[Help] Outlook 2016 "Need password" prompt won't allow me to enter my password Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:18 AM PST I'm on an enterprise exchange network and my outlook won't login without my entering the password again. It's happening to everyone, but when I click the "Need password" prompt, a white window pops up where I'm certain I should be able to enter my info, but it only stays up for about 2 seconds and then disappears. Until I find a way to re-enter my password, I'm dead in the water. I have closed the app, rebooted, installed office updates. No luck. [link] [comments]
Some questions about Windows 10 Posted: 28 Nov 2017 06:41 PM PST I bought an i7-7700k on Black Friday and didn't realize that Microsoft fucked around with windows 7 and 8 to prevent you from using kaby lake earlier this year(assuming you want to update at all.) So I'm faced with either selling the processor 2nd hand and losing a little money or upgrading.
Assuming the answer to 1 is yes and/or the answer to 2 is no I'm likely to give the Kaby lake workaround a shot. That or I sell because I did not budget for a $100 OS upgrade I don't even want. [link] [comments]
Trouble with rebuilding icon cache for blank icons Posted: 28 Nov 2017 06:38 PM PST Windows 8.1, when searching for the app cache in command prompt using methods from multiple websites, it just keeps returning "file not found". When I try to do it the "simpler" way by going to file explorer and clicking "options", the options button is grey and I cannot click it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:21 PM PST Even the sound mixer doesn't ALWAYS know where sound is coming from. I want to be able to tell with a glance at my taskbar what app is making sound. Similar to how browsers tell me which tab is making sound at a glance with a little icon. Mock-up. < As seen in this mock-up, I'd be able to see at a glance that one of my chrome windows is making sound, as well as Windows Media Player. [link] [comments]
Rewrite/Reinstall Bootloader for 8.1 UEFI?? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 04:49 AM PST Edit: gave up and reinstalled windows. Never doing UEFI again since it overcomplicated dual booting. I accidentally botched my UEFI Windows 8.1 bootloader by installing ubuntu to another drive in legacy (windows disk is GPT and ubuntu disk is mbr) and grub took priority. I can still boot into windows via grub. My boot options used to show:
Now after installing ubuntu it shows:
Booting from P1 returns a screen saying there is no OS. I've tried EasyBCD and EasyRE as well as various tutorials via cmd prompt via the recovery disk.
SO is there a way I can just delete the windows bootloader and rewrite it? Or preferably just rewrite it? I've already tried this to no avail: http://itechs-systems.com/fix_corrupt_UEFI_partition.aspx [link] [comments]
Wrong keyboard map on login screen Posted: 28 Nov 2017 11:47 AM PST Also posted on r/techsupport I have an HP pavilion dv6 running windows 7, whenever I try to type my password the "m" key seems to be enter, "h" backspaces, and "backspace" types a letter. With an external keyboard it behaves the same way. If I press and hold on "num lock" the keyboard acts normally, aside having to hold the num lock. Once I'm on the desktop it also behaves normally (not having to hold anything) Edit (update): the keyboard started behaving the same way regardless of where in the os I was. I unplugged it and plugged in an external keyboard and all worked fine. Now it seems as though the control key is stuck, is it better to replace the keyboard or may there be a way to fix this one? I checked sticky keys on it [link] [comments]
Got a new laptop anything I should do to speed up windows or any other tips Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:45 PM PST Any tips on what I should do, should I make some sort of snapshot to revert back to fresh install but not have to start over. Get rid of all generic programs that aren't services related? What do you do? Edit: It has an SSD. [link] [comments]
Can't boot Windows 8, nothing works... Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:53 PM PST Today I turned on my PC and got a blue screen while the OS was loading. Now when I turn it on it goes: preparing automatic repair, diagnosing your PC, and then I get this message: automatic repair couldn't repair your PC press advanced options to repair your PC or shut down to turn off your PC. I tried system restore, and apparently I lost all restore points. I tried sfc /scannow and I get the message "windows resource protection could not start the repair service." After trying bootrec/rebuildbcd I find that there are "Total identified Windows installations: 0" I can't boot in safe mode. The hard drives aren't dead though, because I could boot up with a Linux live key and access the data inside them. Is there anything I can do beside a refresh? [link] [comments]
Mixer streaming “something went wrong” error. Is there any known fixes? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:39 PM PST I have since updated to the fall creators update and I can not live stream games using Mixer? Sometimes it starts but most of the time after pressing broadcast it just fails and I get the "something went wrong, try broadcasting again later" message. Thanks guys. [link] [comments]
Some F keys have the wrong functions? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 03:02 AM PST I recently bought a new Lenovo Y520 that runs Windows 10. I'm used to just clicking on F2 and F3 to change the volume. On this new laptop I have to hold Fn every time I try to do that. For instance F3 without holding Fn will trigger the website search (the usual Ctrl + F). Some F keys do function, the F5 key reloads the webpage ragardless of whether I hold Fn. I'd like to lock Fn for the F keys if possible. Unfortunately my extensive googling hasn't helped. Remove old remnants of a windows 7 install from disk? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:36 AM PST EDIT: I just unhid system files on those drive partitions and deleted everything I could except system volume information. Seemed to do the trick. I have windows 8 on my ssd and one of my old HDDs used to have windows installed on it. When I was installing linux on that drive, it thought windows 7 was still on there. How do I ensure that all remnants of an old OS are removed from the drive? I don't have another drive to transfer it's contents in order to format it so that's out of the question for now. Can I enable hidden system files and delete stuff from it? What (if any) hidden system files on that storage drive, need to be left intact? [link] [comments]
I purchased a 3 Windows 10 Keys. Can I link them to my Microsoft account directly? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:05 PM PST I've heard that the keys now can be managed online so the user doesn't need the keys later. Is this true? How would I do this? Is there a way to run the keys to check that they're legit? [link] [comments]
[Request] Windows 7 Pro key for lab use? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:37 AM PST Would any kind hearted soul here be able to donate one Windows 7 64bit Professional key for a lab PC use that runs old software in old windows? A few months ago someone here was giving away free key from scrap PC, unfortunately I missed out and need a key to keep the PC running. [link] [comments] |
