    Reviews

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:35 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I often find myself checking reviews on games on the play store. You know, to see if some game is worth downloading or checking if one of my old games is improving in order for me to get back to it.

I don't normally check the positive reviews and I focus myself on the negative ones. Most of the time people just rate 1 star a game because "doesn't have the italian language" or "Doesn't work on my Nokia 3310" or some bullshit like that.

I believe Google should put in place some check before let this people ruin the rating of a game. You can't imagine how many good games I find that have loads of negative reviews (and scores below 4 stars) because of this plague (Evertale in primis)

Maybe it's just me ranting but I really hate this situation.

    What's your thoughts?

    Cheers

Can someone help me remember the name of this game?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:31 PM PST

A while back I played an rpg that had pixel graphics. You had 3 characters: a knight, a witch, and a rogue/thief. Combat was a timing/rythm style thing. The first boss was a sewer monster and you had to wait for the eye to reveal itself. It had IAPs and random gear/shrines. Each fight took place on a single screen and then the next room you'd either swipe up or down to get to depending on the location.

That's about all I can remember... any ideas?

Edit: It's Deep Dungeons of Doom, thanks to u/shigatosis

Not necessarily tower defense, but more like zombie defense where you need to clear hordes that come at you all at once

Any games similar to PS3 Eye of Judgement?

I really enjoyed the strategy in that game and something just reminded of it. I assume it would transfer to mobile well with the gacha/collection aspect.

    Razer Junglecat review

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:03 AM PST

People asked me to make a review of the Junglecat when it arrives so here it is:

    The good:

The controllers feel premium. High quality plastic is used, buttons have good travel and the sticks are similar to the switch sticks. (I wouldn't worry about drift here as the sensitivity can be adjusted)

Latency is pretty much non-existent. Die-hard purists might spot a bit of it but for everyone else, it's fine.

Unlike most Bluetooth controllers, this one doesn't have the dreaded deadzone issues and are smooth around all contact points.

The case is great and solid and it looks good on my phone.

You can use only one single controller at a time so for those that play FPS games with finger aiming, they can comfortably use just the left controller.

All buttons of a regular controller are present and they are re-mappable for gamepad enabled games on android. (re-mappable as in you can switch functions between buttons. Ex: A turns into R3)

    The bad:

While the controls can be re-mapped, you can't actually map on-screen controls to buttons.

The buttons themselves make quite a bit of noise. Could bother some people.

There is no actual manual locking mechanism. The controllers are held in place by a metal ball-point. To get them out you jast have to tug a bit harder on them. The controllers hold the phone good so it won't randomly fall out but right now the plastic is rigid and holds well, who knows how the future will look like after multiple slides.

Overall I personally consider this a great purchase and it stands out above most Bluetooth controllers. It's safe to say it will replace the daqi M1 as my go-to controller.

[REQUEST] A game that is funny

I would like a game with a story, not an on and off game and not a puzzle game, perhaps an adventure game, but open to everything. I just want it to be funny, be it through dialogue or situational humour. Open to suggestions, thank you :)

Are the newest Android Emulators fixed?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:12 PM PST

I want to play some 64-bit games, and apparently they all require newest version of Emulators.

However I checked them out a few weeks ago and they all seem to have issues, I am not sure if they're fixed now.

Anyone that have them knows if they've been fixed before I can install them?

Nox - malware + cryptominer included by the DEVs, are they removed/ fixed?

Memu - malware not by the DEVs, last I heard they were trying to remove them.

Bluestack - hidden runtime that prevents Sleep/ Hibernating in PC after closing emulator.

Are any fixed? Or is there any other emulator that can run 64-bit games (such as Digimon ReArise, Spriitwish and future games such as Blizzard/ Riot games) without GooglePlayStore telling you, you can't install the game or causes frequent crashes when playing.

(I know some ppls install APK on older emulators, but they get frequent crashes)

I'm looking for an incremental game that has at least some kind of depth to it, already played clicker heroes, tap titans 1/2, adventure capitalist and idle miner tycoon, so I'm already kinda tired of those kind of games, I'm looking for something more similar to Antimatter Dimensions, ngu idle or maybe like clicker heroes but with some new features besides the click, grow, restart formula

    Gunspell 2 overview

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:38 AM PST

Hey all. Just wanted to make a post detailing my love of Gunspell 2, and why you should give it a shot.

Gunspell 2 is a match-3 RPG. I've played a lot of these games in the past, and I was even a bit of a whale in Marvel Puzzle Quest, years ago. The main reasons I love G2 over others is the Hex pieces, the true feel of an RPG with different gearing strategies for your characters, and getting use out of your whole roster.

G2 is played with hex pieces, which adds so much complexity when a piece can be moved 6 ways instead of 4 like the standard match-3 games. That also means cascades are more likely, where you make a match and have the falling tiles create another match. But for the most part, you can plan these out if you plan far enough, which just adds more potential for skill. But cascades are balanced by ...

G2 has 7 types of tiles. 4 colored mana, 1 skull attack, 1 shield, and 1 lucky coin. I think this is on the higher end of number of tile types for a match-3. 5 seems to be the standard for square match-3 games. MPQ had 7, but the 7th was weighted to appear much less frequently. You won't have much use for all the tile types until you have a high level character, but that teaches you early on to deny the mana your opponent needs.

Each character has several equipment slots that each unlock at a certain level, and 1-3 abilities that are native to the character. Equipment slots are usually for 1-2 categories of equipment, so you can't just slap all your best equipment on your best character.

Here some of the big reasons I am in love with Gunspell 2 right now:

    • You get to use your full roster. In PvE mode, each character gets one attempt a day, though it can by bypassed with a high gold cost. Difficulty and rewards is randomly determined before you pick a character, so you can use your weaker heroes on easier missions instead of just throwing your strongest heroes at whatever pops up first. In PvP, each character is ranked individually and has a first-win gold bonus. So you can play a game with a low level Common to grind gold, and be matched differently than with your high level Epic. However, season rewards are roughly based on Wins across all characters, which makes an odd dynamic since you still would not want to use your best character for every match, since you would eventually get matched against tougher and tougher opponents.

    • There's no BS about dumping currency in to a character to level it. A character's level is just how many parts of it you have collected. This ties in with using your whole roster.

    • There's less power difference between Common, Rare, and Epic heroes. At least at low to intermediate levels. This is because a huge part of your power level is equipment, which also has rarity levels. Rarity on Heroes is more about how their stats scale, what their native abilities do, and how many equipment slots they eventually get (which might only be 1-2 higher than a Common). Epic heroes and equipment require less pieces to level up, but they are also less available. Levelling up equipment appears to only affect the passive stats instead of the baseline ability, which tightens the gap.

    • P2W seems less of a problem. The amount of Gold I get in a day is on the level of a $10-$20 microtransaction. So it really doesn't seem worth it, and there is a very limited amount of microtrans (unlike many games with tons of offers popping up, specifically targeted at your playstyle and spending style). You start with an Epic hero, and I frequently see Epics rewarded in PvE mode. I also seem to get 2-4 Epics a day from Diamond chests that I save up gold for. My roster might actually benefit more from buying a higher volume of lower rarity chests, and thus more overall roster development. There are some consumables for equipment slots that might be P2W, but most of them don't seem to scale, a good amount are handed out for free, and they usually come at an opportunity cost of other real equipment.

    • PvP is live, not a bot piloting a player's loadout. This does mean turns are timed, and it isn't as easy to pick up and play anywhere, but it's worth it in my opinion. Each match feels like chess to me. Each player evaluating their opponent's loadout, coming up with a strategy, and executing it. Each game feels unique, which honestly will likely change at a very high level due to metagame. One of my games last night involved both me and my opponent trying to accumulate blue for a very high damage ability. So we were both aggressively denying blue, making sure to avoid certain matches that would cause blue pieces to fall in to place for the next player to be able to match. I know this hero frequently gets their native ability hate-matched against, so I stack Shield stats and have an equipment with a damage ability with a 4 turn cooldown instead of a mana requirement. So my strategy with her is to stall out the game, go for shield gems, and rely on my slow and consistent damage.

    • It can be really hard to tell how a game will go, even from halfway through a game. The Shield stat could help an underdog recover if they take a lot of HP damage, and shield-bypassing bleeds could help another underdog get past huge amounts of shield when it seems hopeless.

    • I also really love how defensive stats are a big part of the game. Armor which gives a flat reduction, Block which gives a chance to ignore damage, and Shield, which plays in to the Shield Gems. Shield Gems each restore 10% of your shield, so 30% from a standard match-3. Your max shield amount is largely determined by your hero's base stats, but can be increased by equipment. Armor also makes each point of shield more useful of course.

Last, but not least, the flavor of Gunspell 2 is also great. A scifi/fantasy fusion. Mages with shotguns, a Werewolf wielding a chainsaw. A cop slinging spells. Some of the PvE enemies are great too. Like a scifi Beholder, made up of skulls and circuitry. The developer works with a scifi author to write character story blurbs, and has a link to their Amazon page to buy his books. Neat, though I can't speak to his overall writing quality.

Overall, I think I would mainly like to see more to do. They supposedly are working on story missions for each hero (writing more backstory), as well as friendly PvP, but I don't know how long those have been "in development". At the very least, it is frequently updated with new stuff of all rarities. I do miss the guild features some games have, mostly because I would coordinate with them on things and have a real discussion channel hosted through Discord or LINE or something.

Thanks for reading my very long winded post. Just nice to get all of this in to words.

edit: I thought I should add: Mana gems charge abilities, though some abilities are Turn-based cooldowns. Skull gems make a large attack, with damage determined by passive and equipment stats. Shield gems I mentioned above. Lucky gems charge up a meter towards an extra turn, and give Gold in PvP.
