Basically I am looking for a way to add a voice to text button inside each individual app the same way you would operate on an iPhone. | When updating windows all I’ve been getting is a black screen Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:42 PM PST I was on my computer and I got a notification asking me to update. So I did, it started and after awhile it went to a black screen. The screens been their for almost 2 hours. I read online that some people waited days until they had to turn off their computer and then that messed up their computer. Is this normal and how much longer will it be like this? He said he was forced to do the windows 10 upgrade from 8 and during that it failed, it failed a few times from what he says. I've tried everything there is no repairing it so I will have to do a clean install. Any one of those options requires a password, which I don't have. Attempting to sign in simply brings me to the last black screen, a dead end.

It's all unresponsive. I can't access settings or anything, even the browser is unresponsive from the start menu. I updated windows 10, and still nothing. I have deleted various folders and ran the repair tools within windows. But the PC seems to be perpetually stuck on this alleged "Feature update for windows 10 version 1079" This is a "free" update PC from windows 8. | Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:54 AM PST Not sure if this is the right place (maybe r/linuxquestions or r/windows10), but my boss has asked me to come up with a script solution to manage some of our AD users (preface: I work tech support at a university so 90% of the machines this script will be run on are lab-style machines access by AD users (students/faculty)). He wants a script that has the capability to do any/all of the following: check if a user that's logging in is the most recent user, delete some user files from C:\Users if they haven't logged on recently, map certain network drives according to which user is logged in, change certain accessibility settings based on which user is logged in. The main issue is that most PowerShell-based solutions to this require communication access to the Domain Controller. My boss's (and my) AD accounts don't have the authority to do this so we're looking into other PowerShell, Bash (via Windows Subsystem), or (preferably not) cmd.exe solutions that are local to the machine instead of querying the AD domain. Again this would probably only be run on machines in an established computer lab regularly used by students. I'm proficient in Bash and have a little experience in PowerShell. My boss said we could also look into a solution written in C# or something similar. Are there any suggestions for approaches? [link] [comments] | ||
| XBOX One Controller not working (Win10) Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:44 AM PST Hey there, I got a big time problem. I recently found out that my xbox one controller isn't working anymore. Well, it is working but not recognized by my computer. Everytime I plug it in it vibrates one time and then it won't do anything. If I press the xbox button it will flash for a few seconds. I even bought a new cable and tried every USB-Port but it doesn't seem to do anything. I also checked if the drivers were installed (didn't find them). It was working just fine a few hours ago. | Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:53 PM PST This issue resolves temporarily when I reboot my laptop, but has an irritating habit of cropping up again randomly after maybe a month or two sometimes sooner sometimes later I have no way of gauging as it seems relatively random. I tried lots of things. Only my google chrome browser is capable of reaching either google search or youtube and all other browsers cannot access anything so this is not an issue of IPv4 which I checked. There are no firewall issues that I can see on the surface. I can ping websites when I am unable to access them via browser. Flushing the DNS did nothing at all. I've also cleared the cache using Ccleaner recently before this episode as well so I'm assuming that's not the reason either. I've searched for an answer to this problem ad nauseum every time it has happened to no avail. It seems to happen at times where it is most inconvenient as well which is encouraging me to believe my laptop simply hates me. [link] [comments] | ||
| Reverting From Ubuntu Back To Windows Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:27 PM PST I installed ubuntu on my windows 10 pc (which was soo slow) and have been enjoying it since but need to get it back to windows as I'm passing the computer on. There is no option to run windows when I start my computer so I presume I didn't dual-boot it (idiot). Would factory resetting the pc sort it out? | Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:06 PM PST Hi all, Today I have installed my first windows server and was trying to setup static IP. The problem arose when I was trying reserve the static IP on my modem for the MAC as it turned out my PC (vm host) has the same MAC as the VM machine. They are both showing on the network device list only have different IPs... If i just set the static IP on the machine it works ok, just start having trouble when I set it on modem directly for it to keep IP assigned.
I went to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager. Right-click on virtual network Adapter and clicked Properties. Click NetworkAddress and set value to different MAC. Rebooted. Didn't change a thing except now I lost network access. Reversing change brought it back.
it's possible that I missed something and why MAC would be showing same as my host PC MAC even after changing it manually in network adapter settings in device manager? Is it because it's a VM and at the end all traffic goes through my host network card? I am using Hyper-V and have virtual which is set up for external network. I did not re-format my second hard drive, and Windows 7 doesn't seem to be detecting it. I really don't want to lose all the data on that drive, is there anything I can do to make it work with Windows 7 without losing all the data? Disk Manager says that is Healthy(Primary Partition), but it also says that the drive is empty which it is not. [link] [comments] | ||

Stepdad bought a uses laptop running windows 7 professional- in Spanish. I tried installing XP. It said it was successful but didn't change anything. Not being a Spanish speaker/reader makes it very challenging to navigate they control panel. Is there anything I can do? Trying to avoid spending $100 on windows 10.
