Do older phone batteries cause your phone to be more sluggish due to aging? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 09:46 AM PST I asked this a while back and everyone said no. After doing some searching I found this to be true. It made common sense in my head, I just wanted to confirm this. Fact: "Old batteries can get overheated quickly, causing the phone to overheat subsequently." Fact: Processors are heat sensitive. The hotter they are, the slower they run - as they have to reduce the power usage to stop themselves from overheating. You can keep your sluggish phone much longer by simply getting a new battery. Phones after 2016 haven't really made significant progress to NEED to upgrade anyway. They've only gotten more pricey. [link] [comments]

What Is The Point Of Hole Punch Compared To Notch If It Doesn't Save Any More Space? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:01 AM PST All the space around the hole punch will be unusable, so you don't get really any more space compared to a notch like in say the one plus 6. I understand that it's an engineering achievement for companies like Samsung to have this, but I don't see how it does anything from a usability stand point and is just impressive like their edge panels, but not that useful? IDK, I much rather have a notch, cause at least then it'll be symmetrical, and not as jarring as a random hole on the screen. [link] [comments]
Hole comparison : Honor View20 and Samsung Galaxy S10 Posted: 03 Jan 2019 07:22 AM PST Honor View20 has a 4.5mm hole in its display. It's also pretty close to the corner, both horizontally and vertically. And Honor claims that it's much smaller and takes much less screen space (both in size and screen around it) than competitors. This helps keep the status bar height reduced and less screen space "wasted". Today, according to the S10 leak by Evan Blass, this is the S10's hole. Clearly, the S10 has more screen space surrounding the hole (above and on the right). I would say that the hole on the S10 is bigger but that might be subjective to myself. But the surrounding screen space will definitely add to the status bar height and the "wasted" screen space. Which one do you think does it better? PS : I know most of you will say you don't want the hole, but, it's happening.. So, to choose the better hole. [link] [comments]
Why don't more OEMs take the "Android One" route? Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:27 AM PST Software development takes lot of money and time. More so when an OEM wants to develop software for a lot of phones. As a result we see negligible to poor software support for a lot of mid-range and entry level phones. Nokia has realized this problem and jumped the Android One bandwagon. Google takes care of the software and Nokia just has to test and fix any bugs. Not every OEM has to do this, though. Big players, like Samsung and Huawei, can definitely afford developing software for their zillion phones, and more importantly come up with new features that are not yet in AOSP. The tech community needs them to keep innovating to move ahead. OEMs that are not doing so great, like Sony and LG, should try Android One. They can save a lot of money and time by not having to develop software and just relying on Android One. [link] [comments]
