OP: Hi guys! I have a GTX960 that I'm looking to upgrade, I have a budget of $200/£200. I'm not sure what to get, can you help? I play mine craft at 1080p/60hz.

First response: at that budget you could get a RX580 or possibly a 590 if you can find a deal. Or if you're willing to spend a little more look at a 1660.

Next: I wouldn't get an AMD card they are junk, if you can add some more cash then a 2060 is a better deal.

Next: don't listen to that guy he's full of shit, what you want is a Vega 56 with 8gb VRAM for all those mods. I'd also look at getting a new monitor as 1080p just doesn't cut it these days. 1440p is where it's at!

Next: bah, if you want to do 1440p you absolutely need a 2070ti. Alongside that new monitor you're getting you might also want to upgrade your PSU as those puny 600W ones are junk.

Next: these guys know nothing. You absolutely need a 288hz display and a card that can handle it. Get a 2080ti MegaDong and this 56 inch 8k monitor (insert amazon link).

Next: that's crap. Triple 21:9 8k 500hz monitor setup is the best. You'll need four 2080ti with 16gb of VRAM each, a new motherboard, and a 5 gigawatt PSU, but your eyes will thank you for ever!

    Etc.

Made my build, had my fun, but unfortunately it has to go.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 06:46 AM PDT

Thank you to the community for the knowledge and help on my first ever PC build. Unfortunately, with oncoming events, I'm going to have to sell it. I'm active military and my unit is talking about moving us more and more, and let's face it, a mid-size tower is not that easy or fun to move that often. Unfortunately this means I have to get rid of it and move to a mobile platform. (Thinking of going to the Alienware Area 51M) Thank you to all of you for the advice and help through the desktop time, but alas, I didn't think it'd be time to part from her so soon.

I'm planning on upgrading my pc and honestly don't know if it's really a good time to change my video card, I've heard and read a lot of bad reviews for the RTX line of cards, my current processors is ryzen 7 2700x I don't know if that matters or not on the decision making, I honestly don't know much about this stuff tho

Amazon Warehouse Deals is the best place to find good computer parts at a low price. Period.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 10:02 AM PDT

I always buy "like new" from Amazon.

$100 gaming headphones? Sold for $60 because the packaging was scuffed. Bought a Samsung curved monitor that was $160, I got for $120 because of a minor scuff on the back. Unless you want the packaging new with it, I always do Warehouse Deals as they mark everything dramatically for something is simple as a damaged box. I don't go beyond "like new" though.

14 year olds first budget build.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 05:30 AM PDT

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Mainly gaming possibly a bit of school work.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

    About 1080p high settings

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

    ~€350

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    Ireland

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

    CPU: i5-2400 (€10) (Already purchased)

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2PV LGA 1155 (€38)

    Ram: 2x4GB ddr3 (€30) (Refurbished)

    Storage: 120GB Kingston SSD (€20)

    Storage: 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD (€35)

Case: Empire Gaming Warfare PC case (€45)

    PSU: Aerocool 500w Integrator (€40)

    GPU: RX570 4GB (€145)

Provide any additional details you wish below.

As I am 14 I have no fixed source of income so this build is expected to take until Christmas 2019. I mainly play strategy games so I wanted a build that could run things like Warhammer 2 well. I know the CPU is pretty old but it was much cheaper and better than what I was otherwise going with (Athlon 200GE). The reason i am not going with 16 gigs of ddr3 is that within a year of building I wish to upgrade to an AM4 motherboard for future upgradibility. The CPU, motherboard and ram will be second hand. Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

It’s about time I did something stupid myself. Always double check airflow!

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 08:32 AM PDT

So I built my PC in the fall/winter of 2017 and I added a Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition fan for an exhaust fan. Not sure if I read the instructions wrong or what(since then thrown away) but I installed it backwards. Since then I've wondered why my pc sounded loud and decided this weekend to do a deep cleaning.

Btw, the Focus G case front filter is an absolute pain to remove to clean.

As I looked at the exhaust fan, something didn't seem quite right and I never really tested the airflow myself. Decided to take a piece of tissue and low and behold it was intaking in the rear causing a cluster of airflow in the case and thus the noise.

Always double check your air flows builders.

    RX580 for £150 or GTX1660ti for £250

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:28 PM PDT

(Im a newbie to the pc scene)

Hello I'm looking to make a pc with this build (with a £650 cap):

    • AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core
    • ASRock - B450M-HDV Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
    • Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
    • Kingston - UV500 120 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
    • Seagate - BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM
    • Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB WINDFORCE OC Video
    • Fractal Design - Focus G Mini (Black) MicroATX Mini Tower Case

(Shout-out to r/buildmeapc for the build)

I can get the 1660ti for £250 brand new however I just won a bidding war and got a RX580 for £150 which is usually £180-£200

I was mainly getting this build for the Borderlands series including newly announced 3. I wanted it to last a couple years and to have 1080p 60fps high settings for most games.

    What im asking is:

What card would suite my build better ?

Did I make the right decision getting the card slightly cheaper?

Should I wait on any parts incase there's anymore sales?

Could this build be improved without increasing this price too much ?

Help choosing a Motherboard for a new build

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:13 PM PDT

Hi all! I am having a hard time choosing a motherboard for my new pc. I originally had picked the Asus Prime z370-A ii but after watching a few reviews and reading some articles I feel like it's not the best fit for my build? I could be wrong. But I am looking for a board that is compatible with the i7 8700k and isn't over 225. I'd like it to have at least 4 usb 3.0 (or 3.1) on the back and maybe 1 or 2 usb 2.0 and be able to overclock well. Thank you for all the help in advance!

This is my build if you need more information: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/AntonioM4172/saved/3G7cYJ

Edit: This build will be for gaming, streaming, and gaming and streaming at the same time if that helps at all.

    PC stuttering when playing games

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:07 PM PDT

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, not really aware of many subreddits like this. I've had my pc maybe 4 years at this point, and I mainly play CSGO and Dota. Recently I've been encountering stutters, that occur with maybe 2 second intervals and last maybe 10 seconds. They don't occur very often but I was just wondering what the most likely cause is so I can find what I need to replace. My CPU often has 80-100% usage as well and that's something I'm looking at upgrading as is. CPU is i5-6400 2.7GHz quad core. Thanks

Build done. Pc keeps turning off and on by itself.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:42 PM PDT

Alright the title pretty much explain what's happening. Beare in mind this happens only when the pc has a heavy load. For example: while browsing and so on works like a charm. Decided to play cod wm2 (yes, the old game lol) and it turned off by itself and inmediatly back on by its own. Everything is plugged in fine, fans are working, gpu is connected properly.

My setup just in case: i5 8gen, rtx 2060, 16 gb ram, evga 650 wtz , corsair h60.

    Any help is appreciated.

What does PCIE for CPU1 mean?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:38 PM PDT

I have a classified SR-2 dual Xeon motherboard. Next to the power slot in the motherboard for CPU1 there is a 6-pin power slot which says "PW12 - PCIE for CPU1"

Does this mean I can power CPU1 with a PCIE cable from my PSU by plugging it into this slot? Or is it for something else?

Asking because it looks like my current PSU (a Corsair HX850HW) has only 1 12V EPS/ATX line.

    Does this GPU fit?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:37 PM PDT

    Motherboard: Asus Z370-A II

    Case: Fractal Design R6

    GPU: Asus ROG STRIX 2060

R6 manual says that cards up to 300mm fit normally. Well, Strix 2060 is exactly 300mm so I'm worried it will cut it close.

Do I have to remove the HDD cage for it to fit properly? This would be a dealbreaker cause I need to fit 6 drives on the system.

    Thank you!

    i5 6600k to i7 9700k or wait for ZEN2

    Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:48 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU/MoBo/RAM (i5 6600k @4.5GHz, ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming, Kingston 16 GB DDR4 2666MHz). It's paired with a ASUS Strix RTX 2060 which I plan to take to the new system.

I actually read / watched quite a lot of stuff the past few days but can't really decide and would like to hear some opinions.

I have three options for CPU in mind:

    1) get the i7 9700k and be done with it 2) get the Ryzen 2600X now and upgrade to Ryzen 3xxx if worthwhile in Games 3) just wait for Ryzen 3xxx

All paired with some good Mainboard (~250€) and 16 GB DDR4 3200 CL14 Ram.

Main usage would be gaming, mostly at 1440p (also got 144 Hz) and quite some singlecore depended games like WoW.
