Laptop WASD keys 'stick' - but only in games Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:30 PM PST Hi all, I have been experiencing WASD keys sticking in games for some time now. It only happens in games, usually after a long-ish key press (hence only really affects movement keys) and I generally only run the games in fullscreen windowed mode. A quick Alt Tab fixes the issue. Doesn't seem to be related to heat of the laptop as it can happen cold sometimes too. Windows Sticky Keys is off. I'm running a Lenovo E470 with Windows 10 64 bit. Hope you can help.. I can't seem to find anything online about it. [link] [comments] |
A text message from my iPhone was sent 10 minutes ago but I did not send it and I am scared Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:39 AM PST The text was sent to someone I had a car accident with telling him to meet at a train station and was written in grammar I don't use like "im stuk". What is scary is the fact that my iPhone has been next to me all day while I've been playing my PS4 and I'm very scared right now. How could this have happened, how can I find out? *edit - it sent another one to the same person saying "I'm leaving to go Brazil am going now" *Edit 2 I have changed all my passwords. Speaking to another Apple advisor now who called me but doesn't know what the issue is... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:07 PM PST My PC won't boot, it's just keeo telling me "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" My motherboard is ASROCK so it has a different UEFI, This is the advanced mode: https://i.imgur.com/ZjGpHoS.jpg Keep in mind I was just on my PC using it just fine about 30 minutes ago. Anyways, These are my boot options: https://i.imgur.com/swhMvcn.jpg This is what shows up when I click one of these options: https://i.imgur.com/M0bdOr2.jpg Those two options have the exact same hard drive name next to it, (SATA3_0: WDC WD10EZEX-08WN4A0) I've tried using the windows boot manager one and it just did the exact same thing, ive unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in, did the same thing, this PC is only about a year old. Just incase you are wondering, under Boot/Hard Drive BBS Priorities there is only one Boot Option which is the one I just named. What do I do? Please help. [link] [comments] |

Need help with Windows 10 on gaming PC Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:50 PM PST Hi, I built my first gaming pc a couple months ago, I installed Windows (from a USB), updated all of my drivers, and everything was working fine, including my pc's booting. Two days ago, I needed to update one of my drivers, pretty sure it was a graphics card one (GTX 1060 3GB). Once downloaded, I had to restart to apply it, completely normal. However, after my pc restarted, it booted into the Windows installer, as if I never had it to begin with (I never removed my usb, boot order didn't change). I thought it was weird, so I tried both resetting again and changing around my boot order; all of these brought me back to Windows install. So I went ahead and reinstalled Windows, in which all of my old files were moved to Windows.old (and some other Windows.000 file). When I got into windows, I could literally find none of my files on Windows.old, even though they have to be there because half of my HDD storage is still used (~400GB, games and stuff). This is not at all what I want, I don't want to have to reinstall all drivers, games, and apps. Is there any way to fix this? Please help! Also, this is two days late because of work for me. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |

Windows 10 Startup problems and internet problems Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:41 AM PST So when fall creator's update came in i started to get this weird problem that my computer sometimes would not shut down normally and instead act as if i had put it into sleep mode. Initially i thought that they would fix the issue with a hotfix, however 3 months later issue has only gotten worse. Sometimes computer keeps restarting itself after i shut it down, forcing me to shut it down by the power button on behind of my computer. It's not the best but now? now even that causes my computer to wake up and open whatever i had been doing. This is an issue for me cause it just REALLY slows the startup and computer starts to do lot of unnecessary stuff. Second problem has been regarding internet connection. Specifically im using 4G internet that im sharing from my phone to computer via USB. However for long time its been very finicky, sometimes just cutting off from even slightly touching it. And after fall creators update its gotten an habit of just cutting off randomly. Even though connection works on phone. But yeah, sorry for wall of text but i'm also not so sure if windows has been just bad lately, i just don't get it why Microsoft would not try to fix it in 3 month's time period. Just curious, is this what we call "the monitor is refreshing"? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:14 PM PST This is a video I took with my phone and am wondering if those moving black bars mean the monitor is refreshing. This is a 144hz monitor from ASUS, but when I do the same for my 60hz monitor from Dell, those black bars don't exist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6vFmdtzZY&feature=youtu.be [link] [comments] |

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:07 PM PST Hey, I am having trouble getting my laptop to stay turned off. I am currently running linux mint, with a second hard drive running win10. No matter what I have booted into, if I select power down, my laptop will turn itself back on. This was a thing before I dual booted with windows, and before I installed a second hard drive. It's a Lenovo Thinkpad 430s with a brand new keyboard. If I remove the keyboard, and shut it down with an external keyboard, it will still instantly power itself back on. The only way I've managed to get it to stay off is to remove the battery as fast as I can once it's shut down, but then, the only way to power it back on once I've done that, is to plug it in, like jump starting it. Battery works fine, I don't need to keep it plugged in otherwise, and once it's started, I can unplug the cable, maybe have it plugged in for a second at most. I've disabled anything that I can find that points towards Wake On Lan settings in both BIOS and both operating systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:09 PM PST I have not updated my software and I suspect that is the issue. I was texting and my touch screen just stopped working. I was unable to turn the phone off and had to force quit. I force quit and can't get the phone back on because the touch screen won't respond for me to enter my passcode. Any ideas? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 06:50 PM PST The issue is only with chrome and occasionally internet explorer. I have looked up what to do but nothing has helped. I have a 7700k + 1070 so there shouldn't be any problems there. Any advice on what to do? [link] [comments] |
CCleaner duplicate file finder feature - content Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:38 PM PST I would like some help with a feature of CCleaner Free (version 5.25.5902 - 64 bit). In regards to its Duplicate File Finder Match by Content feature. Hows does this program do this? By Hashing the files and comparing it by the Hash? If possible, what hash does it use? Back story- I recovered lots of photos from a friend's HDD that crashed. And some files might have the same file name but of course be a different picture and the software recovery program Stellar Phoenix is dumping all the Jpegs in one folder, all the PNGs in another, and so on. Just to make sure I get all the files I'm allowing the program Stellar to rename the file if it finds one already with the same name in the destination folder. The program Stellar renames it. Like so, photo1-copy 1.jpeg photo2-copy2.jpeg. So in order to save my friend some hassle, I would like to make sure there are no repeat photos (files) by finding exact duplicates using what I think its the best method by comparing the Hash. Thanks for the feedback. Or I welcome any other suggestions for programs that do this. I have Windows 10 64-bit. [link] [comments] |
I fucked up, and now I have viruses on my PC that I can't remove. Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:35 PM PST Not going into details, but I downloaded a shady program and I let it run. It didn't take long for me to be like 'k no fuck this' But it was too late, and too much damage had been done. I cut off the program, and immediately I noticed several viruses on my PC. I closed them down, and I went around looking. I deleted some of them as best I could, and I removed certain things. It didn't take long to notice the extent of the damage, as I literally heard an AD from my desktop, and windows defender was literally all shut down (and gives an error on attempted restart) Anyways, I've spent the better part of the day looking for ways to fix this. So far I've removed several programs by killing the processes and deleting all the related folders surrounding them, and so far I've narrowed it down a lot. I disabled services, which then allowed me to kill some of the tasks and remove the bad files. But theres a small bit left, which I'm sure is the one causing the biggest problems like windows defender being shut down, and it's super hard coded to not let it be accessed at all. I get access denied whenever I try ending any of the processes or removing/viewing the directories. I tried doing all sorts of things to remove the folders and stop the processes in CMD using forced taskkill, I used pskill, and I used Psexec to open up a localsystem CMD and doing del or taskkill there, and every time it's saying "access denied" AND I've seen them in both my appdata\local folder and my System32 folder. I thought of reinstalling windows, and seeing if I can rescue my partition with the games I have (the important stuff), since it looks untouched. I have no idea what to do. I have no idea what I'm doing. pls help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:15 PM PST Looking at the Linux style permissions (powershell+'ls'), the root user has full control and other users just have read/execute. I can read and execute but not write, so clearly it doesnt see me as root. Unfortunately, I dont think the root user that set it up exists anymore (when i moved to win10 I did a clean install). So far Ive tried:
In each case, the operation initially appears to be a success, but then when I move to something else and move back it shows the original files completely untouched (presumably this causes it to actually re-load data from the filesystem instead of just assuming the operation worked as intended). The only thing I havent tried is changing permissions with chmod in linux, and that is only because my WSL/ubuntu doesnt seem to want to recognize it (and yes, I have the exFAT utility programs installed - there is just nothing showing up in /dev/ to mount). Anyone have any ideas? I'd love to be able to fix it, since it seems to be mostly working properly. Thanks. . PS: A couple quick extra notes: 1) The same write behavior (writing initially seems successful, then the old files reappear) happens when it is plugged into the andriod tablet that has been its home for a ~5 years. 2) Using TestDisk (which is truely a fantastic little program), I can see that the current boot sector doesnt quite match the backup on file. Both are labeled as "OK", but there are 3 hexadecimals that arent the same. Unfortunately, like all the other writes, overwriting the boot sector with the backup doesnt stick. [link] [comments] |
PC won't post after trying to replace heatsink, need advice. Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:09 PM PST Tried to replace my sister's heatsink in her pc today; after realizing the CPU was stuck to it I put it back into the socket and now the PC won't post. No beeps from the speaker, but everything comes on such as the fans, drives, etc. Onboard video and graphics card will not display, only black comes up. I tried two different monitors as well as HDMI and VGA connectivity. Only thing I might be positive about is the fact that some of the CPU pins bent after removing it, I will try to fix them but if that doesn't work will I need to order a new CPU? Just want to know for sure. [link] [comments] |
Microsoft Dynamics CRM add-in crashes Outlook Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:00 PM PST Details: * We use Dynamics online, O365, and an on-prem Exchange server. Windows 10 environment. * The add-in almost always disables upon opening Outlook. * We have discovered that the add-in really doesn't play well with the GoToMeeting add-in. * We haven't yet rebuilt the user's Outlook profile, but we have removed other add-ins and uninstalled and reinstalled the application. We also haven't turned on the trace logs. I am getting desperate as the user hounds me on a weekly basis and tells her manager that she's "crippled" without this feature. I'm honestly at my wit's end with this stupid add-in as most users in the company frequently report problems with it. As an organization we insist on using it with our current setup and without our exchange server directly linked to the online Dynamics CRM. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Pioneer Elite VSX-45 - Can't access system menu Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:03 PM PST I got a used Pioneer Elite VSX-45 from a friend. It was working fine before he unplugged it, but he has no idea the last time he tried to access the system menu. When you press the system menu/home button, the receiver will display "Please wait..." and the same message will appear on screen. After a few seconds the message will disappear from both. What I've tried:
I downloaded the firmware update but I cannot seem to find a way to begin the update without accessing the system menu. If anyone has experience with this problem and can help I'd be very grateful! [link] [comments] |
Can't find boot partition in bios Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:46 AM PST Hello, I'm having an issue and I dont really know where else to post about it. I've bought an external USB seagate HDD that I made a partition on and loaded a windows installation (Because I reinstall windows quite often). It took a lot of troubleshooting but finally I got it to a state that its bootable. the only problem now is when I try find the partition on boot startup it only shows the full external drive, and when i click on it, it doesnt recognize the boot partition. Just says there is no OS media on this drive. Is there anyone thats tried this before and had any luck? [link] [comments] |

laptop cant detect any bluetooth devices Posted: 13 Jan 2018 10:00 PM PST Hello I'm using a XiaoMi laptop running on Windows 10. I recently bought a XiaoMi bluetooth mouse to go with it, but when I turned on the bluetooth my computer cant detect the mouse, while my iPhone was able to.
