Experience with Netconf and Cisco IOS?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:57 AM PST

I recently started using Netconf on my XR, and NX-OS platforms but wondered if anyone has experience and/or advice running it on plain old IOS? I have it enabled on a router running 15.9 and can get the router to respond with it's capabilities but nothing more than that. Guides for just IOS Netconf seem pretty sparse. I also noticed IOS isn't supported as a platform in ncclient. Are people actually using Netconf with IOS?

This is the Cisco IOS Netconf documentation I could find

leaving bigger environment for smaller but smaller has higher pay..anyone have success stories?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:13 AM PST

has anyone left a bigger environment (hub) for a smaller environment (spoke) but the job duties were basically the same and the smaller environment actually paid more?

seen a potential opportunity to do this which means not being the guy anymore for all sites but the guy for one site and the pay would be same and or more in the long run.

i question the overall office health of the potential new place, the personalities of my new peers, and how good is management dishing out projects.

Edit - I have been from small to large and now thinking of back to small.

ECOC 2019 summary: optical networking industry more cutthroat going forward

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:43 AM PST

    Link here: https://www.lightreading.com/optical-ip/post-ecoc-2019-optical-networking-beyond-the-thunderdome/a/d-id/754791?page_number=1

First off, I run /r/siliconphotonics, which covers the semiconductor industry's attempt to branch into optics, so my summary of the above link is from that perspective.

The European Conference on Optical Components (ECOC) is Europe's largest conference of its type. The industrial focus is usually on networking for obvious reasons. A few interesting nuggets:

    • The Ethernet market is collapsing this year with -18% year-over-year revenue projected. The author speculates that this is driven by lower Tier 1 company demand rather than pricing pressure
    • China is holding up least a couple of the major industry acquisitions, including Cisco/Acacia and II-VI/Finisar
    • Alibaba is sourcing its own 400 gigabit transceivers through Chinese hardware company HiSense. HiSense will be using silicon photonics technology instead of more traditional methods involving free space optics and fibers. As far as I know, a big provider self-sourcing this component is unusual.
    • More buzz about co-packaged optics and electronics in single chips for the 51.2 terabit switch generation and the probable death of pluggables due to power constraints. The two main efforts to move beyond pluggables are COBO and co-packaged optics, lead by Microsoft and Microsoft/Facebook, respectively. If and when this happens, it's expected that silicon photonics will be the only way forward

    Expand VoIP subnet over VPN

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:20 AM PST

    Hello,

I have a new remote location that I will be setting up and plan to use our existing Mitel 3300 phone switch at the new location.

Question is, instead of using teleworkers, I am wondering if there is a way on Cisco asa5516 firewalls, or the layer 3 switch, to expand the VoIP subnet that the mitel is on to the new location.

I have done this with mikrotik routers via IP tunnel, but I do not use mikrotik anymore, and want to avoid this.

    Thanks!

    802.1x authentication for mac os?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:05 PM PST

hey guys i moved to an student housing for my studies but the wifi here is real shit like sometimes it straight up doesnt work. I made it work for my windows pc with an online guide but now I need it for my mac (macos catalina) but I dont get it to work. I already did some googling and there are some guides for older macos versions where you could just add a profile for 802.1x within system preferences and all other guides seem to be geared towards enterprise professionals which I am certainly not. And when connecting the usb to ethernet adapter to my macbook it says that there is no ethernet cable connected.

I hope you can help me , would be really appreciated!!

Edit: i also played around with the iphone configuration utility trying to create a config which i could use for my mac but that didnt help much

Wifi bridge for management/monitoring of remote PDU?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:48 AM PST

I have a ServerTech rack-mount PDU mounted under a desk (12 x C13 outlets). I'm also hoping to pair this with a EMTH-2-10 Temperature/Humidity sensor, and grab power and environmental statistics via SNMP.

Unfortunately, that desk is nowhere near any Ethernet drops.

I assume the PDU doesn't need a tonne of bandwidth, nor is it latency sensitive.

Are there any compact wifi-bridge devices that might be suitable for this application? Or other things you might suggest?

UPDATE - I should mention that the location is < 10 metres from a wireless AP - unfortunately, adding more structured cabling at this point isn't really an option.
