4 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 126)

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 09:28 AM PDT

Happy Blizzcon Friday (maybe we'll get some news on Diablo Mobile?). As always, Friday means I'm back with my weekly 4 recommendations based on the mobile games I have played this week :)

This week, I played a dungeon-crawling RPG purely based user-generated dungeons, an awesome high-quality fighting game with over 200 characters to play as, a fishing RPG with a rhythm-like combat system, and a tank battle royale io game.

Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below.

New to these posts? Check out the first one from 126 weeks ago here.

The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is.

    Here be the games:

MONOLISK [Game Size: 135 MB] (free)

    Genre: RPG / Dungeon-crawler / Card-collecting - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Full

    tl;dr review:

MONOLISK is a unique mix of aRPG combat, card collecting, and dungeon building, and is based 100% on player-created dungeons.

The art-style is pleasing, the soundtrack great, and the many user-created dungeons keeps the game fresh.

Progression, which includes unlocking equipment for the game's different characters (all of which are unlocked from the start) as well as elements and creatures to use when creating dungeons , is very slow. Unless you pay to speed things up, of course, through in-app purchases.

The game is an enjoyable experience, but might grow stale unless you truly enjoy the dungeon creation process or exploring the endless dungeons :)

The King of Fighters ALLSTAR [Game Size: 2.11 GB] (free)

    Genre: Fighting / Brawler / Action / Fast-paced - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Landscape

Required Attention: Full (unless using auto, which is not recommended)

    tl;dr review:

The King of Fighters ALLSTAR is a new high-quality brawler fighting game with silky-smooth fast-paced combat, 200+ characters, and a ton of both singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay content.

We take 3 fighters with us into any battle and can switch between them at any time to utilize type-advantages, which is especially important for boss battles.

The game monetizes through a light energy system and a gacha unlocking system for fighters, which means paying users can progress faster, which inevitably makes the PvP slightly unfair. Fortunately, it does take actual skill to win PvP since it's real-time, and so having the best fighter and gear isn't everything.

Still the best fighting game I've played on mobile this year!

FishIsland: Fishing Paradise [Total Game Size: 1.09 GB] (free)

Genre: Fishing / RPG / Sports - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Full

    tl;dr review:

FishIsland: Fishing Paradise is an RPG fishing game mixed with rhythm-like "combat" where we have to tap the screen at just the right time to defeat the fish we're trying to catch.

The graphics look great, and the gameplay is fun, and there's plenty of both PvE and PvP content to dive into (no pun intended).

The game does allow you to pay to progress faster, and there's also a gacha unlocking system. But none of it is necessary to enjoy the game as a free casual player.

    Google Play: Here

YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here

PvPets [Total Game Size: 238 MB] (free)

Genre: Battle Royale / .io / Shooter / Action / Top-down - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Full

    tl;dr review:

PvPets is a tank battle-royale game that plays like a mix between Battlelands Royale and an ".io"-game, which means we slowly grow stronger and more powerful the more power-ups we pickup throughout each match.

The core gameplay is fun and simple, with each tank having a normal attack and a special attack, for which we pick-up bullets scattered throughout the ever-shrinking map.

The monetization sadly means that certain tanks can only be acquired through premium currency, which makes the game very pay-to-win in the late-game.

Looking for a looters game with genuinely rare loot

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 08:56 PM PDT

Are there any games with loot that's actually rare but obtainable with only grind? It's okay if the game has micro transactions, but I would really enjoy a game that has rare loots to work for that can't be bought with a swipe of a credit card.

    Thanks!

[DEV] I just released my first game

[DEV] I just released my first game

Hello fellow Redditors! I am proud to announce my first game named "Geo Realm" which is now available on the google play store!

The unique selling point of my game is that you build your empire in the real world instead of a fictional map. So you and your friends can conquer castles in real cities set in a medieval timeline. You earn soldiers by walking around similar to the Pokemon Go mechanic and can take over castles of different players.

The game is fairly new and made all by myself. This brings you the opportunity to take part in the ongoing improvement process. I'm very depended on user feedback, so if you guys wanna give it a shot, it would mean the world to me.

Is there a way to see everything included in google play pass in app?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:18 PM PDT

I have google play pass and as far as I can tell I have played everything of interest to me. But I can only see like 30 games. Is there a place in app to see everything?

Are new games coming? Where can I find what's being added? New and notable just seems to rearreange itself each day.

Googling this just brings up the initial news about its release.

[REQUEST] What is the best Android Emulator around today?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:01 PM PDT

Was gonna reinstall Bluestacks to try out a couple games on controller but I remembered all of the times it popped up advertisements for COD Mobile that annoyed me.

If BS is the best, then I'll use it, but what are some other good Android Emulators for playing games (preferably with controller support)

    Does anyone play XCOM?

I saw the last time it was updated, which was back in 2017. I fell in love with the console game and now I wanna play on my phone. But that last update scares me. If anyone has it, how does it play?

    Best long term offline games?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 09:19 PM PDT

    Portal Knights?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:17 PM PDT

Is it a good game? I mean, will it keep me interested in it for a longer moment? Im looking for a good paid game under 6$. So far I have bought Gta SA. I have earned some money from sites like gamehag and now Im looking for a good deal.

Monster hunter stories could be ok, but I dont like turn based fights. Minecraft is ok but I guess I would open it for a while and then forget about it.

Im mainly looking for open world game. So I have heard about portal knights and it looks decent.

[REQUEST] Looking for a non p2w multiplayer game to jump in for some short sessions each day.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:41 AM PDT

I just had to uninstall CODM after facing an absurd amount of disconnections and wide presence of cheaters.

I'm looking for a good, non p2w, preferably fast paced multiplayer game to jump in for a few minutes every now and then.

    The requirements are:

    • Absolutely not p2w
    • Quick matches (less than 10 mins)
    • Free-to-play

Games I've already tried/ don't want to play: Brawl Stars, CR, Battlelands Royale, Danger Close FPS, CCGs.

Thanks in advance for all your recommendations.

[DEV] An Action Space Shooter... in 3D! (Updated It)

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:00 AM PDT

[DEV] As part of a university module, I have released my first game!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:36 AM PDT

Hello! For one of my university modules I have been required to release a game and gather feedback. The game I have released is called "Hex Disarm".

It is a simpler version of the classic minesweeper games with a little hexagon grid twist! Instead of using the classic numbers/flags that are used on the standard minesweeper games, I am just using colours to indicate how close you are to the bombs. In order to disarm the bombs, you must flip all of the tiles that surround the bomb!

My game features 200 levels and an infinite random levels mode to keep you entertained :)

I would really appreciate it if anyone could download my game and provide me with some feedback so I can write about it in my report! Thanks.

Switching over from iPhone and have a couple questions about using a DS4, gaming and emulation.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:55 AM PDT

For the most part, I won't be using my device much for gaming. But I'm buying an A50 because as much as I like iPhone, after years I've gotten frustrated with how limited the phones are in terms of customization, tired of running out of space, and don't see the value it in anymore. They're just too expensive.

Now that I've gotten that useless bit of info out, I would still like to play some games on Android that I wouldn't play using touch screen (I'm too old, can't adapt I guess). I'm wondering how easy it is to use one with an A50/Android 9. I always just assumed it was a lot easier to use a DS4 on Android for years now, but after doing some research it seems that isn't the case.

Am I right in assuming that Bluetooth is hit or miss? and if so, is using a wire a viable option? For instance If I were to use a wire to connect my DS4 to my A50, would I be able to play GTA San Andreas without much issue? (fyi, you couldn't customize GTA controls on a controller on ios) so that isn't an issue, because the mapping was already good enough. GTA isn't a very cheap title and I'd hate to buy it only for it to not have any decent controller support, not only that, but I'd hate to buy a wire and not be able to even use a DS4 controller.

Second, are there any good SNES or N64 emulators that allow you to use a DS4?

TL;DR - Can I use a DS4 wired to a Samsung A50 to play GTA San Andreas? Are there any good SNES and N64 emulators that have DS4 support?

    Thank you.

    Monsters Den likes?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 12:48 PM PDT

Anyone remember the Monsters Den series and know of a similar Android game? I've gotten one to work on the Puffin browser, but touch controls are bad and I can't figure out how to save. If anyone knows of a similar game, I would love to scratch this itch.

[Request] Looking for a game with minimal to no ads, good controls. Not luck based.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:02 AM PDT

I'm tired of playing stuff with too much luck factor in them. I already play Sudoku, Minesweeper, Flow, Picross and some others.

By good controls I mean a game that doesn't have a d-pad and the A-B buttons on screen, I hate that.

By minimal ads I mean the little rectangle at the bottom of the screen, those are ok. The fullscreen ads are a no no for me.

Kakuro and Pixel Dash are too difficult. Also, no First person shooters or Battle Royales.

    Help me Find a game!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:51 AM PDT

I remember playing a game with my younger brother a few years ago, the premise of the game was a 1v1 with soldiers or robots and a base, you would send your soldiers down a path on a symmetrical map and if your soldiers got to their base and started shooting that base, was an offline game and the colours of the teams were mainly red and blue, was a brilliant time waster during car rides and I hope to find it again :)
