mom spying on my phone? Tech Support

    mom spying on my phone?

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 09:58 PM PDT

i found this folder in my filed of my samsung s10 called aweme_monitor. when i first got my phone my battery was dying super fast but its fine now.... she said some shit today that made me super suspicious that she can see what im texting to people. is this a spy app or something how can i check

Edit: wow this is the highest rated post on the subreddit? Lmao great now a bunch of people know I'm a depressed loser lmfao.

Summary of this I've been depressed for a long time it has recently gotten worse because I broke up with my gf a few months ago and my dad was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is going to die soon. Mom asked me why I didn't have anyone to go out with this weekend (I've been going on dates with a girl that just ghosted me and wont return any of my texts even tho we always laughed and had a blast with each other) and then when I said that I'm not talking to anyone anymore she said something like oh are you making girls feel guilty saying your going to kill yourself.. something to that effect which is oddly specific. (even tho I never said I was going to kill myself in response to not getting what I wanted...) which is why I thought oh she must be looking at my phone somehow and I found that folder. Which was just an empty folder so??? Will factory reset my phone tomorrow I'm too lazy rn. It's cool to have the top post but this turned into something not really tech related lmao

35 seconds boot to Windows Login Screen with Ryzen 3700x, m.2 ssd - is this normal?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:46 AM PDT

    Hi,

    my specs:

    Asus ROG Strix X570-f

    Ryzen 3700x

    16GB HyperX Predator

    M.2 corsair SSD

It takes ~35 seconds from power button to Windows Login screen .What's interesting, around 25s is me looking at a dark "pre POST" screen.

Is this normal? Am I missing an option, or maybe I've configured something wrong?

disk at 100% not matter what I try

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:28 AM PDT

Not a tech person so sorry if this is a dumb question/something that gets asked a lot.

My laptop is really slow - it takes minutes to open a new tab. In task manager the disk is showing up as 100% which I assume is why. I followed some instructions to try and fix this but none of them work. So far I have:

    • disabled both windows search and superfetch
    • disabled all my anti virus software
    • played around with the power settings
    • reset virtual memory
    • deleted all my temp files

None of this had any impact. Is there something I've forgotten? Is it possible some computers just always have high disk usage? Mine is about 3 years old, using windows 10. any help appreciated!

Installed a Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080ti, but my frames are actually down

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 08:20 PM PDT

I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong, but I upgraded from a EVGA GTX 1060 to a Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080ti and my frame rates are actually lower with the 1080.. I made sure to download the newest drivers for it, but I'm not super inclined in computers yet. Any suggestions?

    Click noise coming from pc

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 02:39 AM PDT

Whenever I power on or off my newly built pc, there's a click sound coming from the psu area. All parts but my gpu and ssd were brand new. The psu is a Corsair sf600 platinum, the motherboard is a Gigabyte x570 I (it has a small fan for m.2 slot cooling) and the case is a Louqe Ghost s1. Could anybody tell me if it's ok, or if not what to do? Do I have to RMA it?

I can't sign into the Windows 10 Store because "That Microsoft Account doesn't exist" but I can log in with the same account on Microsoft.com, outlook.com, and office365.com.

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 10:28 AM PDT

I'm trying to upgrade my version of Windows 10 from Home to Pro but every time I try to add my Microsoft account to my PC it tells me that the account doesn't exist.

Is there anything I can do on my end before I deal with Microsoft support?

Is my harddrive on the way out?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 02:14 AM PDT

I've got a clip for you to listen to for a better judgment but please turn your sound all the way up so you can hear the noises which are loud irl but super quiet on video.

    Clip: http://imgur.com/a/J4Mo69x

Files have been transferring quite slow recently and it doesn't boot up as fast anymore even with heavy start up programs disabled and my laptop freezes up quite a bit half the time

It's getting to be an old laptop so I expected this but I'm not sure if the sounds it makes are normal or what haha :)

    Thank you!

    New PC hard drive problems

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:46 AM PDT

Last week, I got a new PC. I've played on it a few times and now when I boot it, it does a disk check. I let it do this and everything was fine but it does this check each time I boot it. I can skip the check but it's still annoying. I've checked the SMART status in CMD and it says Pred fail. I'm not sure what that means though. Also, when I checked wether or not the drive was dirty, it said it was.

    Social media cache

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 04:07 AM PDT

Is it possible to determine, from internet cache, who has logged in to facebook on Google chrome on a pc..... eg I log in at 10am and friend logs in on the same pc at 12pm, can this be distinguished, is a user's profile cached or just images/videos and text? Hope the above makes sense, I'm not a tech geek

Fans suddenly running at full speed all the time

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 12:17 AM PDT

I've got a bit of a weird problem and I have no idea how to solve it.

So one day I was playing a game, pc being quiet as usual. And the next day, I start up my pc and the fans sound like they're blowing at max rpm and they keep doing that all the time. Now the only thing that changed visibly for me is that normally, only the GPU Tweak II Monitor pops up when I start up. On the day the problem started to occuring, a second screen popped up called GPU Tweak II (where you can select profiles). I did not update anything manually.

I've got a push-pull configuration with my fans. So on the bottom, I've got 3 fans connected to my GPU and on the top, I've got 3 fans connected to my CPU. (I hope this makes sense.. A friend helped me build so this is pretty much what he told me.) The CPU it self is cooled by a Kraken X72.

When I checked some diagnostics, I saw on my CPUID HWMonitor that the fans connected to my CPU are blowing at around 2100 RPM. Bit too much I think.

I tried fiddeling around in the bios, trying to see of my fans react when I change settings but nothing helps. I also tried various profiles with GPU Tweak II (premade and user defined).

Please tell me if you need any additional information. I'd be happy to provide.

    Thanks for reading!

Phillips SmartTV won't connect to server

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:57 AM PDT

Got a new TV recently, a Phillips 55PUS6754.

The thing won't let me use any of the Smart TV functions or apps, like the web browser or Youtube and Netflix apps, it always says that I'm either not connected or the Phillips server is not up.

The TV actually is connected via WiFi and it clearly shows that in the settings. I've tried a wired connection as well, power cycling, restarting the router, factory resetting the TV, you name it - basically anything that their support suggests.

So is it just me, or is anyone else with a Phillips TV having a problem?

    Thanks

Cannot upgrade from windows 8.1 to Windows 10 - out of ideas

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:54 AM PDT

Every time I try and update from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I receive the following error after the upgrade hits 100% (no reboot has taken place yet): "Windows 10 Upgrade Failed".

System is an AMD A8-5600k with integrated graphics.

    Motherboard is an MSI A78M-E45

This is a system I built myself.

Here are the things I have tried:

    • Disconnect any all USB devices besides keyboard mouse
    • Install directly from windows 10 update program
    • Write windows 10 update to USB stick and run setup.exe from there
    • Reboot to USB stick and try and run setup (kicks me out on trying to upgrade existing system, saying to do it inside running installation)
    • Updated bios to latest version
    • Cleared free space to on boot drive to 50GB
    • Disabled Windows 8.0/8.1 boot mode in bios
    • Tried to rebuild the BCD. Received "Requested System Device Cannot be Found"

I am out of ideas here. I can't find any log file that indicates why exactly the upgrade failed. Any pointers?

PC won't post after spilling liquid. Fixed it, yet the problem came back

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:43 AM PDT

So my system was a ryzen 1700, gtx 1070, corsair cx650, and corsair 16gb ram. I built this system a year or two ago and everything was working great.

A few weeks ago I accidentally spilled some liquid on it and that was one of the WORST mistakes of my life because I've been living in a nightmare ever since.

I did the best that I could to clean it up and salvage whatever I could. There wasn't too much liquid so it wasn't all bad...Or so I thought. Everything seemed to still be working until it started rebooting a few times and then ultimately didn't POST but would power on (with rgb lights on and fans spinning). Additionally, no inputs would work. No monitor signal, nor power to usb devices.

After some tests with another pc I had, I concluded that the motherboard was the issue. After purchasing a new mobo and installing it, things were looking the exact same as it was before. Additional testing made me almost confident that it was my cpu. So I bought a ryzen 2700x since I might as well upgrade in the process so at least there's something positive at the end of all this. After replacing my old cpu with the new one, IT WORKED! ...for a few minutes.

Once I figured out that it had worked I turned it off so that I could finally rest with peace of mind...nope. When I went to turn it on to use it, the same problem occured. No POST yet the pc powered on. I know that the problem is related to the cpu but could the psu be damaging the cpu? Any ideas? I'm desperate

Unexpected errors on my HDD and SSD

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:20 AM PDT

Hello everyone. I have two custom built Pc's with an issue stating the operating system wasn't found. It started on one, then when I tried to fix it externally, it pops the same on my other computer. I detached the cable going for my first storage device, but when starting up my second computer I get the exact message.

I tried looking into partitions/volumes, and checked if the power/SATA cables are connected properly, also replaced them, but nothing. It just seems as if the "error jumped" from one computer to the next.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi I'm dumb and didn't export the EFS encryption key prior to fresh Windows reinstall yesterday

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 07:48 PM PDT

    Windows 10 Pro 1903. 18362.356

I did a fresh (wipe everything) windows reinstall using the Windows 10 installation media tool. I didn't realise that some of my files on an external drive were protected by efs. I thought I was careful to backup all my stuff but I didn't realise you had to export the efs key. I thought it was tied to the account or something.

I ran recuva to find any .pfx files (I think thats the extension) and got 0. Is there a way to roll back windows to give me access? I've kept windows.old. Otherwise I'm going to try whatever this mimikatz thing is tomorrow.

    Display randomly shutting off

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:18 AM PDT

    Hello

I've had this problem for quite some time now.. I have 2 monitors one in HDMI the other in DVI, and sometimes when I'm on my computer (gaming or web browsing) the screen will turn black on both of my monitors ! I still hear the sound, but no display output.. before it happen I have a little freeze / frame drop and then I hear the noise like when you unplug a USB.

My first thought was that it was the display or the cable that were dead, but why would it happen on both screen at the same time ?

My second thought was that the antivirus could be the problem, but as far as I remember, the problem started before I had the antivirus which is why I installed it in the first place.

Moreover, after this happen and I shut down the computer, when I turn it back on, the screen is still black, even though the computer is on (fans are spinning, leds are shining..)

It happens randomly regardless of what I'm doing so I'm pretty sure this isn't the GPU putting itself in some kind of safe mode because the temperature is too high.. it's not overclocked and the maximum temp I ever had was 70ºC.

Do you have any idea where this could come from ?

Seeking advice on inline amplifiers for satellite internet service...

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:16 AM PDT

Hey everyone, forgive me if I'm posting this question to the wrong subreddit.

To start I'd like to explain a few details regarding my situation. I live in a very remote, rural area and our choice of internet service providers is very slim. We are currently using Hughes net at this time. Needless to say, we suffer from intermittent connectivity issues due to what I assume is either weak signal or other interferences.

I was reading about inline amplifiers and although I do realize the improvement would be minimal if any improvement was achieved at all but in our situation every little bit helps.

My problem is that I am having a hard time finding clear information on what type of inline amplifier would be the best for our application. I know some are only designed and compatible with cables for Direct TV, Dish Network ect. I do know that it would have to be a bi-directional, wide range amplifier but I have absolutely no knowledge of these devices or which manufacturers offer the best quality and performance.

If anyone could maybe recommend a couple of options or add any critical information on this issue I would be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance!
