My friend's swollen MacBook Pro 13" A1706 battery after 3 years of use! First time taking apart a MacBook and the battery was a royal pain to take off, but plastic card and alcohol worked great! After taking it off I gave her a souvenir with the battery controller IC board!

HP laptop - uninstalled Synaptic Touchpad and cannot reinstall it again.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:22 PM PDT

This happened this morning. I turned on my laptop but couldn't see my cursor or use my touchpad for anything. Went on YouTube where someone suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad driver. I uninstalled it and attached an external mouse. Then I went on HP's website to download the driver. The problem is that I have downloaded all the versions but my device says that the OS doesn't support this. What should I do?

Asus Zephyrus G14 or Lenovo Legion 5?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 05:34 AM PDT

I'm a student and I do mild gaming (I.e Valora t) My BUDGET is around 1000£/1400$

I just sold my pc since I'll be travelling and looking forward to buy a laptop for academic and mild gaming purposes.

The Legion and G14 are the laptops that I am interested in but unsure on which one to get, I've also looked into the Omen 15 and Nitro 5.

The battery life and display matters alot to me more than the build quality if that helps.

    Laptop

I've been looking around for a solid laptop for college. Found this one in a nearby Office Depot and it's only $400. I tried it out and it felt really solid all around but wanted to make sure I couldn't get any better deals.

Asus Zenbook randomly shuts down, holding power button for 10 sec needed

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:58 PM PDT

    Hi,

so I am having this issue with my Zenbook. If not being used for a while, it sometimes randomly shuts down and I have to hold the power button for 10 sec to boot it up again. Weird thing is, that the power light on the side flashes, as if it was in the sleep mode. My laptop is 3 days after a professional service, got cleaned and everything, that should prevent overheating, but it keeps happening. Please help...

Edit: I forgot to mention, this error was happening before I put it in the repair shop, it didn't happen to them even once, they said. It was there couple of weeks, because they were also replacing the display cable....

What’s the best laptop I can buy with my budget

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:56 PM PDT

I mainly plan on using this laptop for viewing videos and maybe watching movies. I don't plan on doing anything other then that. Maybe some school work. I want something with a long battery life and with a good screen since I will be watching shows with it as a main use. My budget is 1,200 $.

    Thanks :)

LG Gram 16” vs Dell XPS 15

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:47 PM PDT

Looking at these two laptops. Leaning towards the 16" LG Gram as I used to have an XPS 13 and didn't have a good experience with it (overheated, screen flickering etc.)

Both models would have similar specs as I'm looking at i7 10/11 gen 16gb ram 1 TB ssd

Any major considerations? I'm getting the laptop for personal use and some work (Heavy Excel)

    Screen Panel and hinge problem

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:58 AM PDT

A small plastic part came off a hinge on which the screen rotates. The back plate of that panel which has the logo and the black panel which encases the actual screen is seperating at the hinge. The fixed part or the support of the hinge rests on the back plate and I think the small part kept the black panel and the back plate together which now isn't there so they seperate. Any solutions?

    College Laptop

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:29 PM PDT

Hello, I was looking for a laptop for college, just something useful I guess. Um, I already have my own pc, so I was looking for something a lot more portable and usable in-class. Price-wise I was hoping to find something sub-$700, overall just a good deal that can fulfill the basic college necessities.

    Gaming laptop

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:24 PM PDT

I'm looking at getting an Alienware Area-51M R2 (the 1 TB version) to do mainly gaming and a little bit for my comp sci major (but I have another laptop for that mainly) so I guess my question is, is this a good/great gaming laptop? My budget is 2k but I'm willing to add to it for this one if it's worth it cause I just really love to game and I am not settled enough for a console/desktop. I mainly play Minecraft, COD, Witcher, Sims4, and other stuff like that.

Student looking for laptop suggestion ($1000-$1500 USA)

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:47 AM PDT

Hello! I am a student going into college, and I am in the market for a new laptop. Previously, my school provided every student with a device that I used throughout high school, but since graduation I have been using my mothers discarded Acer laptop. Though it gets the job done, I am ready for an upgrade. I will mainly just be using this for school and gaming, but I have heard warnings against "gaming-laptops" for fear of them being loud or overheating. That is why I wanted to ask some more knowledgeable members of the laptop community their recommendations:

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1000-$1500 USA (But don't be afraid to mention something outside of my price range because I am open to learning ow realistic all of these factors are)
    • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, Build Quality, Battery Life Form-Factors (I would prefer to NOT get a 2-in-1 because I have had one before and I do not want to pay for a feature I won't use)
    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Average importance (sure it would be nice to be thin and light, but I am not dead set on it and would mostly likely use it as a tie-breaker)
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will have some of the Creative Cloud Programs like photoshop and Lightroom, and I play Minecraft pretty regularly.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? My dream is to be able to play Minecraft with a texture pack and shaders without lagging.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'm really looking for a touchscreen if possible or something that has a good amount of ports so I would not have to worry about running out. I would also like something that can support a second (or third) monitor and can handle running a game, twitch, and discord (though my current crusty laptop seems to handle that, so I am not too worried).
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. What I am really looking for is decent computer aspects because I will most likely use whatever laptop I get with a second monitor when possible. Finally, I am most likely not looking for an Apple or Chromebook computer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and help me out!

Whats your experience with the hp envy x360 13? Should I buy it? How does it compare to similar or more expensive models.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:46 AM PDT

HI guys, I wanted to buy a new laptop and I found the the Hp envy x360 13 (2020)a really good option for me. It is really great for me cause it is the perfect balance between power and versatility, i want a balanced 2 in 1 which i will use for everything :from video editing and light gaming (minecraft) to school work and I want it to hold up well for at least 5 years. I want to buy the ryzen 7, 16 GB,512GB, 13 inch model from the Hp store.

I have found other similar laptops but im very confused if they are any better. I found the dell inspiron 14 2 in 1 5410, which has a dedicated graphics card, which would make it more powerful for games, but I haven't found a lot of reviews and I have seen the display and battery arent that great. I can spend more than 1100 dollars and may even invest in a 1800 dollars laptop if it is really necessary such as the lenovo yoga 9i or the msi summit e13 flip evo.

So, what is your experience with the envy? Should i buy it? What about the other models I mentioned?

Would an i9 be significantly better than an i7 in the Dell XPS 17?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:06 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying the new model of the XPS 17 as my school/personal laptop. I'd be using it for engineering programs, as well as music production software and some light gaming (the most graphically intensive game I have is No Man's Sky). I'm willing to shell out for this since I'm planning on having it for a long time, but I don't want to spend extra money on things that would have minimal benefits, so my question is, would getting the i9 CPU instead of the i7 give me a significant boost in performance, or would the effect be barely noticeable? Alternatively, if you think the XPS 17 isn't a good choice, I'm open to suggestions for other laptops.

    Water vapor concern

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 10:26 AM PDT

Recently, i applied a screen protector on this laptop (flow x13). I followed Mrwhosetheboss's instructions on how to apply a screen protector. I followed his tip on how to prevent dust from falling on the screen by doing it in the bathroom with hot water running. Two days after i've done it, I realized that water vapor could possibly go through the vents. Can laptops handle this humidity? It is working fine right now but should I unscrew it to find any water in it? It wasn't in the bathroom for more than 5 minutes after water vapor started forming on my mirrors.
