This was taken in low light, just edited the white balance a little bit but that's all. Can't believe this came off a $200 device.

I don't know if you know it yet, but a guy from Xiaomi said that Miui 12 for EU versions is delayed due to some issue, so we have to wait a few more days

Redmi Note 8 Pro after one or two weeks, great device, but 4 complaints

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:30 PM PDT

I have a new Redmi Note 8 Pro (6gig ram, 128gig storage), and the phone is really good. I had before a Redmi Note 7, and you can feel that the RN8 Pro is faster, smoother, better in every task, but I have 4 complaints, not dealbreakers, but annoying at least while I am just getting used to it:

    1. The biggest complain: Weight. Like i said, I had before a RN7 and it was 186g, the RN8 Pro is 200g, and you can feel those aditional 14g. I have big hands, but sometimes It gets to the point that I don't want to use it with one hand at least I have a table, or I can put it on my chest/belly to get some help with the weight.

This is not all the time, but I am really glad that I did not buy the Poco F2 Pro, cause it is 219g... This issue got me worried cause all brands tend to make their good phones heavier and bigger, and now on weight is going to be a really important factor when I get a new phone. I really hope that my next phone could be (a Xiaomi's one if possible) like 170g or less while having good specs, but I am worried that I am going to have a hard time finding it.

    1. Headphone jack on the bottom: It should be on the top. On the bottom is unconfortable in a lot of situation, the should make this a priority for they new designs. In this spec the RN7 is better.

    2. No Xiaomi calls app: This is the first Xiaomi phone (with Miui) that Inhave seen that does not have the Xiaomi calls app, It has the google one. I think the Xiaomi calls app has some very good aditional features, some I miss it. In this spec the RN7 is better.

    3. Fingetprint reader too close to the cameras: This is a minor issue cause I know I will get used to it and the face unlock on this phone works great (with good light at least), but the fingerprint should be separated of the cameras for a more comfortable experience. In this spec the RN7 is better.

Fix for Netflix issue in Chinese ROM phones.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 08:14 PM PDT

    https://youtu.be/fJO3qrFlUDw

Watch this video for the solution of Netflix issue on the Chinese ROM phones.

So there's another way around for the people who won't get the option of "get apps" is to download a Chinese app store named 应用宝。here's the link:

    https://a.app.qq.com/o/simple.jsp?pkgname=com.tencent.android.qqdownloader&g_f=1000047

Follow everything that she's said and if you don't get the option of get apps then don't worry, download the Netflix apk from the description of her YouTube video and install that..

Open up the Chinese app store which I've just gave you and look for Netflix app and hit update, voila!

    What does this mode do?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 07:37 PM PDT

    Pic

I have the full screen mode enabled, so that bottom buttons don't show up; but why does every app have this option? Is it related to the other thing or is it something completely different?

K20 Pro (China ROM) and MIUI 12

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 07:24 PM PDT

Anyone using this phone as well and has maybe received the update? I'm currently on 11.0.8.0 and have not received any OTA update but I have seen articles having the 12.0.2.0 update but is branded Beta China Stable. Haven't rooted the phone and have received updates via OTA only.

Is it safe to download and install the 12.0.2.0 update? Or is the OTA update still not out and I should just wait for further news?

PS3 controller's support on Xiaomi devices?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 11:49 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I've been doing extensive research on this topic. It seems there is no support for consol controllers. I have been trying to connect a PS3 controller to my Redmi Note 7 Pro with no success (without rooting my device). I tried using an OTG but it doesn't work.

Any idea on how to solve this issue or is there no hope? If you have any leads or info, please feel free to share.

    Cheers

MIUI 12 Short Review and Overall Impressions

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 06:19 AM PDT

Phone: Mi 10 Youth Edition (Lite Zoom in other markets)

ROM: Chinese Rom (MIUI 12.0.3.0 QJVCNXM)

    UK-based OTA update

Overall impressions are quite positive. The update arrived OTA via the normal Xiaomi updater. It downloaded and installed in less than 15 mins total time. Phone rebooted. Gave a quick tutorial. Flipped through it.

Left old MIUI 11 Theme installed. I download and installed / updated both Super Wallpapers. Worked flawlessly. No complaints. Did a few slight adjustments (like disabling the search bar). Otherwise, all settings (App Vault and App Drawer kept identical over the update.)

The animations are great when apps open/closer. No stutter/stammer. Very fluid and seamless, very nice new design. Everything looks very nice compared to MIUI 11. Much more sleek and clean. More iOS like in the style.

The floating windows are great and useful. The new way of showing notifications is very pleasing to the eye.

Battery life is similar to MIUI 11. On this first two-day run ... I got 8h+ screen on time and 20h+ of standby time and it's around 10% battery left (just threw it on the charger), so it remains a two-day phone even on MIUI 12.

The Magic Clone carried over from MIUI 11 and the Front/Rear simultaneous filming is new with MIUI 12 with filming a picture-in-picture is stellar (one of the reasons I bought the phone so it's great to finally have it) and I'll have a lot of fun with it.

No issues with the UK 5G networks on MIUI 11 or 12.

On the whole, the process was painless and this is the third update from Xiaomi since the phone arrived in my hands less than 2 months ago (11.0.7.0 was on the phone, 11.0.9.0 and 11.0.10.0 and 12.0.3.0 all came OTA and were painless to update.) So, props to Xiaomi for keeping the hardware running very, very well indeed.

If you have any question about my experiences, just ask, and hope that everyone has a nice weekend. Here it's a scorcher and there are a million people at the beach!

Can I do contactless payments on redmi note 8?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 03:26 PM PDT

Hey, I just got this new phone today (redmi note 8 - NOT the pro version).

I just have this one question, can I set up contactless payments? I've got my Google account all set up, but it says I can't do contactless payments on this device. I've been trying to research it all day and I'm super confused, I don't think the phone has NFC, but there are other payment methods (FIDO and IFAA - this means absolutely nothing to me, I'm completely baffled at this point!)

It seems whatever I find online is contradicting whatever I read before it, and most of the things are about the pro version.

If anyone could give me a straight answer then that would be hugely appreciated - I'm not completely incapable of using technology but I've really hit a wall trying to figure this out!

Youtube Vanced problems on Miui 12

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 04:21 AM PDT

So, after I installed MiUi 12 around 2 days ago on my K20 Pro, everytime I opened Youtube Vanced, I was getting signed out of my google account. Is anyone else having this issue? Does it have anything to do with permissions and new privacy settings?

So I just joined the world of Xiaomi

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:49 AM PDT

So I just joined the world of Xiaomi buying the 360 1080p camera, and very pleased with it.

What else should do you recommend looking into from Xiaomi? Preferably smart home sensors.

Do i need their gateway to make use of all the automation?

    Colour accuracy

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I've got a redmi note 8t and I would like to know what exactly the colour options mean in settings regarding colour accuracy. I like calibrating my screens so it would be nice if somebody explained to me how to get the most accurate and realistic colour on this phone. Thanks in advance.

My Mi 9T isn't fast charging.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:10 PM PDT

I go to plug it today and I notice that there's only 1 lightning bolt. So I plug it in again and it doesn't say "quick charge". It's the same out-of-box charger that I've been using that I even used last night. I haven't had a recent update since MiUI 11 so I'm lost. I would try a different charger but weirdly nobody in my house uses a phone with fast charging. What could be the issue?

Is it possible to dynamically customize the AoD screen ?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 03:55 PM PDT

Is there a way to show the current Bitcoin price on the always on screen? Doesn't needs to be in real-time , an interval of 15-30 minutes would be great.

My Mi 9 only shows the last 24 hours on the battery stats (MIUI 12)

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:16 AM PDT

Hi, i'm not sure if i'm missing something or if it's standard behaviour but my mi 9 only shows the last 24 hours on the battery stats which pretty much doesn't let me see my SOT since I charged the phone. Is there a way to change this or is this normal for miui 12?

It renders the battery stats pretty much useless to me.

Getting back the old lock screen wallpaper?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:45 PM PDT

So I have the Mi 9T Pro / Redmi K20 Pro, and I just got he MIUI 12 update. When I installed it, my wallpapers got reset. This is not a problem because I used the stock one for the lock screen (the red animated one) and a pitch black image for my home screen. But when I went to change the home screen it also changed my lock screen. I tried to change it back but I just can't find the way to do it. I went into the Themes -> Wallpapers -> Live Wallpapers but it's nowhere to be found. If ANYONE has an idea please leave it here so I can get the wallpaper back, I really don't want to reset my phone just for a lock screen wallpaper.

Miui 11 hide apps in category app picker when already in another category

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:40 PM PDT

Hello, I am running miui 11 and have the app drawer enabled with categories. I have a ton of apps, so I have a Game, social, shipping and tool catagories. When I put an app in "games", is it possible to then make it not show up on the app picker for other categories?
