    Dual monitors flickering

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 02:04 PM PDT

    Hi,

I work at an office where most of us are using 2 monitors. About 1 week ago people started to have problems with flickering monitors. We could not really find a pattern until today when someone restarted and updated her pc, her screen started flickering like the others. This problem didnt exist 2 weeks ago and has affected about 8-10 people in a 5 day span.

We are all running w10. Mostly asus monitors. I don't have the specs for the pc in My Head, can provide tomorrow.

We tried auto upadte on drivers. We switched power outlets We tried unplugging one monitor We tried new cables on the pc that flickers the most

The only thing that seems to trigger it( otherwise it's random) is putting the pc under load.

Could a windows update have caused it? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

The least privilege to read AD

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 05:11 AM PDT

    Hello,

We have one app, that requires to read our AD (from specific OU), and we want to create an AD account especially for this app, but it should have read only privileges.

"Domain user" is still too high privilege for us (because it can login to the PCs or join new PCs to the domain (default 10 pc's per user) etc.).

Network List Service (netprofm) getting stopped after system restart

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 11:56 AM PDT

    Hi All,
Whenever I restart my system Network List Service (netprofm) is getting disabled and stopped. Everytime I had to manually start it to get the network connectivity. Is it some kind of bug in Windows 10?

USB flash drive showing error message: "There's a problem with this drive, Scan the drive now and fix it", can't seem to find a straight forward answer

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:19 AM PDT

So I had been transferring files to a USB drive the last few nights and I'll admit I was physically removing it without ejecting it first. Well I plugged it back in and now I'm getting the error message of "There's a problem with this drive, Scan the drive now and fix it". Most articles seem to agree it's mostly caused by not ejecting the drive properly. Now I have a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to.

1)Will scanning the disk as my PC recommends erase the contents of the drive? Because I've seen one article from EaseUs (the first Google result) claim that it most likely will but it was written as if it were an advertisement for their data storage software, it seemed disingenuous. Plus I haven't found any other articles that claim that's a risk. Nonetheless I had started the scan and when I read that I immediately cancelled it (I actually had to kill the power strip on my computer because it wouldn't let me cancel)

    2) Despite the error message I can still access the contents of the disk with no discernable issues. Can I just ignore this from now on? Or is it going to cause issues with the disk down the road? Going back to the EaseUs article they say you can ignore it and continue to access the storage "for awhile". What do they mean "for awhile"? I also should note I've now properly ejected the drive multiple times and even restarted my computer but the error message continues to pop up whenever I patch it in

    Thanks in advance!

    Windows 7 Face Recognition ‘Screamer’

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:19 AM PDT

I didn't know where else to post this so I'm turning to the Windows subreddit for help, an explanation, something, anything, because this has perplexed me for YEARS. Why did this happen?

I know the title is vague, so here's some background:

Around 2012/2013, I was home on my Toshiba Windows laptop. From what I remember, a blue dot unexpectedly lit up above my screen. I knew it was associated with the built-in biometric Face Recognition application; so, I went to the Windows search bar and located the Face Recognition app.

But I clicked on the app, countless tabs opened in Google Chrome - which was the s.e. I was using at the time - with url's linked to the image sharing website "Imgur." I remember my heart dropping because I knew something was about to happen.

What the tabs revealed was a gorey photo of, I think a baby or a person's face being zoomed in-and-out quickly accompanied with a blood-curdling scream (I can't remember too well because once I saw the photo & heared the scream I put my laptop on the floor and ran to my mom lmao). Also, I remember my volume being muted then suddenly set to full volume.

What followed was my brother logging into my laptop while the screaming continued - both from me and my laptop (Did I just personify a computer?). I was extremely shooken up, petrified almost. I had never been so scared in my life. Anyways, I can't remember what happened after my brother logged in, but I assume he closed Google Chrome because there was no longer any sound coming from the computer.

After a while, I explained what happened to my mom and my brother. They looked at each other and me and began to laugh. I started to chuckle because it sounded so ridiculous. I mean seriously, wtf just happened? Since then, I NEVER touched Face Regonition again and did not use my laptop for two months because I was terrified by these events.

I remember explaining what happened to my closest friends at school the following days or weeks. The day I explained it we were turning on the school laptops we had borrowed from the C.O.W. and a scary photo appeared which made me jump. It was the desktop's wallpaper. Lmao I must have thought to myself: Damn, I cannot catch a break.

Network Sharing not Working in Windows 10

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:36 AM PDT

So I have a desktop and a laptop connected to a home wi-fi network. I've turned network and file sharing on for both machines. I've also turned off password protected file sharing. I right click on a folder and 'give access' to 'everyone' with 'read/write' ability. When I go to file explorer > network I can see both machines.

Now if I go onto the laptop and try to open the desktop computer I receive an error message saying 'path not found' Error code 0x80070035. If I try to access it using the IP address I get the same error. Just out of curiosity I tried pinging that address and it had 0% loss and appeared to work.

When I jump on the desktop computer and access the laptop, I can see the shared folder and files no problem and edit them.

For some reason it appears the desktop can access the laptop but not the other way around.

Any suggestions? I've tried searching for the error code and all I can find is non-stop queries about NAS drives not working after a recent update and enabling SMB1 protocols which seems very unsafe and completely unrelated to my issue. :/

I tried going online to Microsoft's website and tried entering in my product key at the bottom of my laptop but I had an error message come up saying it can't download because it came pre installed. Random drop in CPU ratio

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:51 PM PDT

I disabled all power saving features, in bios and in software.

Also download QuickCpu to disable parked cores, and there disable all power saving features.

Do you think i need to download throttlestop to set all cores to same all the time, or this a bug in software.

I currently use windows 8.1, but when i was in 10 i dont remember having this problem. I cant upgrade to the 10 right now, so i think this a intel software problem in windows 8.1 probably, idk.

    windows 10 not playing bass

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:43 AM PDT

I don't usually put on earbuds but today I did and it sounded awful. After messing around a little I found Boom 3D equalizer couldn't play anything below 125hz. On my other laptop it has an "enhancements" tab in the speaker's device settings where I could look at the driver's equalizer but this one does not so i don't know what to do. Any help appreciated.

Wake Source: S4 Doze to Hibernate

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:16 AM PDT

This is an issue that I've been having for a while (about a year?) but only now have decided to actually make an attempt to fix.

Whenever I set my laptop to sleep, I've found that it ends up doing... Something. It wakes up and I can't really tell what's going on other than that I have to frequently get up in the middle of the night to shut it off.

According to event viewer, the computer will wake up around two hours into sleep due to "S4 Doze to Hibernate". I'm not sure why, as I've searched through my power settings and under no circumstance is it to go into hibernation, but I digress. After this, it's presumably in hibernation for about two to four hours before it wakes up once again from an unknown source.

If it was simply waking up and going back to sleep for whatever reason, I wouldn't mind. Annoying yes, but it's not the end of the world. However it's what the computer starts to do after waking up from hibernation (presumably) that really irks me. See, it starts up the fan at full speed, and for whatever reason, it won't wake from this fan-blazing state. The light indicates that it is still in hibernation, but no amount of key presses or mouse movements seem to get it running again, and I end up having to reboot the computer in order to get it to stop.

I can't tell when this started exactly, since I'm typically half asleep when this happens, but from what event viewer says, it's been doing this for the better part of the year. I assume that if I'm able to stop whatever this "S4 Doze to Hibernate" issue is, the unknown waking source should resolve as well. Let me know if you need any more information and I'll do my best to provide it.

    Thanks in advance!

Multiple BSODs on fresh install of Windows 10

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:01 PM PDT

I recently upgraded my computer, and have gotten many different BSODs while trying to install Windows 10. There include but are not limited to:

    • KERNEL_AUTO_BOOST_INVALID_LOCK_RELEASE
    • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (What failed: FLTMGR.SYS)
    • IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    • DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
    • SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    • MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
    • APC_INDEX_MISMATCH
    • DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    • KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
    • KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I finally managed to install Windows 10 after many many restarts and critical updates, but I still get the same BSODs all the time. I thought it was just because I didn't have any updated drivers, but I've updated them all (including manually going through the device manager and checking each individual one), and installed the appropriate AMD chipset. I've also installed all the Windows Updates. I currently only have one stick of RAM mounted, and don't currently have my front USBs connected to my motherboard.

I get the same BSODs in safe mode, and I've run my RAM through memtest and it's come out clear.

What's going on? I'm pretty sure all my hardware is compatible with each other and Windows 10. Since everything is fresh, there aren't any 3rd party programs interfering. I'm at a loss.
