It's the RTX worth the 200$ more? I'am ok with 1080p 60 fps high gaming. Does the GP model have heating problems compare to the GE? I know the GP models re inferior to the GE. Both laptops have i7-8750H , 16gb ram, SSD 256GB NVMe PCIe + HDD 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm. Is it worth to go for the RTX 2060? Or it's just matter for 4k gameplay?

Could someone help me decide between Asus ROG Strix Scar II & Lenovo Legion Y740. Thanks!

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:39 PM PDT

    These are the two configurations..

    Y740 - https://imgur.com/a/OU3sGrI

    Asus - https://www.newegg.com/global/ae-en/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7AB8UR2688&ignorebbr=1

    • Both are pretty identical but key difference I see is the Y740 RTX 2070 is Max Q and the Asus is regular
    • My main use will be working on unreal engine 4, creating VR & AR content along with video processing, content creation etc....
    • Looking for a powerhouse now that'll last me the next few years.
    • Aesthetically I like the Y740 more but if Asus will give me better performance keeping driver updates etc in mind, I will go for that one
    • Anything else I should look out for? Thanks

Good keyboard, long term value , lightweight deep learning

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 02:00 AM PDT

Ok people thanks in advance. What I need is a laptop for coding/lightweight dnn training/lightweight gaming. I need something that is reasonably good for travelling. And the most important thing: my MBpro lasted 7 years. I want my next laptop to go next to that. So I am willing to spend.

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Up to 2700$, Switzerland/eu

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. No 2-in-1. At least 6h battery life on lightweight usage (browse, YouTube, etc..) . Would like to set at or below 500$/year.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Very. I travel a lot. This is my main machine. Would Ike to stay below 4.4lbs/2kg.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Linux, windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. TF with GPU models. Lightweight gaming

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Witcher 3/Cs:go. I'm ok with 30fps on medium/high detail.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? 1) good keyboard with non mushy keys. Forget the dell XPS, for example. HP Spectre was not bad. Lenovo Yoga was meh. 2) good build quality. I really need something to live for some time.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So far the candidates I have in mind are: MSI GS65 w/rtx2060 at 2100$, but couldn't try keyboard. Aero 15x seen to suck. Got a gag reflex while typing on the XPS. X1 extreme from Lenovo seems a good contendant w/1050ti since I get a 20% discount

    Thanks again!

[Canada] Looking for a good battery, lightweight, durable laptop for a writer

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 04:25 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase:

    Canada. $900.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

2 in 1 is not important. Good battery life is very important.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

As a writer, I'll be carrying this everywhere. Thinness can vary, but I'd like it to be lightweight (max 4lbs unless that's way too light/heavy)

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

    Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    13 - 15" although 14/15 is the best.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No gaming whatsoever. Light programming (I'm learning Python and Java). Mainly word-processing and other office applications.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Decent, durable, tactile keyboard would be nice. No touch screen. Able to withstand heavy use. I'd like a robust plastic or metal frame. I have an external mouse so the trackpad can be average.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I'd really like this to have upgradeable storage and memory slots for an SSD or additional RAM as needed. This will be a work computer but I'll watch movies occasionally.

My priorities are good battery life, lightweight, decent build quality, and a decent keyboard. Additional nice-to-haves would include an anti-glare screen, usb-c and usb 3.0, a fingerprint reader, and Bluetooth.

Looking for a sub 600dollar laptop for school and medium graphics gaming (Asus e15?)

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 03:53 PM PDT

Hi guys. I am looking to buy my first computer/laptop in 5 years and am out of date in many ways. I decided to get my COMPTIA A+ cert and need a laptop for schoolwork. I would love to be able to play games on it too. My budget is $600ish. Specifically, I need something with solid specs to run games like Classic WoW while having the storage and battery life for some schooling.

This is the laptop i currently have in mind. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $600USD, USA

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Probably specifications, as I can charge easily. Open to suggestions

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. preferred 15inches or so

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I want to get into the cyber security field, doing a few certifications along the way. I am also into gaming for sure. Specifically, Classic WoW when released

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Classic WoW, preferably at 60fps on medium graphics if possible

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Needs to be known as a reliable model. Ability to ability schoolwork is priority #1, gaming comes second

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am largely open to suggestions. Thanks.

    Razer Blade 15 RTX 2080 Max-Q vs. Alienware m15 RTX 2080 Max-Q

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 03:18 PM PDT

I'm deciding between the two. I used the Razer Blade 15 for a while before returning it due to coil whine and the fact that its fans randomly started spinning faster and it started getting hotter quite randomly during which its battery finished in ~2ish hours. Apart from that, it would run with very good thermals and was lasting me 7-8 hours per charge while it was running normally(when it did not have the issues mentioned above). I believe something happened with the drivers. Coil whine was always an issue though, especially when booting up.

So I decided to wait for a refresh of the laptop and while waiting, the newer Alienware m15 also started shipping and as far I am concerned it has better thermals and an even bigger battery if you decide to go for the 90Whr option. Can I get a detailed expert opinion on performance, battery and cooling between the 2? The Razer Blade 15 also has much better aesthetics though, which I'd like to have. Is it possible that Razer would have fixed the coil whine issue and their drivers in a refresh or 2nd batch of laptops?

    Laptop suggestions, gaming/office, budget 1000-1500.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:03 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: USA - 1000-1500. Looking for the best bang for your buck/longevity.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best value. Battery life doesn't matter. I can be plugged in almost all the time. Form factor doesn't really matter either. Just want it to work really well.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? All things being equal, I guess lighter is better. But I really don't care about this.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 inch

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Primarily office use and gaming. Gotta be able to run VR. I'd like to somewhat future proof in gaming. I might do some light photoshop or video editing, but that'd be less than 1% of use.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? VR - Beat Saber. Aside from that, just any new games that come out to run decently. 60ish FPS should be fine for most games.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touch screen would be nice. The touchpad I'd like to have physical buttons, no all one giant touchpad without the clicky buttons for right/left clicking. I can't stand that!

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I was looking at the Lenovo Y740, but the deal on it disappeared. Almost pulled the trigger. I'd heard it has great cooling, and I think that's gonna be pretty important. I really don't wanna get another laptop that just heats up like a mofo and performs like shit. Good cooling is really important, as I use this, literally on my lap, a fair amount.

I would like a few suggestions for a laptop I can use for studying etc. Max £500 Im used to 1440p144hz on my PC and would like something as close as possible*

*I realise 1440p etc is a bit out of the question at this price

Not going to be used for gaming only youtube, one note, Google in general.

Oh I'll do this form thing kinda

    UK

Battery life is not super important I guess, decent is good ofc. If 2 in 1 is tablet / laptop then it's not important

Weight doesn't really matter, the thinner the better

    Windows preferred. Not definite

    No specific screen size

Small bezel, decent keyboard, reliable build quality are more important than touch screen etc

    Laptop for college?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 09:18 PM PDT

Hi I am going to college and was wondering if I already have the right laptop or should I buy another one. I have a Lenovo ideapad flex 4 with an intel core i5. I will be going into a STEM major and I don't know if the laptop I have will be sufficient to not. I don't play games on my laptop but I do watch a lot of youtube and surf the web constantly. Do you guys have any suggestions?

    • Total budget and country of purchase: 500 to 800, USA

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? I do not really care if it is a 2 in 1, but I would like it to have a battery that will last a long time.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? I plan to carry it around a lot so I would prefer it to be light, but I also like to have ports on it (ie USB ports, hdmi for my monitor, and a full size so card slot)

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14 inch

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I take photos so I use Lightroom and PS, don't play games, don't know what programs I will have to run in college.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Don't play games but lots of YouTube and web surfing

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I enjoy a good keyboard with backlighting, I'll be running around with it so a device that can take abuse will be good. I use a wireless mouse.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I like black laptops

Thank you so much for your help.

-I currently have the Alienware 15R3 with a i7 7820hk & GTX 1070 but it just to big to carry around with me. I'm looking for a thin/light gaming laptop that is smaller then the Alienware 15, but performs equal/better then my current GTX 1070. I'm debating between the Razer Blade Advanced, Asus Zephyrus, & Alienware M15 (all three would have the RTX 2080 config) but I'm also open to other suggestion if it meet my needs/requirement.

Stuck between gaming laptop and a Ultra Book with decent GPU

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 10:05 AM PDT

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:** $1500 United States

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Don't Need a 2-n-1. I want good battery life when not gaming .

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I don't want super thick here. Think older Macbook Pros or a Razer Blade or comparable. Will travel with it a little bit. Really want a macbook type look and build quality. I guess sub 5lbs or 5.5lbs here is decent?

**Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13-15.6"

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** No editing. Mostly gaming and streaming web browsing, a little work here and there

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Pretty high quality 60+ FPS on Cities Skylines, Civilzation, as well as other steam type games. Most games I can play on a console I have a ps4 for that, BUT in the future I might want a gaming desktop PC. I don't need it to play like GTA or Witcher type game so a good solid medium graphic intense games here.

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Would like a decent key board or touch pad. again think MacBook. Good Bright screen 144hz

**Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** Really Battery (When not gaming) good screen for watching movies, and solid construction are king. Ideally would like to take this laptop and stream movies when traveling. Would like it to last at least 5 hours watching a couple of movies on a plane. Then plug in to an outlet when I wanted to game.

Looked at Asus Zephyrus, MSI Stealth and Prestige and Dell g7 didn't know if there was maybe something else. IMO these batteries won't last as long as I want? I dunno, if I can get away from a GTX series GPU and still get a good enough gaming experience...? Or something like a XPS or Zen Book be better?

What is the best gaming laptop for $1000 or less??

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:00 PM PDT

So some background: I currently have an Ibuypower Style Note gaming laptop. It has an intel core i7, a Nividia graphics card, I can find other specs if necessary. Just trying to illustrate what I'm comfortable using. The issues with this laptop are: it's now 3 years old, won't turn on unless it is unplugged, has become incredibly slow, the keyboard doesn't work, crashes every once in awhile, and has already had its hard drive replace once. So it has some general wear and tear along with some more serious issues that I'm too novice to fix.

Currently, when I turn this laptop on, it displays "preparing auto repair," then goes to a black screen with a cursor. For whatever reason, I cannot load the BIOS menu. My current plan is to make a recovery USB tomorrow and hope I can get it functional again; this has happened a few times before.

So that brings me to my question: what would be a good replacement gaming laptop that I could get for roughly $1000? Suggestions can be a little over $1000 but I'm a college student on a budget so no $2000+ Alienware for me. If you think it would be cheaper and worth it to have this laptop professionally fixed, please let me know.

So one last thing before I hit post: I mostly use my current laptop for watching YouTube videos, writing essays, and playing games like Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Minecraft, etc. Any gaming laptop that can run those games is perfectly fine, doesn't have to be super fancy.

    Lenovo Y530 vs New Dell G5 15

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:53 PM PDT

Can't decide between the two laptops. My current one is an old Compaq Presario CQ62 and it's not holding up well. For both laptops I'm looking at an i5 or i7, 16gb of ram, with a GTX 1050ti. Both are around the same price, but I've heard both screens aren't great and the thermals for the Dell G series aren't great, but I haven't heard if it's from the "old" or new ones.

    1500$ Gaming laptop/ university use

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 10:38 AM PDT

-1400$-1600$ I am living in Qatar but might purchase online if there's a good offer-

-As I'm looking for a gaming laptop I would say specs are more important but something like battery life should be good too for university use-

-I don't want a heavy and a thick laptop as I'll be using it in university but I don't need it to be extremely light or thin, I'd say 1inch thick and 5lbs would be good enough-

    -Windows-

    15.6"

Games I would like to play include (but are not limited to): *Rainbow Six Siege * Battlefield V * GTA V * Assasin creed games and sekiro type single players

I would like to play my games at 60+ fps and the more high graphics games at 40+

I want to buy a gaming laptop and gtx 1060 is a must since the difference is 1050ti and 1060 is very high. I am mainly gonna be using this to game but after 1 year I'm going to university and want something which would be good for that. i7 is preferable.I'm into games like r6s and also games like battlefield V (single player)
