    Untrusted Certificates

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:09 PM PDT

So, this is kinda complicated, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out.

So, I'm currently using a military internet connection. I don't have service where I am at, so I brought my laptop with me to use. I hardwired it in and was able to get things working by add these certs (https://public.cyber.mil/pki-pke/pkipke-document-library/?_dl_facet_pkipke_topics=wcf).

So, now I am attempting to use my laptop as a hotspot device for my phone (simply for convenience sake). However, all my phone can do right now is receive notifications when connected.

When I go the the browser I get:

    "Your connection is not private"

    Blah blah blah

    "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

I have the "DoD_PKE_CA_chain.pem" installed on my phone. I don't really know what it does, but I figured it was useful. I only get this far when I have it installed.

Either way, I click the warning in the URL bar and it says

    "Server's certificate is not trusted"

I click on it and look at the certs. There's:

    "DoD WCF Signing CA 1"

    and

    "DoD WCF Intermediate CA 1"

So! Given all this... I was wondering if there was a way to fix this or get around it somehow? I really don't know much about this particular type of stuff, so I really don't know. It was a pain figuring this out on my laptop, so at this point I really have no clue.

My phone is rooted and I'm running lineageos if that's of any use to anyone. Like, I said, I don't know much about this realm of the computer world. I don't really expect there to be a reasonable fix, but I was curious. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Can I use an old iPhone as a substitute for a Mac to forward messages to my Android.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 05:50 PM PDT

I saw many videos that show you how to use a Mac app to use iMessage on Android. I was wondering if I could use an old iPhone to run the same program, or something like it to use iMessage?

Is my screen dead after dropping water on it?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 02:29 PM PDT

Dropped water on my Huawei p30 2 days ago, screen completely black. I can hear notifications and phone vibrates, also when I press the power button with the volume down button simultaneously, the screen works for like 2/10th of a second then becomes black again. Should I replace my phone's screen or wait a week for maybe the phone is still wet and needs time to dry? Thanks!

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:17 PM PDT

    Hi!

So a few minutes ago I was scrolling through my photos in my gallery and I swiped sideways in a way that resulted in my photos being laid out like this instead of like this. I can't change it back.

Is there any way I can change this back to normal? Thanks in advance!

When will 3rd party apps move to Android's newest API?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:06 PM PDT

If no timeframe, do you guys know how to check which apps have been moved to Android 10 .29 API? I hate that apps still have that black bar in the navigation bar, especially on Pixel 3 phone. So ugly.

    Phone won't charge unless rebooted?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:03 PM PDT

My phone is the Xiaomi Mi A2 which is powered through the AndroidOne program. Just last week, I dropped my phone in some water by accident and some water got into the charging port but I made sure not to plug in the USB-C charger , I also made sure it was dry shortly after. So, like 4 days later my phone won't indicate charging unless I restart/reboot the phone while the USB-C charger is connected. If anyone can help me that'd be great because I honestly don't understand what's happening, I've searched forums and the internet so far and I got nothing.

    Thanks :)

    Shortcut to enable/disable mono audio?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:52 PM PDT

At work in only use one earbud to listen to music, podcasts, etc. I'd like to be able to easily switch mono audio on and off, without having to go into the settings everytime.

Would it be possible to put a button, link to the setting directly, or anything on my homescreen to do that? Or a button in the drop down settings menu to enable/disable?

Removing an item from Google now price drop notifications?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:07 PM PDT

Every week or so I get a notification on my phone about a price drop on the game Days Gone. I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop it. It comes from Google Now.

In Google Now I can turn off price drop notifications entirely, but how do I just remove this one game from it?

    GMaps - Block ad pins

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:06 PM PDT

Has anyone heard of a way to block the "ad pins" that are placed all over Google maps - Android app? I'm in a dense urban area and the ads are unreasonable.

I was thinking something like a magisk module, patched apk, or dns based solution but have yet to find anything.

Does anyone have any thoughts or made progress?

    Cheers

Galaxy Tab E crashes opening FB

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:47 PM PDT

Hi all. I'm trying to help a family member with a crashing problem when opening the Facebook app. The app has worked for years, now suddenly in this last week opening the app crashes and says "Facebook has stopped," then we get the option to restart the app or send feedback. The first crash was on 10/29/19 and has crashed 15 times since (from opening it). The app still displays notification badges and will open and load the first thread, then crashes as mentioned

Things I've tried: •uninstalling and reinstalling the app •checking for device updates •cleaning the cache/app data •running device maintenance •uninstalling and reinstalling the app after doing the above

    System/device Info: •Galaxy Tab E •SM-T560NU •Android version 7.1.1 •Samsung experience version 8.5

Earlier today the app inexplicably worked again for about 30 minutes but then went back to crashing in the same manner.

I was thinking of doing a factory settings restoration.

Any tips or ideas. I hope this isn't planned obsolescence.

    Thanks for any advice.

How to delete or identify "other"

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:28 PM PDT

(Android 7.0 Nougat) The storage's other tab is increasing day by day (is 1.2GB now). My device is a piece of shit, honestly (Motorola Moto C) and the "you're getting out of storage" notification is appearing more frequently now.

I always cleaned cache and that's all. But now the "Other" tab is increasing it's numbers! What is it storing? What folders (the most common) can I locate to free up space?

    Thank you!

    Android Auto - SMS

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:30 PM PDT

Recently switched to android from iPhone and loving it. Have the Note10+. One thing that has been getting annoying is the way the text messaging works within android auto, and I'm hoping one of fine redditors might be able to tell me how to resolve this. I've tried searching but must not be using good keywords in my search.

After receiving a text message from someone, the message gets read. When the second message from someone comes in, it will read the first message followed by the most recent message, and will repeat this behavior as more messages come in. Can open the text app and clear the message so only new messages are read, but that's awfully annoying. Is there a way to get android auto to mark a message as read so it won't get read again without having to clear conversation from within the android auto app?

    Thanks in advance.....

Pixel 3 - Google Keep Update - Dark mode disappeared

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:23 PM PDT

    Hi all!

I have a pixel 3 (not sure if that is relevant) and recently did an update of Google keep which was last updated on Oct 14. I used to be able to go into settings and enable the dark mode, but since the update this option is since gone. I'm not if this is the correct place for this but anyone see this?

I tried to uninstall and reinstall to no success. Thanks!

Allow the Application (netflix, youtube...) to play audio through a lock screen.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 02:04 PM PDT

    Hello!

I was trying to ask this question a week ago, but I received no comments so I hoped I can try again with providing more details. Because this issue is driving me crazy.

When I started Netflix video I closed my magnetic cover (which locked a screen), but I was able to resume audio through connected bluetooth headphones. So I was able to travel, walk, run & stuff while listening to podcasts and documents.

Unfortunatelly this is for some unknown reason not possible any longer. Application doesn't react when I try to resume it through a lock screen.

As a side note, it still works perfectly fine with Google Play (pausing/resuming through while the phone is locked).

    • I have a latest release of Netflix application (I have tried to reinstall).
    • My Android has been recently updated to v9 (which is a probable cause).
    • My Phone is a Samsung Galaxy j5.

I have googled to hell and back & tried everything, but no luck so far. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Removed Youtube, only Netflix has this issue.

    Galaxy S7 battery issue

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:32 PM PDT

I've had my Galaxy S7 for about 2 and a half years now. In the last 6 months, the battery has been running out a lot quicker to the point of infuriating and would even just die once it got below 25%.

3 days ago, I had a new one put in it at a phone repair shop expecting that to solve it. It's marginally better and it doesn't give up below 25% but I swear it's still running out faster than it should be. I don't remember it dropping this fast when I first got the phone. I'm convinced it's something with the phone itself that's causing it to run out so fast. Is this something I can inquire about in a phone repair shop to possibly get fixed or am I better off just getting a new phone?

Son possibly bricked phone trying to root it, what can I do?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:36 PM PDT

My son thought it would be a good idea to root his phone. Ive told him not to so of course that meant do it anyways. Something most have gone wrong because when you turn it on it acts like it's updating endlessly. I tried doing the factory reset thing and it says it can't find some file or something.

What can I do restore the phone?

Every since I upgraded to Q I have issues casting.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 05:23 AM PDT

I watch a lot of Motor Trend on demand which I have to cast from my phone to the TV. I have never had issues doing this from my Pixel 2 XL until I upgraded to Android Q.

I can set up and connect a video right away, but after a few mins the quality goes to crap and the video will buffer frequently.

I have this issue on both my Shield TV which is a wired network connection and my Vizio TV which has a wireless connection. I have ran a speed test on my phone when this happens and get a consistent 80+ Mbps.

Anyone else having this issue or know anything I can check or try?

Nova Launcher with Pixel 2xl and Android 10?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:40 AM PDT

I've been having issues with nova launcher. Since updating to Android 10, nova launcher hasn't been working right. I've given it some time to see if an update would fix it, but so far it hasn't. Curious if I'm doing something wrong, or if others are experiencing the same thing?

With nova launcher set as my default launcher everything seems to work, except if I hit the task switcher button. When I hit the task switcher button it goes to the task switcher screen, but switches back to the pixel launcher. If I hit the "home" button, it switches back to nova launcher. Is this a known bug, or am I missing a setting?

I've noticed also, it isn't consistent. For a period of time (like all afternoon yesterday), it worked perfectly fine. Shut down my phone over night to charge, and this morning the issue is back. Any thoughts?

    Android forums

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:18 PM PDT

Android central has become a troll haven. Apparently the mods don't like it when you point out that they are not doing a very good job and they ban you for it.

What are some other good forums outside of Reddit. Ones that aren't over run by trolls.

Blocking scam calls from smart watch

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 03:54 PM PDT

I've just started getting flooded with scam calls. I spent yesterday playing with built-in features and trying stuff, and eventually settled on using the Call Blocker app by Vlad Lee to block incoming calls from numbers not on my contacts list.

This almost works perfectly, except that when a call comes in, sometimes my phone sends the incoming call notification to my smart watch before the app is able to auto-block it, resulting in the watch vibrating for a fraction of a second. By the time I've reacted and look, it's stopped and there is no notification any more, but of course the damage has been done.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas to get around this. Googling support is not very helpful, as I just wind up with a bunch of discussions about call blocking in general, and not this specific problem. Is there some way to delay the watch notification to give the app the chance to block it? Some other app I could use that intercepts it better? Some way to selectively block call notifications to the watch by phone number?

    I am using a Galaxy S7 and and a Gear S2.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
