What is causing my computer to "freeze"? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:22 PM PDT I am running a game (For Honor @ 1.5gb memory), Chrome with 35 tabs open (1.5gb memory), and a few other small programs that are very low cost. If I was running out of memory, wouldn't Windows tell me? For Honor actually told me my system was low on "virtual memory" (what is that?), not Windows. My memory usage only went up to ~50% at the highest point. My computer froze, and I had to hard shut off. My CPU's highest temperature is ~59C. What is the cause of freezes like this? Mouse issue (the cursor doesn't respond correctly) Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:35 AM PDT I've cleaned the sensor under the mouse, unplugged and plugged it again and restarted Windows, but it still behaves in that way. Edit: I've tried with another mouse, and the exact same thing happens. Perhaps is a Windows problem? [link] [comments] |
Ext. hard drive not detected, maybe driver usb issue or hardware? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:59 AM PDT Hello, I recently wanted to access my ext. hard drive. But it wasn't show up on explorer. I looked up on disk management, it's there, but with free space 100%, (it's weird because i know it shouldn't be empty) img disk mgmt. I tried on other usb port, still same issue. Then i try with my other ext. hard drive, i even swaped the cable and case (i have some ext. hard drive), still the same issue. And then, when i plugged it in at my friend's notebook, it does work normally (all of them). I suspect the problem come from my usb driver. But I plug some of my flashdrives, it does work, even with my other mouses. I uninstalled the usb driver and let windows fix it self, doesn't work. I even use driverpack, choose chipset and controller storage, still doesn't work. If it was a hardware (usb port) problem, it shouldn't work with any usb i plugged is it? Or it's other issue i don't know. I want to mount the drive (because disk mgmt recognize it), but i'm afraid it will format my ext. hard drive. I appreciate any responses, and pardon my english :))

Undoing changes made to your computer Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:29 AM PDT So I went for a shower and my computer has decided to update itself. Now it's been stuck in this screen for about 20 minutes, maybe more. Any idea on what I should do? I've never seen this before. Edit: I don't have a disk it USB to install from. Edit: I can't access my computer obviously but can respond using my phone. I can provide some specifications regarding the computer but only those I remember. [link] [comments] |
Can't find default security key for wireless router. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:55 PM PDT So I reset my wireless router to solve a seperate problem but now i cant connect to it at all because I don't know the default network security key (I am pretty sure the default SSID is NETGEAR) neither are actually labeled on the bottom of the router so i am kind of at a loss on how to find the default security key. Oh and the router model is a WGR614 v 7. Any help that doesnt involve somehow already being connected to the router would be great cause that is all google is showing me. [link] [comments] |
How do I change my IP address on my iPhone X while connected on mobile data? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:00 AM PDT I am aware that the ip address is that of the network tower near me, however is there a way to change the IP by changing towers or some other method? [link] [comments] |
Is it a bad idea to open my HDD? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:56 AM PDT My HDD makes a clicking sound and whenever that clicking sound happens my pc just freezes. I heard the clicking might be because the needle moving into the roundpart of the HDD. So I was thinking of opening and adjusting it. Is it safe to open it? [link] [comments] |
Paging file, how to set it up properly if it's needed? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:53 AM PDT I've had some issues with certain programs (mostly GTA V) that were caused by the paging file but I managed to fix them by setting this file up. Now that I've reinstalled my OS I can't seem to remember what were the best options for it for example in which drive to put it, how many gbs of ram to give it (I have 8gb DDR4 @ 2933mhz) Thanks if you can help me [link] [comments] |

Prebuilt PC worked for 4 hours, froze, then proceeded to never boot again. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:24 PM PDT Bought a PC from CyberpowerPC, went through their awful shipping and support service. After many headaches, I received my PC in the mail. I start setting up windows, updating drivers, setting up storage. I installed steam, discord, and the essentials. Was playing rust on buttery frames at fantastic settings when my PC froze. No blue screen, just froze. I had to hard restart by holding the power button down. Never rebooted again. I thought it was a RAM problem due to many issues caused by bad ram, but I was skeptical about reviving two damaged ram for a new pc. I bought new ram, tested out every slot and combination, keeping myself grounded and the PSU off to no avail. Still didn't boot. I've never seen anywhere on the internet where a motherboard has 4 faulty ram slots. I am at a loss here, and this is my last resort before I ship it back. Posted: 02 Sep 2019 03:03 AM PDT Hello. I will give as much detail as possible right now if it makes any difference to what I need to do. So, about 12 hours ago I installed an update. I believe if was something to do with windows 1903, bit I am not sure. Anyways, as I see the installation hit 100% I sit down, accidentally kick the power cord, and unplug it. After this, I have not been able to get anything to work. At first I thought about just letting it do its thing, but that took an hour and got nowhere. So, I decided to try out recovery environment to see if I could restore somehow. Turn out no matter what I try from every tip online, I cant get it to go into recovery environment. So, I go to Walmart at midnight to get a usb so I can use the iso file to help me. Used my other computer to create it, and went to go use it. My bios is weird (alienware proprietary weird), but enabled usb support and disable safe boot. No luck even finding the option to run it. Manually added the boot file. No luck. Switched to legacy, no luck. After all these, I'd get the windows logo with endless loading. So, I switched it into legacy mode and launched the USB option. That worked, but very limited. None of the options in troubleshooting worked, and afterwards I'd still be getting a familiar "preparing automatic repair page" infinity load or just a regular infinity load. I then tried booting in legacy, and launched the manually added boot for the usb. That worked! None of the troubleshooting options worked other than system restore. I restored to the cerion right before the update, and was all good. Untill of course, I booted the device and got the same issue. So I went back and restored to a version about a week old. That loaded and I got to windows. However, my Hard drive was not showing up. So I went back and switched back to uefi and set my old boot option as priority, and am back to windows infinity loading. And I cant get back to windows anymore unless legacy boot is on, I manually select which boot option I want, and the hard drive is "disabled". I am broken and tired and have no goddamn clue in the world what to do. Any help is extremely appreciated, I am losing my mind here. [link] [comments] |

Why is this laptop so cheap if it has a 500gb hard drive? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:55 PM PDT I was looking at getting a cheap laptop (windows or chromebook) to do simple things like checking my email, watching videos on youtube and mostly transfering photos from my google photos to an external hard drive. (they must be moved to a computer first then the external drive) I found this laptop for only around 250$ and the other ones that are only 130gb cost over 400$. What makes this so cheap and would It be a bad Idea getting it? [link] [comments] |
coil whine from GPU while overclocked Posted: 02 Sep 2019 02:27 AM PDT Hi, I recently built a pc with MSI's1070 ti titanium to overclock with 2600x. For the first week, I played some csgo, league, fifa and minecraft to test the graphic card and everything looked good. Just yesterday, I played guild wars 2 and just realized my 1070 ti started making some buzzing noise. I looked it up and it sounds a lot like coil whine so I'm guessing something's wrong? I undervolted the gpu and the noise was reduced. What I want to know is, is there a way to get rid of coil whine while my gpu is overclocked? (Does adaptive sync help??) Does sending back the card for RMA actually fix anything? Thank you in advance [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:49 AM PDT Is there a way for me to download the content of an entire site's worth of text docs for reading offline? The site in question contains the complete library of a particular author's work, whom I'm researching, and it would save me masses of time to have all of the books offline in a folder/docs that I could then search. ASUS Laptop Touchpad response problem Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:06 AM PDT I have the ASUS Vivobook 14 TP412-UA Laptop. I am facing a lot of touchpad response delays. I have tried to update the driver, uninstall it, manually install the latest driver etc. Nothing seems to work. This problem comes in and goes as it wishes. And for some reason my laptop fan keeps turning on even when no applications are running on the laptop. Don't know if there is any connection or not. The drivers I have installed for the touchpad are the: 1) HID compliant mouse (under "Mice and other pointing devices") 2) ASUS Precision Touchpad (under "Human Interface Devices") Thanks a bunch. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Can I plug a dongle into an non-thunderbold USB C port? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 01:04 AM PDT So I have a laptop with an USB Type C port and I want to plug in a dongle for my screen(HDMI), keyboard etc so I don't have to plug in every cable when I need to take it with me. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 09:15 PM PDT I'm having huge wifi signal issues on my laptop completely out of the blue. Not sure where else to turn. I used my laptop this morning and was connecting just fine to the Wi-Fi in my house. However, when I went to use the laptop this evening I was not connected to the Wi-Fi at all. I tried restarting the laptop, router, and modem but it did not seem to help. The laptop can connect to Wi-Fi, but now only if I move within 5 feet of the router. I tried the original spot with a work laptop and it worked fine on the work laptop so just my personal laptop is experiencing the signal issues from no where. Tldr: Home laptop experiencing Wi-Fi signal drop from usual usage spot. [link] [comments] |
Is my CPU overheating because... old?? Posted: 02 Sep 2019 12:44 AM PDT Hey /techsupport! So... I am tired of trying to post this problem on forums and not getting any response, so I might as well try here! So, my laptop (HP Envy 14) has been overheating for the last 6 months or so, to a point that it is really hard to use normally. I used to be able to play games (LoL) while having YT on the background running, but now I can't even play normally because thermal throttling makes it impossible. I can't have more than 1 open program normally, it all starts lagging... Now, OF COURSE I have checked and made sure that the laptop is not dirty inside, I changed the thermal paste, have it all day sitting on a ventilation pad and ran diagnoses on in, but the only thing that comes unusual is the temperature on the CPU (and of course a 100% usage). It is NOT a Windows issue as I thought, because I also have the same problem on Linux, and nothing that I do seem to help... So.... what could it be? Is it because my laptop is old (4~5 years now)? Or is there anything that can be done that I am not aware of? Should I change the CPU or the whole motherboard? EDIT: Forgot to mention, temp idle is ~70º, and anything demanding (say, watching a video at 720p) makes it go to ~90º. Games or 1080p video makes it spike to 99º or even 100º sometimes. Posted: 01 Sep 2019 10:28 PM PDT So basically at like, 10 in the morning to like 12, a message was sent to almost all of my friends saying: "Hi (friend's name) are you the one in the video?" and following that is a link to youtube, and when clicked on facebook has blocked it, please help me. Not sure how but it seems like my computer randomly wakes itself Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:09 AM PDT My desktop is usually left on sleep mode so I can pop it up quick. Sometimes it will wake itself up (as if I pressed a key or moved the mouse to wake it) and will just stay awake until a bit it becomes inactive again due to no activity. It does it maybe once or twice a day (the times that I have seen it done). For example I walk up my stairs and found it on. And then last night I hit sleep. And 2 mins later it awoke itself. Any idea what causes this? [link] [comments] |
No tasks in Google Chrome jump list on Windows 10 taskbar Posted: 02 Sep 2019 04:05 AM PDT After reinstalling Windows and Chrome I have no New Window and New Incognito Window tasks on the taskbar jump list. I've already tried reinstalling Chrome with Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on the taskbar enabled and deleting User Data in Local AppData. [link] [comments] |
