I started backing up files on my hard drive and soon it used every single space on my hard drive and now i have nothing available lol. | Cannot use administrator tools despite being the administrator Posted: 05 Dec 2019 06:38 PM PST I just booted up an old Windows 10 PC I had lying around, and I probably haven't turned it on in six months or so. I added a new hard drive, and wanted to open up partition manager to add a partition, but was given the error "This app has been blocked for your protection", and beneath it says "An administrator has blocked you from running this app. For more information, contact the administrator.". However, I've checked and there is only one user account on this machine, which is my account, and is an administrator. I'm not running Windows Server of any kind on my network, and there is also no option to run the application anyways. I've double checked to make sure that I had administrator permissions, and I still do. I'm wondering if this is due to my computer not being turned on in months. | Tool to handle monitor changes? Posted: 05 Dec 2019 05:25 PM PST I recently replaced my productivity/general use/gaming PC tower with a gaming laptop and an eGPU enclosure (Razer Blade 15 with Razer Core Chroma). At this desk, I also use the same monitors, mouse, and keyboard to operate my work laptop, that's connected to a docking station. I switch the keyboard/mouse by using the keyboard portion of a USB KVM switch. My personal laptop is set up to use 3 monitors; the two mounted to my desk, and the laptop screen itself. When I work, I sometimes wish to disconnect my desk monitors, and only use the laptop monitor on my personal laptop. To achieve this, I need to right click on the windows desktop, select my laptop monitor, make it my primary, then click on desktop monitors, then scroll to the drop-down menu that lets me select "disconnect" for each. Reconnecting is the reverse of the process. It's not that many steps, but this is a computer, and it's the same every time, so it seems like some kind of software solution could make this easier. It seems like these two modes could be defined ahead of time, and that I could just select from the two cases. Is there software out there that would facilitate that? [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:27 PM PST When I change the plain white generic .URL shortcut icon on the desktop with whatever .ICO icon I want, all is well as long as I leave the .ICO icons on the desktop. Move them, and the changed icons revert back to the plain generic icon. Where do I put these .ICO icons so that they are not on the desktop, yet have the .URL shortcuts retain the icon I want? Having two identical icons on the desktop where only one functions is a no-go, and I figure there must be a way/place to put these .ICO icons somewhere (system32?) so that I retain the functionability I'm looking for. Only my computer has been having this problem, says there's no driver installed or the device is not plugged in, even when they are. I'm not that computer savvy, just know the basics. | Windows 7 "VSS Ran out of time" Posted: 05 Dec 2019 01:33 PM PST I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate edition on an entirely new HDD. Specifically a 2tb Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM008. I'm running into ... I don't even know if it's an error but a message in Event Viewer saying that "VSS Ran out of time expanding files" and "VSS ran out of time deleting files". My windows is mostly fully updated (minus a few redundant updates/rollups that won't download) and this only seems to occur whenever VSS is opened, either for restore points or shadow copies. I've never experienced this on any other system and whenever it occurs, VSS and SearchIndexer both spike to 25% cpu usage as well as my HDD shoots to 100% usage for 30-40 seconds. I have no idea what any of this means but I'm under the impression that this isn't normal behavior. I've spent the last few hours looking online for solutions, but there is virtually NOTHING on this. As someone with OCD, this is bothering me to no end. Here are the full details of the 'errors': Details - This is reported 3 times simultaneously, then 30 seconds later a "VSS Ran out of time deleting files" is logged. Also there are programs that can recover files, is there any way I can't avoid that? It does on all other machines in the house, but not on mine. Windows simply refuses to install the right driver and that's that. The manufacturer says that the keyboard is „MIDI standard compliant", therefore it doesn't need any driver; besides, it's clearly a problem on my machine. Everytime I connect it, in throws this error in Device Manager:

Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:40 AM PST So my friend got Forza Horizon 4, and it isn't working for him, the game would just get stuck at the splash screen and then close, so after trying almost everything from simple answers found online to completely resetting the PC, yet the game still wouldn't work, i deleted the game, but then i thought of creating a new partition on his computer, cause he only had 1 partition, but the game is 73 gb and takes some time to download. I got my hard drive, to export some steam games he needed, and also tried exporting FH4, which would resolve any issues with windows store downloading the game, and save up a lot of time, but it wasn't very easy. Windows wouldn't let me export my game into his WindowsApps folder, even after getting full ownership of the folder. Then my last attempt was to run the game from my hard drive to see if that would work, but his windows wouldn't detect the game. So basically, I'm asking 2 questions, can you transfer windows store apps from one hard drive to another, and can you get windows to detect apps which are already installed on a hard drive. | Posted: 05 Dec 2019 08:37 AM PST HELLO REDDIT! So to put some things in context for you; I am have some problems with Wireless Display (Miracast) on a Surface Pro 6. After connecting it works great for about an hour then the connection starts to drop frames and lag. The only way I can make the problem happen is to open the wifi analyzer from the microsoft store while I am casting to a display. The question I have is? How many programs access or interrupt my wifi card in windows 10? Is there a program to monitor the wifi cards interrupts ? something similar to task manager or resource monitor but for the wifi access requests. This type of monitoring would allow me to see if something is accessing the card and causing the lag at random times, I could then look into disabling that or changing how often that item is accessing the card.
