Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:03 AM PST I'm on verge of buying myself a new laptop. Its not urgent for me, I have decent laptop that does its job, but wanted to upgrade myself. Researched a bit, found out the new gen of cpus is just around the corner and could be wise to wait it out? So, do you guys agree or should I just go forward and buy myself something fancy and new? :) [link] [comments]
Why are laptop webcams so terrible? It's 2018. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:50 AM PST Recently purchased an HP Spectre X360 with a so called FHD IR webcam. The quality is simply terrible, it looks more like 240p or 360p than FHD. I remember laptops with 720p webcams looking better than this. For a comparison picture, I've included a picture that was shot on the HP Spectre X360's webcam vs my Galaxy S8+'s 12MP back camera (maybe I should've used the front camera?). There is a green/yellowish tint to the pictures on the webcam as well. Do I have a defective unit or are laptop webcams just this terrible? [link] [comments]

Question about selling two laptops. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:58 PM PST OK i have a MacBook pro model A1425. I don't have a power cable and the screen is cracked. I also have a hp pavilion dv7. Really the only thing wrong with it is the battery and age. Any recommendations on how to sell them or even selling just the Mac to get the money to bring the hp back up and running. Stuck on 30 Hertz, 30 fps while playing in Fullscreen (game notebook) Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:22 PM PST Dear Reddit users, I am looking everywhere for a fix, but i can not find one. I am having a problem with fullscreen mode with allmost every game i test. When i am playing in windowed - borderless, the games work fine. 60+ fps, 60 hertz etc. But when i switch to fullscreen, my FPS stays the same, but the game feels like it is 30 FPS/hertz. It starts to lag etc. I am rocking a Asus Vivobook PRO with an i7 - 7700 HQ, Intel Graphics 630 and a Nvidia Geforce 1050, 2 gb, 16gb ram. It feels like the game switches to the Intel graphic card when i am selecting Fullscreen or it switches hertz/fps. I have tried to reinstall every driver, without succes. Do you guys have any idea? Someone that had the same issue? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:16 AM PST Title, what do you all think? I need to run a lot of engineering software that is both graphics and CPU intensive so any other laptop recommendations would be awesome! (Laptops only, I need the portability) [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:52 PM PST I recently tried to upgrade my 250 GB SSD to a 500 GB SSD. I was successfully able to place the new SSD into the slot but I had to reinstall Windows with a flash drive and start fresh because I don't have a DVD slot on my laptop. When I tried to install Windows, I kept getting an error message but the laptop was able to detect my new SSD. I called Acer and explained my situation. They told me to send it in for a repair and told me that it was okay to keep my new SSD in it since I needed Windows to be installed on it (this is where everything went wrong). They finally shipped it out after what felt like an eternity. The stupid FedEx driver delivered it on Monday but he dropped it off at another house. The guy who accidentally got it finally called me today and I picked it up. As soon as I got home and turned it on I saw that I only had 237 GB of data. I then opened the laptop back up and inside I see a stock 250 GB SSD. I called them just now and was told that I have to wait until tomorrow so I can be transferred to "level 2". Fuck Acer TL;DR I sent in a laptop with a 500GB SSD and it was sent back to me with a 250GB SSD Edit: The stock hard drive is actually a 256 GB model and not a 250 one, not that it really matters. Just spoke to someone at "level 2" and was told that my hard drive was logged in as a 256B model when it clearly said 500GB on the sticker. They said that the hard drives are usually recycled after about 2 weeks so they have enough time to try to locate the hard drive and contact me within 1-2 days. The hard drive is probably gone at this point. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 04:48 AM PST So I've been on the look for a new laptop and over on /r/SuggestALaptop they reccomend that I check out the Acer Nitro 5. While it's within my budget and seems like it has everything I'm looking for, I've been hearing reviews of it overheating and Acer support staff being absolute trash. Also another concern is how my sister has an Acer and it's laggy and crashes regularly which makes me a bit weary to buy anything from them. So all I want to know is if the Acer Nitro 5 is worth it, or should I look for another laptop? [link] [comments]

8550u laptop heat - external cooling pad Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:53 PM PST Hi, I am thinking of getting a laptop with 8550u because of lightness, battery savings, and all the other goodies, but I read that bursts are limited because of overheating... So question #1: How much worse will it likely perform in a hot environment, say at 35c /95 Fahrenheit? 2 at home it will already be much cooler(ac) + I could put it on top of the external cooling pad, will the later make much of a difference?[link] [comments]
Thunderbolt 3 Dock Compatibility HP Spectre x360 Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:35 PM PST Has anyone had luck in pairing their HP Spectre x360 with a Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have been looking around, and came to the conclusion that a dock able to provide 85W to the laptop through the cable would be required for a one cable solution. Whenever I come across docks that meet these specifications there seems to be Compatibility issues. For example this dock by startech review. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/review/B073JDZGKK/R1OS3TB1CRKK9B/ Any advice is appreciated. I am looking for a one cable solution. [link] [comments]
Looking for advice on: Lenovo Ideapad 320 vs Acer Aspire 5 Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:58 PM PST I'm looking to buy a new laptop and given the options I have available to me in my region, I have narrowed the search down to these two (sorry the links are in Portuguese, but they have fairly readable tables): Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-58VH Lenovo Ideapad 320 They have almost exactly the same price and configurations as far as I can tell. Any thoughts on which I should get? I intend to install SSD some time this year too, in case that's important. EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice there was a form.

Is this laptop too good to be true? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:04 PM PST http://www.microcenter.com/product/484766/Pavilion_15-cc159nr_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Silver Judging by the specs of this laptop it seems insane for the price its at. 8th gen i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD alone are crazy for 799. Not to mention it has a Dedicated Graphics Card although its pretty old. Is this is a good deal or is there some catch? [link] [comments]
Looking for a new laptop -- priorities are keyboard/trackpad and battery life, $2k max budget Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:02 PM PST While I've owned Windows computers and use one at work now (Windows 10 is not bad), I've always primarily used Macs. That said, the recent changes to MacBooks really disappoint me. The Touch Bar not only seems impractical and will make me less productive but disappoints me in principle since it seems so poorly thought out. I've used the new thin keyboards, and I don't like them although my wife likes hers so maybe I could get used to it. The lack of ports is NBD to me. The qualities that matter to me from most to least important: Trackpad: I love Mac trackpad gestures and worry that a laptop from another manufacturer won't have as high quality of a trackpad on the hardware and software side. Keyboard: My favorite laptop keyboard of all time was the PowerBook G4's. It had good travel, very comfortable keys, and had... I don't know what it's called, but when you did the right amount of pressure, it depressed fully and smoothly. I remember using ThinkPad keyboards from around that same time and thinking they were just as good. Battery Life: This is less important... 5 hours of light/medium usage though (25% screen brightness, nothing super draining like gaming or Netflix) is a minimum though. A 15" screen is important as is build quality. I will not be doing any serious gaming on this machine (I occasionally play Hearthstone... that's about the extent of my gaming). Mostly, this will be used for web development, Photoshop, maybe some light video editing. The only other thing I can think of that would be nice is if Hackintoshing the machine isn't too difficult as I may use the machine for some iOS development. Spec-wise, I would like 16GB RAM and a quad core i7. Stuff like clock speed or more RAM is not all that important. I do not care about touchscreens, and the machine's thinness and weight don't matter much either. Right now, I'm begrudgingly leaning towards getting a new MacBook Pro... maybe a 2015 model although I worry about resell value. But I'm hoping ya'll have some better options. [link] [comments]
Better graphics or ISP screen? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:29 PM PST Trying to choose between two versions of the HP x360. One has has the Ryzen 5 with Vega 8 graphics and a TN screen, the other has and 8th gen i7 with the UHD 620 graphics and an ISP screen. I won't be gaming, but I will be doing photo editing. Is the better Vega graphics or the better display more important? [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:59 PM PST Pretty simple. Should I reinstall windows right away to clean all the bloat? Ive heard sometimes laptops come preloaded with necessary drivers so I dont want those wiped if they are required. Should I install other drivers? Which ones are needed for laptops, just graphics? Related but not specific to this sub, what windows 10 stuff should I do? Off the top of my head I like to always get windows photo viewer and media player set up since theyre far superior to the current apps imo but I know like Cortana and all that will be a pain. I remember at one point the windows store kept trying to install Candy Crush and other turds so is that still an issue? I looked into this and found a few articles but they were all basic without much specifics like "remove bloat", "get a vpn", "get a browser" etc unsure about flair. could also probably be discussion or software idk [link] [comments]
Asus ux370ua won't change with portable charger. Help! Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:57 PM PST Folks, I picked up an Asus ux370ua flip book over the weekend along with a ravpower 20100 mAh portable charger. I'm using a USB-C to USB-C cable from Anker. Despite this I can't get the thing to charge. Am I missing something here? Any help would be genuinely appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:36 PM PST I know pretty much all gaming laptops have ridiculous battery life (as of now). The only gaming laptop that looks to have decent battery life is the Gigabyte Aero 15X. My only problem is with the 60hz screen. I'm in no rush to buy a laptop, but I'd like to have one at the beginning of September this year. Do you guys think there will be a better iteration (possibly an Aero 15X but with 120hz screen) of gaming laptops that won't have trash battery life by the end of this year? And if not, should I settle with a 60hz screen for better battery life? Edit- Ah, and before you comment: I have reasons for wanting a gaming laptop as opposed to just getting a desktop. Need some gaming laptop advice Posted: 31 Jan 2018 04:26 PM PST Can't decide which is best between these 3 inspiron 7577 helios 300 Lenovo Legion Y720 I've tried watching videos and what not and it's hard to clearly understand which has the better battery. I got that the Lenovo is super heavy and that the 7577 has a slightly worse graphics card (barely as it's still a 1060) Between those three I basicly want to know which runs quiter/cooler and had a better battery life. I'm also confused on which has a better processor as that stuff makes zero sense to me lol they are all about the same price on Amazon TLDR: Best battery life, fan noise and cooling out of the three [link] [comments] |
