Installed Windows 10 on an SSD, but the PC cant boot from it Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:06 AM PST So I built a new PC, installed windows on it and after downloading some software turned it off for the night. Now when i turn it on it prompts me to install windows AGAIN as if i hadn't already installed it. I have tried almost everything on the boot menu, removing the USB i used to install windows doesnt work, just asks me to install a valid boot device and restart. Any ideas? EDIT: Solved, as a last ditch effort switched the boot mode? to uefi from legacy+uefi. Hopefully this helps others. [link] [comments] |

8320 staying at stock speeds on 970A-UD3P Motherboard. Posted: 31 Dec 2017 12:54 AM PST Running a 8320 on my brother's computer. I have overclocked before, it's a relatively painless process. I set the voltage to it's manual, (1.4) and bumped up the multiplier to 20, bringing it to 4 GHZ, however in task manager and openhardwaremonitor I am seeing the stock 3.5GHZ, the only difference is the BUS speed is falling way below 200, from anywhere between 199 to 160 depending on what I set my multiplier to. The only time I got an overclock to stick was when I bumped it up once to 3.6ghz. Previous owner was able to get it to 4.1ghz on air (didn't try higher), with the same exact cooler that he sent me. What am I missing, and what can I do? [link] [comments] |

Help with identifying a type of cable? Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:48 AM PST I have a set of Liquid Image camera goggles that I use for skiing. To charge the goggles, there is a cable with a standard USB connection on one end and a connection on the other end that I've never seen before: I'm not sure if this is a standard connection or a bespoke one for the camera goggles. Please could someone identify the cable type if it is? Thanks very much. [link] [comments] |
Phone Battery is burned into screen? Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:42 AM PST Hey! I have Android S7(Regular) and I don't know when this started, but now I can see my battery burned into my home-screen, and a old reddit web-page. It's very faint, but still visible. Is there anything I can do? [link] [comments] |
Upon booting up BIOs says "preparing automated repair" then proceeds to a black screen w/ cursor. Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:47 PM PST I was having problems with my PC that had funtioned without issue for most of the day. Namely, games kept crashing (3 different ones) and then the whole thing sort of crapped itself after a restart. Booted it back up, BIOs screen showed the prepairing repair message, and then it moves to a black screen with just a cursor. Keyboard, mouse, and monitor seem to work fine. (Intel i5, GTX 770, older MSI motherboard; complete specs are on the computer that currently won't boot up) Any ideas what might be wrong? A friend suggested that it might be win 10 issue. WIFI Connection Drops at some point, Full bars of connection, but no internet Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:30 AM PST Good morning, I've had this problem recently, where at some point my phone would not receive any data even though I have all 5 bars of connection. This happens with both of my routers (one of them a mini rounter). When I'm scolling down facebook everything would eventually stop loading and an "!" would show up next to the WIFI symbol. Disabling Wifi and enabling it again will fix that. The same thing sometimes happens on my laptop. I do have admin access to the router settings. I also reset the router already, which did nothing really. If you have any further questions to my system/phone/router, go ahead. I appreciate any kind of help, thank you [link] [comments] |
Random process keeps opening for no reason Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:23 AM PST Hello, I'm sorry, but english isn't my first language and this is rather difficult to describe. Something keeps opening on my computer, as if I were to run a program. Wouldn't bother me much, but when I'm playing something, it minimizes the game. I'm on Windows 7. How can I figure out what it is? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:20 AM PST I'm an experienced Linux user. I use my 2010 Dell desktop to dual boot between Windows and Linux. For the most part, I have been booting to Windows. A couple of months ago I decided to see if I could use Linux exclusively. I installed Slackware to the non-Windows partition. Everything seemed fine, although I noticed that the computer locked out on occasion when using firefox, requiring a hard reset. After a few times I became fed up with this, so I removed Slackware and installed Ubuntu. Earlier today, I had another lockup upon using firefox. Additionally, on about 3 occasions, regardless of whether Slackware or Ubuntu was installed, when I powered on the machine, I just had a blank screen. It didn't see a BIOS screen. I had to repower the machine. I'm at a loss as to how to diagnose the problem. Maybe it's a motherboard problem? A memory problem? Hard drive? Or OS bug? I should add that we are subject to occasional power blackouts, which can't be healthy to the machine. I can't say that a blackout coincided with my current problems, though. Any ideas? Update: I ran memtest86. After the first pass, no errors were detected. [link] [comments] |

Just built my new PC, issue with RAM Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:31 PM PST So I just finished assembling my new PC, and upon trying to start it my ez LED error panel lights up for cpu and dram. I removed the RAM sticks and tried them one by one in the same dimm slot. As it turns out, with one stick I am able to boot up and go into BIOS. However when I try running the other stick by itself the pc keeps rebooting and over and over without even running diagnostic on the ez led error panel. My question is simple, is this enough proof that one of the sticks is faulty since it just constantly restarts the system without even fully powering up? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:27 PM PST Basically, I bought a SSD for my OS drive. However, not knowing what I needed to know when I built my first PC all that time ago I bought a smaller SSD which I've had problems with storage wise and it always being full. I want to buy a 250GB SSD to replace it. Would making a Disk Image of my current drive, putting it on the new drive, then putting the new drive in make it work business as usual? Or am I going to have to put this new drive in and reinstall everything? Would that mess stuff up with my other 2TB drive I have everything else on (games, programs, etc.) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:58 AM PST Initially it worked like a charm, but it seems it no longer works despite being updated as of November this year. I don't use chrome or firefox so I can't use adblock plus to block youtube ads. Are there other alternatives or a better list of files? [link] [comments] |

Data Recovery: Partition Mounting Issue Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:37 AM PST Have a laptop with a Windows installation that became non-bootable after a blue screen. Took the opportunity to upgrade said laptop to an SSD, fresh install and so on. Am trying to recover the data from the old hard drive, so popped it in a USB hard drive dock and open up the file explorer. Two partitions, one is the windows install and the other is system reserved. Cannot mount the windows partition. Why I have done so far... 1. Connected to Windows machine but failed to mount partition 2. Connected it to Mac to verify partition is showing, still unable to mount 3. Connected to Linux Mint machine, able to mount but only read only via the terminal, will not mount normally due to error message about Windows not being shut down properly and the NTFS file system being in a vulnerable state. Upon mounting as read only, trying to open the "Users" folder presents an "io error" 4. Attempted to repair the installation using Windows 10 install media, no progress despite running check disk and startup recovery. At this point I don't know what to try next. Any suggestions welcome! Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:27 AM PST I have a Asus Strix z370 i-Gaming (micro ITX) board in a new PC. It has dual m.2 slots, one on the "Top" of the board, another on the "bottom" I just bought 2x WD Blue 250GB M.2 Storage modules I put both in, only one displays in Windows/BIOS The top-side slot is the one recognized. Swapped the M.2 Devices Top is still the only recognized one Removed the top module, now none are showing I've tried: Reseating BIOS/Firmware is up to date Frantic and extensive googling Confirming both M.2 Modules work Settings changes in BIOS to confirm that everything should be good Is there a setting or functionality I'm missing in the BIOS or do I need to RMA this board? Laptop force shutdown, pop noise Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:14 AM PST My laptop froze, probably due to putting in sleep mode while some processes were still running. I shut it down by holding power button and it made a pop noise. Not sure if internal or from the speakers. Laptop works fine, but I wanted to know what's the reason for the pop sound. My pc has been restarting constantly, today I got this error Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:54 AM PST A fatal hardware error has occurred. Component: AMD Northbridge Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: 11 Processor APIC ID: 0 The details view of this entry contains further information. Can someone please tell me, can this be fixed, or is a piece of hardware failing? How do I know what is failing? edit: I'm also getting these errors around the time pc is restarting. related or no? idk. it's gibberish to me. Edit: also in my event viewer, I have a lot of these errors that occur around the same time my PC is restarting. No idea what this means; it's gibberish to me. perhaps someone could tell me if this is related or no. Relatively new Windows 10 laptop random shutdown on battery Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:48 AM PST So my relatively new Gigabyte Aero (high-end) laptop started dying randomly when on battery (it's happened at 80%, 60%, 50%..). It powers off and wont power on past BIOS unless I plug in the AC adapter. Running powercfg -energy in CMD shows that last charge was full designed capacity which is expected since it's a new laptop. I'm stumped. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
