    Pc upgrade under 20$

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:11 AM PST

My friend challenged me to upgrade his lga 1150 based system for 2-3k rupees (28$ - 42$) , soo here we go

His original specs : Pentium g3260 (2c/2t @ 3.3 ghz), Gigabyte h81 motherboard, 4gb ddr3 @ 1333mhz, 400 watt shit power supply that was included in the case, 120gb ssd and 1 tb hdd, And yes no dedicated gpu.

    Upgraded specs : Xeon x3440 (4c/8t @ 4.125 ghz), Gigabyte P55 motherboard, Rx 460 4gb, 2 x 4gb ddr3 @ 1600 mhz , same storage, Vs 450 watt power supply (But don't worry I undervolted cpu a fair bit ).

All this upgrade for just 1300 rs (18$) !

Now how did I do this,

Firstly I sold the old motherboard, cpu and ram for 5,000 rs (70$) and from the same guy got the 2 sticks of ram, yes for free (actually more of a exchange) . Great deal! Then I got a faulty P55 motherboard from a local reseller for 1000 rs (14$), I took the risk because he had tried to flash the board and bricked it, but he didn't know it was dual bios . So I bought it and flashed and it's working just fine, and he also included a deepcool gamma Archer 120mm cooler for just 200 rs (2.8$). Next I got the cpu from AliExpress originally it was of ~700 rs (9.9$) but I made a new account and got a coupon of ~300 rs (4$) , so cpu for just 400 rs (5.6$). I got the gpu from olx ( Indian Craigslist) just for 3500 rs ( 50$). And I got a used Vs 450 watt power supply for 1200 rs (17$).

    For people weak in math

    Cpu : 400 rs (5.6$) + Gpu : 3500 rs (50$) + Psu : 1200 rs (17$) + Mobo : 1000 rs (14$) + Cooler : 200 rs (2.8$) = 6300 rs ( 89$)

    Old parts 5000 rs (70$)

    Soo, 6300 - 5000 = 1300 rs (19$)

The build is complete, stress tested it for a whole day everything is normal. I'll be benchmarking it soon for now my friend is using it to do live streams at 720p60 with a bit rate of 5500 software x264 encoding, he is playing games (pubg mobile and cod mobile) on his phone and mirroring it to pc so the stream is without stutters and perfectly smooth. Yes i know there are other paths to go, but with the extremely limited budget and time and current availability I think this build is decent.

The Rupees to Dollar isn't perfect as the rates always change. And yes I got some once in a lifetime deals (at least according to our used market rates, which are just one of the worst). My English also isn't that good (Perks of living in rural India ). And this is my first Reddit post, soo tell me any changes that are required in the post.

    RGB configuration gave me disease

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:06 PM PDT

Alright so I built this dope new PC in August, with a fair amount of RGB.

    The RGB parts are:

    • NZXT H700i case
    • MSI X570 Gaming Edge WiFi
    • G.Skill Trident Z
    • Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L
    • Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super

I left all the RGB alone with the default rainbow effect until now. I wanted a simple, subtle red breathing effect. It should be a quick setup, right? 10min tops.

    WRONG!

I had to install the NZXT CAM software to control the case's lights. The software is ok, except that it asks me to login EVERY SINGLE TIME, despite me checking the "Remember me" box. It wasn't correctly detecting the led strips, but after a reinstall/restart combo, it was all good. Alright, not the smoothest experience, but case lights are "breathing red" just like I want.

"Now, everything else must be controlled by some motherboard software." - The naive me.

I've installed the Mystic Light software just for it to say that my motherboard isn't supported. After a quick google search, I've realized that I had to install Dragon Center. After a quick installation, there I was, controlling all RGB lights on the motherboard, except that the software is pretty awful and I can't do a smooth and subtle breathing effect like I did with the case's LEDs. The effects are awful overall and "static" red color is the only acceptable one that wouldn't make the PC look like a cheap chinese christmas light.

Now, wait, my graphics card is still rainbowing! Oh, I have to install yet another software package just to change that freaking Gigabyte text color! AORUS Engine with Fusion Light or whatever. So, I've installed it and, hey! Another piece of horrible software. I went straight to the LED light configuration and guess what, affects are even worse than the ones for the motherboard! Static red light it is, except that if I type the color HEX code it doesn't do anything! The color must be picked with the color dial...

Then I've noticed that the RAM light is a bit off, it's more orange than red. Let's open the Dragon Center again to adjust it... Nope. There is this "Waiting for SDK initialization" message that appears now everytime I try to launch it.

Let's try restarting the PC. Wait, what? All the motherboard lights go back to the Rainbow effect as soon as I hit Restart and stay like that during boot! WTF? They only come back to red once initialized! At least the RAM light went back to red and I'm glad that it did, because Dragon Center still has the same "Waiting for SDK initialization" message and I was never able to launch it again, even after some reinstalls/restarts. So, I've just uninstalled it. While I was at it, I also uninstalled the Gigabyte led software.

Meanwhile, I launched the CAM software again and somehow the lighting control option disappeared! What!? After a quick google search I found out that it could conflict with Precision X, Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming, RGB Fusion, Asus Aura, MSI Mystic, Afterburner and Corsair Link programs. Basically every single RGB program out there. So, how the fork should I control the other RGB leds, NZXT? That seems like the most obvious thing that it shouldn't conflict with!

Now those were 4 hours well spent just to make my PC lights red!

    TL;DR

    • NZXT requires the installation of the CAM software which can only control the NZXT case's lights and conflicts with every other component's light controller software, so make sure you install it first and configure its lights before that option disappears;
    • MSI Dragon Center launched only once and never again, so make sure everything is perfect the only opportunity you get - and choose static color. You still get the rainbow effect during startup;
    • Choose static color aswell and good luck picking it if it's not a very basic color;
    • There is no way you can match the effects between all components, so stick to static colors;
    • Be prepared to spend a couple hours troubleshooting.

Can i leave one side panel open?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:09 AM PST

Im just not getting finished with my build and im trying to put on the last panel, but the cpu cooler is too big for the other panel to go on. Is it okay to just leave that panel off? Or would i have to not use that cpu cooler? Any advice or help is appreciated!

edit: i didnt expect this to be such a debatable topic to you all so, the thing in the way is the cpu heatsinks brown tops poking out forbidding the panel to close, so i told my dad and hes willing to drill in holes in the panel to help it close. thank u all for ur interesting comments, you can say this case is getting closed. Literally.

GA 1660 SUPER GAMING OC vs GA 1660 Ti OC

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:16 AM PST

    Hi everyone!

I'm ready to finally upgrade my old and dying RX470 4GB Strix and there are 2 cards I've been thinking about:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER GAMING OC 6GB GDDR6 Memory: 14000 MHz 192-bit GDDR6 Base: 1785 MHz Boost: 1860 MHz CUDA cores: 1408 3 fans

    and

    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti OC 6GB GDDR6 Memory: 12000 MHz 192-bit GDDR6 Boost: 1800 MHz CUDA cores: 1536 2 fans

As you can see, the Ti version actually has lower rated clocks and that makes me doubt whether it will actually be faster, like most tests suggest. I'm aware that the performance difference, if there's any, will be minimal but I'm looking to get the best possible FPS and both cards are the exact same price here (~315USD, tax included).

Which card should I get? Or maybe there's another one that would be worth considering? I plan to play in 1080p/60fps high or ultra (when possible). Thanks!

Are my GPU temps way too high? I have an MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB Video Card

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:54 AM PST

It tends to idle around 60c, depending on my room temp. And when gaming on say, Ultra on Siege, I see temps reaching around 82-83. And I have my fans set to hit 90% when it reaches that.

According to a couple people, that is WAY too high/hot, idle and under load.

    Is a 100€ 1060 6G worth it over a 250€ 1660 S ?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:35 AM PST

So, a little context: My friend is selling his 2 year lightly used 1060 and I I'm on a tight budget. I'm making a new build with either Ryzen 5 3600 and my friend's 1060 or a Ryzen 5 2600 and a 1660 Super. The other parts are pretty much a standard.

The first choice is gonna cost me about 540€ and the second choice is gonna cost me about 630€.

With this build I want to edit my videos , game, record the gameplay and maybe stream. I'm mostly playing single player games and some eSports titles.

I'm not that demanding though, I'm okay with 1080p 60+FPS ( any graphic preset as long as it's stable )

So for me the obvious choice is the first one but I wanted a second opinion. Am I gonna have issues with recording the gameplay? Or any other issue I might have, no matter how obvious it is, I'd like to know.

    What do you think?

PS: Ram is gonna be 2x8 3000mhz

Installed an MSI Ventus RTX 2080 Super and noticed this.

I'm going to guess they're not supposed to look like that, but I don't think it's going to hurt anything, right?

If I could get this damn build to start, I'd find out. I think I've got a bad PSU.

    Sigh.

    2070 Super vs 5700 xt

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:30 AM PST

Deciding between this 2070 Super https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-super-08g-p4-3071-kr/p/N82E16814487456

    and this 5700 xt https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-5700-xt-100416nt-8gsr/p/N82E16814202351

Is the extra $50 worth it? I have heard its a toss up. The drivers for the AMD weren't as good when they first came out but they should be fixed. Ray tracing tanks fps in most cases. I plan on upgrading to 1440p when I get these cards so thats the main goal. Which one should I get?

Is it possible to find a 144 Hz G-syinc/Freesync that is also good for photography (24 inches)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:31 AM PST

    Hi all,

I am considering to get a adaptative 144 Hz monitor. However, everywhere I look I see they use TN panels, which are not very good at representing colors. Besides gaming, I also do a fair deal of photography. I am currently a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp monitor.

Is there any option for me? I don't want anything bigger than 24 inches, as mi desk is pretty small and 24 inches is big enough for the distance I'm sitting at.

My specs are: i5 6600k, 16 Gb ram, RTX 2060

Rtx 2070 aftermarket cooling? Blower fan sucks

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:25 AM PST

Hey guys, I bought an rtx 2070, at the time I didn't realize the blower fan would be so insufficient, my temps will rise above 80c. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good cheap alternatives to cooling this card. I'd like to try and keep it under 100$

Some of the games I play freeze for no reason whatsoever, it does not crash the computer entirely just the game (in game sounds can still be heard but the game itself is not responding, cant move cursor, inputs not responding).

Graphics drivers are the latest, as well as system drivers (in Device Manager). I dont know whats been causing my games to freeze as of the past 4 months and its getting annoying to deal with it. I have been running some of my games in windowed full screen in anticipation of them freezing so i can terminate with Task Manager. It cant possibly be overheating parts since there is ample amount of air being filtered. I really dont know if its the drivers or the parts. It might be the games' not allowing for overlays to run with the game? (Destiny 2 doesnt allow MSI Afterburner to run overlays, Shadow of War can but it still freezes)

So far what I've done to find the problem are:

    • roll back on the drivers but that didnt do anything, problem still persists

    • cleaned the gpu of any dust, reapplied thermal paste on the cpu (not sure if that is the problem because if it were, the entire system would just freeze), also cleaned the psu of dust and is clear

    • checked RAM profiles and are fine

New to building... Is this a good start for gaming/programming?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:40 AM PST

    https://pcpartpicker.com/user/hjordan23/saved/#view=yXx3t6

After watching some videos I put this together. It would be for more for gaming, nothing I believe is too intense (LoL, WoW, etc) but I plan on getting into programming too. It fits my budget of $1500ish excluding peripherals and I still have some research to do on monitors and what not. Would this build be a good start and can I add/change things in the future? Maybe suggestions for slightly better parts?

Can someone recommend a PC Case?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:48 AM PST

    I have an HP Omen Obelisk Desktop PC Model 875-0024 with an i7 8700, a Micro ATX "Edoras" motherboard (24.0 x 24.0 cm (9.45 x 9.45 in)), 16GB ram, 256GB SSD and a 2TB HDD.

I just bought an MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Titanium graphics card and my case isnt deep enough for it, meaning the card sticks out beyond the edges of the case, and I can't close the glass side panel.

Can you please recommend a compatible case?

Hi! This is my first ever build and after some research I've put this list of components together. My friend says the build sucks because intel is better for gaming, but the 3600 looks the best to me. What do you guys think? There are also a couple of things I am worried about:

    • Is this a good and viable setup for my intended use?
    • Is the price/performance ratio any good?
    • Will these components work together without any issues? I've heared about Ryzen 3 incompatibilities with the b450 chipset

    Thank you in advance!

    16GB or 32GB of Ram?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:55 AM PST

I'm building my first PC ever but it'll be my 2nd PC. I had one growing up so I'm super excited. I got a 4K IPS monitor for photography and light video editing. This is all hobby stuff. And another monitor different specs strictly for gaming. I got 16GB G. Skill Trident Z Royal ram which I plan on overclocking with my 3700x and 2080 super. Should I stick with my 16GB or get 32 GB if I plan on occasionally editing 4K video?---I posted this is another subreddit, I just wanted more opinions. Thanks!

Where do I start in the building process? I've never done it before. Any good resources?

aircooling an i9-9900k or 3900x in a SFF case?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:17 PM PST

    Hi all,

I'm rebuilding my PC using a silverstone SG-08 case and one of the above chips (still haven't decided yet). The case isn't really designed for water cooling as it has a 180mm fan on the top pushing air down so I'm going to go with a noctua NH-C14S and put the fan below the cooler, resulting in a push pull cooler format.

Does overclocking either of those chips seem realistic with air cooling?

    TIA
