Looking for a mostly Gaming laptop and a little bit on multimedia.

    Hello boys,

So basically in the next weeks I want to buy a new laptop, mostly I will use it for gaming AAA titles, the ocasional E-sports title and some movies or web surfing.

Thing is I already have two models that seem to fit my budget and needs and I'm not sure how good they are in terms of thermal throtteling as that seems to be the worst enemy of gaming laptops,I will leave the specifications of the two laptops that I'm thinking of buying here and I wanna know if you guys have had them or tried them, how good are they and also If you guys have any other reccomandations in my budget that would be around 1000 euros and around 1100 that would be greatly appreciated.

Looking into medium range 2-in-1 laptop for art.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:27 PM PDT

My budget is $500-650 and the primary focus would be for art. It doesn't necessarily have to have the touch feature, as I've never used it before, but it would be nice. I know for serious art, a Cintiq or IPad Pro is the obvious choice, but cost is a factor and I don't expect to be able to do full quality work on it. That's what I have the Intuos for.

I don't game all that much, but a not - worthless graphics card is important. I mostly play TF2, so obviously I don't need anything near top of the line. And even I know I'm not gonna get that for my budget.

I guess that all I'm really looking for. Right now I'm mainly looking at the Lenovo Flex 14 AMD. Their Yoga 730 15" is pretty nice too, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how it's that much better for the extra 100 bucks. I don't have any real brand loyalty though.

    Thanks for your help!

Any good deals out there? Between now and Black Friday?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:25 PM PDT

What's the word on the street? I have a budget of $500-$1100. The higher end is because I will consider anything that is greatly discounted. I just want a powerful laptop that runs smooth. Graphics card as well.

What is the difference between these two Razer Blade?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:00 PM PDT

I'm looking at picking up a Razer Blade and I'm a bit confused about two of the models that are showing up on Best Buy's website. As an aside, I'm shopping at Best Buy because I have a fairly large gift card that I need to use. If it weren't for that I would be purchasing from Razer directly. Anyway, Best Buy has this model as well as this model. By description and specs these appear to be the same laptop, but they do have different model numbers (EM8 vs EM2). The only noticeable difference is that the EM8 is listed as "New!" on the main search screen, indicated it might be an updated model. Still, I'm not seeing what might be updated considering it has the exact same components as the EM2. I know Razer recently released the Razer Blade Advanced, which has optical switches on the keyboard. However, as far as I'm aware, that model ins only available in black and starts around ~$2700. Does anyone know what the difference is between these two models? Why is the EM2 $200 more? Any input would be great!

    VRAM caps on laptops...

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 12:39 PM PDT

So I'm on a massive budget and found a fairly decent laptop with Ryzen 5 which of course has Vega 8 integrated. I have considered the intel option but after much research Vega 8 seems to outperform uhd 620.

Alright so my laptop comes with 8gb RAM I'm planning on upgrading to 12gb (that's max it allowed me to put in). I'd like to assign some of that to VRAM. I know many laptops have rather small caps for VRAM such as assigning no more that 512ram, I also know it all depends on the laptop and bios version.

Question is what bad idea Lenovo tend to cap it at? Any recommendations for laptop brands that allow of assigning 1gb vram +?

    Black Friday Sneak Peek Sale

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:24 AM PDT

    Hello guys!
There's currently a sale going on the Lenovo website. Two deals that caught my eye were the X1 Extreme G2 for $1500 and X1 Extreme G1 for $1300. I having a hard time to make a decision between the two. Is this a good deal, or should I wait for Thanksgiving? Another PC I'm considering is the Lenovo Legion Y740 for $1115, with 144Hz display. A little info about me - I'm a grad student mostly into CAD and simulations. I do not game much, and portability is one criterion I'm picky about. I should be getting the Student discount too (around 15%) but for some reason, I can't get my ID verified in ID.me.
Help me out on this, which one among these would be a better deal?

Asus ROG Strix Scar II weird noise (when switching power plans)

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:07 AM PDT

    Hey Guys,

I'm experiencing a weird crackling noise from the inside of my laptop (over the keyboard, in the middle). It's very loud like a HDD when I'm on High Performance Mode, if I switch to balance mode it's quieter but still noticable. And at energy saving mode its gone. That has to do with the CPU I guess? It's the i7 8750h. Is there something I could do to this? I dont want to send it in because of my work that I have to do.

    I recorded the noise: https://youtu.be/ji1dnC424Bs

    Thanks.

Whats the best cpu for a versatile laptop?

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:** 1000 euro from Italy * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Whatever i prefer it silent since i dont wanna fans to run when i paint in the studio! (or could i just download a software and low the rpm as well?) * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Its normal. Maybe something that is trasportable non everyday in office but something in average * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** I worked in the past with 13.3, i have an ipad 12.9, i had also 15.6 and 21 and 25 inch desktop pc. I need a size good for poor eyesight when video editing or doing some writing. So i think it might be good a minimum of 15.6 to 17 inches * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I will run Adobe Premiere to edit my footage from the Lumix g7 and a canon m50. Usually i edit timelapses and 4k videos, i dont need to much power since i can also edit in proxyes. I also use photoshop a bit for manipulate some images. Also i use handbrake to shrink down everithing to x265 in smaller size to backup all video files to an ext HDD. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** no games * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** not in particular * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** very important i have high and drastic problem with pwm devices, so the pc need to run an IPS or whatever panel, with 0 pwm frequency or i cannot use it. I just need the laptop to be connected to a 4k 43inch tv likely 5 hours a day, to display reference for my artwork while painting. I might need a good audio quality for music :) Thanks 1 Comment Share Edit Post Save Hide 100% Upvoted Comment ascrepuscopoli COMMENT SORT BY BEST level 1 starchaserro Affiliate Links | noteb.com 1 point · 1 day ago Hey, I would give this one a chance: Dell XPS 15 9570 - I don't know the market there but I hope you can find it in your budget. I'm recommending this because it offers a lot of power, decent build quality, and good upgrade options. You're getting an H series processor, 100% sRGB Full HD LED IPS display, PCIe SSD and room for an HDD, 2 memory slots, ~6H battery life, a decent peripheral port selection: 2 X USB 3.1, 1 X USB-C 3.1, Thunderbolt, SD card reader and a Backlit Chiclet keyboard. See if you can find the configuration with GTX 1050 - this will help a lot with video editing. For similar laptops, you can check out this search engine I have searched for 15-inch laptops that have a good display and a Thunderbolt port - for connectivity to that 4k display. You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information. Laptop Issue

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:40 AM PDT

Not sure if this is the right place for a post like this but I'm looking for some advice on my acer laptop. Had tons of problems with 100% usage, tried every tip video and different things and it just had gotten worse. Now I have fully formatted my laptop after putting my things on an external hard drive, but after the restore it's still running 100% and I cannot do anything. Does this mean the drive is bad or something else? Thanks!

How to choose right RAM to upgrade my laptop?

How to choose right RAM to upgrade my laptop?

    Hello everyone

Hi, i have an HP laptop I bought in Australia (Pavilion 15 Cs0098tx) and i want to upgrade it's ram from 4 to 12 gb (using my current 4GB ram + a new 8 GB one) because its gets stuck very often while using Autocad and similar software.

I used CPU-Z to identify some pieces of my laptop, to check what is the right rm i shold choose:

    • my motherboard model is 84BF
    • the currently installed 4GB RAM is SODIMM DDR4-2666 (1333 MHz) (Here are the deatils) . Apparently it's CL10 i think, according to this table i found on the ram manufacturer's site because of the 1333 MHz speed and the model of ram i have 4ATF51264HZ-2G6E1 . Please correct me if i' wrong.

    https://preview.redd.it/6rvt4pymf2w31.jpg?width=701&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1073fc973efee5da2312cc312dd82993be53253f

So, does the RAM i need must be EXACTLY an SODIMM 8GB DDR4-2666 (1333 MHz) or not? The part i'm more worried about is the RAM's CL speed, as that is a MAJOR factor when it comes to the price of the RAMs I've found online.

    Thanks in advance!

    Laptop Question!

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 03:10 PM PDT

I'm not much of a laptop guy, but out of necessity(car was broken into :/ tbh shouldn't have left my backpack in the trunk anyways...), need to purchase a new laptop. My question is, are there any true down sides to purchasing an old laptop and upgrading the ram/hard drive to an SSD vs. just buying a new laptop. I stumbled upon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7pfOiHap4Y It's a video of a YTer buying a macbook pro 2011 for $200, and upgrading it's ram and storage, bringing the total to $300. Apparently, the laptop has been supped up to it's nicest display option of the time, and it has a 2.3ghz i7 processor, 8gb ram, and 256gb SSD. How would this laptop compare to a current laptop around the same price?

Hypothetically, if I were to acquire a similar laptop and upgrades, would it be more worth the money than just buying like and Acer 3? I'm a poor noob pls help. LOL.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Better screen or more power? (gaming and work)

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 04:38 AM PDT

If you had to decide between a better quality screen (over 100% SRGB+full Adobe color, higher refresh 144hz and better viewing angles with over 300nits vs 67% SRGB, 60hz and around 280nits + higher response time) OR more power (1660ti vs gtx 1060 6gb) what would you decide price being equal on both machines?
