Guess we know which one is going to be the Android phone of the year by most Youtubers

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:40 AM PDT

Just come from a 3T to a 7T - Good lord the differences are immense.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 02:56 AM PDT

The screen is clearer and more responsive. The speed of the damn phone is incredible and zips along no matter what I'm messing about with and the massive storage is great for storing a tonne of Spotify songs on there!

    I'm glad I stuck with 1+ that's for sure!

Can someone explain the tech for the alarm clock turning the phone on?

It's this something that is controlled by a server? Is the phone never truly off?

List of known compatible USB-C to HDMI adapters for OnePlus7 family (7/7T/Pro)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:17 PM PDT

Just trying to compile an updated list of compatible hubs/adapters that work, now that it's confirmed the 7 family can do HDMI output. The Google results are varied and/or forum links are broken. I know a lot of us will want to take advantage of this.

    Thanks.

Does anyone have a reasonable explanation to this? Look at the battery icon: it goes charge-dash charge-not charging over and over again. Idk what to do anymore, it just started doing this out of the blue. (OP5)

My first week with a OnePlus phone

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 12:57 PM PDT

After a week of living with my 7T Pro I thought I'd share some of my first impressions. Firstly a bit of background, for some of you this my sound familiar, this is my first One Plus after coming from a Pixel 2 XL and a Nexus 5x prior to that, both phones lasted me 2 years each and I was very happy with them. Full disclosure my intentions were to upgrade to the Pixel 4 even after all the underwhelming leaks I still thought it was the phone for me. My head was turned by 7 Pro earlier in the year but wanted to hold out for the Pixel 4.

Any way two largely unimpressive key notes (Google & OnePlus) I felt the 7T Pro was enough of an upgrade over the 7 Pro (and my Pixel 2 XL) for me. Placed my order on Amazon Prime and patiently waited it's arrival.

So after a week of using the phone I thought I'd share some of thoughts so far:

    Negatives

Fingerprint scanner - I've found that this seems to take 1/2 second longer than I was hoping and doesn't always unlock. In comparison to the Pixel 2 which had a rear scanner and seems instantaneous but also could be used to peak the notification drawer which I used alot.

Always on display - the Pixel had an always on display which I got used to and didn't need to interact with the phone to check the time or notifications

Call answering - this is a funny one but on stock Android OS you would swipe up to answer a call but with Oxygen OS it's down to accept the call. I've recjected a few calls by accident but I am sure I'll get used to it

Dust magnet - in the first few days I noticed that my screen was constantly covered in dust however since switching from the gel case that comes with the phone and started using the One Plus Nylon Bumper case its less of an issue

Phantom Restart - happened once, took my phone out my pocket and it was rebooting no idea why not happened since.

    Positives

Selfie-Cam - Had my hesitation about a mechanical pop-up cam as I felt it would be slow but the reality is that isnt the case. The movement is smooth and in time with the screen switching camera as well

Stock Camera App - I read up alot about the camera not being very good and how the Gcam mod is a must. Having installed the mod and used both apps I am more than happy with the stock camera app the quality of the photos are decent quality and the wide angle lens is great.

Oxygen OS - I really enjoyed the Pixel OS how clean it was so was concerned about switch to a new OS. However this has to be one of the best OS I have used. Obviously Android 10 is the base software but the native apps are clean and very similar to the Pixel OS. Most likely I'll fire up Nova Launcher at some point once I am ready to be creative.

Charging / Warp Charge - Wow. Just wow. Putting my phone on charge over night and within in an hour it's fully charged. I feel like I need to change my charging routine perhaps charging at my desk at work or something as it just feels wrong to leave it charging all night. Anyone know if this harms the battery?

All in all this is one of the best phones I have ever used and I am really pleased with it. Feel like I have only scratched the surface of it's capabilities in the first week. Would welcome any feedback or suggestions of apps I should be using to get more out of this phone.

    Thanks for reading

I have some doubts about the 7 Pro

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:09 PM PDT

Ok, so, I bought a OnePlus 7 Pro and it should be coming in the next few weeks, and I have some questions about it • is the Android 10 really harming the battery life? Can I install right out of the box without any fear? • is there a way for me to get the transparent navbar like in the iPhones? The white bar but without black or white backgrounds behind it • should I use adb or root to force always on 90 hz? Saw some people saying that this impacts in battery life

I think that's it, and just to remember, i'm open to root it if needed, I want to know if should I do the things I pointed and if there's a way of doing it. Thanks guys and sorry for my bad English writing, I'm not a native speaker.

Good sync app for Windows 10 and Oneplus 6T?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 06:24 PM PDT

Google Sync is the most unreliable POS ever. I had a phone crash so did a factory restore.. when I tried to restore it kept failing with the Google restore. It is garbage and since last Oneswitch backup was months ago I lost a lot of recent information.

I do not understand why Oneplus does not have a sync app for the PC so I am needing to get a reliable one that will sync my apps, contacts, messages and phone numbers that actually work unlike unreliable Google.

Any tips as to how to keep the navbar black, and why that LTE logo is so massive? I otherwise can't fault this phone (apart from no sound in slow mo and the awful camera circle guess lol). Excuse the screenshot but enjoy my sisters doggo, Mani.

No picture messages (send and receive) on Straight Talk wireless with global unlocked OP6...

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 04:51 PM PDT

I bought a global unlocked OnePlus 6 from Amazon and about 3 months in I stopped being able to send picture messages and the other day I stopped receiving them as well. I'm wondering what could be causing this? I tried to edit my APNs but it didn't do anything. It keeps saying "failed to download" or "failed to send" ... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What is OPIntelliService?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 02:33 PM PDT

I came across an interesting folder on my OnePlus 7 Pro called /data/connor_training. It seems to have a couple of database and Caffe model files. Searching for connor in the root directory, I found /system/app/OPIntelliService/lib/arm64/libConnor_oneplus.so.

Does anyone know what this app is? I can't find anything about it on Google.

Edit: there are related directories in /data/training also.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 01:43 AM PDT

I recently updated my 1+ 7 pro to Android 10.0.1 and have been hearing a lot of people saying to go for cache partition clear. I am not exactly clear on this topic so is it necessary? What are it's benefits? Can you lose data from it? And how exactly do you do it?

How does Amoled Screen Burn Work? Should I worry about it?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:41 AM PDT

So I've bought a OP 7 Pro just 1 month ago and I'm really paranoid about burn in.

I searched a lot about amoled technology and from what i read i assumed screen burn in it's not something recoverable. And I took all the security measures to not make it happen. Auto-brightness, screen timeout to 30s, AOD turned off, and i never leave a static image on my phone.

Today I noticed that when i plugged my phone and the colors screensaver started, the fingerprint icon left a visible mark like it was burned in. But it lasted only a couple seconds and then it disappeared. Same thing happens with the signal icon on the status bar.

So, is that screen burn in? And why is it recovering? Should I worry about it becoming permanent? I'm not even enjoying the damn phone anymore :c

Sorry for my english and thank you

First full day with the 7t, initial and battery impressions from a first time android user

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:09 PM PDT

    Tldr at the bottom.

Battery usage, Glacier Blue irl, Tinting issue: https://imgur.com/gallery/mhLB4Pq

    Battery impressions:

First, I would like to point out that I don't generally play games, so my battery life is not gonna be the same as someone who does.

    Things to consider

this is my very first Android came from a 6s

The main use for today is mostly listening to music, chatting, scrolling, and a little bit of youtube(< 1hr). And of course just messing around in the settings and home screen, trying out icons and other things.

For music I use a DAC, specifically, es100, connected through Bluetooth using LDAC codec

The phone is running on forced 90hz

Brightness is on auto, DC dimming is off and 90% of the time (probably) I was never over 50% brightness.

Alright so, wow. The battery lasted pretty much the whole day(the pics are taken after writing this). My main concern, as with anybody is, of course, battery life. We've seen a lot of people posting and complaining about their phones' battery the last few weeks so it's normal to feel a little bit concerned. As I said with MY use case, I can safely say I won't have any problems with battery life anytime soon, even though I'm running the forced 90hz. So if you're wondering if you should get the 7tp over the 7t because of the bigger battery and you generally have the same use case as I do, then you're gonna be fine with just the 7t!

Ok so now let's talk about those QoL annoyances coming from the Apple ecosystem.

The one major thing most apple users are probably going to be somewhat annoyed about is the lack of a unified program to sync and do backups. Pretty much the first thing I did when I started using the phone is to look for something that can transfer my music. The lack of an expandable storage slot(which I believe how most Android users transfer things from phone to PC and back) meant I had to find a program to do the sync for me. Anyway, I did find a program that worked for me and that's resilio sync. It's free with its major limitation being you can't sync single files and have to do it per folder? The paid ver is expensive since there's no solo license only a family license straight away. But it worked for my music folder so I'm happy.

I finally figured it out! so, once you plug in the phone, bring down the notification panel, and look for the notif saying "charging this device via usb," tap that and change it to file transfer.

And regarding migration from iOS to OnePlus, I was unable to use the OnePlus Switch app. I had trouble sideloading the beta app, I think it might have something to do with the latest version requiring the latest iOS, my 6s is jailbroken at iOS 12.1.2.

    Now for the mild annoyances

From what I understand these issues are more so because of Android 10 itself and it's implementation, specifically on the 7t. By that I mean, while the other 7 series phones (I'm not sure if this includes the 7t pro) can use the OnePlus gestures along with the Android 10 gestures, the 7t unfortunately only comes with a10 gestures with no option for the OnePlus ones.

Honestly coming from iOS and no experience with oneplus prior, I wasn't expecting this to be an issue. But here we are. First, the back gestures, these gestures are activated by swiping from either the left or right outer edge of the screen towards the middle. So yes there is no swipe to go forward only back, which is a pretty weird choice? The main thing iOS users are gonna notice is that they are not as responsive as the iOS equivalent. the case I'm using on my 7t does have a very small lip going above the screen. comparing it to the case of my 6s, which also has a lip, but is taller than the lip on the 7t, I can easily swipe with no problem. On the 7t expect to swipe a couple more times for it to register.

But the worst is how high the activator for these gestures if I'm not mistaken they take up about 3/4 of the outer edges. So if you have any apps that require a swipe from left to right to bring up the menu, expect to reach up the screen to do it. I believe this could easily be fixed if they allow us to change the height of the activator for the gesture, maybe 1/3 of the screen would be perfect.

Another a10 gesture that's somewhat annoying is the swipe down for the notif area. From what I've read, the way it used to work was regardless of where you were, you can swipe down anywhere on the screen to pull down the notif panel. Now it only works when you're on the home screen.

Which segways me perfectly to the next one, because if they had this feature, none of these are going to be a problem. And That's the lack of a "reachability" option. This is a feature in iOS where, if activated, will bring down the screen about halfway down, allowing you to easily reach whatever is at the top of your screen.

And finally, the last gripe is the awkwardness of moving the text cursor in a text box. In iOS, you can simply long-press anywhere on the keyboard and be able to freely move the text cursor anywhere. Here in android, the closest thing is to have the option "enable gesture cursor control" enabled under glide typing. it allows us to freely move the cursor left and right only, not up and down. Not sure if this is a gboard thing as I haven't tried any other keyboards since I'm honestly perfectly happy with it aside from this one small thing.

Regarding the camera, I haven't had the time to go out and take pictures yet. And also the fact that the current GCam for 7t I think doesn't work on the latest is very, 10.0.4.

As for the tinting issue I personally don't mind it, I guess mine isnt as bad as others. the main thing I see it on is in discord's dark mode.

And that's it. Overall the 7t is an amazing phone. I'm happy that this is the phone I got to experience Android for the first time. Not looking back on my 6s and one of the few items that I have 0 buyer's remorse!

TLDR: I recommend the phone 11/10. the 7t has a great battery life even on forced 90hz mode if you don't play a lot of games or watch a lot of youtube. My main problem with the phone is mostly Android related. The big thing being the lack of a universal program similar to iTunes to sync and do backups with. And small QoL issues brought on by Android 10 gestures.

Oneplus 7 pro won't boot, can't restart. Don't know what to do

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:33 AM PDT

My 4g was being its usual garbage self so I decided to restart my phone to see if that might give it the nudge it needed to stream a single song with full phone signal. Upon restarting I get the "powered by android" screen, then it goes to the animation of the 2 white balls spinning around the red ball. It has been on this screen for 2 hours now. I can't turn the phone off as it's not turned on. Holding the power button does nothing, neither does holding power+volume down. Plugging in the charger doesn't appear to open any more doors for me. What do I do? The only thing I can think of is waiting for the battery to completely drain, which shouldn't be long judging from how hot the phone is getting just trying to boot in perpetuity. Can anyone lend a hand?

Is warp charge downward compatible with dash?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:32 AM PDT

I have 5T and think of upgrading to 7T (most likely).

I'm wondering if I could use my 5T dash charger with 7T and have it charge at dash (20 W) speed.

I know that 7T is PD compatible, but I have a couple of dash ones and I was thinking not selling all of them with 5T.

EDIT: Obviously, I meant backwards, but you got the picture.

My 6T is approaching its 1 year mark (11/5/18) and I am noticing degraded battery performance. I was thinking of replacing the battery through OnePlus. Thoughts?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 12:11 PM PDT

I still love my phone, but dammit the 7T's release has me tempted to jump. However, I was fortunate enough to get my 6T for a steal through T-Mobile (My GS7 trade in value was $300). I am financing it as its 0% and the trade-in comes in as monthly credits to my bill.

I have already dropped it once early on and went through a pretty bad experience (but good price) for the screen replacement already. However, since my battery health (According to Accubattery) is at 80% and I am noticing worse performance (I read back on my reddit post and saw how it lasted 2 days and now its barely making it through).

I understand its gone through a lot of apps and a factory reset is probably called for, but so far i've done a cache wipe and I uninstalled quite a few apps that I never ended up using. I did not unplug at 80% however I am more often now haha.

I saw on the website the 6T's battery replacement cost was like $12. Thats not including labor. The screen replacement was $90 for the screen (cents for adhesive), $45 for labor, and $9 in tax totally $153. I am hoping the battery replacement cost doesn't cost over $50.

I was thinking of doing this because I do plan to hold onto this phone for a while after I finish financing it. Since last time it took about 2 weeks or more in total to get it back, I was thinking of maybe buying a $50 phone on Swappa or eBay as a temp (Nexus 5 or 5X for ex).

Thoughts? Anyone else in the same boat?

Fix for anyone using AirPods and having the low volume problem.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 12:05 PM PDT

Ok, found a fix, works fine on my OnePlus 7T Pro. Latest Oxygen OS beta release fixes the low volume on AirPods. Mine are booming now!!

Download Oxygen Updater app on Play Store.

Open it, get to the part where it asks what kind of update , choose full update.

    Download.

Go to Settings ( on your phone ) then choose System then hit System Updates, hit the cog top right of the screen and choose 'local update' you should then see the update file downloaded earlier.

Choose it , wait for install and reboot. Fixed!

What happened to the gaming mode button?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:56 AM PDT
