    Alright so i bought me a HP omen 15 gaming laptop (2nd hand ebay) a day back. It arrived and i began transferring all my stuff from my old notebook as well as setting it up. Its in great condition and every thing works.

    Now that all that is done. Im onto the stage of testing games and i have alot of questions.

    Quick PSA: This Omen is my 2nd ever laptop and my first ever GAMING laptop. Before this i owned a HP AC019NA.

    Let me list my specs as they will help.

    Hp Omen 15 DC0003NA (2018 model i think) CPU: Intel I7 8th gen Current Ram:8GB Storage: 128SSD+1TB HDD GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 1444 Monitor screen WIN 10 Onto my questions:

    1. Based on my specs. Is my gaming laptop Low end? Medium? High end?

    2. What is DirectX and do i need it for gaming?

    3. Does my omen have DIRECTX installed or should i download it?

    4. I've noticed the omens charger gets VERY hot when charging. Is it SAFE to keep it on a flat carpet?

    5. I tried 2 games so far. NFS HEAT which gave me 20Fps at low-medium settings. So unplayable since you notice the fps drops

    6. And Gears of war 5 which made my laptop VERY HOT. BUT IT WORKED 60Fps+ on low/med/high and Ultra. BUT i got these two tempreatures. 90° temp for GPU and 90° for CPU when playing on ANY Setting. Is this normal for a laptop of my specs play GOW 5?

    7. Now i listed those two games to ask SHOULD I ADD ANOTHER 8GB RAM to my already existing 8GB ram? WHAT WOULD THIS DO for my gaming laptop? Fps and performance wise. Inside and outside of gaming.

    8. Can someone link me to a good cheap 8GB RAM for my omen? ( what is ddr4/3/5 and does it matter?)

    9. SHOULD i get a COOLING PAD for my omen? If so can someone link me to a good cheap one..

    10. My 2nd hand omen is great except ONE ISSUE. The F HOTKEYS DO NOT WORK. Like F5 will refresh and the others F keys work. BUT i cant increase brightness via F1 or mute volume via F5 or increase it etc.. How Do i fix this?

    Do you guys think I should purchase this for college? it's $975 USD ($1299 CAD). Just need something for light gaming and work, I already have a fantastic desktop for heavy gaming (2070 Super + R5 3600). It's currently sold out on this site, but they're offering back orders.

    Laptop novice question about graphics card

    So, I have an ASUS ROG GL502VM-DB71. My SO and I are a little confused when looking at the specs of it - it lists the graphics card as a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6gb, which, as far as I can see, is not the mobile model of the graphics card (1060m).

    The laptop recently kicked the bucket (looks like a motherboard issue, RIP laptop), so I was trying to see if it we could at least salvage the parts. I assume that the graphics card couldn't be taken out of the laptop and popped into my SO's desktop computer - it's obviously not a full-size graphics card because how the heck could they fit that in a laptop. Can anybody clarify what's going on with the graphics card model for this, and what sets it apart from the mobile model (if anything)?

    Hi, am I being dumb or does this laptop not have any ports for a headset (audio/mic)??

    I have been looking to buy this for uni but just had a look at the pictures again and noticed that it seems to be missing the little green and pink rings for the inputs

    Want to stream on Twitch but I'm worried about my computer

    I don't have space for a whole desktop (mainly because i would have to buy a desk) but I still want to start streaming as a hobby.

    Is there an affordable laptop that could handle streaming on twitch? I wouldn't be playing any games on it but I would be using the elgato capture card on a console like the switch or ps4/5.

    Sorry I'm a cheapskate but could anyone help me out

    Help upgrading RAM on gaming laptop

    So i want to upgrade my RAM in my laptop i just got to max it out. It currently has 2 8gb ddr4 2666 in it. i want to max it out at 32 gb but dont know what i should get as there are so many options and i dont know what will be the best fit.     Macbook Air vs Surface 3 vs Dell new XPS 13

    Hello World

    I need advise in picking up my next laptop, slightly confused and I've looked at many forums, previous questions but still feel I need further some discussion here.

    To choose from (all base models)

    1. Macbook Air i3 2020 -8gb ram 256gb - £899 with airpod (after discount) so it's roughly £768 for the laptop
    2. Surface 3 - metal black - 8gb ram 256gb - £1139 (after discount)
    3. New Dell XPS 13 - 8GB - £1024 after discount /amex offer.

    My preference - Need very good display, sturdy keyboard and good trackpad. I am not into gaming but I do often open a lot of windows at the same time, we do have MacBook pro at home but I am not a big fan of mac os myself so I guess that should rule MacBook air out but just keep this in the equation for the price.

    Below are my worries with each of these and this is where I need some feedback if I am overthinking or overlooking.

    MacBook Air 2020 - all reviews suggests the keyboard/trackpad are the best in these 3 laptops but the display is not that bright.

    Surface - Lacks thunderbolt 3 port but honest I dont use external gpu or gaming so not that what am I loosing, feels nothing, I do need usb-c output for docker to hookup monitor and peripherals without connecting directly to the laptop.

    Dell XPS 13 - thunderbolt 3 port available but some bad reviews for wifi and machine failing or noise due to thermal.

    What do people think.

    How good is macbook air display compared to surface 3 and xps 3 (non 4k) ?

    Is Dell XPS 13 - wifi and heating that bad ?

    Hi,

    I've been digging online and haven't been able to find a good answer...

    I have an ASUS TUF FX-505GT laptop I bought on Black Friday last year. Since it has Optimus I can't use adaptive sync on the built in display and vsync causes bad input lag, but I have a 60hz panel so screen tearing is horrendous.

    So, I've been looking into using an external monitor since I thiiiiink my HDMI out is directly connected to the Nvidia GPU instead of routed through the iGPU. Haven't been able to confirm this.

    So what I'd like to know is if my HDMI out is indeed directly connected to my dGPU and if it will support freesync so I can pick the right monitor to pair with it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 or 13" MacBook Pro?

    As part of a scholarship, I'm receiving a free laptop. My choices are the Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 or a 13" MacBook Pro. They are nearly identical specs wise, but I've heard awful things about Dell. I like the XPS better, but I'm concerned that it won't hold up well and will have issues. However, it'll come with a 4 year warranty so I don't know if I should even worry about that. I have a windows gaming laptop already that I can do heavy work on, so this laptop would be mostly for notes, essays, some light programming, and entertainment. I plan on majoring in computer science, and would be bringing this one with me around the campus. Which one should I go with?

    Help finding the ideal laptop?

    So, I'm looking for a laptop that'll last me through my last 2 years in high school and preferably some years after that for around 1200-1500€, so I figured I'd get some help from this sub :)

    To keep it short; I'm looking for a laptop that will be able to play games like Minecraft, overwatch and say, Apex legends. I'd also like to be able to do graphic design, programming and just art in general.

    Considering I need this laptop for home and school use, I'd like it to have a decent/long battery life and preferably not that noisy. As far as size goes, anything under 17" will do I think. I'd also like it to look kind of "unnoticeable" (just a simple design if possible.)

    If I had to come up with some suggestions I would say the ASUS Zepherus G14 or MSI Prestige 15". However I don't know if these will hold up since I don't really know anything about computers/laptops.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated :)

    Just bought a Digital Storm Avon if that helps. Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to a power bank that will last a decent amount of time if I were to use it while on or off my laptop. Something that won't degrade my battery life over time if that's even a thing? This is my first laptop in a while. (Havent had one since my early teens.) So I'm completely out of the loop. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Which one to buy - Lenovo ideapad 5 / Asus vivobook S15 - both 4700u 16gb / 512 ssd and pretty much the same price

    The price difference is minimal and pretty much irrelevant in this case. Those are my two options as they have a hefty discount in my country until the end of the month.

    What i am mostly interested in:

    build quality

    screen quality, according to specs ideapad 5's IPS screen has lower color accuracy but higher brightness, vivobook claims 100% srgb accuracy but only 250 nits brightness. I never had a laptop and i am pretty clueless, which one would provide a better user experience?

    cooling / temperatures / possible throttling issues.

    i will not use it for heavy gaming, i will buy it mostly because i will be a couple months in a foreign country and i can't carry my PC with me. It will be used for movies / shows / browsing / typing.

    None of the games I'm looking at playing are too demanding (Terraria, which runs easier than you'd think, Shapez.io, UCN, etc.), but I'm also pretty broke and can't afford anything too expensive. Highest I'm willing to go up is like 50$ more. Thanks :D

    I own 2 pairs of bluetooth headphones, sonys and samsung galaxy buds, both have bad latency problems with my Acer Swift 3. Any suggestions for a fix? Tried googling and everything it said wouldnt work.
