    CPU auxiliary power connector quandary

    Posted: 30 May 2019 09:53 AM PDT

Building a PC, but it's been a while. When I was researching it looked like all indications were that nothing has really changed in PSU design.

My motherboard, a GigaByte Z390 Aorus Ultra has two CPU aux power connectors. One is the 2x2 pin that looks like a portion of the main 20/24 pin ATX connector, that I first saw in the P4 era, used through the core2 era.

The other is similar except it is 4x2 pins. I've only seen that one on the 1st generation i7 I'm upgrading right now.

What I need to know is: is the extra 2x2 connector meant to be used with a molex to motherboard cable like the ones I got with a couple motherboards around the time that the ATX standard was updated? Will I be in fine with just one 4x2 power connector to the PSU? My PSU box says intel 5th gen cpu ready. Have power requirements changed between then and the 9th gen?

    Thanks

    Quick network question

    Posted: 29 May 2019 08:16 PM PDT

Should I be able to ping my router's public IP address from inside my network? I can ping it from outside my network (connected to my phone's hotspot,) but not from inside it (when i'm connected directly to my router.) I checked and I have the "respond to ping" turned on in my firewall. Thanks for any help!
