Galaxy S6 edge takes forever to charge after replacing battery

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:23 PM PST

So I recently opened up the phone and installed both a new charger port and battery. Charger port is fine and functional now, the charging icon even shows up so I know its charging. Except, the charging itself is insanely slow. It took about 30 min to go from 71 to 73%. Its a bit inconsistent at times too. Could this be due to the replaced charging port or the battery or something else entirely? (Both are new and for this specific phone model)

Why does the lock screen on my Pixel 2 running stock 8.1 Oreo have this weird overlay on it, and is is possible to disable it?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 05:13 PM PST

It's extremely faint, but it appears to be white in color, and covers most of the lock screen except for the lower third or so, where there's a round cutout from it. With my black wallpaper, it looks sorta like an LCD backlight in the dark. It moves when you swipe up to unlock. What is this, and is it possible to disable it?

    Did I Brick My Tablet?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 05:44 PM PST

Hey all! I have a Galaxy Tab 4 that was originally made for Verizon. When I switched over to T-Mobile I could still use the tablet even though the SIM card conflicted. I installed KingoRoot APK to remove all the Verizon software and have a cleaner system; when I restarted the tablet it would have the Samsung logo flash and that startup screen stayed on for about an hour. I held down the power button and it did not respond. Finally the battery died and I plugged it in to do a hard-reboot (holding down power, home key, volume up) but the tablet will not respond at all.

When I connect my tablet into my PC my PC reads the tablet as a CD rom drive.

Not sure what I can do. The tablet is a few years old so it's not a huge loss, but I would really appreciate any help!

    Thank you all in advance!

2+ GB of storage take up

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:08 PM PST

I'm at a loss with an issue I'm having with my phone. I have a galaxy note 8 and when I go to device manager I periodically notice that there is an excessive amount of storage that can be cleared. It seems to be at least 2GB but sometimes it can be on the high side of 3GB. When I clear this out, it clears this taobao and Ali webpage ad as well as something from ebay.

I have no idea where any of this comes from. I don't have any of the Ali apps nor ebay and I don't use these thru the browser either. I thought maybe an application went rouge with ads; however, I've removed all non essential apps that had ads and still get the problem. I've also implemented a system wide ad blocker and I still encounter this. It makes me think that perhaps they aren't actually ads.

Another thing I've attempted is removing all the storage permissions of apps and only allowing the ones I for sure need storage permission access to it.

Hopefully someone here may be able to tell me what to do. I posted about this issued previous here https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote8/comments/7moeza/2_gb_of_storage_taken_up/ and no one seemed to be able to help any.

Here's the link to the gif from that post. https://imgur.com/a/tkke9 Thanks to anyone who may have some kinda input on this frustrating issue.

VPN makes wifi-only settings not work

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:07 PM PST

I'm using Blokada for ad-blocking on my non-root phone (Pixel on Android 8.1) and it seems that when I'm on the local VPN it uses, some apps that have wifi-only settings don't seem to work despite me being on wifi.

For example, Google Photos is set to backup only on wifi, and so it won't work on the VPN (turning off the VPN allows it to work). Also, Pocket Casts won't allow streaming when I set it to not allow streaming on wifi. However, for some reason, my Netflix is supposed to only allow downloads on wifi, yet it still allows for videos to download.

I tried using NetGuard (another adblocker that uses a local VPN) and it has the same problem.

Has anybody had the sams issue and/or know the reason behind this? Thanks!

I have an S8. My girlfriend just switched from an iPhone to a note8, but we still can't see read notifications/typing indications. Help?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 02:17 PM PST

Before today. she had an iPhone 6S and I had a Galaxy Note8. We normally just use facebook messenger to text because texting between the two phones was a pain in the ass. Messages took forever to send or sometimes didn't send at all. She just set her new note8 up, but we're still experiencing the same issues we were before. Any idea how we can resolve this? It's taking nearly a minute for each of my messages to send. When texting my father who also has an s8, the message sends are nearly instant and we see both read notifications and typing indications.

    Google play services draining battery

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:27 PM PST

I bought a new LG G6 in September and had it replaced for a bad headphone jack under warranty in December. Ever since I got the new device I have had horrible battery life. I've done a factory reset and tried to disable all background data sent to Google. I'm no power user, just basic texting and reading reddit. Google play services is at the top of the battery usage list.

I've gone through all my apps and restricted background data for everything besides basic necessitates like email. My phone is constantly warm. Even if it's sitting on the table doing nothing it's warm like I've been using it heavily for an hour. I have two email accounts on the phone. A personal Gmail and a professional Outlook account using their respective apps not the built in email app and I don't see any sync errors. I've disabled all the Google apps besides the ones I use like maps and Gmail. All ATT apps are disabled as well as all of the built in bloatware.

I've been using android since Samsungs G4. This phone has the absolute worst battery life of any I've ever seen. I drained 80% in 6 hours with maybe 1.5 hours of screen on time.

Any tips on how to get this battery usage in check?

is there a way to backup and restore Android phones aside from cloud backups?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 03:05 PM PST

I have a Moto G and I would like to back it up and restore it to a new Moto X4. both phones are running Nougat, neither is rooted. When I did the set up for the X, it seemed to do a transfer, but nothing made it over, and I suspect it is because it really only restores Google cloud backups, which I don't use. Is there anything for Android or Windows that can back up a phone and restore it to a different phone? I'd prefer that call history and text messages make it over, but if that is too tall of an order so be it.

Looking for a book reader similar to iBooks (from Apple)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 03:23 PM PST

So I switched over from Apple to Android recently. I loved the iBooks app that Apple delivers, it's pretty clean and it's free. I noticed (much like Podcasts) there isn't really a similar app that Android developed. Instead you have to settle for the ones that other people created. Currently I'm using the free version of the UB Reader and it's ok but I don't really like it. I don't like the look of it, the library, the lack of features (can't even stack the books the way I want to?). Anyway...so is there a better alternative? What's your favorite app to read books?

WiFi, Bluetooth and other quick settings are all white

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 06:46 PM PST

I'm on a Galaxy note 8, but I had the same problem when on the Galaxy S7.

When I bring down the notification bar quick settings that has WiFi, Bluetooth, do not disturb, sound/mute, etc, if I click on anything to quickly enable something, it is white text on a white background, so I have to go into the real settings to do it.

I am using Substratum and a Samsung theme, but both of these are supposed to make these black.

Does anyone else have these problems?

    How to COMPLETLY reset phone

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:54 PM PST

An older cellphone I got from a friend a couple days ago has been having issues that are persistent even after factory resets, even when removing the SD card. Specifically, the settings app crashes immediately rendering it unusable and applications that block out rooted phones such as Snapchat are unusable. The device was rooted before my acquisition, but after resetting it the first time I installed root checker to ensure it was not rooted. Despite this, I still have the issue of lockout.

My question is just how to completly reset the device to its initial state, not just wiping the memory. I have a PC to use if that is necessary, and any programs I would need to install can be.

The internet up until now has been of no help, so any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks ahead of time.

Pixel Buds not working with Skype

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:55 AM PST

I recently got a pair of pixel buds, and I have noticed that they do not work with Skype. At first I thought the problem lied with Skype or my phone, so I tried countless apps that claimed to route all phone audio to the Bluetooth; none of these worked. I also tried to use Skype with my pixel buds on my iPhone, and they did not work there either; the Skype audio came through the speaker.

Today I decided to try out Skype with a cheap, generic pair of bluetooth headphones, and low and behold, Skype (on Android; have not tested on iOS) recognized them (it even put a little Bluetooth icon on the bottom of the screen) and the call audio went through them.

It's extremely disappointing to discover that such a basic feature is ruined on a pair of headphones this expensive. Are there any workarounds to get Skype call audio to route to my pixel buds?

Suddenly can't make calls (xpost /r/googlepixel)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 10:50 AM PST

My phone suddenly decided I don't need to be able to make calls yesterday and I'm completely stumped on what's going on. If I try to make a call, the dialer app freezes and my system becomes borderline unresponsive. The volume keys lag and the calls will not disconnect for a solid 30 seconds. Yesterday, the calls would connect, but my mic and earpiece wouldn't work. I could make and take calls with a BT headset, but that's no longer the case.

I'm also unable to play any kind of media without a BT headset. Google Music will constantly skip songs without playing anything, and YouTube will play but no sound will come out.

I have a first gen Pixel running 8.1 and even tried reflashing the OS without doing a complete wipe. I was rooted with Magisk when this problem first appeared, but flashing the OS broke root and that still didn't fix the problem so I doubt it has anything to do with being rooted.

The only thing I could think of is I had my phone in my hand as I got out of my car yesterday during some intense rain and maybe some water got in somewhere. Calls were working just fine before that happened, but I had my phone pretty shielded against the rain before putting it in my pocket. I put it in a big bowl of rice overnight for about 20 hours which did nothing, and the issue escalating to no calls connecting at all happened after a Google tech had me put the phone in safe mode for further troubleshooting, but he wasn't able to reach me back after that.

Phone warranty expired in November. How fucked am I?

What music apps can I transfer my Spotify playlists to

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 02:30 PM PST

I use to have premium but now I don't have the funds to keep it and I'm looking for another music app that doesn't have ads and that I can transfer my playlists too. Music quality and downloading songs don't matter. I'm ok with downloading apks although I have a Sony Xperia which has Spotify preinstalled so downloading a Spotify apk won't help

    Is there a Homekit equivalent/replacement?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 06:01 PM PST

I've been an Android user since day one, but a friend of mine has just recently switched from Apple and has a plethora of smart home devices (philips hue, august smart lock, ecobee, etc.) and was able to control all of it with one app, from anywhere in the world. Does Android have something like this? The Home app lets you add devices for voice control, but seems to lack quite a lot when it comes to tactile control with your phone. Even when I find apps that do allow control of some smart home devices, they don't seem AS intuitive or convenient as homekit. Again though, I've never used homekit personally, I've only seen him use it.

If anyone has any good recommendations for making a smart home more intuitive with Android, I'd love to hear it.

    Lost Phone Question

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 08:14 AM PST

So my phone got either misplaced or stolen. I've lost hope of ever getting back. I turned off my data and I put my phone to airplane mode before I put it in my pocket so using Find My Device is impossible. The only thing I'm worried right now is if someone can access my data(pictures/accounts/etc.) if they plug it into a PC. My phone has a lock but if ever they factory reset the phone, would the files stay?

Edit: So I read that everything will be wiped out if the phone is factory reset so the only problem now is if they can access the data prior to resetting the phone.
