Dear Microsoft, can you finally adress the issue with dual monitor setup with different refresh rates?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:01 AM PST

Recently I replaced one of my 60hz screens to 144hz. Little did I know that it will be only start of the struggle and issues for my setup.
There's plenty threads about this issue around the net. Basically the problem is that whenever you play some twitch/video/animation on your 60hz screen, the other one for example 144hz will start to stutter and will lock to pretty much 60hz too if you are playing some game. Whenever you minimize the twitch/video on 60hz screen the issue is gone. This happens only in Bordlerless Windowed mode.
Only 1 way to fix it at the moment is using Fullscreen mode for your games. However this is highly annoying setup since your game will minimize everytime you move to another screen to check something out etc. This is why Borderless Windowed mode is the best for dual minitor setup.
As posted on many forums nVidia said they cant do anything about it since it's Windows sided issue and they are not able to fix it. Also this issue was not existing on Windows 7 which pretty much put the Win 10 in the fault. On one of the forums someone posted the response from Microsoft support regarding this where they said that they are pretty much aware of that and that its defect which they cant do anytihng about... This was like 1 year ago.

Another fix is to buy double screen with same refresh rate but not everyone need 350$ 144hz 2nd screen just to watch twitch/youtube while playing games.

Im seriously pretty annoyed and sad at the same time because ascending to 144hz as christmas present was the best upgrade I have ever made in terms of PC n stuff but it was ruined by this issue.

PS: Sorry for my english, its my second language :)

Transferring Windows license to new PC

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:15 PM PST

    Hello all,

I just ordered parts for a new PC today, and will be replacing my hard drives and motherboard. I don't want to purchase another Windows license, as I have already purchased a Windows 7 license in the past. I used the free upgrade to Windows 10 on this PC. Is there a way for me to transfer my license over to my new PC? I already have Windows 10 ready to boot up from a USB drive. Thanks for the help!

Not 100% on what info would help people understand more. Any help would be appreciated!

    Information Z97-A/USB 3.1 BIOS Ver. 2801 Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3240 @ 3.10GHz Speed 3100 MHz Memory: 16384 MB (DDR3 2400MHz)

If you guys can help my PC actually become useful again after this Windows update, I'd be forever grateful, thanks.

Windows 10 slowness - how to downgrade?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:32 AM PST

    Hello,

My fiancee has an i3 laptop and it was very fast on windows 8.1.

I upgraded it to windows 10 6 months ago and now it's slow as hell, from startup to opening any program, searching apps, well everything. It looks like a Pentium 166 with windows 10. Obviously she wants to kill me now and wants her old 8.1 back.

Wonder if anyone went thru the same? Win10 is fast and perfect on my MacBook pro 2015.

Is there any way to downgrade to 8.1 without losing all her data?

Thank you so much for your help!

Do any Windows PC manufacturers have support/service comparable to Apple?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 10:11 AM PST

The title says it all. My company and I have used Apple computers for a long time but we're interested in switching to Windows PCs due to the availability of some software we would like to really use natively. Are there any Windows PC manufacturers that have support at all comparable to Apple?

We hare piloting Dell computers right now and the service has been a C- . We are doing 90% of the troubleshooting of our issues and their only advice is, "Have you tried reformatting?"

    Thank you for any help.

    Installing Windows on USB Drive

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 05:29 PM PST

I am trying to install a windows 10 LSB onto a usb drive. The drive shows up in the BIOS, but not in the list of of devices I can install windows on. After some research I was led to a program called Rufus, which I used, but all it does is try to install windows from the usb drive, instead of running/launchinhg windows from my usb drive. What could I be doing wrong? If there is a better reddit to post this on please advise. Thanks

Best movie editing app for Windows?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:24 AM PST

I just discovered that Windows Movie Maker isn't a thing anymore and I need an app similar to iMovie for my laptop. I'm just trying to make a simple movie from different video clips/pics that I can overlay music, some text. Really basic as I've never done this before. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best app they've used for this? - I want to download from the Windows store on my laptop rather than use a website.

How to find out motherboard info from just old HDD?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:31 AM PST

I have a friend who need to find out serial number of a motherboard from an old windows install only. He has no access to the motherboard, as it is sent in for RMA, but the company messed up and he need to proof what serial number of the board was originally.

The windows drive have not been booted up on other hardware, so I am thinking there must be some kind of log or record in windows which can provide the make, model, serial number, rev. number ect. My plan was to hook up the windows drive as an external drive and not boot from it, to not mess up anything.

Anyone have any idea how to find this information?

    Thanks!

    Windows 7 Home Prem. Re-install

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:28 AM PST

    Hi All,

I have a PC with a rather 'mangled' Win 7 installation that I'm looking to refresh with new hardware and a fresh locked down, minimal installation of Win 7 SP1, to service my parents for a couple of years.

I'm aiming to perform all updates manually, whether it be the OS or third-party software and drivers, but beyond that I would like to bring the entire system up to date before I give it internet access.

My best understanding is that for the OS base I can use the Security Monthly Quality Rollup, which would apply all updates since the SP1 release. However, there does not seem to be an equivalent for Office 2010, if someone could enlighten me on how this is managed then they would be much appreciated.

Windows reboot loop, attempting to recover installation keeps resetting laptop.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 07:56 AM PST

    Hi guys,

Windows recently crashed, and it now gets stuck in a loop when booting. The manufacturers logo will show up, then till say "attempting to recover installation, restoring your previous version of Windows" which crashes after 3 or 4 seconds, then reboots.

I've tried a recovery USB, it can't revert to a previous version, nor can it fix any start up issues. I've tried to open the cmd from the USB, and have tried chkdsk, which works, and sfc scannow, which completes the verification stage, and then says "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

Any help with what I can do to fix this would be amazing.

    Many thanks

Windows 10 PIN login gone after update

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 01:41 AM PST

So I had my HTPC on the W10 version before CU, because of a Hyper-v client problem. I've moved to VMWare and was able to use FCU finally on it, so I did.

Works great, but suddenly my PIN code login is gone? It's a MS login like my Gaming PC and that one has a PIN login. The HTPC also had a PIN login on the previous version of W10, but now the whole option is just gone from settings.

Any idea how to solve this? Found alot of posta regarding a NGC folder I had to remove, or the contents of it. Tried it via group policy, tried a SFC, but nothing helped so far.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Issue with Windows 10 and Multiple Batteries?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:31 PM PST

    Hello,

My dell latitude laptop has three batteries (primary, slice, and bay). All the batteries work fine individually, but when i am using 2 or 3 of the battties at the same time and one of the batteries gets to 0%, windows continues to use the battery at 0% instead of switching to one of the other batteries. Ultimately, the computer losses power because windows wont switch to one of the other batteries. Is there any type of registry edit or setting that can instruct windows to stop using a battery if it gets to 0%?

So far, the only solution I have found is to disable the battery that is at 0% in device manager, but that is not an optimal fix. I would rather it be an automatic battery switch over.

    Windows 7 or 8.1

    Posted: 26 Dec 2017 08:44 PM PST

I'm a student and i am using a PC with 8.1 pro and I do Java in it. I don't play games in it and I don't use internet everytime. Which one suits me? In my last post I have said to downgrade and I have seen your comments. So this is the final thing and I'm not gonna use that PC till 2020.
