Getting a new laptop soon. Best way to remove bloatware?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 11:36 AM PST

Getting a new Acer laptop, I'm expecting there'll be a whole bunch of crap on it. Should uninstalling be enough or should I straight up reinstall Windows right off the bat?

What type of size laptop do you recommend for combination between gaming and portability

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 12:37 PM PST

I'm look for something that I can watch things on but also word process and game on the go. There isn't a specific price budget but assume up to $1.2k

Any models or pointers for specific features would be great, I've built my own pc but don't know how laptop specs compare up

I'd like a fair amount of battery life and assume games like league of legends/graphically intensive mmorpgs

    3200 MAh battery

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 12:20 PM PST

I found out that the battery on the Acer Nitro 5 I ordered is about as big as my phone battery, how long can a laptop with a 1050ti and an i5 run on that much juice?

    7300hq/150ti vs 8250u/mx150

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 12:12 PM PST

*I fucked up the title. RIP. - So Ive pretty much narrowed down it down to 2 choices - Theyre both basically the same other than CPU/GPU:

    • Dell Inspiron 15 - 7300HQ, 1050TI - $809

    • Acer Aspire E15 - 8250u, MX150 - $599

Anyone have experience with either one? Honestly the MX150 will probably be enough power for me but Im skeptical of the u series CPUs cooling/long term performance + I wouldnt mind the extra GPU performance if the price is right

Or Im open to recommendations of other laptops. Im a little picky though so

    • 256gb+ SSD mandatory

    • mx150, 1050, or 1050ti(not a fan of 9xx series)

    • Good cooling

    • Comparable CPU to the 8250u, 7300hq etc. quad core mandatory

    • 1080p, 15+ inch

    • 800 USD is probably my hard cap(well, 809 lol)

    • Will be used for light gaming. Fortnite(and maybe pubg, if i go for 1050/ti) will probably be most intensive games Ill play

looking for a cheap ultraportable with good battery life and backlit keyboard

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 11:58 AM PST

Hello, what i'm basicly looking for is an acer swift 1 with a backlit keyboard, and maybe a touch better cpu.

What i'm looking for exactly is:

    • GOOD BATTERY LIFE

    • mate IPS screen

    • backlit keyboard

    • 14 -13.3 inches wide screen to fit my bag nicely.

    • at least a dual core with 2ghz or around speed

    • no touchscreen - it's a waste of money in my use case, aaaand i don't like them.

    • no transformers

I now have a dell n411z 14z with an i5 and 8gigs of ram for more productive days, but it has pretty bad battery life and no backlit keyboard.I also have an acer chromebook 15 of which the battery life i love but other aspects of it can't fit into my work routine as well as my bag.

i want to sell both, slap some money on top and buy something that costs no more than 500 (if possible, if not maaybe a little more) euros. Acer swift 1 almost ticks every box but the lack of backlit keyboard kills it for me. I could go around the cpu if the keyboard would be better or vice versa. My workload consists of browser use and a light IDE such as atom.io or notepad++and a few light programs like filezilla, maybe xampp. Nothing too taxing on the system really, if i need horsepower I have a nice PC. I just need a laptop for those days on the road.

Any ideas? btw I could go the used route ,but i'm afraid of the battery wear and tear, so new laptops would be better imo.

Looking for a kind of "Tape"

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 10:07 AM PST

Hi, I'm looking for 2 things which I don't know the name of the material, or what's used. The first one is that spongy, foamy tape that you find inside the laptop near the fans, used to create a seal between the fans and the copper pipes or cooler. The other is also some kind of "hard sponge" that you find inside the laptop used in certain spots to prevent flexing of the chassis.

    HP Pavilion mousepad/keyboard trouble

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 09:32 AM PST

I have a HP Pavilion and a while back this thing just stopped working on me - mousepad and keyboard stopped responding and wireless one's wouldn't work either. I'm having trouble locating information online about this, but it's a right pickle because I just cannot think how to get this thing to work! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I've flaired this as Hardware, but it could possibly be software related, I really don't know so I apologise for the poor flairing if it is!

Any laptop suggestions? Need one thats slim and lightweight, small, doesn't need to be super powerful

    Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:20 PM PST

I do gaming on my desktop so I don't need it to be able to do anything intensive like rendering or gaming.

Anyone know of any cool chromebooks, or windows laptops, that look like the MacBook Air? I loved my old 2011 macbook air, but I don't want to use OSX lmao.

    • USA

    • Less than 15.6 inches screen size

    • High battery life is a must. I'm so tired of charging my old laptop every 3 seconds its unplugged.

    • Windows, Linux, ChromeOS. Anyone know any that ship with Linux distros? I kinda wanna try linux because im so SICK of fucking windows 10

    • Laptop is for general internet surfing + programming

    • Under $750 I suppose.

    Laptop Keyboard custom effects?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2018 11:45 PM PST

Is there any way to give a normal, single-colored laptop keyboard movement effects? Or, is there a program out there to do it? I'm not looking to make rgb. I was just wondering if there's anything that can give a normal backlit keyboard ripples, waves, fades, ect.

15" Macbook Pro (2017) vs Dell XPS 15"...Which is better?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:03 PM PST

Spec is obviously great with XPS. But mac has a reputation as in things just work flawless out of box. Anybody has experience using the new 15" XPS and any associated issue? I am on a 2013 MacBook Air. Preparing for an upgrade this year. Thanks

A laptop with an mx 150 with a unibody backplate?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:24 PM PST

I want a laptop that has the mx 150 with just one peice to take off the back so it's much easier to replace the thermal paste and ram and hardrives. So not Lenovo or Asus
