Where did the Hibernate power option go? Posted: 29 Apr 2018 03:46 PM PDT Disclaimer: I already searched this subreddit but did not find anything relevant. I also posted this in the Windows 10 sub. So, you ever notice that when you hit the power button on the start menu, there were four different power options? Sleep, Hibernate, Shut Down, and Restart? Well, I didn't notice until a couple of days ago that the Hibernate setting had gone missing. So I went to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings\Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable, Hibernate was no longer there. I went under each Power Options sub menu, and couldn't find it. I also went to Control Panel\Programs and Features\Installed Updates\Turn Windows Features On or Off but I'm not confident enough to change anything in there. I used to use Hibernate all the time for when in case I knew I didn't just want my computer to Sleep, but didn't want to shut it off, either. Hibernate was the perfect option. Now that Hibernate is missing, I always have to shut down my computer if I know I'm going to be away for a couple of hours. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:50 PM PDT I got a touch screen HP laptop. It says it has a tablet mode, but I can't detach it from the keyboard or anything so I can't really see any uses for the touch screen. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Can't find the 'Dynamic System' setting in Viper4Windows Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:15 AM PDT Does anyone here use Viper4Windows? It's an equalizer app that's available on Android too, namely, Viper4Android. Dynamic System is a setting that the android app has, but I couldn't find it anywhere on Windows. So is there a way to enable it or does it not exist at all? [link] [comments] |
Error 0x80080005 in Win7 64Bits and "wcms" file missing Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:44 AM PDT Hello, i have to install package Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64 but that error message "error in server execution" appears, i also need to install microsoft visual c++ 2015 redistributable x64 and x86 but i get the same error message number, I dont know what to do. One problem i had was that some years ago the "sage ransomware" caught some of my pc files and changed their format and it has not been working right since then but i dont know how to fix it, the message "windows cannot find wcms.exe file" appears everytime i turn on the pc too since that happened. Any help? Edit: Another item missing seems to be "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" [link] [comments] |
Keyboard language different from Display one Posted: 29 Apr 2018 05:46 AM PDT Hello there!
Is there a way to do it? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:35 AM PDT My laptop's (Lenovo Yoga) audio coming from the headphone jack isn't all that great, and there's no built in equalizer like there should be. I'm looking for a good free equalizer that could increase the balance of my music. Preferably one that is an easy download and doesn't require a lot of steps to set up. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:15 PM PDT I require a Windows 7 virtual machine for some testing purposes. I have been looking and trying to find a way to get a legit windows 7 license to use for this, but I keep getting results for scammy "FREE WINDOWS 7, DOWNLOAD THIS EXE" sites instead of actual helpful results. I am fine with needing to pay for it, I understand that operating systems aren't free, (though free would be nice), I just need a legit license. Is there any proper way to do this anymore? Have cortana display only window search results Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:44 PM PDT The only part of cortana I'm a fan of is the search box, but it never finds me what I'm looking for. On the contrary, I hate that I have to press the windows key to type in what I need for "Search programs and files" but I always get the results I want. Can I have the Cortana search bar with the "Search Programs and files" results? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:07 PM PDT Would post a video of it, but I can't in this group, my mouse arrow (the little pointing thing on the screen) is stuck. It has nothing to do with the mouse, since when I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. I'm pretty good at tech and stuff, but I can't think of a fix, I tried restarting the computer, and disconnecting the mouse. I don't have an extra mouse that works here atm, so I haven't tried using another mouse. Please help me! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2018 03:29 PM PDT Hey everyone, sorry if this isnt the right place to post this but I'm having some issues getting dual monitors on my laptop (sony Vaio vpcsc31fm, I know it's old). Windows is detecting that the laptop screen is being used as a monitor even when the lid is closed - I am hooked up with 1 HDMI and 1 VGA cable, my gfx card is an AMD 6470m (512mb, I know, old) - I was doing some googling and it looks like you can clear out the saved display settings but the regkey that was given in the forum post I found doesnt exist in my registry. Any thought? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:25 AM PDT I just installed a new 6 TB hard drive to my windows 7 PC; and in automatically installed, but it's partitioned itself such that I can use 2.5 TB, but not the other 3.5 TB. I don't know why it did that; and I don't know how to fix it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Here's a link to a couple screen captures: https://imgur.com/a/1k9PCkL [link] [comments] |

Windows 7 NVIDIA Graphics Card Seemingly Not Working Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:58 AM PDT I installed Windows 7 on my laptop. My laptop is a Aspire E15 E5-575G-562T. It comes with 2 graphics cards, an Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated graphics, and an NVIDIA GTX GeForce 950M. When I started Skyrim, it detected my hardware, and put it "Low Quality". This was odd to me, because before (when I used Windows 10; don't suggest me to use Windows 10, I never will) it would suggest "High Quality", and I could put it on "Ultra High Quality" no sweat. I thought, "whatever, I'll just manually put it on Ultra High". So, I went into the settings, and noticed I couldn't enable Anti-Aliasing, nor Anisotropic Filtering. The only things in the dropdown menu was "Off (Best Performance)". From this, I assumed it must be using integrated graphics, since I doubt integrated graphics supports those features. So, I went ahead and got this driver: https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/133650 I run this file as admin, and it says "NVIDIA Installer Cannot Continue", and below that, "You must install an Intel driver first." So, I go ahead and find the Intel HD 620 Graphics driver (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26836/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45-?product=96551), and ran it as admin. I receive the error: "This operating system is not supported." Now, I know that Microsoft paid off Intel, so they can get people to install their spyware (A.K.A. Windows 10). So, I'm not asking what's wrong. I'm asking how to install a graphics driver for a 7th Generation processor on Windows 7. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. EDIT: If it helps any, Windows 7 says I have the latest drivers in device manager whenever I try to manually install the drivers (for both graphics cards). [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 Fall Creator Update BSOD Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:38 AM PDT Hi, so when update is installing BSOD occurs with "inaccessible boot device" cause. Funny this is that I've been using free version of windows for over 1,5 year and there were no issues. When I upgraded my PC and also bought copy of W10 this issue occured first time when i wanted do a fresh install on my SSD, when only this disc was plugged. But to bypass this I had to plug HDD also. So honestly i dont know what caused the first issue and also the problem I'm trying to fix now. BTW I've unplugged all usb devices before installing update, but it didn't change anything. Sorry for my english and thanks for all replies. [link] [comments] |

AntiVirus/AntiMalware for Windows 98 that still works/updates? Posted: 28 Apr 2018 10:18 PM PDT Is there such a software any more? EDIT: Thanks everyone for the responses. So it seems ClamWin + Clam Sentinel is the best combination that works in 2018. However the responses have peaked my interest and if you could answer a few more questions that would be very educational: Turns out Windows 98 (as u/Nicholas-Steel has pointed out) does not have a very good safety protection in place for system file tempering (if I understood correctly) which makes it a very unsafe OS at this day and age. Also as u/WiseKhan13 has pointed out, there could be browser scripts that can do much harm on older browsers. So the questions: 1) Would and can ClamWin + Clam Sentinel (or any protection) cover up these voulnerabilities? How about the unofficial SP3? 2) Would not most malware not work on older operating systems nowadays? 3) In regard to 2) - if there is in fact a lot of it still circling around, how widespread is it?
