Is there a theme or setting to increase the "hit box" size for window controls? Posted: 01 Dec 2021 03:18 AM PST I'm currently using Linux Mint and enjoying it, my only slight annoyance is that compared to Windows hitting close, minimize and maximize as well as re-sizing a window are difficult to hit. Is there a setting or theme somewhere to help with this? I really likes Windows' buttons are they're the full size of the title bar. [link] [comments] |
Struggeling with the permissions " access denied" Posted: 30 Nov 2021 11:57 PM PST hi all, Context: I set up a radarr instance, which monitors new episode releases and give me the possibility to watch them. Once the files for that episode have been gathered, it succesfully moves them from a temporary location to the definitive location, as well as making a folder where all the files (neatly) shall be placed. BUt, it gives me access denied. Here you see the two folders underneath each other. Radarr user is in the plex group, and both folders have 755 permissions. Still, it can't move the files from the top folder to the bottom. What steps can I troubleshoot? I find the permissions a bit scary, last time I ruined everything..literally :p. But that was when I was a bigger noob then I'm now. Any tips are welcome, Cheers Victor [link] [comments] |
Dual Booting from 2 different SSDs and Sharing 1 common hard drive Posted: 01 Dec 2021 02:14 AM PST I recently bought a 256gb ssd with the intention of dual booting Windows and Manjaro. Now here's the thing:- I have my windows 10 installed on a 256gb nvme ssd and I have a 2TB hdd which stores all my files and games. And I want to install Manjaro on the other 256gb sata ssd and I want that both Windows and Manjaro to be able to see and use the 2TB hdd. How do I go about doing that? Edit: UEFI system and Windows is in GPT filesystem [link] [comments] |
Can someone give me a guide about folder permissions, and just permissions in general? Posted: 01 Dec 2021 01:05 AM PST I have been hitting a wall with plex being unable to read my mounted external drive. After playing around with it a whole day and only barely understanding half of what I'm doing and still getting no closer to my original goal, I've decided to buckle down and learn Linux. Can someone give me a guide about permission? I mean, every part about it. I don't understand why chmod 755 command will give me "operation not permitted" but o+w and g+r are fine. I don't understand why devices ownership is set to root root and chown doesn't work. Is there a "run as admin" command? Is that sudo? Cause even that doesn't seem to work. Thank you. Posted: 01 Dec 2021 02:14 AM PST At work we have templates for specific Distros and their Service Packages. Until now I thought Templates are just ISOs with pre-defined settings and configs. It turns out they are not. Unfortunately, the way my coworker described templates to me didn't make any sense...so here I am, asking you. Please ELI5. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Because i have 2 27' monitors for my pc and one tv which i want a duplicate of one of my 27' monitors. Posted: 01 Dec 2021 12:28 AM PST So, i have an HP Victus, with AMD + NVIDIA Graphics and it's just not using the NVIDIA card. Running a program with "prime-run" does work, but i don't know how would i go about doing that for Proton and Wine programs, and i don't think i have the patience to start EVERYTHING using the konsole. Is there something i can do to either make it switch automatically, or set it up so i flip the switch myself when needed? Is there a different tool for this? [link] [comments] |

Plymouth not working unless I press "esc"? Posted: 01 Dec 2021 05:56 AM PST I've recently installed Plymouth but it doesn't show up on my password encryption field unless I press "esc", after that, the Plymouth field is loaded and I can see the password field. I've also noted that I can't change my theme, I tried to do Note: If I don't press esc I can still enter my encryption password but with the default password field of Arch. Distro: Arch Linux with Gnome 41. [link] [comments] |

Why is my system so slow? Pop OS 21.04 Posted: 01 Dec 2021 05:29 AM PST Hello all. A little over a year ago, I decided to breathe new life into an old Dell Inspiron Laptop that I was no longer using with Linux PopOS. This laptop is really old, it used to run Windows8, has a mechanical hard drive, and has 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM. As far as the processor goes, I'm not entirely sure which specific CPU it has, but I do know that it is an Intel i5 processor. I'm looking to use this laptop more in order to learn how to better use Linux, however this system is very slow. For example, If I try to open up Firefox, then it'll take several seconds, enough to be a noticeable span of time. And If I try to load up a page, say a youtube video for instance, then it'll take way too much time as well. I really don't know how to asses or even begin dealing with this problem given that I'm not too versed when it comes to troubleshooting Linux. Can anybody give their opinion as to what might be happening and what I should do about this issue? Any articles or online resources would be very much appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Spacing between characters for all the fonts but the default one is wrong in alacritty. Posted: 01 Dec 2021 05:17 AM PST I tested with ubuntu mono, ttf-hack, adobe-source-code-pro and a bunch of others and spacing between characters is wrong for all in alacritty. Sometimes, it's too much between 2 letters and sometimes it's too little that the characters merge. Here, have a look at it yourself. I'm configuring alacritty using [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2021 08:19 PM PST Hello, I'm reading the LFS (Linux From Scratch) e-book and I just can't understand what is the difference between the FHS (File Hierarchy Standard) and LSB (Linux Standard Base)? I'm asking this because they look very similar to me and I wonder why two different set of standards are necessary. Thanks! Edit: typo [link] [comments] |

Any macOS INSPIRED icon themes? Posted: 30 Nov 2021 05:26 PM PST Hello! I'm not so sure that this is the right place to post this question, but I don't know where else to put it. I'm looking for an icon theme that's kind of macOS inspired. And by this, I don't mean that it copies the macOS icons exactly. I'm looking for something that looks modern. Something that isn't recognizably Apple but follows the same design philosophy. Something that wouldn't look out of place in a mac book, but isn't a replica. I'm using POP!_OS 21,04 with the Orchis theme, I'm looking for something that would complement that theme. I like the Tela icon pack, it's close to what iIm looking for, but it's not quite it. I don't know if that made any sense whatsoever, but I'd appreciate any recommendations. [link] [comments] |
How do I encrypt, and at the same time, split a folder in a series of 12Gb files? Posted: 30 Nov 2021 06:47 PM PST Greetings everyone, I've recently created about 72 google accounts to upload my data there. So, lately, I've been wondering, since I have about 900 GB of used storage, and I want to make a permanent backup of all my files to the cloud, is there any way to split the 900GB into 75 files already encrypted files? (I know it is going to take some time, but that is not an obstacle for me) edit: I use Ubuntu [link] [comments] |
