads but can never find the mouse (understandably as the bespoke driver has never loaded) Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 - USB key can't be seen in "My Computer", but is available in Disk Management Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:42 AM PDT Hi All, I was troubleshooting my friend's laptop which run on Windows 10. She told me since the last update that her usb drives no longer work. I tried multiple things and even rolledback to the previous version and the problem persists. I discovered in the disk management that all drives were automatically assigned to drive D:. After changing the drive from D: to anything else like K,L,M, the USB key was now showing up and she was able to access all her files. I did the procedure for all her keys, but I'd prefer a permanent solution so she could use USB keys colleague would give her without having to rename the key... I'm still on Windows 7, so I'm not too familiar with windows 10 yet. [link] [comments] |

Need to install Windows 10 to an external harddrive, only got access to a live usb with linux on it. Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:15 AM PDT So after my laptop has successfully destroyed 3 harddrives in 9 months, I wanted to try and run windows off of an External Drive connected via USB. However I didnt realize windows doesn't let you install to an external drive. I've seen there are some programs that let you create a portable windows installation, but they require you to already have access to a functional computer with windows. At best right now I can boot into a usb meant for installing linux mint, which gives me a temporary linux environment I can do things from. Is there a way for me to use linux to create a bootable external windows drive? I have the win10 installation media on a usb already. Edit: Just to clarify, there are no working internal harddrives in the laptop. [link] [comments] |
Can't seem to speed up flash video Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:15 AM PDT Hey everyone. I have mandatory videos to watch for work that are flash based (they prompt if you want flash to be allowed when opened in chrome). They are the interactive "click to advance" type, which record your peogress. Previously, with a different training vendor, enounce myspeed worked to speed the videos up. It doesn't seem to work with this vendor. I also tried 1 other chrome extension which doesn't seem to work. I'm willing to use chrome/Firefox/edge/whatever to run the site, but I just need to figure out a way to speed the videos up, because they're an enormous time sink. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:11 AM PDT So, like in the title, I am casting a game from my PC to my TV using a Steam Link. I am downloading a big update for a game and my Steam link is having a really bad connection to my PC via 5GHz WiFi, even though the router is right in the next room over and the PC is connected to the router via ethernet. Can downloading a file really create issues like this? [link] [comments] |
