Help finding my Father a good laptop

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:34 AM PST

So my dad is looking for a new laptop as his current one has become slow with time and all his anti-virus stuff he runs in the background over time. His current one has a 1tb HDD with only 4gb RAM which is why it runs so slow while trying to do mist tasks.

I am thinking he needs a laptop with the following specs-

    14.5 inch display

512gb SSD or 128gb SSD with 500gb normal HDD

    8gb ram

I5 CPU is needed or AMD equivalent.

He does not need a gaming laptop and has a budget of £500-£600 in USD $640-$780

Any laptop brands will do, thanks in advance!

    Best Black Friday Deals?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:11 PM PST

Does anyone have any Black Friday deals they're looking into? I saw this one offer for a Lenovo Thinkpad, originally marked $2000 all the way down to $1200, that might be too good to pass up.

Where can I buy a 3 prong power cable for a razer 200 W power adapter since Razer sucks?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:59 AM PST

The Razer support team really sucks. I sent Razer my laptop in for a microphone issue. They ended up forgetting about my laptop so I ended up waiting a full month to get my laptop back and the charger that I sent them. If waiting a month isn't already bad, they failed to send back the charger! After another week of not being able to use my laptop, Razer sent me a new one that (just arrived in the mail today) however the 3 prong cable is missing! Does anyone know where I can buy one? I lost faith in Razer's "support" services.

Is a Dell Latitude E6440 still a good deal?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:23 AM PST

I've got the opportunity to buy this model for around 120 USD.

I'm not looking for something faster nor powerful. Just a laptop that can handle daily and some programing tasks fine.

Looking for a new laptop for my dad on the last Black Friday before Windows 7 support Ends

Looking for a new laptop for my dad on the last Black Friday before Windows 7 support Ends

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:** At most $1,000 (can go above budget by $250), United States

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I need best specifications for the money.

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Very important.

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows 10

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 15"

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Finale 2007, Wondershare Filmora, Photoshop/GIMP

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** N/A

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Reliability is of the essence.

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** See below:

    Good day to you everyone.

During my visit to Japan this year, I was bombarded with two things when I went to the large electronics stores (Bic Camera, Yodobashi, Yamada Denki) around Japan: the celebration of the Reiwa era beginning and the end of support for Windows 7.

    https://preview.redd.it/7vre4jejmpw31.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4507ad1443cd522e0ea556906976923e05d629a8

This has prompted me to search for a new laptop for my dad. He's currently using a 2007 Toshiba Satellite laptop, which is currently running Windows 7. Even though he accepted the offer for me to upgrade the twin hard drives to SSDs (with one containing Windows 7 and another containing Windows 10), my mom suggested that he should buy a new laptop.

Black Friday is coming up very soon, so it would seem like a perfect time to purchase a new laptop. And, given that it's 2019, it'll be the last Black Friday before Windows 7 support ends.

As I stated above, my budget is at most 1,000 USD (with 250 USD over the budget being okay), and the country of purchase is within the United States. I really need the best specifications for the money, and portability is paramount (I don't need a 2-in-1.) My dad needs Windows 10, and he needs it to run software like music composition software Finale 2007, Wondershare Filmora (because Movie Maker was killed in Windows 10), and Photoshop or GIMP (Photoshop preferred). I don't want a laptop that dies in less than a year (such as those HP laptops).

If you have any suggestions, feel free to reply.

    Laptop for my mom

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:09 PM PST

    Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a laptop for my mom, she uses it daily for work (she edits 1000+ page manuals for businesses). The criteria are as follows:

    - Windows

    - 16GB RAM

    - 1TB+ of storage

What are some good websites to look on for decent laptops? I tried Amazon but feel like there may be a better place out there. Thanks!!

Looking for laptop for programming good battery

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:16 AM PST

Max budget is $1500 can't stretch any further. Looking for a laptop for programming that has excellent battery life, I like a ton of battery. I've been looking around but I can't decide so I'm coming here to help, I need atleast an Intel i5 8th gen or above (preferably 10th gen) I can do AMD processors but I don't know much about them, I love open source so that would be nice too. 8gb (preferably 12) of ram, atleast 256 gb storage and 1080p. I don't care about touch screen or 2 in 1 but I'll use them, screen needs to be atleast 13 inches, I've been searching everywhere and I can't decide, I've been looking at the HP Spectre x360 and the Spectre folio, I don't know what kind of programming I will be doing in college but my main interest is app development, mobile OS, and OS development, maybe a little bit of light game development but nothing heavy at all. I prefer a thinner laptop, I know this is extremely specific but I want to make sure I can get one that will last that's within my budget. I won't do MacOS or chromebooks though, need windows/Linux. Thank you!

Sorry about the formatting and comma splices, I'm bad at writing.

    Help with this?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:58 PM PST

Gaming Laptop ASUS TUF FX505DU-AL031, AMD Ryzen 7-3750H, 4.0GHz, 15.6" Full HD, 8GB, SSD 256GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, Free Dos - around 850 usd dollars. (the price might go down on Black Friday) I will use it for editing software (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator), school, (JetBrains IDE's and CodeBlocks), Discord, Minecraft, Dead by Daylight, Destiny 2, Paladins, Overwatch, Tomb Raider etc. (I'd want to buy Cyberpunk 2077 for it too) mainly and I don't need the graphics to be on ultra. I have heard it's a pretty decent laptop and I want to know if it's worth it. Cheapest laptop in Romania with this kind of specs. If I buy it what should I add to it? I don't know how to undervolt or whatever that is unless I am told how. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Do old used laptops ever sell?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:31 PM PST

I see a few listings of my 7 year old one (which was somewhat high end at the time costing over $1k) on ebay for like $300-$400, but no idea how long they've been listed for or if any do sell. It's also harder to judge at what price mine in particular would sell because I've made a few upgrades like adding an SSD and swapping out the optical drive for a bigger hard drive, and some caveats like no optical drive, scuffed webcam, and battery percentage being inaccurate despite holding most of a charge.

Help Finding Light Discreet Gaming Laptop

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:22 PM PST

I'm currently a student on my postgrad studies, and I don't have as much time to game anymore, but I still like to dabble from time to time. The thing is, I play games which are somewhat graphics intensive or unoptimized, examples being Escape From Tarkov, Star Citizen, Archeage Unchained, etc. Right now I currently own an Asus ROG Strix Scar II (yeah, horrible name) which has a GTX 1070 (Non Max-Q), 16gb ram, intel 8750H and 512gb m.2 NVMe Drive + 1tb Samsung EVO 960 SSD. I wish to find something that can game at a similar point than my current ROG, and as I understand, the GTX 1660 ti is around similar performance. I want to sell my laptop and round up money to purchase a new one. I really want a premium metal feel, so I'm leaning towards the Razer Blade 15. I'm just not sure about it because my fear is the fans will boost up while doing simple note-taking and they will be way too loud (something that currently happens with my ROG). I was also thinking of Maybe getting the Razer Blade 13 and adding the Razer Core X to it later one, but I'm just not sure. I much prefer the look of a single filed piece of metal rather than many parts joined together. I also like small exhaust fans and nothing massive. Anyone have any recommendations?
