Are AMD FX users affected by the issues surrounding KB4056892? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:19 PM PST I'm running Windows 10 with an AMD FX-6 6300, and I've been reading all the reports on the issues that the latest Windows update has been giving some AMD users. A lot of sources report that the issue usually affects AMD Athlon users, but I just want to confirm if this issue also affects AMD FX users before I go ahead with anything. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:58 PM PST Hi all. I use my windows mostly for gaming, but after last update KB4056892 (I believe focused on last hot topic - security issues Meltdown and Spectre) I have noticed, that Windows does not ask me with prompt for administrative privileges - for example every time I was starting MSI Afterburner (and pretty much every app downloaded from Internet), small prompt asked for confirmation. Now it just runs. It is more convenient but I wonder why it happened? Did KB4056892 changed something or maybe it was me changing something accidental (I can't recall such action but I am not a Windows master...)? Or maybe I was hacked and I don't even know? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:46 AM PST So I got an SSD and was casually moving stuff like Desktop, Downloads from the boot SSD to an HDD. I thought why not also move the 3D Objects folder. ( C:\Users\username\3D Objects ) So I went into properties and clicked 'move'. Selected D:\ drive as a new location and applied. What happened is that now 3D Objects folder acts as a D: drive and my user folder in C:\Users is gone. Restoring Default gives me this error. Any idea to rever the changes, restore the user folder? Cheers edit: Manually typing the path C:\Users\myusername works and shows me my user folder. edit2: The user folder is there as when making new one with my username in C:\Users it prompts if I want to merge folders with same name. When I created new Username folder it also disseapeared. It's not 'hidden'. edit3: So I got everything back to defaults including 3D Objects folder, but still my user folder is missing and can be only accessed via typing the path manually. EDIT 4 FINALLY SOLVED: For anyone with similar problem. Here I found the solution. Specifically this command - " ATTRIB -S -H C:\Users\Username " Where Username is the name of the Users folder you have problems with. From what I understood somehow System attribute was set on this folder after I moved the 3D Objects folder onto D: drive.. As for the future when moving User Folders just make sure you are moving to already existing folders not purely onto the new drive root (Drive:\Desktop not just Drive:\ etc.) because I think that is what has caused the problem. Posted: 08 Jan 2018 06:53 PM PST Just sat through a 30 minute Windows 10 update. Upon rebooting, my primary display (which is a 32" Samsung HDTV, 720p) is all screwed up. There is a wash of rainbow colors, but no fragmenting. I use a second display, a Samsung 22" Monitor, and all the colors are fine. Using PrntScrn, I copied my desktop image and pasted it into MSPaint, however the color distortion does not take effect when I view this image on my second monitor. What could this mean? I use HDMI connectors for each monitor, going from my GTX1060 into either display. Thanks in advance. Edit 1: Took a pic from the phone, this is what it currently looks like: [link] [comments]
How do I install a version of 1603? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 07:46 PM PST I know there is some issues with later version and FPS in games. I have tried every resolution and I think going back to an earlier windows is my only option. Anyone point me in a direction of where I can find step by step instructions on how to do this? Windows 7, Kaby Lake and security updates? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:27 AM PST I'll admit, I've been slacking with my Windows updates lately, but in light of recent events I was wondering is there even a way to update Kaby Lake based CPUs on Windows 7? If I try to run the update i get the "unsupported hardware" popup which claims my "PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using your system will miss important security updates." Is there a way around this or is the only way too keep Windows with Kaby Lake CPU up to date installing Windows 10 (which I'd prefer not to do if possible)? [link] [comments]
Windows update made colors on monitor dark. Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:08 PM PST I installed a bunch of Windows Updates last night and when I logged on this morning, the colors on my secondary monitor are significantly darker than they were yesterday. I updated my graphics card and it fixed it until I restarted my computer and the colors reverted back to being very dark. It is not settings on the monitor itself. Any idea on how to fix this? Windows Reset: From 4 GB available to 2 GB and now no room for Chrome Posted: 08 Jan 2018 03:36 PM PST I've been through this for weeks now. Thumb-drive, media creation tool... Never enough c:/ space . It will NOT create an ISO image on a thumb drive (Media Creation Tool never provides d:/ storage options, even formatted NTFS). I'm typing on an identical HP 32GB notebook that's still working, thankfully. Should I obtain the ISO from a desktop machine somewhere? Any other options? Sorry to keep asking the same questions but no updates have worked for quite a while. [link] [comments]

High usage of memory after Fall Creators Update, crashes and bad performance. Posted: 08 Jan 2018 05:19 AM PST Hi, and thanks beforehand... So I updated my Asus Laptop about a month ago (Fall Creators Update) and since there, I been having various issues. (TL;DR at the end) When closing Chrome, the next time I would open it, it would say that it had crashed. Also, Photoshop was pretty laggy and slow, so because of this (and Chrome) I thought that maybe it was time to format my PC. After formatting I realized that Chrome was crashing after loading about 15 pages, saying something about not having enough memory, so I thought that maybe Chrome was the problem. I decided to download Firefox and yet, the same problem happened, crashes and everything. Photoshop was also the same. Now, I know my laptop isn't a beast or anything, but before the update, It could easily load 100+ pages on Chrome, while using Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender and Discord, and now, I can barely use Illustrator and Firefox at the same time and even that is kind of laggy. I have 12GB of RAM, and as stated, before the update everything was working great, but I have been checking the performance lately and in Memory I'm constantly using over 50%-60% where Firefox consumes over 2GB by loading less than 10 pages. One of my friends, (who also got the update around the same time I did) is also having the same kind of issues (50%-60% usage) but he has 16 GB of RAM, so it's kind of weirder. I don't have any Killer driver installed, so that doesn't seems to be the problem in this case. I thinking about formatting my PC again with the Media Creator Tool but if possible I would like to avoid that, wouldn't like formatting twice in a month. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and if you need more specs feel free to ask. TL;DR High usages of RAM after Fall Creators Update and a formatting, can't open half as many programs as before without one of them crashing and lagging everything. No Killer drivers installed. Posted: 08 Jan 2018 03:25 PM PST Hi guys, I bought a new laptop today which comes with Windows 10. I went through all the set up and continued on to update (I think?) Windows, and it's been doing this for about 6 hours now and has been stuck on 99% for nearly 3 hours. I'm scared to do anything to it because I don't want to corrupt anything, and it's also running incredibly slow while this update thing is open (I can't open Chrome without it crashing). Can someone advise - should I wait for 24 hours or so before panicking? [link] [comments]
problems with xbox 360 wireless controller win7 Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:32 PM PST so... I think the problem is that I need the newest windows updates, but I got a new CPU and as microsoft said f*ck you customers with win7 and kaby lake cpus (reminder: "we will continue to support windows 7 till 2020"), I may have a little bit of a problem... so I can't get them, but I literally hate the UI of windows 10, can I do anything about it? oh btw: it's this one: https://www.speedlink.com/Gaming-oxid-1/PC-Gaming/Gamepads/STRIKE-NX-GAMEPAD-WIRELESS-FOR-PC-BLACK.html I'm almost a 100% it's not the gamepad's fault, as I tried to connect another one from a friend (which doesn't work either) and also just the day before I installed my new CPU, it worked just fine. Please help <3 (I'm posting this on /r/xbox360, /r/XBOX and /r/Windows... maybe at least someone can help me) [link] [comments]

Windows isn't detecting external hard drive Posted: 08 Jan 2018 02:14 PM PST So I had a MacBook that I sold. I backed up all of my info from the Mac and had the intention of moving it to my PC. The HD is formatted as FAT32 I think. When I plug it into my PC, a few things happen:
I can't do anything to Disk 2 except Convert to Dynamic Disk or Convert to MBR Disk. I have since sold the MacBook and I don't know anybody with one. I have all of the pictures that I've taken since 2005 on this HDD and also all of my music. My plan was to put the files onto a Mac locally, format the external HD to NTFS, and then move the files back to put on my PC. But since I don't know anybody with a Mac, I'm kinda screwed. What are my options here? [link] [comments]

How to completely uninstall windows 10 and keep all my files/apps? Posted: 08 Jan 2018 09:00 AM PST I'm sure this is out there somewhere but I'm getting confused as everything I've found refers to reinstalling or reverting back to windows 8/7 [link] [comments]
Win10 - "Repair my computer" option doesn't open anything. Disc and USB. Posted: 08 Jan 2018 05:00 AM PST So an automatic update completely broke my operating system (came home work work and the pc was stuck in a boot loop). I thought I would just use system restore but when I load the windows 10 USB (media tool) it goes to normal setup for windows (install windows or "repair my computer"). When I click on "repair my computer" it doesn't open troubleshooting options, just stays on the same screen. If I try to install clean copy of windows it just fails and says the boot configuration cannot be updated. I can't repair the boot config without installing clean windows but doing so doesn't even work. Very strange as the drive is GPT and uefi setup. This auto update has broken a lot of shit. Also the main drive can be accessed as a storage drive and tests fine for health in other pc, the OS is just broken. Any ideas anyone? [link] [comments]

How to stop windows from making asterisk sound every time I connect to wifi... Posted: 08 Jan 2018 11:17 AM PST Every time I open my laptop and turn it on, windows makes this asterisk notification sound and it's annoying. I've gone to system settings (notifications and actions) and turned off all wifi notifications and it still makes the sound. I know for certain it only makes the sound when connected to wifi because whenever I purposefully disconnect and reconnect to wifi, it makes the same sound. How do I stop it from making the damn sound? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jan 2018 11:13 AM PST Basically, when I press Caps Lock, there's this little icon that appears on the screen. It's rather distracting to be honest and I wonder if there's a option somewhere that lets me disable pops ups like that... [link] [comments]
