Can't login to Microsoft Account after updating Windows

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 02:51 PM PST

I updated my windows and when I tried to log back in, I was given an error message saying "your device is offline. please sign in with the last correct password used on this password". The thing is that I've always logged in with the same password, and I verified that it was still correct by logging out and back into my Microsoft account online. Also, internet access at the login screen is limited no matter how I connect the internet (ethernet, wifi, usb tethering), so I can't reset my Microsoft password there. Please help thanks!

    THINGS I'VE TRIED:

    • System restore (no restore points)

    • I've created an admin account via troubleshoot cmd which I can login to, but I'm not too sure what I can do with that

How do I see all the media on my PC that can be viewed on other devices and prevent it from being shared?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 07:28 AM PST

A while ago I set up file sharing on my laptop to view my videos and music on my Xbox. However I've noticed that on any network I connect to my laptops files are visible to everyone without any need for a password/approval.

When I connect to my laptop from the TV I have the option to access 4 folders - Music, Pictures, Playlists and Videos. Upon going to Pictures and then 'all pictures' I was horrified to see a number of embarrassing photos I had taken of myself using my laptops webcam and then deleted from my PC and the recycle bin. I can't find these anywhere on my computer and would very much like to find and delete these to avoid future embarrassment. Is there a way I can view all of these and delete them?

In terms of the network sharing I've gone to advance sharing settings in control panel and switched Network discovery off for both private and guest profiles however the smart TV in the living room can still connect to and view all my media. Is there something else I need to do to prevent this?

    Windows 10 Taskbar Issues

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 01:06 PM PST

My taskbar is seems to be completely broken:

    • As I hover over it, there is a loading wheel that goes on forever

    • My applications that I put on my taskbar are missing (the only thing that is there is the windows logo and time/date which does not change unless I press the windows key to refresh it)

    • When in full-screen playing games, the taskbar does not disappear which is really irritating because I can't play certain games because of it)

What should I do? Have any of you experienced similar issues?

    Need help with updates

The update doesn't seem to want to work for me. Any suggestions?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 01:27 PM PST

As the title reads, the update just does wanna work for me. It's been failing for almost two months now, and the same error keeps popping. It downloads, restarts, acts like it's working, then rolls back the version. The image is the error that I keep getting. I've tried using the Windows Update Assistant, running it from an ISO, etc. Thanks in advance for any help!

I want to create a CD that install files on a specific folder... Which software to use?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 01:26 PM PST

I want to create a CD with pictures for my relatives (older people). I want then to insert the CD on their computers and then an executable will create a folder in the Desktop called Pictures and then it will copy all the pictures from the CD into that folder.

    Any software to do this?

File Explorer in Blue Troubleshoot crashing while in “users” folder

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 05:51 PM PST

I'm in a situation where I have to backup my files without going into windows. So I have to go into the blue troubleshoot's cmd to open notepad, then use the save feature to move files into a flash drive. I can currently move any file that I want. However, whenever I enter the "users" folder or scroll all the way down to the bottom of the c drive folder the file explorer crashes along with notepad. (the crash always happens around 2 seconds after the "users" folder is opened (all contents of users is still there it just crashes before I can do anything)) (cmd does not crash)

Other Info: Only one user on laptop "No previous version of windows present" ASUS Laptop GPU: GTX 850m CPU: Intel i7 Windows 10

Trying to launch Steam with elevated privileges on boot/login

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 01:01 AM PST

But although I've followed several guides it doesn't seem to work. I'd appreciate any help from someone who has done this with a similar program.

I login with a standard user but run programs with admin. This is why I would like this.

Any help would be appreciated and if not, merry Christmas anywho.

    Need guidance managing data usage.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 08:18 AM PST

I need to connect my laptop to the internet. The only way for me to do this is to use my androids internet connection via wifi Hotspot.

As you probably guessed, it's a monthly subscription with a very small data cap. This means I need to be able to strictly control data usage of apps and the system generally.

I know of the the "metered connection" setting but I don't think that this alone gives me sufficient control.

Now on my android, apps like AFwall+ and NoRoot Data Firewall give me the kind of straightforward, per-app control that I need. I tried using the Windows Firewall but it just has me confused.

Please, how can I easily block all apps and programs from accessing the internet except for those I specifically want to use?

Headset Microphone not working and not showing up in the audio devices screen.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 04:19 AM PST

There's nothing wrong with my mic. Tested on other pc, worked. With that out of the way, something's not right. When I plug in my headset's Microphone and Listening jack, I can't use the microphone. Tested out in Steam's mic testing feature, absolutely nothing. It also doesn't show up in the audio devices screen. The only "alternative" I did was plug out my Mic Jack, utilizing my PC's mic. Problem is, it detects everything, and if I smack my hand on the table, it registers, and just about everything I do.

(I don't know if this will be helpful, but eh idk.) A few details/odd things I noticed from following online help about my issue. 1. I don't have any sound drivers under the Device Manager's Sound and Microphone thing. 2. Under normal circumstances, the headset's microphone should appear in the audio devices screen, but mine doesn't. Only shows the standard "Microphone" and "Stereo Mix". No "Line in" or "Headset" (which I assume is any external plug in's)

How can I get Windows 10 to stop wanting to download itself?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 10:34 AM PST

My laptop is a windows 7 and I'm perfectly content with it. For the past few weeks every time I turn it on I get this popup/message telling me that it wants to do security updates but in order to do so it needs to download windows 10. At first I was like, 'Okay. whatever. Do what you want' but then I'll get a message that says it wasnt able to download and the whole damn routine starts all over again-- I turn out my laptop, I get a message telling me it wants to download windows 10, ext., ext.

I just want that to stop.

Windows 10, DHCP-Client error causing my PC to lock up after update

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 02:12 AM PST

I'm not sure if this is caused by the update or not but its only happened since the day I updated to 16299.125. My PC works fine but will randomly lock up, sometimes it'll be twice a day, sometimes once a week. It totally freezes and the only way to stop it is to hold down the power button.

Why did all of my symlinks just break?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2017 08:51 PM PST

I use symlinks (mklink /D) to move steam games from my SSD to my HDD to free up space. This worked perfectly until today when all of my links suddenly broke. When I try to use them windows says "C:/Blah is unavailable." Is there any reason that this happened and any way to prevent it in the future?

I know this question is pretty hard to answer without more info, but I'm mostly wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if they stopped it from happening again.
