Any way to get the new Spotify UI as persistent for created playlists?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:34 PM PST

So this is the UI for playlists such as Today's Top Hits, and I was wondering if it is possible to force that UI across the entire app (if it is even possible, idk if it's an android thing or a Spotify thing)

Custom Rom Privacy vs Security, what is best?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:31 PM PST

At what threat model does something like CopperheadOS take over from another custom rom like LineageOS? It seems that there may be some misinformation on what CopperheadOS does and its target audience, vs what some users may need. Based on discussions on /r/CopperheadOS, the dev points to other roms being less secure, due to the methods used to make the rom work on many devices. If both roms exclude Google Play services/apps, would both have the same level of privacy based on apps installed. If a users threat model contains only avoiding targeted ad tracking, would either rom be sufficient? What security would CopperheadOS provide over LineageOS, if a device is stolen, an unwanted app installed, or targeted for a hacker? What are your thoughts? Thanks all.

    A first time Android user.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:40 PM PST

It's been about four and a half years with my iPhone and it was pretty much brand new, as far as looks go, until about a week ago when an unfortunate drop right on the left corner shattered the screen from top to bottom.

Now that it's time for a new phone I have decided to move away from Apple and want to try out Android for the first time ever. I have a Galaxy S9 pre-ordered and as I wait for it, I wanted to learn as much about the operating system as I can before it arrives at my door. I've been looking around on Youtube and so far I have only found videos that are four to six years old or videos explaining only the new features to Oreo.

While I continue to search I thought that I would ask here because I have received tremendous help whenever I have turned to Reddit. I am very new to this site so I am not sure if that's normal or if I am just getting lucky.

Anyway as for my question: I was wondering if any one knows any reliable and comprehensive guides to Android and all that I can do with it. Everything from basic to advanced. I have a little less than a month so I would like to learn as much as I can before I get to start playing around on my own.

    Thank you all who answer.

Is there any reason to hold on to old Tablets?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:31 PM PST

I have an old Archos 70 internet tablet and it is totally obsolete in its intended original purpose. Has anyone found a way to bring life back to their old tablets, essentially re-purposing for some other task? I was hoping to make it into an external monitor for my dslr, but any apps I have found that could do this don't work with this tablet's software. Any tips or is it just trash?

Extreme Lag When Making a Call

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:01 PM PST

When I attempt to make a call from my contacts, or message app nothing happens. After about a minute the call finally goes though. I'm using a google pixel on 8.1.0, thanks.

EDIT: Here is a similar thread explaining my problem, can't find any solutions in the comments though (shocker): https://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-htc-rezound/305173-long-delay-trying-make-calls.html

    Noob to Android question:

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:52 PM PST

Please delete if this isn't the right place for this question. Thanks.

Anyway, as the title suggests, I'm new to android OS. Due to my job, I've been an Apple guy for years and recently bought a cheap Acer Android tablet just to see if I liked it and I've noticed that a TON of apps say "your device is not compatible with this app" or something similar. Is this a common problem with Android or did I go too cheap? Thanks!

(marshmallow 7.0) where are the menu settings for usb connections?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:32 PM PST

when i connected my lgv20 to my computer, it used to ask me what it should do. one day i accidentally clicked that it should charge only, and not ask me about it again. now i can't transfer files through usb, and i can't find where in the settings to change it back to how it was (asking what to do every time i connected, or even just default to file transfer mode). in fact, i can't find any setting anywhere, regarding file transfers via usb. the only setting i can find with usb, is tethering, and i don't need to do that, i need to transfer files.

"file sharing" under "share and connect" just gives me options for bluetooth and nfc. nothing with usb.

How can I be sure I factory reset my Nexus 5X if I can't turn it on?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:05 PM PST

My Nexus 5x died on me and would load up to the Google splash before shutting down. It was fully powered but getting caught in a loop. I have factory reset it (I think) using the recovery mode and want to make sure everything is clear before tossing it, as there was some sensitive data stored in an app (Recorder). Since I can't turn it on or access the files on my PC, how can I be sure the data is actually cleared?

Facebook messenger no longer pulling in all albums

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:31 PM PST

I used to be able to pull pictures from any album in my phone. About two weeks ago I noticed that It will only let me pull it from camera or screen shots now.

See picture This is using either option A. Or B. In my included picture.

I have completely removed messenger, deleted data, cache and wiped out any remaining folders it left over in my files and still this issue persists.

Sure I can go into my gallery app and share via that way but it is much more inconvenient. I really have no clue what to even try next as it seems no one else is having this issue.

    Thanks

new phone help--moving on from v10

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:30 PM PST

    hi friends!

i currently own an LG V10 and am w/T Mobile.

experienced boot loop on my original V10 (1 year after purchase) and received a refurb which was always a little buggy.

i'm at a point where my battery is constantly dying, phone is laggy and overall i'm looking to upgrade.

i'm looking for expert advice on which phone to switch to. i originally narrowed it down to the Sony XPeria XZ1 from the XZ1, Google Pixel 2 and Oneplus 5t, but now I've distracted myself and am also looking at HTC and Nokia.

i'm really looking for a good battery, a great camera (main reason behind my purchasing the v10) and either good storage, or expandable storage. i ideally would like this phone to last me 2-3yrs.

    right now my list is:

    • Xperia XZ1

    • HTC U11/U11+

    • Nokia 8

any guidance one way or another would be much appreciated! :)

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:18 PM PST

On an s7. I have tried restarting, turning the setting off and then on again. Esentially it is not auto correcting misspelled words, and not using auto punctuation, with all these settings ON. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks for your time =)

    Galaxy on5 problem?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:29 PM PST

galaxy on5 (tracfone) Hey guy my grandpa's phone suddenly stopped working. The sim card say, "Network locked sim card inserted," but the same sim card was working a week ago. He's been using it for almost 6 month and it suddenly stopped working. It wont even let me changed the APN or search for network provider. I factory resetted the phone but no luck. I tried using a different sim card but nothing worked. Any suggestion?

How do you delete a photo off your phone forever?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:09 PM PST

Which files are safe to delete?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:05 AM PST

This is just a quick little question, I want to free up some space on my Moto E4 by clearing up some files in the internal storage. How do I tell the difference between files that need to be there, files that are left over from apps I don't have anymore, or files that help apps that I currently have installed work? I'm not rooted so I'm not worried about deleting any vital system files, but I don't accidentally want to delete something I need. It would be a lot easier if all the files were named what they actually were, like "Textra", "Reddit cache" or "Steam," but I have random files like ".jgads," ".tborey," ".estrongs," "alt_autocycle," etc., and I just don't know what's what?

    Pixel, YouTube keeps minimizing

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:58 PM PST

When I'm watching videos, the player continually (from a minute to five minutes apart) minimizes the video down to the small picture in picture version. It keeps playing as normal. I double tap and it comes back without a hitch. Then a couple minutes later, it does it again. Standard pixel, Verizon, otterbox cover, Android up to date. It did it before the latest update btw. Drives me nuts

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:32 PM PST

So the new Moto line wasn't announced at MWC, and I waiting until then to buy a new phone because the G6 might be better. Does anyone know how long I might have to wait for them to be released, and if I should just get the honor 7x now?
