Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:01 AM PST Hi, Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit. This is a work thing that I have been dumped with as I know how to use Excel beyond the sum command which has made me appear to the higher-ups as an IT wizard. The company has a NAS drive, with ~1000 videos on, they are named like the following: 'DDMMYYYY_Var1_Var2_Var3_Var4.mp4' The Var's are things like events, locations etc. What I have been tasked to do is make a front end that filters the files by their Var's, for example videos that took place in London, and then zip and download those files. The NAS is a QNAP NAS, and has access to the QNAP store which includes such things as MYSql. I'm pretty sure I need to make a database with tags that links to a file, but I have no idea about how to go about making a front end that can filter and download files. Any suggestions are appreciated. [link] [comments]
hey guys can u tell me what stops the heat of the cpu and gpu to get to the keyboard? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:02 PM PST Hey guys i spilled water on my lap some days ago. I took it to a tech guy who said that everything is cool. But i get this weird problem where the heat of the cpu or the one of the cpu expands to all the laptop. I know this heat depends on the cpu or the cpu because it gets really hot only when i play.I notice that the left side of the lap is hotter but only slightly than the right one even when not playing. 2 computers, 2 different network speeds Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:36 PM PST I have a desktop plus a laptop and they're both getting two different speeds coming from the same Ethernet cable. Laptop gets around 900 while desktop only gets 400-500. I even purchased a Network PCI-E card but still getting the same speeds. I also reinstalled Windows 10 and updated my bios on my desktop but no change. Tries direct connection from modem and still no change. [link] [comments]
My grandpa is dying, and we can't access his computer Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:43 PM PST I don't know if this is the right sub to post this (please direct to me a better sub if you know of one) but my grandpa is dying, and we can't access his computer, which has important files like his will among other things, but that much is obvious from the title. The reason we can't access his computer is that we don't know what his password is, and while he is awake and comprehensive enough to respond to questions, he can't move more than nodding or shaking his head, and he can't talk. So our initial idea was to go individual letter by letter until he nodded yes and we would eventually get the password. However, he is too impatient and after twenty minutes, we still had barely gotten anywhere. So is there a way for us to easily get him to be able to tell us what his computer password is? I thought about if there was an app on the ios app store that could use the camera to track his eye movements and allow him to type with his eyes, simlilar to how stephen hawking's text to voice works, but I couldn't find anything. So I need your help reddit. We don't know how long he has left and the sooner we could find out the better. [link] [comments]

Please, help me figure out the cause of all this BSoDs Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:10 PM PST Hey everyone thanks for stoping by! Here's my problem... About 3 months ago, I've started having random BSoDs while playing games, browing internet, talking on Discord, etc, it always seems to happen when I try to run something that requires the use of my GPU, more than one time I have seen my screen go black for a few seconds, and then get the "AMD display driver has stopped working, but has been recovered". All of this gets me to believe that my GPU is fauty, I've tried updating Windows, updating my all of my drivers, formating my harddrive, running Memtest to see if Ram was at fault, cleaning my hardware, etc... But nothing works, some days I can go the entire day without a singles bsod, playing some really GPU heavy games, but other days (Like today) I can't even open Youtube without getting a BSoD. I've been saving all of my Minidumps to see if anyone can help me figure this thing out, I'm really thinking on buying a new GPU, but they are really expensive in the country I am in, so this is not something that I can just buy like nothing and see if that solves the problem, I really need to be sure that I am buying the right thing, thank you for your time! Below I will leave my pc specs, and a link to my GDrive with a Rar of my minidumps. Remove unofficial windows and return back to old Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:24 PM PST So I had windows 10 Home Single Language installed on my pc and I ironically searched on how to change the language but another search option appeared which was a product key. I didn't realize this would install an unofficial version of windows (I installed windows 10 pro) so I proceeded. Now I can't returm to the Official state. I do know the previous product key and what I wanted is to get the official version back. If so, it would be great not losing any files. Is it possible. Thanks.... [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 01:01 AM PST Brief backstory: I use Nvidia GeForce Experience to record video (shadowplay?) where I can press a hotkey and it will save the previous 3 minutes of gameplay to an mp4 file on my computer. I like to use this for highlights if something crazy happens in a game. I had a few clips while playing Battlefield 1 tonight that I was going to cut together in Premiere (which I am a novice at using) to make a little highlight reel to send to a friend. In the preview window when it was paused it had a bunch of weird stuff going on with it being distorted with green overlays or something. When the video was playing it was perfectly fine. Well, Premiere crashed twice and I gave up and decided I'd put the video files on my external and put them on my laptop to cut together in iMovie which I am much more experienced with. After seeing the thumbnail with a bunch of green I was confused and opened the files in QuickTime where I was met with this. I figured maybe it was QuickTime being weird so I put them in iMovie and have the same thing. I then opened the files in VLC and they're perfectly normal, just like they looked when I viewed on my PC in VLC. TL;DR mp4 files from screen recording are showing up like this in QuickTime and iMovie, and are making Premiere crash (could potentially be a different reason for it crashing) but look completely fine in VLC on both my PC (Windows 10) and on MacOS [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2018 01:01 AM PST Hi guys and gals. So recently (can't exactly date it but it was after a windows update i think) my PC started booting up weirdly. When i press the power button the fans spin up, the screen show a little white line (like in a command prompt) and after 2-3 seconds just shuts down. After that it just boots normally by itself, i get the windows logo and all. I've tried turning the fast boot off and it hasn't helped, also tried the debugging thing in Windows and it worked fine after that process but happened again on next boot. No other processes have been affected, everything works perfectly. Could it be a driver issue or a hardware issue? My specs are: GPU: GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz CPU: I5-4690 MoBo: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Thank you very much in advance! [link] [comments]
Windows 10 peripheral device failure Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:13 PM PST Today when I turned on my computer it immediately started to install the driver software for my mouse and keyboard, which I thought was odd, because they should already be installed... It will claim to have successfully installed the keyboard driver, even though it's totally unresponsive, and the mouse is an even stranger case, where it continuously makes the "usb connected" and then immediately "usb disconnected" noises over and over again until I unplug the mouse, meanwhile it's flashing away and the "installing driver software notification keeps popping up. When I view the device manager, the mouse will appear on the list for a second and then disappear the same way, in a constant cycle. I've tried finding the driver software online to download it manually with no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the usb drivers hoping that would help, no luck there either. An attempt to try a different keyboard and a different mouse yielded the same results. I'm really at a loss. My computer didn't update recently and everything was fine a couple of days ago. I know the usb ports are working because the computer responds when I plug things in, it just does it in an erratic manner. I haven't downloaded anything or dropped the computer or made any significant changes to it. This is really driving me nuts, so if anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it! (Computer is a dell latitude e6330 with plenty of ram and memory and has had no major issues. it's refurbished, but it's been fine for over a year and all of this just started today.) Need suggestions on laptop cooling. Speccy LinkN/A Description of problemI'm a former PC tech, but have been disabled for a few years. I have the above laptop. I had to replace the CPU fan due to noise. I used whatever heat sink compound I happened to have on hand. The laptop worked at the time, but a few months later my son reported it was shutting down due to overheating. I cleaned off the old heat sink compound. This time I used https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045JCFLY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8. It still is shutting down after 5 minutes. What do you suggest? Is there something else to put between laptop CPUs and heatsinks? Edited because some of my notes disappeared. [link] [comments]

Hard Drive Failing/Reconfiguring Windows. Two problems. Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:38 AM PST Description of problemHi all, I built a gaming PC in late 2015 (ASRock z97 Extreme 6, i7 4790k, 16gb RAM, GTX 960) and put in two Seagate Barricuda ST3000DM001 3TB drives to start off with. I did not know until about a year in that these drives have had a high failure rate. Lately my Steam library (among other programs) seems to take a lot longer to update (I have a tplink USB wireless adapter, but still), frequently starting and stopping on some updates, leading me to think one of the drives is failing, and once Steam reported the suspect drive to have "disk read error". I've checked my drive for errors (Windows 8.1 has found none) and defragmented with Windows Drive Optimizer and Defraggler. The S.M.A.R.T information on the drives come up as "warning". So I'm beginning (Maybe a little early before contacting Seagate) to shop around for a replacement for one of them. The easiest fix from what I can see is a different hard drive (I'm thinking downsizing to one 4TB drive and going portable hard drive for everything else unless anyone else knows a better alternative...I want a fast hard drive but I'm not sure what determines a good speed/reliability ratio; I see first hit comes up with a WD blue 5400RPM 4TB model). I used to trust Seagate because I've had a 500GB external that's lasted for over a decade. But now, not so sure. So there's that. Another issue, a year after I built I installed a PNY CS1311 240GB SSD to become my boot drive. I cloned my hard drive to the SSD with (if I remember correctly) EaseUS Todo Backup Free or Macrium Reflect. For the most part things run, but when I try to go to things like "change the background and colors on start" or "change system volume" when typing in phrases like "personalize" or "volume" in the start menu, I get errors from "G:\users\my name\AppData\Local\Packages\Windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy" (this being what Windows sees the old hard drive as; the rest of the directory I can't read) saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." My system has been running exceptionally despite this for about a year so I'm not sure I want to uproot my system to fix this; but it would be nice to redirect the files to where they need to go to associate properly with the OS. Other relevant infoI tried to clone my hard drive and restore with EaseUS Todo Backup Free or Macrium Reflect. When this issue began417 Days Ago Recurring issueNo Cause/Steps to recreate the issueI tried to clone my hard drive and restore with EaseUS Todo Backup Free or Macrium Reflect. What I've tried so far to resolve the issueUse C:\Windows\System32>sfc \scannow to verify my installation. [link] [comments]

MSI Trident 3 help. Won’t stay on for more than 5 mins, sometimes wont start. What are my options? Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:34 AM PST I bought a MSI Trident 3 off this guy on gumtree for super cheap. I knew something was up but didn't know what. I started it and it ran for a while. Tested the temps under load for the cpu and gpu. It's an i5 7400 and gtx 1060 6gb. CPU was a cool 62c max and gpu around the same. I used kombuster and prime 95. After about 5 minutes it dies. And won't start for a while. It starts up again after about 10 minutes but stays on for 5 minutes and dies again. I know this is a batch problem with this product and the warranty seal is already broken so I don't think I can send it back. What can I do? Is there a way I can fish out a motherboard in the interwebs to replace it myself or is there another way to fix it. If you're wondering why I didn't build my own, I did and it's sli titan setup back home and I'm in a different country studying. I needed the smallest cheapest option for quality of gaming. Thanks for your advice in advance, oh wizards of r/techsupport! [link] [comments]

Video stuttering - erratic CPU heat and usage Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:19 PM PST While I am watching videos, streams (twitch) or running a game there is a constant stutter occurring every 2-4 seconds. This problem started happening after I replaced a faulty fan in my laptop with a new one (being the exact same fan model). When replacing my old fan I did not replace the thermal paste on the CPU, Which is the only thing I can think of that may be causing this problem. Here is a link to my CPU heat and usage while watching a stream on Twitch.

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:48 AM PST I bought a new LG monitor recently. I'd like to use it for several things (my computer, video game consoles etc.) but don't want to constantly have to move the monitor to access the HDMI port. I decided to get an HDMI switch to switch the inputs but it doesn't work on the monitor. It does work on two different TVs. The monitor just comes up with the "no signal" message. So then I tried to connect an HDMI cable to the back of the monitor and run that around front. I plugged that into a coupler so I can plug whichever device I want into that. Same result. Works on TVs, not on the monitor. The monitor is an LG 22MP58VQ and I'm primarily trying to connect a Wii-U and my computer with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 730. Anyone know how to make this work or at least why it won't work? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
