Where does AT&T get their cheap "own brand" phones? Who actually makes them?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 02:57 PM PDT

I needed to buy a cheap AT&T compatible phone fast on Wednesday because my Moto X4's power port appears to have fried itself. I ended up buying a phone that called itself an AT&T RADIANT core. As I expected, the performance is not great and every part of the phone that clan be made of plastic is made of plastic. The phone is both thick and heavy by 2019 standards and the bezels around the 5.5 in display are huge. The power/sync port is Micro USB. What do you expect from a $35 smartphone. Nevertheless, it works to make calls, Reddit, and keep my life organized while I deal with the extended warranty on my Moto.

Curiously, the battery on the AT&T store brand phone is replacable!

Of course, the phone is made in China.

I was wondering if anyone on this sub had any idea of who made this phone, and whether it's strictly an AT&T model or if it's a rebranding of a phone intended for the Chinese domestic or African market.

TL/DR: bought a cheap crappy smartphone want to know who made it

    Error with Chrome for Android

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:14 PM PDT

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s8 and since last night I've been getting a weird certificate error randomly on websites I've been visiting for seemingly no reason. The message is along the lines of:

No Certificates Found Chrome has requested a certificate. Agreeing to this request will allow the application to use this certificate with servers from now on. The requesting server has been recognized as match.deepintent.com:443. Only agree to this request if you trust the application.

Any ideas on what this might be or what's causing it?

    No certificates popup on chrome?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:10 PM PDT

I'm getting a "no certificates found" popup in chrome, factory reset my device and it's still coming up. It's from some match.deepintent.com domain. It seems to be some health user tracking website.

    This literally started happening today.

Is my phone compromised? Adding screenshot for input.

Install list of apps on multiple devices?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 08:31 PM PDT

Is there a way to install a list of apps so it can be done on multiple devices? I have a couple of old phones the kids use. I'd like a way to push a list of apps and have them auto-install. Is there an app that I can give a list of other apps and it will install them all?

Phone always connects to non-existent Bluetooth speaker

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:39 AM PDT

    Hi

I am having an issue with my phone during calls where my phone switches to connecting to a "Bluetooth" speaker. The issue is: I have Bluetooth off and I do not own a Bluetooth speaker at all. This has never been an issue before and has just started happening over the past few days. It's important to note that I can still hear audio coming through my phone in calls as if I'm just using the phone audio normally, but it becomes impossible to switch to the phone's "speaker" speaker. The same applies to apps such as discord. All other kind of audio from the phone acts normally such as alarms or when watching media on YouTube etc. I have tried restarting the phone a few times.

Anyone know the issue and / or how to fix this?

Can't send Pics on my S8 on facebook.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 09:05 PM PDT

I keep getting an error saying "bad image".
If I try and send someone, or upload an image, taken with my S8, cloudsaved to my onedriver, it will fail. This does not happen if I take the picture with my tablet instead.

But I can send a photo to FB directly from my phone.

The only work around is to re-save it as .png or .bmp on my desktop...

    Thoughts?

    Question about phone upgrade

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:32 PM PDT

Hi guys, I have recently got a Samsung A20 for around $110 USD.

I am currently auctioning my Samsung S4 on eBay, and the current bid is at around $41 USD.

Do you guys think that my Samsung S4 could be sold for more? If not, do you think this upgrade is worth the $69 USD?

    Thanks :)

    Android 9 unknown caller id

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:25 PM PDT

I'm not sure if it is only my phone or if anyone else is experiencing the issue When anyone calls, the caller id says "unknown caller". This started happening after the most recent update.

Truecaller isn't able to identify it as it usually would if there was a private caller. I have a Sony Xperia 10. ~2 months old

If anyone knows how to fix this it would be a great help! Thank you in advance!

Feature to auto delete pictures taken in messaging app?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:11 PM PDT

Hello all, I've been looking around to see if I can find a feature or workaround to handle this. I have to take a few pictures at the end of every work day and send them to my boss. What it ends up turning into is having a few hundred photos on my phone of paperwork that I just have to go through and delete manually every few months.

Is there a way to auto delete photos sent through the messaging app from the phone memory? or just store them in temp RAM or something until its sent?

Is there a way to make all pictures I send to a certain contact fall into a certain album that way I can just safely clean out the album without worrying about my other pictures?

Just clarifying, I'm taking these pictures while in the messaging app (hitting the small camera icon to bring up the half screen camera) not sure if that makes a difference.

Can I install vulkan drivers on a device without an official update?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:06 PM PDT

I have an app that I suspect requires vulkan and I want to confirm this suspician (and hopefully get it to work on my second device).

My device however has android 6 and will not be upgraded to 7 (despite new device versions having 7).

Is there a way to download vulkan? Perhaps via AIDE?

How do I truly get rid of Google Duo?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:39 PM PDT

Alright, this has been driving me absolutely nuts. In my Accounts list, Google Duo is there. I have removed it many times, but it keeps coming back after an undefined amount of time.

So far... I have opened the app and removed my Google account from Duo. Then I uninstalled Duo from the phone. Then I used Solid Explorer (with root access) and deleted anything I could find related to Duo. Then I went through all these steps again, after finding nothing else relevant with a Google search.

The phone is a Razer Phone 2, running a stock but rooted Android 9.0. And this issue wouldn't drive me nuts quite so much, except that my contacts list shows many duplicate entries because Duo knows and shows a second entry of every contact on my list that is also linked to Duo.

    Mx player : Strange notification

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:53 PM PDT

So I got my first notification today on my phone from MX Player, but when I looked at it, it was all just in what I think was Arabic text. I clicked on it and it just opened up the player. I saw nothing strange on the app. Would this be something to be concerned about?

Every phone I've had has eventually had charging issues

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:36 PM PDT

I've always had androids since I first got a smartphone (galaxy s3, lg g5, and now galaxy note 9) and with each phone I have ended up having a serious charging issue (not charging at all, having to switch modules, or having to charge at some obscure angle) and I'm tired of it. Has anyone else had a similar story or is this bad luck? I am going to try wireless charging when I get my hands on one

Is this Purple Loot App I found a virus?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:14 PM PDT

I have a Samsung S7 & my google play store has been acting up this month. Whenever I tapped the install button the screen would just blink briefly and the app wouldn't install. I went to clear out some storage and found this Loot App with a Purple Icon taking up 426kB. https://imgur.com/a/q1DOlnL

Looked like a virus at first but also looked like a harmless google play add on. It had permissions to just about everything. Thanks for the help in advance!

    Disable screen rotation animation?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 04:46 PM PDT

Hi, I'm trying to find a way to disable the screen rotation animation that happens when you transition from portrait to landscape orientation.

I'm aware of the developer option to turn off transition animations, which does exactly what I want. However it also disables a bunch of other animations, like windows and apps opening and closing. I'm only trying to disable the screen orientation change animation.

    Corrupted SD card

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:47 PM PDT

    Help, Reddit hive-mind!

A couple of hours ago, for no apparent reason, my Android phone started playing up so I restarted it. It was doing odd things like not letting me download pictures on WhatsApp and it wouldn't start Call Of Duty Mobile (which I think was installed on the SD card).

Upon restart, my phone got stuck in a strange cycle of starting and restarting and when it eventually started working again it told me my SD card was corrupt. Having tried to format it, my phone now tells me it is unsupported and will not format the SD card. This is despite several attempts and having also removed and reinserted the card as instructed.

    Two questions, therefore:

    • Is the card a complete write-off?

    • Is there any way to find out what apps were installed on the card and what data I might be missing? I don't really want to install any of those dodgy-looking apps from the App Store! Aside from a few apps missing from my menu, my phone seems to be working ok.

I'm on Android 9. I was using the SD card as internal memory not as a portable card.

Thanks in advance - I appreciate any help you can give me!

Switched to Android and I have some problems I cannot find the answer to anywhere!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:45 PM PDT

I recently made the switch to Android from iOS. I have to admit, although I'm happy with my new phone and can't beat the price point (I bought it for battery life and price) I don't think the interface is as good. There are a few things in particular I'm struggling with.

I've searched through all my settings and googled, for over a week now, and I really cannot find any answers. I wouldn't bother asking others something that Google would tell me. I think the problem is that there are so many versions of Android.

    I have the Huawei Y5 2019 running EMUI 9.1.0

First thing, is that with my headphones, the sound is muted. It's like the volume is capped. I cannot find any settings related to this. Is it EXTREMELY annoying.

I have bluetooth headphones which have a separate volume control on them. I've found that when I turn the volume all the way up on my phone, I can turn it up even further using the volume control on my headphones. But I want to be able to control the volume of my music all the time. It's like the volume is capped at what my phone has decided is a 'safe volume' and I really don't appreciate this. I've found apps that will raise the volume, but it distorts sound and also raises the volume of everything, meaning I have to either enable/disable all the time or deal with really loud notifications.

Thing two, how do I change the icon shapes? It's a small thing, but at first the icons were round. I liked it. Then I played around in settings and changed my icon layout. Icons changed to square. Nothing changes them back. There's no option to change the icon shape in my settings. I thought this should be easy? It's annoying me that its so hard.

Things that should be easy but are proving hard are annoying me a lot, which brings me to thing three; I set a theme where the time is displayed in black. I customise to change the wallpaper to something mostly white. Time is now displayed in white, and I can't read it. Why?

Something a bit bigger that I find really irritating; closing the app that is making the sound doesn't stop the sound. My music, podcasts, and the white noise I play at night, all keep playing when I close the app. If I close the app I have to also lock my screen and pause it, or pull down and pause it. Even then, the widget stays open.

If I close the app, I want it to stop. So... stop? Is it supposed to do this? Can I change this?

My phone screen doesn't light up when I get a message. If my phone is on the table and I get a message, I prefer it to light up and display the message, so I can see what it is. I don't want to stop what I'm doing to see if its something I need to look at immediately. Any settings that change this?

When I'm using Google maps, when I close the app the map turns to 'in screen' which does not work. It's ridiculously annoying. It doesn't work as maps, and doesn't allow my other apps to work properly. I travel a lot, so I use Google maps a lot. This is infuriating. It's trying to be so clever that is slows down the whole OS and even closing the damn thing becomes a pain. Any way to stop it from doing this? If I want to see the map... I'll look at the fucking map. Otherwise, leave it running in its own app instead of getting in the way of all the others.

If anyone can help me with any of this I'd appreciate it.

    Verizon Message+ question

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:43 PM PDT

Anyone ever notice sometimes they text someone through this app. Sometimes it'll say delivered and others it'll say sent with the same person. Any reason it's like that? It usually only says sent when I send a long text. Does that mean they still haven't gotten it if it doesn't switch or they got it? Unsure to send a follow-up text or not.
