New laptop for coding and netflix Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:40 PM PDT
Aiming at $1000, but my last laptop has lasted ~6 years, so I'm okay spending a bit more for quality.
I don't want 2 in 1 form factor. Specifications is probably more important to me than battery life.
Fairly. I like the weight, build quality, and style, of XPS 13/15s. I am having trouble finding one in the exact configuration I want though.
Open to any, I will just run vmware if it's anything other than linux. Windows makes a decent host machine since some of the "fun" programs that aren't work related need it.
4k, or talk me out of it if you think that's dumb. 13" or 15", but I'm leaning towards 13.

Build quality is probably my #1 consideration.
I want 16gb ram, preferably ddr4. [link] [comments] |
NL, max ~500 euros. Laptop for student use (mostly just text editing and such) Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:27 AM PST
The Netherlands. Preferably <500 euros, but I could potentially go up to 1k if there's a very convincing argument.
I mostly need portability. I don't intend to use it for gaming, because that's what desktops are for.
Very.
Windows or Chrome OS both seem fine.

Nope.
Nope.
Nothing in particular? I did like the pen in the Pixelbook, but that one's very expensive and I'm not sure if that's worth it to me.
So I'm looking for something portable for university work. I doubt I'll be doing much more than just text editing, maybe a powerpoint or whatever (or google slides or whatever it's called, you get the idea). I've never owned a laptop before so I'm very lost. [link] [comments] |
~$1500 AUD Budget. VR Gaming, non-VR gaming and game development. Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:57 AM PDT Hi, My budget for this laptop is around $1500 AUD. I'll be using this for gaming, VR gaming and game development. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Which Macbook should I go for? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:16 AM PST I'm leaning towards the 13 inch models. Yet I don't know which processor should I go for? Most of my work is programming/app development and I would like it to be somewhat future proof (at least 5 years) since I'm paying big bucks. so the processor options are the 1.4 ghz i5 or 2.4 ghz i5 or 1.7 ghz i7 ( the last i7 option is outside my budget) [link] [comments] |

i5-9300H vs i7-9750H (Vídeo Editing / Streaming) Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:09 AM PST Hello /r/SuggestALaptop, I'm going to buy a laptop in next couple days and I'm unsure which processor I should go for. The laptop will be mostly used for video editing (1080p/60FPS) and maybe some streaming. The difference in price is 150€ and from the benchmarks I've seen the performance increase seems to about 40%, what do you guys think? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Help me pick between two laptop models Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:20 PM PDT Hey guys, I want to keep this short and simple, so I'll get straight to the point: I need a laptop for my university, and I'm stuck between two models (both of which are in my budget) that are inmediately available to me. I know there might be better laptops for lower prices, but considering I live in South America, I doubt I have nearly as many options when it comes to models. I'll be using the laptop for programming, reading PDF/ebooks and some light gaming on the go (and obviously the usual text editing among other things). So, the two laptops are:
The Acer one is roughly $50 more expensive than the Ideapad. I'm on the fence about this, since the A515 has a slightly worse CPU and an LCD screen, but it's 1080p (which'll come in handy while programming, reading, etc.) AND it has twice the storage (big difference). Which one would you guys pick? [link] [comments] |
Laptop for coding and 3d modeling Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:02 AM PST I'll start of with this: This is the laptop I found. for the specs, I think that this laptop is pretty cheap. I must have an I7 and most other I7's are 800+ but this one is 566.29 euros. Could someone tell my why this one is so cheap? Should I buy this one? What it should have: I7 Price: As cheap as possible (but no garbage computer. As you see, the one I found is 566,29 euros) Thank you [link] [comments] |
First Time Gaming Laptop Buyer Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:24 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $2000-$2500 Hawaii,USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight and thinness is important to me in the sense of finding a middle ground, not too big as to be heavy and cumbersome and not too small as to not have that good hardware or heating problems. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15-17 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'd like to try my hand in video and photo editing, maybe animation or music but gaming would probably be the primary use. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'd like 1080p 60fps for a majority of my games, maybe on occasion push the graphics to higher qualities depending on the game. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Keyboard and build quality would be nice, not sure what an optical drive is. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Any and all advice, suggestions, and guides would be much appreciated. I've heard some good things about MSI and the ASUS ROG Strix/Hero laptops so I may pick one of those. Thank you for reading. :) [link] [comments] |
Laptop for emulating and streaming movies Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:06 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm looking for a laptop that can run old emulated games decently well. (GBA-DS) And some old games such as Minecraft and The Walking Dead I'd also want to use it for Netflix and Hulu. It has to have Windows 10 and under $300. If it's well enough I'm willing to spend $350-400. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Gaming laptop suggestions under $1500 Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:27 PM PDT Looking for a gaming laptop that games likes Grimdawn, Fallout, Diablo, maybe the new Outerworlds at the most, would run well on. This is a laptop that my husband and I will use to switch off when the other one is playing on our desktop. He would also take it on deployments. I've looked into Prostar, but they seem to be a smaller company and I'm not sure how good they are besides having excellent customer service. Not sure how the Acer Predator compares or if anyone has one. Or any laptops by Asus or MSI. Mainly we're looking for the best performance for under $1500. The appearance or weight doesn't really matter to us. In the United States and we would prefer Windows. If we can purchase it off of amazon, that would be a plus. Not too concerned about audio quality or fan noise as we would be using headphones. [link] [comments] |

Surface Book 2: more RAM or better processor? Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:34 PM PDT I'm trying to choose between a Surface Book 2 from these two options:
I would be using the device for computer programming, school work, web browsing, and media consumption, and I wouldn't be using it for anything like gaming or photo/video editing. When I chatted with a Microsoft representative on the Microsoft website, they said that a better processor would help if I plan on running multiple applications at the same time. But I also just read an article saying that more RAM would be better if I wanted to run a VM when I'm coding. Microsoft sells these two models for the same price ($1799.10 w/ the student discount), so considering my situation, I wanted to know if it would be better for me to go for the higher RAM or the better processor with the dedicated graphics. Need a decent laptop for School and Basic excel worksheets. Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:03 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: In the US looking at something less than 500. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I'd like a decent battery life, and would prefer an SSD How important is weight and thinness to you? Fairly. I'd like for it to be thin. Don't want to carry a cinder block around. Which OS do you require? Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Decent build quality if possible, and an SSD. When it comes to excel worksheets I'm talking mainly about financial budgeting worksheets for myself. Not excel sheets that are too big. When it comes to college I'll be using it to write my papers. Not looking for anything too fancy. I like the look of the Asus vivobooks but they are too expensive. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:10 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking for a windows based ultrabook I can put in my backpack and go, a 13" or 14". Something I can take on holiday and continue to produce music with while away from my desktop/studio. I use Reason 11/Reaper for production and Ableton for performance. If I can squeeze in game of Witcher_3 as well that would make long flights so much better. Good battery life, good build quality and lite to carry is quite important. Looking at spending around $2500AU Thanks ! * **Total budget and country of purchase:** around $2500AU * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Good battery life / best quality CPU/RAM* **How important is weight and thinness to you?** something as lite as possible * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** windows 10 * * *Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13" or 14" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** no video editing, if I can play a little witcher_3 that would be great but not essential * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** witcher_3 at a playable level (not a gamer / have a decent desktop at home) * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Best CPU / 8-16G RAM / Good build quality * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** so far the razer 13" stealth looks like my favorite so far but I haven't actually touched one yet, and i don't really care about all the coloured lights. Build quality, good CPU and high amounts of RAM are the most important followed by battery life. I would like to keep this laptop for quite a few years and enjoy using it. **edit** the Acer Swift 5 14-inch i7-1065G7 specs look amazing for the money. Whats your opinion? THANKS! BG-What GPU should I look for while searching for a laptop around 800$ Posted: 02 Nov 2019 01:30 PM PDT After my previous laptop broke ( motherboard fried) i started looking at prices here and there. My initial budget was around 800 possibly 1000$ and there I mostly found laptops with 1050 TI, 1650 sometimes 1660 TI's and 1060's though most of them are on the pricier side. The problem though is that I don't live in the US, I live in Bulgaria, where in most stores the prices are 20% higher than those I find around reddit and in Amazon... So with that said my budget kinda gets dropped down to 700 - 800$ just because of the higher import taxes in my country... So at that range what GPU should I look for - I'd like it if the card was future - proof. Knowing that my hardware isn't going to be outdated in 3 years is always appreciated. I don't really play many demanding games but that's mainly because I presume that my card won't be able to handle it. TLDR: What GPU should I look for in a laptop in the 700-800 dollars range. Buying from Bulgaria. [link] [comments] |
NEED A LAPTOP TO PLAY PLANET COASTER/Z00 Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:25 PM PDT Hey, I have no clue about laptops and am a poor (emphasis on poor) college student in the US. My parents' bought me a Mac Pro for classes, but the games I want to play are not supported on that platform. I just was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on cheap laptops that would support Plant Coaster/Zoo. I don't have a ton of money, and do not even know what is a realistic price point for something like that. I don't know if there is anything even possible under $300 dollars; it just needs to play those 2 games. If anyone has a laptop suggestion or could let me know what the cheapest, realistic price would be, that would be great! Thanks everyone! (Or if there's a PC you'd recommend, that would hopefully work as well) [link] [comments] |
Laptop for 3rd year engineering student. Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:08 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I am purchasing in Canada and my budget is $1500 CAD. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Do not need 2-in-1 as I already have a Surface Go. Battery life is important. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I plan on bringing this to campus most days, so it must be decently portable. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Prefer windows, I plan on learning more programming so I may eventually dual boot with Linux. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** Prefer 14" and above. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I am a engineering student and I like to design and 3D print in my spare time. I often use Solid-works and Cura for example. I'm not confident that integrated graphics will be enough. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I don't have the chance to game during school, but I would like a thunderbolt 3 port with 4 lanes to have the option. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I want this laptop to last me through the remainder of my undergrad, along with and further education (Masters for example) so I want great build quality. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I currently have a Microsoft Surface Go and a custom built gaming desktop. I plan on selling the desktop, as I do not game too much anymore. The Surface Go is great for the most part, and I plan on keeping it for handwriting notes and homework, but the screen size can be limiting when I am on campus. [link] [comments] |
~1200 US $ Android Studio capable - with international warranty - laptop Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:17 PM PDT Hi! Sorry for my f'ed up english, to start. I'm trying to replace my old laptop. I have the intention and finally have the money to do so, but I can't find the right one. I spent so much time going to stores, researching and such... I wanted to work and play on it but can't find one that can (or I can't pay for it). So, to make things simple, I'll leave gaming for another device, like a budget gaming desktop or something. So this will be a working laptop and gaming will be kept as the lowest priority!
I think I need 32GB of RAM for Android Studio, a 256GB (at least) of SSD, an Intel quadcore (for the virtual machines), but that is up to your knowledge now! Thanks for any advice on this! [link] [comments] |
