Good Quality USB C Cable Pack

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:23 PM PST

So I will soon have an S9 and as this is my first USB C device I am wanting to get a pack of them to keep around.

I've heard about the problems with dodgy ones, So I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

As a side note I am from the UK.

I found this AUKEY pack that seems to have good reviews.

    RCS App Support

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:17 PM PST

I'm not quite sure how RCS works. Apparently my carrier "supports" it but only using it's app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vodafone.messaging).

I don't quite get how a Carrier can restrict it to one special app. Why isn't RCS available for every app as long as the network is capable?

    Is there perhaps a workaround?

It sucks that I can't just use it with Android messages or whatever it's called atm.

SD card issues on moto G4

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 05:22 PM PST

I am having issues with my phone. only weird thing i remember from the day it started was that i queued a bunch of apps to download and noticed they were paused so i started them ( thought it was to do with me being on data even though it had been disregarding my settings on that front for a while now).

anyways later i noticed it said failed to download and gave error 963. so i tried clearing play store data. tried ejecteing and remounting sd card. tried ejecting sd card restarting phone and remounting. same error. and error 907 when another app on the sd card was trying to update.

finally i migrated the app that needed to update and it updated fine. ejected sd card and downloaded the apps fine.

when mounted i can view my pictures off my sd card (though google photos is duplicating every picture and album) but i cant delete them. they delete and then just show up again. tried clearing data, tried disabling and reenabling photos, no change. i can also access and liaten to my music files with no issue while the card is mounted.

i also cannot download things off chrome anymore. if the card is mounted, it just tries for a second and stops. (i can see the download appear in the notification bar for a split second then it disappears.) it doesnt even give an error. if i eject the sd card, it gives me an error when i try to download and says cant download due to missing sd card. i tried clearing chrome data and disable enable etc. i also cant find the setting for changing download location anywhere in chrome settings like people say to do to fix this online.

phone is the amazon version of the moto g4 on android 7.0 sd card is a sandisk 128gb that is less than 2 years old

High-pitched sound coming out of my Huawei Mate S

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:08 PM PST

Hello, so I just discovered something weird about my phone. I usually put a phonecase over it but I've just realised that when the case is not on, the phone makes this strange high-pitched sound when my camera is on ( the phone also seems to make an even louder sound when the flash is on). Has anyone had this issue? What could I do to solve this? Thanks in advance.

Need to get rid of update nag

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:45 PM PST

My tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A) has downloaded an update. I do not want to install it. I thought I had selected all the options to disable automatic downloading of updates, but I'd apparently missed one.

Every so often my tablet will enter into a "Software Update" screen. It says, "The latest software update is ready to be installed. If you tap INSTALL OVERNIGHT, the update will be installed between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM." There are three options given: Later, Install Overnight and Install Now.

I have been hitting Later for 6-8 months now and fixing this problem has been on my todo list for a long time. Tonight I'm finally frustrated enough to follow through with it. Please help. Thanks.

    Games close on its own

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:20 PM PST

I don't know if this the proper sub where I can ask this but I'll give it a try. Like the title, I want to ask why my apps closing on its own. And this just applies to online games. Other apps that requires internet doesn't have this problem. It all starts when my uncle's ex GF gave me her tablet that she never used since she got it for free after buying her old iPhone 6S plus (I think). Since I need bigger device to play my games because my phone is too small (I use iPhone 5S) I downloaded the games on it. But when I run them, it can only reach at least the lobby of the game. Then when it's time to play the game, it closes. And this always happen every time. I tried looking for solutions on the internet but nothing can fix this. Or is this because of the tablet itself?

It's LG G Pad 7.0 LTE by the way.

What to do with my Huawei M3 (BTV-W09)

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:23 PM PST

I bought this tablet a few months ago as my former NVIDIA shield with all it's Tegra might wouldn't run a few choice games I'd like to be able to take with me, plus after a year the shield which was pretty cheaply made was looking kinda rough.

I thought I was getting a pretty nice upgrade on the cheap. For some time it looked okay, but I finally got around to downloading some new games and realized I'm out of space! No problem, just throw in a SD card, right? Wrong.

It seems that the SD card will only read as external storage. There's no option to put apps on the SD card that I can find. Even installing programs that offer to move apps to the SD card want permissions that this thing doesn't have to give. I'm not familiar enough with Android to know if this is a EMUI (5.0.1) issue or Android issue (7.0) It looks like there should be an option there, but there isn't.

Should I root this thing? I'm not really familiar with the process so I don't want to brick it. Is there something I'm missing? What can I do to actually use my SD card for more than storing goofy GIFs and porn?

How to get Google Assistant to read out message text before sending?

I remember there being an option to enable this, but I haven't been able to find it again. Would make sending messages hands-free much easier.

    Samsung S9 vs iPhone 8

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 12:32 PM PST

Hey! I am on the market for a new phone and provider. I currently have a beat down iPhone 5S with Rogers. I have been debating making the switch for some time, but have always had Apple products, it is what I like and what I am used to but I can't afford to buy phones outright and don't usually keep up with the latest. I'm usually at least 1-2 models behind and I simply don't care for all the new fancy stuff. I want to text, use data for email, social media and a good GPS.

I am looking to switch to Freedom Mobile and the worker got all excited and hyped me up for the Samsung S9 which I see pre-orders start today. I would be paying $37.50 for 8GB of data (25%off for new customers) and free talk and text. Adding on the S9 is $20 a month for 2 years versus the iPhone for $15 ($480 vs $360). After my contract is done I own the phone.

He told me he made the switch from iPhone years ago so while I don't feel he's biased, he told me at that price there's no point looking at other androids. Again, I don't need the newest model but is it financially smarter to go with this phone? I'm truly a dummy Apple user who knows nothing about Android types and what is best.

    Any help is appreciated.

Is there a great email app for multiple email accounts that is on Android & MacOS?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 10:58 AM PST

    Hello,

Im one of the weirdos who uses macOS and Android. I love both for their own reasons. Also I have a lot of emails and am looking for an app where i add in my 10+ emails and have it sync between a macOS app and android app. The only option I've found is Newton Mail. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Facebook Messenger Chat Bubbles on SMS?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:07 AM PST

I'm a new Android convert, coming over from iPhone. Yesterday a friend messaged me on Facebook messenger and the chat bubble popped up over the app I was looking for... i LOVE that feature. Beats the heck out of how iOS does it.

Are there any SMS apps that do that or something similar? Would be extremely handy to have.

Samsung Galaxy S6 unlocked from Verizon, can't connect to internet.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 09:52 PM PST

I needed a new phone so I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 of Amazon that said it was unlocked (from Verizon). I have received the phone, put it my SIM card from my network (Telus) but I cannot connect to the internet. I can text or call but it won't let me connect to the internet. I've already talked to a Telus representative to got me to wipe the phone clean, I went into access points to add the Telus network, nothing has work. All the suggestions I've found online involve pulling out the battery which I have no idea how to do, or updating the phone, which I tried, but it said it's unavailable at this moment.

Is there any possible solution or do I have to return the phone? I apologize in advance if there's some info missing, I am not tech savvy in the slightest.

    Thanks.

Bizarre phone charging problem (Verizon Galaxy S7)

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:51 PM PST

I bought a brand new Galaxy S7 (Verizon model) to replace my 5 year old phone. Phone works great, except for one issue: the battery would not charge beyond 80%. I tried everything I could think of (drain the battery to power failure before recharging, wiping the cache, trying different cables, etc). Nothing worked, and the battery would not charge beyond 80%, and in fact, would drain quite rapidly.

SO, I replaced the battery with a third party battery replacement. The phone now charges to about 85%, and holds the charge at an acceptable level (I can usually go 1 - 1.5 days between charges). I would still like to get a 100% charge though.

I've downloaded the app Ampere to monitor the amount of milliamps the device is receiving. When charging from 0-75%, it receives anywhere from 1000-1250 milliamps. After a 75% charge, it starts receiving 500-750 milliamps. After an 80% charge, I get somewhere around 200-300 milliamps, and gradually drop down to 0 milliamps, usually once I've received a 84-85% charge.

The phone was purchased brand new, still sealed in the box. I have installed a very minimal number of amps, and have NOT rooted the phone.

If anybody has any suggestions, I would be forever grateful!

I have a Samsung Galaxy luna & I've been having problems

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:30 PM PST

I go to turn the screen off and after I hit the button to turn it back on so I can swipe to unlock it it flashes sometimes before I see the lock screen or it takes about 30 sec of trying to get it to come up. It's usually fine when I turn the power completely off and then turn it back on.

How to force (default) YouTube app to play HD over LTE?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 09:17 AM PST

My YouTube app jumps back and forth between defaulting a video to 480p most times and 720p other times. I've got unlimited LTE in a well covered area. Is there anyway i can tell YouTube app to ignore sub HD resolutions!?

    Edit: solution courtesy of u/KoldFuzion!

iYTBP will allow you to set the quality of the videos over the mobile network.

Conference calls fail (timeout) within a few seconds of being merged?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:49 PM PST

    Pixel XL, 8.1.0

Cannot find anything through Google searching, and this is really bugging me. I can receive a call, chat indefinitely, but as soon as calls are merged it says timeout and hangs up. Meanwhile the others still see me as being connected. So far this is just happening with my boss's iPhone, from memory I've not had issues before but I have yet to check if it happens with other phones. Any ideas?

If you need logs I can research how to find/upload them from my phone.

    *Rooting help Galaxy Note 4

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 03:26 PM PST

Hello. I'd like to root my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910V (Android 6.0.1). Now, Ideally, I'd like to flash CyanogenMod to this phone. I am aware of /r/LineageOS/, CyanogenMod's sucessor, but I've never used it and I suspect it is unstable right now. I've heard from This Thread that I may want to use CM12.1. If using CM is not a good option, then I'd like to use SuperUser as my root app of choice, if that is also possible. I've only rooted once before, so I am by no means an expert at this. I'm more than happy to help you to help me, just ask.

So my question, in short is:

Can I safely use CM? if so, what version? If I cant use CM, what should I use to root? Can I use SuperUser?

HTC 10 reduced charge performance after upgrade to Oreo.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:12 PM PST

I installed Oreo last night and I'm having charging peformance issues. When I plugges my phone into my laptop it would simply say "Charging" on the lock screen and would charge at a decent rate. Now that I've upgraded, it says "Charging slowly" when using the same port/cable. It's not just an indication because my phone will actually discharge when I have it plugged in with the screen on.
