Triple monitor gaming on a laptop (razer blade 1060 no razer core)?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:09 PM PST

I have a razer blade 2017 model with a 1060. If I get a usb c dual HDMI adapter like this one:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/kwmobile-Type-dual-HDMI-Adapter-Silver/dp/B077YJJZSJ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1520132176&sr=8-5&keywords=usbc+splitter

Will I be able to game across three screens. I'm not sure how the graphics work on a laptop, but I am guessing that the HDMI port is connected directly into the graphics card whereas the usb c port isn't.

    Help is much appreciated.

Saving a 4k res picture on Steam (video games) and then saving it to iPhone camera roll

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:51 AM PST

Does the resolution scale down when I save it to my phone? Or does it detect the resolution, and stay the same when I post it via phone?

If that doesn't make sense: I can post the picture (from steam app) on my pc and it will be 4k resolution. But, my question is, will it also be 4k if I save it (from steam app) on my phone if I don't link it but "save image" instead?

    CPU Utilization Question

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:54 AM PST

    Edit: My specs i7 8700k all stock 16gb ram GTX 1080 1440p 144hz monitor

I literally just built it 2 nights ago.

I was running HWmonitor during a game of fortnite and after i was done i checked to see what was going on while i was playing.

The first thing i noticed aside from the awesome temperatures im getting was the CPU utilization section. I noticed that their values were all pretty close in %. But i Noticed that 1 or 2 of them MAXed out at 90-100% while the others were staying down low. I never saw them hit 100% but the max said they did. Again this was during a game of fortnite.

Is this completely normal? Fortnite is pretty demanding game so i figured it was normal for the game to use the resources available, but i figured id ask anyway on the off chance that its not normal at all.

next time i play i will post a screenshot(i forgot before closing)

    Thank you in advance.

Electricity tripped at 99% on a major Windows 10 update. Now it wont start up.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 02:15 AM PST

I finally relented to windows 10s nagging and began a major update.

It got to 75% then restarted itself as exepected and got to 97 then 98 then 99%, then suddenly the electricity went out. the entire suburbs electricity had gone down.

When I turned the PC on the next day it turned on but then showed the windows logo and a small notification pops up saying windows installation has failed. Please restart installation.

I'm fairly adept at installing Windows, Linux, android86, Ubuntu or whatever but Im at a little bit of a loss as to what to do here since its an update and not an installation.

Web browsers keep prefacing with "www"

    Hi all!

    I run a site at http://chrisfoose.party.

When I try to access the site from my main computer at home both Firefox and Chrome want to make it www.chrisfoose.party but that is not my site. I think it kind of ruins the connection too.

How can I fix it so my browsers do not do that? Btw, I have connected via mobile connection and the website works perfectly through that.

    Why did this happen???

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:21 AM PST

Okay so my PC just restarted for LITERALLY NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

    • Just sitting here watching youtube and both my monitors go black and then my PC restarts itself. My fans are spinning, everything inside is working, no windows update, no updates for nothing. Everything is fucking perfect, literally nothing is wrong.

    • So why did it restart? I'm posting this because, is it a virus? I have windows defender and it scans my PC and it always tells me I have no threats. Is that legit or no?

    This has never happened before.

Whether it's coincidence or not, it has been annoying for the past months. I have been playing games such as LoL and CS so ping is quite important. When important moment come up in the games I start to lag extremely hard and only come back after a round ends or a fight ends. It has been annoying for the past few months and I don't know if it is a connection problem in general or my laptop. If you can help me I will be very thankful. Thanks.

CPU Cooler Failure after Circuit Breaker

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:38 AM PST

I was using a space heater in same circuit as my computer (but in a different outlet). After the breaker was triggered my computer boots to windows but then temperature goes to 95F within 90 seconds and the "Corsair" red warning light comes on, followed by computer freezing/turning off (it did once).

I checked my Power Supply with a PSU tester and it seems to be fine. All fans seem to be going, can't tell if the water is circulating though the CPU cooler.

It seems to me that the problem is in the water cooler. Thermal paste shouldn't be affected (or the physical connection to processor) since it was just a tripped breaker.

Does it sound like it's the CPU cooler? Could it have been damaged by the breaker?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    My System:
    MSI - Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150; Corsair - RM 850W 80+ Gold PSU; MSI; GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB; Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler; Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB; (2 ) Seagate - Desktop HDD 4TB

My external Hard drive Enclosure is not showing up. Please help!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 02:37 AM PST

I need to get files off my old Dell Inspiron N5050. The screen is cracked so i can't use it to retrieve files. It has a 500GB hard drive that's operating windows 7. I put it into a Orio external enclosure that i just bought (link at bottom). The computer that I'm connecting the external hard drive to is a Toshiba Satellite C555D-A5120 that's running Windows 10.

It doesn't show up anywhere in Devices and drives or in disk management.

No, my USB slots are not dead. Other things work in them just fine and the external hard drives light is on when plugged in. No, i don't think the hard drive is dead. I can hear it start up and can hear it making noise as long as it's plugged in which then stops when unplugged from the USB slot. No, the cord is not damaged. It just arrived today from Amazon and has no damage anywhere to it.

In device manager, other devices shows an unknown device. And lists the following: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device."

I clicked update driver, but nothing shows up. I'm not sure this unknown device is even the external hard drive as it still shows up even when unplugged. Please help. I really would like to retrieve some old photos off of my old hard drive. There has to be some way to make it show up.

Graphics card blew when attaching second monitor

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:13 PM PST

Hi everyone! I have a problem. I two monitors. A Samsung, that I've been using for a few years and a Dell, that I recently got. I tried to connect the Dell to one of the other ports on my graphics card. It has VGA, HDMI, Display port, DVI-D and DVI-I. As the Dell is a 4K is plugged that into HDMI and connected the other through DVI-I as that was the only other cable I had. A nice little pop sounded when I did it, and now it seems my graphics card is no longer working... What happened, what did I do wrong, and what should I have done? I'm obviously not a tech genius, so please, I hope you guys can help me out.

Windows 10 won't update because: “Unsupported Disk Layout for UEFI Firmware”

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:21 AM PST

Unfortunately my SSD is formatted with MBR partitions and my BIOS (Asrock X99E-ITX/AC motherboard) is running UEFI.

Now I know the two ways I could fix this:

    • Convert SSD to GPT partitions (can't do, will lose all data) - Minitool partition manager asks for $$, as do all the others. Haven't been able to find a free partition manager that can convert from MBR to GPT in-place.

    • Switch BIOS to Legacy mode (can't find it anywhere in the BIOS) - Running the latest BIOS (v3.60), Secure Boot turned off. No other "Legacy" options available apart from USB3 settings. Nothing related to "CSM/BIOS/Legacy"

    Help?

Just purchased this microphone because I was told it was the best product in its category for its price. Does not work even slightly. Ive tried uninstalling it. Ive tried downloading ASIO4ALL. Ive tried taking it apart and plugging the cables in tighter. Ive tried plugging it in backwards. Ive tried plugging it into every single USB input. Ive tried choosing audio drivers; they do not appear for me. Ive tried anything that is easily searchable online. I have no idea whats wrong, someone for the love of god help me fix this. Under driver details, there is a Code 43, which I understand indicates it is a hardware issue, however I am a broke college student and am not able to get a new USB B cable. If thats the only thing I can do I guess fuck me right

Issues with internet connection (DNS Probe Errors)

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:31 AM PST

I moved to Australia for uni a year ago, and the place I'm living in has ~5mbps internet with unlimited bandwidth. I've had issues with the WiFi before so I decided to get a powerline adapter and that fixed my issues for a while until I started getting DNS Probe error issues.

These started around August of last year but they weren't frequent, maybe 2-3 a day. However, now I'm getting one every 10 minutes. I'm not sure what to do at this point, I've used the Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), I've tried using DNSBench to test out the Nameservers and the Google servers and a few more came up all good to go but the issue is getting really bad now because I can't even study properly with this. Could it be an ISP issue? I have no idea what to do from here.

Using Win10 on a Dell 15 7567, router is a Netgear but the landlord has lost the login details to it so I'm afraid to reset it because I'm not sure how to fully set it up again. ISP is iPrimus in South Australia. Will provide any more information if needed.

Recovering lost/corrupted/deleted data from an sd card

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:28 AM PST

My brother got pulled over and arrested after a search of his vehicle. Long story short, he's currently in a situation where the local, small town cops are borderline harassing him and he claims this search was illegal. He had a dash cam running, but suspiciously the footage of just before the stop until the next time he got his vehicle is missing. It is important to have this data back but 6 hours of trying on my own with little tech knowledge and tutorials has yielded nothing. Can anyone help?

    Defragmenation Help

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 11:35 PM PST

I had decided to defrag my laptop hard drive 1TB 5200rpm after quite some time as I have constantly been downloading and deleting programs from my system. I tried Winndows Defrag but I wasn't getting any idea if it was actually doing its job or not and installed Piriform Defraggler .

It's already been a day since I started defragmentation and its still going on . I want to know whether my hardd drive can stop defrag now or is it best to wait for it to finish.

    Current state :

5091 Fragmented Files (151.5 GB) 23,069 Total Fragments 27% Fragmentation

What is the difference between Fragment Files and Total Fragments ?

how do i go about replacing my laptop's hard drive?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 11:30 PM PST

My laptop is stuck in auto repair loop, which I figure has been a long time coming, as it would have to be checked and repaired for disk errors every restart, which it would force itself to do via bluescreen everyday or so. Sometimes files would be missing, saves for my games, browser plugins, stuff I can live with. Then not long ago my network card drivers got canned. That was a bitch.

All this is to say that I think my hard drive has totally crapped out, and it's time to get a new one. What do I need to look out for? Will the drivers for the hardware(Acer laptop) be plug and play or do I have to find some disc(long gone by now) to install stuff like my network card?

First time posting here. Thanks for the help!

Slow video streaming and web page loading, but inconsistently

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:09 AM PST

    Operating System

    Windows 10

Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)

HP Pavilion laptop computer, more details in Speccy link

    Speccy Link

    http://speccy.piriform.com/results/PdxntSQB08jxSR6hVxt6M0F

    Description of problem

When I try to play/stream videos online, the loading speed is so slow that the video keeps buffering for up to a minute for every few seconds of play time, to the point that it is virtually unwatchable. I'm playing videos on websites that until a few weeks ago would play and stream smoothly even when in HD and sped up. Youtube seems to be the exception, as it plays videos almost as quickly as it used to.

The problem is not the internet provider or speed, as other computers/devices on the same wifi network are still working fine. It also isn't the web browser as the same problem occurs across Chrome, Firefox and Edge. It seems to apply to particular video players to different extents - I've found that if I leave for half and hour or so some videos will then be able to play smoothly for a while, but others will begin buffering again almost immediately. I can still watch videos on VLC without a problem and can mirror screens from other devices onto the computer while they are playing streamed videos.

Some websites are also loading pictures and sometimes text very slowly, though this is inconsistent from site to site and from day to day on the same sites. Sometimes pictures on Reddit will take upwards of 30 seconds to load and gifs may take that long for each frame (videos, particularly on streamable are unwatchable, as described above). On task manager, I've noticed that one of my CPU/memory/disk is usually very high, but not always the same one, and I wasn't watching it closely before the video issues began to detect whether anything has changed or is abnormal.

For background, I started noticing these issues following a Windows 10 update. I have had issues with these updates before: a few months ago an update never finished and after close to 24 hours attempts to restart the computer led to an unending loading screen. I used startup commands to revert to the previous version of Windows 10 and spent the next few months trying to delay the update, though eventually it was forced. Despite my concerns, the update was completed in around an hour, but this problem began immediately afterwards.

    When this issue began

    2-3 weeks ago

    Recurring issue

    Yes

    Date of purchase

    Mid-2014

    Under Warranty

    No

    Cause/Steps to recreate the issue

(Attempt to) play a video online.

What I've tried so far to resolve the issue

I've tried a lot, pretty much every suggestion I could find when Googling similar problems using keywords during my free time over the past three weeks or so: I've run anti-virus scans (Malwarebites), updated my drivers (including graphics), temporarily disabled Windows Defender, uninstalled unnecessary programs and disabled all the others from loading on startup, performed a clean boot, modified the virtual memory value limits, optimised my drives and disabled scheduled optimisations, uninstalled and reinstalled flash, and probably a few more things that I don't necessarily remember or fully understand.

I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the problem and would truly appreciate any help or ideas that you can think of. If I do end up needing to purchase a new computer I'd like to know that I've at least tried everything possible to fix this one as it seems to run well otherwise. Thanks in advance!

Thread_stuck_in_device_driver - Swapped GPU and now it randomly restarts.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 01:55 PM PST

So, I had a ASUS Strix Radeon R9 390, and had constantly blue screens with the error THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER. I did some research online and lived with it for about 6 months, until the point it got almost impossible to use the PC (would get it every 20 mins). I tried everything, clean install of drivers with DDU, clean install of Windows, nothing would fix it. I tried a new PSU as I did read somewhere that could be it, nope, still those blue screens, until today, I got fed up and decided to swap to nvidia. I bought a MSI GTX 1050 TI..

I used the PC for about 2 hours, no problems at all, I thought all my problems were done. But no. In the middle of a overwatch game, PC shuts down and restarts. No error whatsoever, nothing, just a crash, a "bzzzzz" sound on the headphones and PC restarted. I logged in the game again, just a few seconds after it, and again the "bzzzzz" sound but this time the image just stopped (I had to physically restart the computer on the power button).

Any idea what could it be ? I have no more ideas what could it be or how could I test it.

    Here is my setup:

    16GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U CL10

    ASUS STRIX-R9390-DC3-8GD5-Gaming (The first GPU)

MSI GeForce 1050 TI Gaming X (The new GPU)

    Corsair Builder Serie CX600 V3 Non-Modular 80+ Bronze, 600 Watt

Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 700 (The experimental PSU I bought and then returned after I still got these blue screens)

    Intel Core i5-4690K Box, LGA1150

Samsung SSD 850 EVO SATA 6Gb/s 500 GB
