Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:20 PM PST I got an external disk drive to watch some old DVD movies, and whenever I insert a DVD, it doesn't recognize them as movies, and just shows all the individual files. My surface pro didn't have this problem. My computer runs windows 10. My surface ran 8.1. Anyone know how to fix this? I have a media player, driver, etc installed. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:58 PM PST I have a surface pro, and when I turn it on, it gets stuck on the surface logo. It usually takes about a day and a half to fully boot up. It then works normally from there. I've been having this issue ever since I dropped the surface, cracking the corner of the screen. This problem showed up the day after and has been happening ever since. It runs windows 8.1. It is a surface pro 3. [link] [comments]
Laptop won’t start and I have midterms tomorrow Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:44 AM PST Currently trying not to freak out about this issue. HP Envy model 15m-bp012dx I've tried to restart my computer multiple times. Originally it would just get stuck on a loop of the HP splash loading screen. Now when I try to power up I get the message "Preparing Automatic Repair" before it tells me to please wait and then goes black. I've also tried some troubleshooting things that I've seen online including trying a system recovery, but even that won't go through. What should I try next? I really need to fix this because I don't have access to any other computer for the rest of the day. [link] [comments]
How can I change default storage drive on windows 10? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:04 AM PST Hey, I have my C drive set as "main" but I'd prefer to change it to the D drive. Already tried changing build in windows settings to set default storage drive but sadly it didn't do much. When trying to install an app it again did show that it will be installed on C drive. Is there any other way or some software apps just have hard coded default location on C drives? [link] [comments]
Audio crackled followed by a BSOD Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:53 PM PST This occasionally happens, about once a month. I'm watching a YouTube video, and the audio starts crackling (starts and stops every fraction of a second). After a few minutes of this, there is a BSOD. The computer is a Lenovo Ideapad 110. What is the best way to install drivers? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:50 AM PST I've got an HP 255 G7 and I don't know wheteher it's best to immediately connect to the internet after installing Windows and let windows update install the drivers for me or download and install the drivers from HP's website before connecting to the internet. I'm asking because the former is easier and saves a lot of time. [link] [comments]
WUFUC not fixing "unsupported hardware" any longer? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:03 AM PST I built a new desktop pc with an Intel G4560 and Windows 8.1. I've used WUFUC in the past on other PCs to good effect. On this new PC though, I grab the newest version, run the install.bat as admin, reboot, and still get the unsupported hardware popup. Is this a known issue now? Not really sure what else to do or try at this point. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:41 AM PST Hi all, thanks in advance for helping me thru this. My computer has been doing the ol' "No internet, secured" thing. I can connect to these networks on other devices and I've had the issue on multiple networks. This problem began persisting after a VPN I had expired, but I disabled it completely. I'm not completely sure these two things are connected, but it seems relevant. Thanks for helping me figure this out. Ive done all the things I can by myself (restart computer, turn on and off WiFi lol) so I just need a little more expert help. [link] [comments]
Is this advice I got in a DM good advice? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST you must always update your windows is a marketing tactic by microsoft. the windows updates can patch some security holes in windows but often they do more harm than good. also windows updates cannot protect you from getting viruses and malware. a good antivirus with firewall program and you being careful will protect you there are many people who love microsoft and they will tell you that you must continuously update or else you will face a serious security threat. that's garbage. you do what is best for you. if you feel that you need to update then do so. if you dont want to then dont i disabled the windows updates service on my laptop a couple of months ago because i didnt want to get forced to upgrade to 1903. if you want then you can also disable the windows updates service by using a program called sledgehammer. get it from https://www.ghacks.net/2019/04/28/control-windows-updates-with-sledgehammer-formerly-wumt-wrapper-script/. run it, wait for it to say that updates have been disabled and then exit. if you want you can continue and you will get the update manager and you can pick which updates to install and which ones to hide [link] [comments]
Reading from a USB HID device that behaves like a keyboard Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:28 AM PST Hello, I am trying to read the input from a barcode scanner that behaves like a keyboard using the hidapi (https://github.com/signal11/hidapi). Apparently the OS does not allow me to access the scanner because it behaves like a keyboard and for security reasons the OS owns all the keyboard and mice devices. The manufacturer of this barcode scanner does not provide any drivers. Is there a way to prevent the OS from owning this barcode scanner or maybe a way to turn it into a serial port and read from it? In case there is no workaround for this, does anyone know a cheap barcode scanner that does not behave like a keyboard so that I can use the hidapi to access it? Or how can I know that a barcode will not behave like a keyboard? It is a very specific question that most sellers don't know how to reply. Thanks. [link] [comments]
From ethernet PC to miracast device (MS-MICE), How to? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:23 AM PST I have a PC, connecting to my home network via ethernet. I have a Laptop (the miracast device), connecting to same network (same router) via Wi-fi. How do I project my PC to my laptop? There's no "Connect to wireless display" in project menu of my PC. And base on the MS-MICE documentation, I should be able to do so? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-hub/miracast-over-infrastructure Thanks for asking - The laptop CAN BE projected to from other device, if that device is connected to same network via WiFi. Whether they talk between themselves through the router or WiFi Direct I do not know. ** I'll repeat my question - How do I troubleshoot when, on my PC, the connect to wireless display option is missing. ** Thank you. Can installation media be created on an external USB hard disk? (not flash drive) How to? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:20 AM PST The MS media creation tool webpage and all guides I see talk about USB flash drives but never external USB hard drives. Isn't it possible? One may not have a flash drive, but have a USB hard drive. If possible, how or link to a guide appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]
