Google is denying me on a massive refund because of some very strange events

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:21 PM PST

I am being denied a refund even though I am the person who placed the order and owner of the google account the order was placed on because someone fraudulently initiated a transfer of ownership posing as me.

I recently posted an add for trading my pixel where someone asked for my invoice information in a trade for his Note 9. Naively I gave it to him. He stopped responding and deleted the log afterwards. I did not thing much of it as nothing happened to my account except I saw a support case opened. However some trouble started when I tried to start a refund for my devices.

Google is saying if I do not know the email name ownership was transferred to there is nothing they can do, despite the fact I have all 8 devices, the ID and Credit Card as well as live at the residence of the order placement. Nevermind that my email is the initial one used to place the order.

Google has refused to help even though I am in possession of all ordered devices and everything needed to prove I am who I say I am.

Due to this I will be likely out of 1000s of dollars.

I have contacted UPS who will pick up my pixels and return them to the sender after which I will contact my bank to return the funds.

However I am worried if I do this I will be out both my phones and my money if things do not go right.

I cannot reiterate how shocked I am at the callous and careless way I have been treated by the support throughout this ordeal.

I am almost in tears and have never felt so powerless. Which is why I am turning to reddit to help.

If anyone has any suggestions of what I can do to retrieve my money please I urge you to tell me.

Are there any apps or services that allow you to set a reminder for when you LEAVE a location?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:54 PM PST

Google assistant allows you to set reminders when you ARRIVE at a location, but not when you LEAVE one. Anyone know of any other ways to set a geofence for when departing from somewhere?

When using the Google Assistant, is there any way to make it recognize another prompt command besides "Hey Google" or "Okay Google?"

I'd rather say something else to enable the mic and listening, is this possible?

Stuck in factory new settings loop

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 03:36 PM PST

So, my Galaxy S4 was really acting up, so I felt I needed to wipe it. But, once the phone was wiped, it tries to go into settings to do the first time setup "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." appears, and there's nothing I can do. My only option is to press "OK", and that just quickly closes and re-open settings, prompting the message again. As this is a wiped device, I can't do anything until this first time setup is finished. So, my phone is essentially bricked. Anyway to fix settings/get to the home screen?

Nexus 5X is finally kicking the bucket and I am looking for a replacement

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:35 PM PST

I loved my Nexus, but it is slowly dying. Freezing a lot, having issues with blutooth and many apps seem like they have been updated to where my phone has become a snail trying to run them. I have an unlocked Nexus and want to stay with an unlocked phone, but I haven't had anything aside from a Nexus since the 4 came out. Any recommendations?

Aaaaand it just died as I was submitting this.

Question about 16:9 video on a 16:10 screen.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:48 PM PST

Is it possible to force 16:9 video to "fill" my 16:10 screen, rather than fitting within my screen, creating black bars along the top and bottom? I'd rather have it be full screen and sacrifice a slice of the right and left sides of the video.

My device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1. I use it almost exclusively in landscape mode.

Pixel 2 unable to create stable connection via USB to windows 10

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 12:51 PM PST

This problem came out of nowhere as until today everything has been perfectly fine. I have done some simple stuff with adb, I've been using pdanet+ to get internet, and I've transferred files to and from my phone no problem.

Today I get on my computer to connect to the internet with pdanet+ and it keeps saying the phone is disconnecting/reconnecting. I thought it might just be pdanet+ cause it's usually a bit finicky - but when I tried even to just access the file storage on the phone through windows explorer it disconnects every time I try to open a folder. Sometimes I make it into 2 folders and it disconnects then immediately reconnects.

I have no idea what's wrong. It's the same cable I always use (usb-c to usb 3), and I tested it with my harddrive and the harddrive works fine. I tried re-installing google usb driver and that didn't do anything. I tried connecting with usb debugging on and off and either way I have the same problem.

As far as I'm aware neither my computer nor phone has updated between today and yesterday. I can't find any other posts with the same problem as me as the phone connects and stays connected until I try to read/write to it.

Please help, I don't want to pay Starbucks every day for good internet (I'm travelling and pdanet+ is super key for me).

Sub $200 phone to use on MintSim in the US.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 10:53 AM PST

I've had the moto g5 plus for the last year and it has served me well. Recently the power button broke. If I run out of battery or turn it off I won't be able to turn it back on, I can currently turn off the screen by using the fingerprint scanner. If I can't get it fixed at the local phone repair shop I'll have to buy another phone. What's the best phone in my price range that I can use on mint sim? I don't have brand preference. Should I go with the moto g6, nokia 6.1 or other? Thanks in advance!

Getting messages from phone that wont hold charge

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 04:08 PM PST

I have the moto g4 plus. It was having issues where it stopped charging, and now it wont charge at all. I used to be able to jiggle the charging cable just the right way but that stopped working. Is there a way I can get my messages off the phone? I already bought a new phone and don't want to pay to get a new battery etc. when I won't be using it anyway.

    Uninstall Question

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:55 PM PST

Hi. I was trying two apps to wake my phone as it doesn't have the "always on" option for ok google.

One was Gravity Screen and the other Wave Up. Both developers say to uninstall from within the app instead of the normal method. I tried both methods and both brought up the same stock android dialogue about uninstalling the app. Why do the devs want me to uninstall from within the app? Could there be security issues or remnants of the app leftover from me using them? I know one had me grant admin privileges in order to use one of its functions.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4: screen won't turn on

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 11:15 AM PST

To begin: Yesterday, I dropped my phone onto a hard floor and cracked the screen. The phone continued to work as normal for the rest of today and this morning. Today I was using my phone and noticed the screen brightness was a little lower than I thought it should be, so I decided to turn the brightness all the way down and then increase it until I thought it was at a good level.

As it turned out this was a pretty bad idea. The screen, instead of just getting really dim, completely went black, and I couldn't see the adjustment slider anymore. I checked in a completely black room with no lights on to see if the screen was on and as far as I can tell it is putting out no light at all. I've tried booting into Recovery Mode and the screen still does nothing. The phone is locked so I can't access it with a USB cable (I'd need to unlock it for that and I can't see the keyboard). I've shut down and restarted the phone both by taking out the battery and using the power button and, no surprise, that didn't do anything either.

Has anyone got any ideas? Right now I've pretty much consigned myself to having to take it to a repair shop or just buying a new phone outright.

    Can't locate virus\malware on phone

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:39 PM PST

At least a few times a day when I directly open chrome a random Korean (I think) website will be the open tab. Perhaps related, sometime my phone will toggle rapidly in an out of my home screen optoons page e.g. where it says wallpaper, widgets, settings at the bottom (I use Nova launcher).

Malwarebytes finds nothing and the only suspect apps I've installed recently were NewPipe and F-Droid, but I've uninstalled these now just in case. I'm rooted, 7.0 with Adfly installed.

    Any ideas?

    Quick question

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 06:26 PM PST

I have an LG phone, I've given very limited people my number. I got a call from in my area but missed it. When I called back it was an automated voice saying the phone isn't in service or something. What does this mean, did someone call me and then block me after?

Can the play store app data backup work on uninstalled apps?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 03:20 PM PST

If I get a new phone, or restore a back up, or uninstall an app then reinstall it from the play store, and the dev has enabled app data backups, that data is restored upon reinstalling the app from the play store.

If I wish to downgrade an app - because the developer pushed out a bad update - is there a way to uninstall the app, and have the app data restored after reinstalling via sideloading an apk? I have several settings in said app, and attempting to just install the old apk file does not work, as you cannot install old versions on top of new ones.

FRP locked tablet, Google Support won't respond

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:56 PM PST

Inherited a Samsung Tab A 10.1 a couple months ago, but the lawyer factory reset it before sending it to me. Now it's FRP locked, and Google Support hasn't responded to my requests to delete the account. I've done some searching for how to bypass the FRP lock, but haven't been able to get it to work myself. Can someone walk me through the steps or show me a easy way without having to download a whole suite of extra programmes?

    Thanks in advance!

What to look out for taking photos from far

    Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:14 PM PST

Hello, if I want my phone to be able to take photos from far and have good image quality, what specifications should I look out for?

    For example,

Does a 24MP camera take a better picture than a 12MP camera from afar?

How about a 24MP camera compared to a 12MP telephoto camera?

Is there other spec I need to notice? Assume well lit conditions
