convert broken hp envy spectre xt into a compact desktop Posted: 17 Jan 2020 08:37 AM PST So after paying for an HP technician to fix hinges, I decided to dump the laptop, but i recently came upon NUCs- was thinking i could take the components out and put it in an enclosure- no sense wasting the components.

What’s a good quiet laptop for general productivity stuff? ~$1000 USD Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:01 AM PST I already have a couple desktop PCs for gaming and whatnot but I need a laptop for things like MS Word and browsing the internet. I know a lot about computer parts but not that much about the current lineup of laptops on the market. [link] [comments]
Quick Question about a cable (Mini USB to USB ) Posted: 17 Jan 2020 01:05 PM PST I have a USB hub, but it uses a mini USB cable. I am looking for a converter cable where I can plug in the mini-USB and convert to regular USB. I found this on Best Buy's website, but I am not sure if it will work. They say this is for car connections. But cables are cables, right? (I have 10 free bucks for BB and am trying to spend it somehow) The 12v/10 amps of power thing should not wreck my laptop (That's what I am plugging this into), right? " Compatible with select 2010 and later vehicles Including select Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, GMC and Jeep makes and models for use with your existing vehicle. 8" USB-to-Female USB mini Allows you to connect your compatible device to your vehicle. USB adapter wiring harness Retains the OE USB for optimal performance. Includes under-dash mount For easy installation. 12V/10 amps of power Delivers ample power for your devices." Starting school in a week, I need laptop recommendations Posted: 17 Jan 2020 01:00 PM PST I start school on the 27th of this month and I have 2 online classes. I dont have access to the computer at home so I need to get a laptop in order to do my schooling. My online classes are "child development" and "prenatal, infant and toddler development", so I will be watching videos and typing up reports on the videos. I need a LT that has good video/sound quality and is, generally speaking, fast. I dont know my price range, just looking for all recommendations at this point. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:12 AM PST Last nigh my Windows start button on my my laptop was working up till is this morning. I have tried multiple things to get the start menu to show up when you hit the start button but nothing is working. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Laptop with TrackPoint or Buttons Below Keyboard not Lenovo Posted: 17 Jan 2020 12:51 PM PST I'm looking for a laptop with a trackpoint or buttons below the keyboard. I don't really need a trackpoint but they have the extra set of buttons that are below the keyboard but above the touchpad so I don't have to contort my arms to reach the ones at the bottom if they even exist. I know Lenovo has them, but I don't want another of those for various reasons. Was hoping to stay under $750, but will consider any with this setup since I'm having a hard time finding them and just want to see what's out there. [link] [comments]
Choosing a laptop for grad school - writer Posted: 17 Jan 2020 12:48 PM PST So like the title says. I'm going to Grad school for creative writing. I need a laptop, and my metrics are basically this: Battery - 8+ hours. (ACTUALLY) 8 + hours. Screen - Good please? Bright? Keyboard - Mechanical feeling. Speed. My current laptop is 5 years old, takes forever to turn on / load, and literally lags from a 400 page word document. ATM I'm deciding between: 1) Lenovo Thinkpad E590 (8gb ram, 256 SSD, i5 8265U). 2) Microsoft Surface Go (the 256GB SSD version for $550). 3) A reasonable MAC laptop. Again. I really just want something that's fast (no lag), has a good screen and battery, and is pleasant to type on. And my max budget is 1k, but as you can see my options are all around $650 atm. Suggestions? [link] [comments]
How Much to sell a used (newish) laptop for? 17" Lenovo y740 i7-8750H rtx2080 Posted: 17 Jan 2020 12:34 PM PST I'm considering selling my Lenovo Y740 that I bought last year. My circumstances have changed and I'm doing a lot more traveling than before, and this beast is not the best for that. Here is an Amazon link for the same machine. Specs are: 17" Lenovo Y740 i7-8750H RTX2080 MaxQ 16GB Ram 512gb NVME 3 years Lenovo Premium warrenty. (It's transferable, just checked) I paid around 1900 with tax and all that jazz in June. I know I'm not going to be getting close to that, but is something like $1400 possible? I'm not finding any used on CL or Ebay so I don't really have a price to go off. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 12:32 PM PST So I have a gaming pc for all my major stuff. But I'm looking for a new laptop for uni this year. Somewhere between NZ$1000 and NZ$1500. I Just want something that's snappy and opens all applications fast. Has good battery life. Maybe can handle some light games and Adobe suite stuff (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, AE, Etc). Preferably windows but also happy to go for a Mac. [link] [comments]

Is an Acer Nitro 5 i5-7300hq GTX1050 worth $400 assuming pristine used condition? Posted: 17 Jan 2020 11:42 AM PST Ebay suggests a few people pay that much. I don't play any new games. Fallout New Vegas is the fanciest game I play. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:50 AM PST So I don't work with graphics or play games on the laptop. But I still want that nvme drive and less than 10 seconds boot. I want the immediate applications start like photoshop and visual studio 2019. And make these long programmatic long loops fast. What laptops would you recommend, I don't want a high end or even medium gpu. My thought is that the price I pay will provide better cpu and other things if I ignore the gpu. [link] [comments]
Replace laptop speakers with decent ones? Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:19 AM PST I have an Acer One 10 S1003 bought second-hand at a very good price and I like to use this little convertible to watch some videos. One thing I'm not happy with, however, is its speakers. The audio output is low. I mean, very low. At max volume I can only hear decently in a completely quiet room, and it's totally unacceptable. Some dubs on Netflix are already low and that makes them unusable. I understand that there are other solutions like an external bluetooth speaker, but I don't want to hassle with it, charging it, bringing it with the laptop etc. I was wondering if it was possible to replace the internal speaker with something a little more powerful. These should be the standard ones: https://www.impextrom.com/en/right-and-left-speakers-for-acer-one-10-s1003-11mt-p1000028959 Where can I find a pair of speakers like these but more powerful? Their size should not be a problem, since smartphones have even smaller speakers and are way louder than this machine. [link] [comments]
Buying a pre-owned custom build macbook pro 13" Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:20 AM PST Good Day r/laptops I live in South Africa, and a private reseller (not apple authorized) has a custom build 2019 macbook pro 13" (i7/16GB RAM/512GB SSD), warranty is valid until November 2020 and is registered on apples serial number website. This macbook was purchased in the US, as we (South Africa) can't get the custom build macbooks (like adding an i7 or more ram) Thing is, the reseller has no receipt/original box, just the charger/macbook, and he has no way of getting the original invoice as I think he lost contact with the previous owner he bought it from to resell~ I have confirmed though that it's honored in South Africa for warranty (as its an international warranty) but no clue if I need a receipt or not. The guy is also a pretty legit reseller and has tons of good reviews under his name. I really would love to buy this macbook, but need clarification on how will no receipt affect the warranty, etc. And also what things do you guys think I need to do to check that the macbook is in 100% working condition before I take it? TIA! [link] [comments]

Hello I need an advice my laptop battery is dead Posted: 17 Jan 2020 12:29 AM PST Well I don't know where to buy an original laptop battery and which website I could trust can someone please help me ? Thanks you [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 03:51 AM PST (SOLVED) Hi guys, I'm trying to extend my brothers laptop display over two monitors so there will be 3 screens in total. I asked the guy at the store and he said the USB-C port would be able to do that with a dongle but when I tried it out it only the mouse and keyboard worked, the monitors would not display when connected to the dongle. This led me to believe the port didn't actually do display. What I'm wondering is if connecting it to a docking station via USB 3 would work or if I'd run into the same issue again. I don't want to be spending a ton of money unnecessarily. [link] [comments]

In the need for advice. 500 vs 1000 euros laptop. Durability. Posted: 17 Jan 2020 05:57 AM PST Hi guys, Thing us that I have purchased a new laptop in a flash deal in a famous spanish shop (i'm spanish). I had my old toshiba satellite u300 for almost 13 years. It is still running, but though I changed the hdd for the ssd, and now has 4gb ram, the years and the core 2 duo t7100 cannot keep well with some tasks. So with deepest sorrow, I decided to look for a new laptop. Here is the problem. Should I go for a 500 euros laptop with a low gpu, and lower consumption cpu like the i5 U series, or should I invest money in a powerful pc to make it last for years? Right now the laptop I purchased that is arriving home is a lenovo legion y540 with i7 9750h and rtx 2060. 16gb ram 512 gb ssd. Is way more than I need since I play on my switch and ps4, and I will just play very casually, and use it for other things. So summarizing. Will the 1000 euros pc last the double of a 500 euros pc, that I will be able to switch in 4 years for another one of 500 euros? Is a powerful cpu from 5 years ago worse or better than a cheap cpu nowadays? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
