How do I remove a useless (and often misidentified) word from the default speech to text dictionary? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:36 PM PST My brothers name is Jon, not John. text to speech basically doesn't recognize the existence of the correct spelling, substituting the more common spelling. While I know people named John, I'll be happy to manually type their names 100% of the time if I didn't have to freaking edit my brother's name every single dang time. tldr: how do I get voice-to-text to recognize my brother's name correctly every time? Only 3 options in "Select Source" Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:24 PM PST As you can see in this image, I cannot select files as Android 10 seems to only show a list of 3 for the sources. Is there any way to fix this in, like, build.prop or some settings file somewhere? [link] [comments] |
Android device with ECC support Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:35 PM PST Hi. When i use iOS or Android device a lot of time it slows down. If i reboot the device, it starts working in normal condition. I guess some bits corrupting on RAM. Is it possible to use ECC supported LPDDR RAM with Android or iOS ? Smart OS developers, Smart Phone makers and Chip makers should care this thread. Because our smartphones works 7x24 I personally dont care %5 slow down when we use ECC RAM. I can trade this slow down with stability. So what do you think? [link] [comments] |
LG Stylo 4 Android 9 update help Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:55 PM PST I have an LG Stylo 4 from TMobile. My best friend has a factory unlocked version of the same phone. Her phone updated to Android 9 (Pie). Mine didn't, and I don't know how long it will be for TMobile to roll out the update, so my question is: Can I manually update with the Android 9 unlocked Stylo 4 firmware on mine? or would that require me unlocking my phone? Or just not work at all? [link] [comments] |

What is the point of Authenticator apps when most services will let you bypass with an OTP via text? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:17 PM PST I stupidly reset my phone a little hastily without backing up my Google Authenticator codes. I thought I had just locked myself out of all my accounts but now I'm finding that most accounts I used it for will let you circumvent the authenticator with OTP via text. So now I'm wondering what is the point? Should I just get a Security Key? My worry is that if I lose that, I am truly SOL... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:13 PM PST I rooted my phone a while back, today I unrooted it, flashed the latest stock image, and locked my bootloader. everything was fine until I restarted after locking my bootloader and it said my device is corrupt and cannot be trusted. Is this normal? edit: Pixel 3a, android 10 edit 2: after enabling developer options and turning off oem unlocking, the warning disappeared. I'll leave this up in case anyone else comes across this issue and panics like I did, haha. [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to org Android screens from a desktop? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:24 PM PST Got a new oneplus, I have a ton of apps I'd like to organize into folders on various screens. It would be a lot quicker if I could do it with a mouse and pc. iOS you can do it via itunes and I was wondering if there is a way to it via android. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:47 PM PST I found a Moto G 1st gen I had in a drawer a few days ago. It's on Android 4.4.2. As I have always used iOS, I wanted to play around with the device for a bit (never even used Android), and I have found out that standby drain is absolutely pathetic. The phone is on Airplane Mode. Everything is completely disabled, location is off, etc. Every setting that may impact battery has been disabled, for the sake of trying. No dice. Now, the battery section shows 81% of battery was used by "phone Idle", in 1 day and 6 hours of Standby. The phone was unplugged at 100% and is now at 56%. Screen on time is 2 minutes. So, 44% drop in around 30 hours. When I tested it overnight the other night, it dropped 13%. Any ideas? Is it Android 4? Is this... normal?! I know that standby time was always far better on iOS, but 44% in a day? Come on. The phone has not been used a lot in its lifetime, so I am not inclined to blame battery health. Battery should be good. Especially considering that screen-on time is, oddly, decent. (Got me around 1h 45 mins with 80% remaining. That's good, it's what my iPhone 5c on iOS 9 gets). Anyway, I don't know anything about Android. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:53 PM PST theres this game i had a long time ago where you were climbing a mountain by tapping on the right or left side of the screen to jump in that direction, and you played as this little deer and the more firefly-like things you collected, you could unlock more characters, i think there was a cow/bull and there was definitely a fox and some sort of crow or raven, you could also buy these little powerups like mega jumps and stuff, and the whole thing was super stylized and artsy with earthy colors and chimey music, i forget the name but its some 4 letter word i think [link] [comments] |
[LG Stylo 5] Can't stay connected to Wi-Fi reliably Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:13 PM PST I have an LG Stylo 5. Whenever I connect to a Wi-Fi network, after a short but indeterminate amount of time, my phone will lose internet connection (saying "no internet" but staying connected). This has been affecting my phone since I got it back in July. I have confirmed this problem across 3 different networks, so it must be my phone. Any ideas / solutions? Thanks in advance. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:23 PM PST I'm looking at a very cheap s8+ that has no imei attached in the settings. It seems to not be a floor model which leads me to believe its stolen as fuck or has had some failed attempt at flashing it. Has anyone fixed one with this issue before? I've got a fair bit of experience with rooting and flashing androids but this is something I've never seen personally so any input be appreciated [link] [comments] |
Got a weather alert for Paris? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:08 PM PST So, I don't live in Paris, not anywhere NEAR it, but I got a weather alert for thunderstorms in that area. It's worth noting 2 things. 1. I have Paris's time zone along with my normal time for my time widget on my home screen 2. There was no beeping or vibrating, just when I turned on my phone there was a little swipe down notification for it. It also didn't show up in my EAS history in the settings. [link] [comments] |
App updates when not charging (didn't used to) Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:52 PM PST My phone used to only update when on the charging cradle. Just in the last day I see it is updating them whenever on WiFi. What might have changed? I'm not sure I really care, but it seemed like a nice battery saver. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:51 PM PST Its time for me to get a new phone. Torn between options though, currently running with a oneplus 5t, prior to that I had a nexus 6p and a oneplus 1. The phones Im looking at are the s10, note 10, oneplus 7t series, and maybe...maybe a pixel 4. I love rooting and pure android so buying a samsung would hurt. The 5t is the perfect size for me but a better screen would be nice. Are there other options that I dont have on my list that I should be aware of? [link] [comments] |

HandShaker has stopped working. Are there alternatives? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:45 AM PST I'm troubleshooting transferring photos and videos from an LG VS988 (running Oreo 8.0.0) to a Mac (running Mojave 10.14.0) over USB. It had been working for a year, but now HandShaker just spins; no files transfer as the dialog box claims the transfer is taking place. I asked the user "what changed" but he claims he has not updated any software. He doesn't even know how to update so I kind of believe him. Also he still has .0 software on both, so that supports his claim. Rebooting both devices did not help. As a test I tried connecting the phone to a different Mac running Catalina, but Handshaker keeps crashing on that Mac. It looks like HandShaker has not been updated since 2016 and is not compatible. Does anyone have suggestions for reliably getting files from Android to Mac? He has gigs of videos so that makes a cloud solution difficult; local transfer is strongly preferred. Since HandShaker isn't working, is there an alternative transfer software product I could try? I read the FAQ but all the suggestions are 4 years old and I'm hesitant to try outdated methods/products. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

I can't rename a .nomedia folder in Huawei P30 Pro Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:55 AM PST I accidentally renamed a folder I was meant to hide as ".nomedia". After which, I couldn't see the folder anymore. I tried various solutions I found in Google but none of them seem to work. I did enable the "show hidden folders" option but it still didn't show. Please help as I really need to recover it. Note 10 + battery dying fast after update Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:04 PM PST I have a Note 10+ and my battery was lasting on average 18-20 hours. Best was 25 hours with decent use. Like 5 hours on screen time. And since an update a couple days ago it has been cut in half basically. And in battery usage "Android system" is the biggest killer. 29%. Idk what specifically is causing it to take so much battery. I've cleared cache partition and cleared cache on "Google play services" and helps for a bit but doesn't last. Any suggestions? Any way to find out what specifically is causing high battery drain? [link] [comments] |
Android OS had been compromised Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:25 AM PST A week ago my wifes Samsung S9 got stolen. It took us 4 hours to find out and after that we quickly changed our passwords. But they had already been in her Google account (drive and so on). But naively we just thought we saved our account. 2 days later we bought another phone, S10. While installing the phone and re-entering the Google account, my wife said she saw a black screen like it was recording a dark room and then it disappeared. But she naively didn't think it was something wrong. A couple of days later, someone remotely took over the phone with a pop-up facecall (not an app). They were filming a screen and showing my wife our pictures of our son and us on that screen; and dark video of us having sex (probably deep fake, because we don't have recording of ourselves on the phone). Mainly they were doing sextortion. I'll spare you the details and stuff we need to do; it's just fucked up. The last days I've been changing passwords and using 2-step verifications for every account, using an Authenticator app on another phone (my iPhone). So I think I saved all her and my accounts at the moment. Since then, there were no attempts of recovering those accounts from them. After that I've turned her phone (new comprised s10) off, got the Sim out, and sealed the phone and put in the microwave. Now she's using another phone, s7. But she again put her Google account on it. Although there are no weird activities, I don't trust it. And here is what I want to ask.
And last but not least: - if so, how do I find and remove this from my Google (Drive), without formatting everything? PS: I already installed Avast Mobile Security, SEP Mobile, Malware bytes and Kaspersky Internet Security. None of them could find anything on the S7. [link] [comments] |
