Looking for a good gaming laptop in the $500-$550 price range Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:58 PM PDT I am looking for a good gaming laptop, most likely going to get a refurbished or used one. Looking for something that can give 120+ fps in csgo with low graphics. Also a 140hz refresh rate. Though besides the refresh rate I really do not care to much about the specs of brightness, or how nice the thing is, though I do want at least "good" build quality. I would greatly appreciate a response of any kind. Thank you for reading this. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:33 PM PDT I'm living this cycle of buying a laptop every 3 to 5 years only to have to replace and repeat. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong? I've spent anywhere from $400 to $1,000 for each machine and I haven't noticed any better longevity out of the more expensive ones. My last purchase was a Dell Inspiron 15. It has 8GB RAM and an i5. I spent around $800 in December 2016, and it had recently become so slow I'm now in need of a new one. I mainly use it to record music (for which I use two different programs), editing videos with Windows Movie Maker, and I also stream sports games. So I need a little more capability than the average facebooker/youtuber but nothing pro level necessarily. I know there's no magical right answer here but am I doing the right thing by spending ~$800 every few years? Should I expect to get more life out of these. I'm not very tech savvy but I run my anti virus. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2019 11:52 AM PDT My old laptop motherboard died so I need a new laptop. This thinkpad is on sale for 739 instead of the usual 1,232. Is had a Ryzen 5 qaudcore. 4 gigs for ram (gonna add 4 more from my old laptop). A vega graphics and the RAM is ddr4. I want it to last 3-5 years . [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:31 AM PDT Heres a link to all my choices. I just need help choosing. I already have a desktop for gaming and intensive work. I just need a very light and powerful device for school, editing, and sometimes mild gaming. One question I do have is that does the X1 Extreme have different keycaps you can custom order? I really like the laptop but the keyboard and red mouse thing look terrible in my opinion. Thanks for the help in Advance. :) [link] [comments]

Add RAM or just buy a new laptop? Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:51 AM PDT Disclaimer: I am a newbie when it comes to laptops, so I would really appreciate any help. Laptop: 4 year old HP 250 G4 i5-5200U (related specs down below) What I want: To learn frontend development, so I need the code editor, photoshop, multiple chrome windows, other browsers for testing, cmd, tasks runners etc. Problem: the laptop runs really slowly when I want to do all of this, it takes 10-15 seconds for it to perform a single action. Question: should I add more RAM or just plain buy a new laptop? If the former, what kind of ram should i be looking for? If the latter, what should I generally be looking for in a laptop? Here are its related specs: processorProcessor Model: Intel® Core ™ i5-5200U Processor Processor Platform: Broadwell processor: Intel Core i5 Processor Frequency (GHz): 2.2 GHz Frequency turbo processor (GHz): 2.7 GHz Processor Cache Size (KB): 3 MB Manufacturing technology (nm): 14 nm Power consumption (W): 15 W HDD & RAMHDD capacity: 500GB Storage unit type: HDD HDD number: 1 HDD interface: SATA Rotation speed (rpm): 5400 RPM RAM Memory Frequency: 1600 MHz Standard memory: 4GB Manufacturer standard memory: 4 GB Memory Modules: 1 x 4 GB RAM type: DDR3 Memory Slots: 2 RAM video memory: 2GB [link] [comments]
Any vostro 15 5590 reviews ? Or vostro reviews at all ? Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:26 AM PDT Hi all, I'm in the market for a laptop right now as I'm in second year uni and figured it would increase my work flow a lot. I was thinking about getting a surface laptop 2 but then noticed the 3's were getting released soon so I waited for those and now they're out and look pretty good , especially the 13.5 inch surface laptop 3, but my budget would only allow me to get the base model which is i5-10th gen , 128gb ssd, 8gb ram, and a 2256x1504 resolution , which all sounds pretty good besides the slim 128 GB ssd, I'm willing to spend about 1600$ CAD and this surface laptop comes out to around 1400$ cad with my student discount. Then as I was searching around online I found a laptop on Dell that seemed surprisingly good, the Dell vostro 15 5590 , having an I7-10th gen, Nvidia GeForce MX250 2gbDDR5, seems like 8gb ddr4 2666 with a slot for another dimm, and a 512 GB ssd, although the resolution is lower and it does use a WVA panel which might be a tad bit worse than the surface laptop 3's as well, but this laptop comes out to around 1360$Cad as it's on sale right now which makes it cost less and seem better. So I guess I'm just wondering now if anyone has any experience with this specific vostro or any vostro in general as I'm just not sure if I'm missing something obvious to why it's so cheap such as bad materials / faulty hardware and someone can provide some insight. Another thing too is that obviously black Friday / cyber monday is around the corner too and I don't mind waiting till then if I can save a few hundred on a better deal. Thanks ! https://www.dell.com/en-ca/work/shop/laptops-ultrabooks/vostro-15-5590/spd/vostro-15-5590-laptop/cav155w10p1c5105ca this is the link for the vostro laptop btw Also, just another thing too, the laptop I would be getting would primarily be used for school work, so think Microsoft office type stuff as well as light-moderate web surfing with the casual light game (like wow classic which isn't very taxing at all), I have a desktop if I really want to play some bigger games. Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:23 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm on the hunt for a laptop and looking for a bit of advice please. I currently have a Lenovo X230i (Intel i3, 8GB DDR3, 120GB SSD drive, Windows 10) Decent machine for what i need it for but i would like to change this and maybe look at one of the following. I'm looking at 2nd hand laptops as my budget is very tight (£200 MAX which includes the sale of my current laptop). The laptop needs to be small and compact. No need at all for a DVD drive. I've been looking at the following: Dell Latitude E7240. They are small (but people day heavyish) and the i5 version goes for about £100-£150 ish. Then i've been looking at the Microsoft Surface range. I know that these cost more with them being a "Surface" but i like the look of them, the fact that they are silent and that they can be used as a tablet OR a laptop. I was looking at maybe a surface 3 due to my budget, but as i've never used one, i'd appreciate any feedback on either of the above laptops. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:47 AM PDT Hey! Spilt water all over my MacBook yesterday and it's dead. I'm currently looking to buy a new laptop. I've got up to £500 to spend. All I use it for is word, internet, and just general university stuff. I also need to be able to use graph pad put pretty sure I could run that on a potato. My main criteria is that it's lightweight (the lighter/ thinner the better) as I have to carry it to and from lectures etc. Thank you! [link] [comments]
I want to use a 2nd SSD - which do you recommend? Mi Notebook Pro GTX 1050 Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:40 AM PDT Hey, as the title says, i'm on the hunt for a 2nd SSD. I want to leave the Windows Partition as it is and install a Linux OS on the other Drive as my daily Driver for work. It would be nice if the new SSD is at least just as fast as the current one build in. So, which one do you recommend? 256GB - 512GB is enough for me. Thank you! (Side note: i read somewhere that the second slot doesn't has the same performance as the first one. Is that true? I don't have that much of a clue about all that stuff. So it might be that i have to switch slots if i want to use the Linux Partition as my daily driver? [link] [comments]

What has been the worst laptop you've owned, and what made it so bad? Posted: 29 Oct 2019 07:47 PM PDT Mine was an HP Pavilion G6. Battery life sucked ass, had the build quality of a candy wrapper, constant overheating issues, touchpad would randomly stop working. Absolutely garbage. Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:01 AM PDT I bought my XPS 15 about 2 years ago. It's been running quite slow lately and I've tried many ways to fix it to no avail, so now I'm trying to sell it. Specs: i7-7700HQ @ 2.8GHz, GeForce RTX 1050, 16GB RAM, UHD 60Hz with touch screen Condition: very good, trackpad a bit weird but otherwise hardware is pretty much like new. As mentioned before it's running a bit slow. How much can I ask for it (I'm based in the UK) and where should I try and sell? Thank you for your help! [link] [comments]
HP laptop not turning on. Please help! Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:28 PM PDT I have an HP Pavillion dv6 (circa 2011) that was working fine up a few days ago. I just came back from my vacation in the Philippines. I brought my laptop with me then and it was working when I last used it about 2 days ago. I never took it out of the place I was staying in but I think I had left it on sleep mode and it might have run out of battery since then. Tonight when I got home, I plugged it into the charger to turn it on and it just wouldn't turn on. My charger instead started making this beeping noise and the light on the charger would blink instead of stay a steady color as usual. However, when I would unplug the charger from the laptop, the light would go back to a steady blue. I don't think it's the charger because I tried using my brother's hp charger and it makes the same beeping noise when I have it plugged into my laptop. [link] [comments] |
